This document discusses guiding children's emotional development in 3 key ways:
1) Focus intentionally on children's emotional needs, build strong bonds through quality time, and connect emotionally by understanding what children are feeling.
2) Model healthy emotional relating and teach children how to handle negative emotions like defeat, conflict, and anger in constructive ways.
3) Various basic emotions emerge in the first years of life, and self-conscious emotions develop between 18-24 months as children's emotional expression and understanding grows.
As a Parent
- Frustrated from kids not listening?
- Tired from yelling at the people you love the most?
- Exhausted from feeling everything being a battle?
Being a parent is one of the most challenging roles we will ever have in our lives and unfortunately our contemporary society gives absolutely no training on how to be a good parent. We all love our kids but from my experience the ABC’s of parenting which are the love, common sense and natural instinct were not enough for me to help me raise my kids in a way that was serving them.
Learning the EFG’s of Parenting helped me transform my life and the lives of parents who learn them.
How to Deal with Stress in Children - Children can also experience stress and when it does not treated properly. It can cause disease physically, emotionally and mentally. So, how do you as a parent know the symptoms of stress in children? What caused it? What can be done to help the child out of stress?
Kids are much smarter than most people realize. They have a deep understanding of their feelings and an awareness and sensitivity to the world around them.
While young children may not understand big words like interconnectedness and consciousness, they do understand the meaning behind these terms when explained to them properly.
Better than even some adults who have deeply ingrained habits of constantly being lost in thought, children are often able to pick up mindfulness and meditation much easier and faster.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. Guide your children into an
emotionally healthy future:
• Be purposeful in guiding your child's emotional life. Focus
intentionally on his emotional needs. These needs are just as important
as his/her cognitive, physical and spiritual needs.
• Build a strong bond by spending quality time with your child.
Experts agree that parents who interact regularly with their children —
beginning in infancy — develop stronger bonds.
• Stay emotionally in tune. Connect with your child on an emotional
level. Attempt to understand what he/she is feeling. When he/she is
happy, be happy for him/her; when he/she is sad, cry with her.
3. Guide your children into an
emotionally healthy future:
• Model healthy emotional relating. Your children will mimic the way
you handle emotions and the way you relate to others. By managing
your own emotions in a positive way, your children will learn to do so as
well.
• Teach children how to handle negative emotions. Doing this well
does not come naturally. Children need to be taught how to handle
defeat, deal with conflict or be angry in a healthy way. Children who are
taught these skills early are better able to handle negative feelings as
adults.
4. Development of Emotions
Various emotions emerge in the following order:
• infants experience only simple emotional states
such as distress, contentment and interest. At birth
• Evidence of happiness appears as seen in a baby's
"social smile."Two to four months
• Basic emotions emerge, including fear, excitement,
anger, disgust, surprise, joy and sadness.Four to six months
• Basic emotions continue to develop and are
expressed in broader ways by the child.Six to 18 months
• Self-conscious emotions develop, such as guilt,
embarrassment and pride.
Eighteen to 24
months
*Come from many sources
5. Relationship has managed to
move everything, parents
who are strongly bonded to
their children share certain
characteristics.
6. Acknowledging Feelings
Follow these steps to get more in tune with
your child:
Label the feeling: For younger children, the simpler label you offer the better. Use
words like mad, happy, sad and scared. For older children, more specific words help
them to pinpoint the exact emotion: disappointed, worried and embarrassed.
State the reason for the feeling. Make your best guess as to why
your child feels as he/she does. For example, say, "It looks like
you're mad because Mom said you can't have dessert today."
Don't judge your child. Your child needs to know that it is okay to
express emotion. However, at times you may need to teach
your child how to express his feelings in ways that are
healthy and not hurtful to others.
