This learning module uses a wiki, Delicious social bookmarking, and student blogs to teach and reinforce active reading skills. Students will practice making marginal notes on texts posted to the wiki. They will then use Delicious to organize their internet research on the topics and create a tag cloud to help other students find resources. Finally, students will summarize on their blogs what they learned from the original text and their additional research. The goals are for students to demonstrate active reading, conduct research, and reflect on their learning through blogging. The teacher will set up the wiki and demonstrate the web tools, and then assess students on their note taking, research, summarizing abilities, and technology skills.
