Flexible Authentication Strategies with SASL/OAUTHBEARER (Michael Kaminski, T...confluent
In order to maximize Kafka accessibility within an organization, Kafka operators must choose an authentication option that balances security with ease of use. Kafka has been historically limited to a small number of authentication options that are difficult to integrate with a Single Signon (SSO) strategy, such as mutual TLS, basic auth, and Kerberos. The arrival of SASL/OAUTHBEARER in Kafka 2.0.0 affords system operators a flexible framework for integrating Kafka with their existing authentication infrastructure. Ron Dagostino (State Street Corporation) and Mike Kaminski (The New York Times) team up to discuss SASL/OAUTHBEARER and it’s real-world applications. Ron, who contributed the feature to core Kafka, explains the origins and intricacies of its development along with additional, related security changes, including client re-authentication (merged and scheduled for release in v2.2.0) and the plans for support of SASL/OAUTHBEARER in librdkafka-based clients. Mike Kaminski, a developer on The Publishing Pipeline team at The New York Times, talks about how his team leverages SASL/OAUTHBEARER to break down silos between teams by making it easy for product owners to get connected to the Publishing Pipeline’s Kafka cluster.
Hands-on SaaS: Constructing a Multi-Tenant Solution on AWS (ARC327-R1) - AWS ...Amazon Web Services
SaaS presents developers with a unique blend of architectural challenges. Supporting a multi-tenant model often means re-thinking your approach to almost every layer of your architecture. Onboarding, security, data partitioning, tenant isolation, identity—these are areas that must be factored into how you design, build, and deploy your SaaS solution. Of course, the best way to wrap your mind around these SaaS architectural principles is to dig into a working example. In this workshop, we’ll expose you to the core concepts of SaaS architecture then dive into a reference SaaS architecture where you can see the moving parts of a SaaS solution in action. The goal here is to provide a series of activities that allow you to interact with a functional solution, introducing code and configuration that realizes and extends the capabilities of this SaaS environment. Through this combination of a brief lecture and hands-on exercises, you’ll get a healthy dose of SaaS best practices all through the lens of a working reference solution.

The existing channel and power assignment functions in ARM support channel scanning, channel assignment and power adjustments, locally. Decisions are made locally at the AP without looking at the entire network. Thanks to the dynamic machine learning techniques, AirMatch centralises this function in the Mobility Master while dynamically learning the network and adapting the RF planning for the entire network. Today, most mobile connectivity issues are quickly attributed to “bad Wi-Fi”. Very often it may not be a wireless or RF related issue at all. With Aruba Clarity, IT organisations now have visibility into non-RF metrics not only giving them end-to-end visibility into a wireless user experience, but also the ability to foresee connectivity issues before users are even impacted. GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Guest MAC Caching overview
• This is an alternative MAC Cacheing service available in the Clearpass device
• Although the MAC Caching service created by the service templates works fine, some find it difficult to
comprehend and do not want to depend on Insight as authorization source
• The MAC Caching service discussed in this Technical climb webinar does not use Insight as authorization source.
Instead, it makes use of an Endpoint attribute containing the MAC expiry date. This attribute is checked against
the authentication date. If the authentication date is before the Expiry date then access is granted, otherwise
denied (or redirected to a captive portal).
6. 6
Guest MAC Caching overview
Lets assume two types of users for which MAC Caching is enabled:
• Guests: Users defined in, and authenticated against the Guest User Database and have the role [Guest].
The MAC Expiry will be set to the Guest Account Expiry
• Employees: defined in, and authenticated against an external database, like Active Directory and have
the role [Employee]. The MAC expiry will be set to a fixed interval, for example 6 Months.
• The overview which we will be looking at for the reminder of the webinar, we’ll deconstruct the workflow in
the reverse order and we’ll discuss the step-by-step configuration order at the end of the webinar for the
ease of understanding.
8. 8
MAC Authentication Policy
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
This service makes use of an Endpoint attribute holding the MAC Cache expiry date.
Because this solution uses Endpoint attributes, care should be taken when using this solution with other systems
updating Endpoint attributes. An API call to update an Endpoint attribute may not take into account existing Endpoint
attributes. For example, MDM systems updating Endpoint objects.
MAC Authentication Policy
The Policy will only allow authentications which have the role [MAC Caching]
If MAC Caching is applied, different enforcement profiles are used depending on the role. In the example shown in
next slide, an employee will have the aruba user-role ‘MAC-Staff’ applied and guest will have the aruba-user-role
‘MAC-Guest’ applied. This can be entirely customized according to the customer’s policy, equipment and
requirements.
9. 9
MAC Authentication Policy
The default profile is [Deny Access [Profile] in the above example. Alternatively, the default profile can be set to an
Enforcement profile which enforces a captive portal. For Aruba controllers this can be achieved by returning an
aruba-user-role=‘guest-logon’ for example.
10. 10
Role Mapping Policy
The role mapping policy uses a couple of new attributes to determine if the role [MAC Caching] is assigned.
11. 11
Endpoint Attribute
%{Endpoint:MAC-Auth Expiry} is a new attribute defined in the Endpoint.
Go to Administration > Directories > Attributes and add an Endpoint attribute such as below:
This attribute is updated by a Post Authentication Enforcement Policy in the Policy of the Web Login Service
13. 13
Post Authentication Enforcement Profiles
Note that ‘ExpireTime’ needs to be added to the [Guest User Repository]. We’ll discuss this further in upcoming slides –
For Employees, authenticating against another auth source, the account expiry is not available. Therefore the MAC
Expiry will be set to a fixed interval determined by the customer’s security policy. In this example, the customer has
decided that MAC addresses for employees are allowed to be cached for 6 months after the Web Login.
In the example below, MAC expiry is set to a fixed interval after the Web Login authentication time.
18. 18
Additional Filter configuration examples
You can define other intervals as you wish by changing the interval in the SQL Query. For Example if you want to set
the MAC auth expiry to 7 days, the SQL query will be like:
Select localtimestamp(0) + interval ‘7 days’ as sevendays;
Next map the ‘sevendays’ to the alias “Seven Days From Now” for example.
As discussed earlier, the Guest User Account Expiry time needs to be made available from the [Guest User
Repository]:
Add the highlighted string (expire_time::timestamp) to the existing Authentication query and map this to Alias
ExpireTime.
20. 20
Putting it all together
• Add the Endpoint attribute MAC-Auth Expiry
• Add the ExpireTime attribute to the authentication source [Guest User Repository]
• Add the attributes today and a fixed interval attribute to the Authentication source [Time Source]
• In the existing Web Login Service, add the post authentication enforcement to update the Endpoint attribute MAC-
Auth Expiry
• In the existing Web Login Service, add [Time Source] as an authorization source. You can remove [Insight] as
authorization source
• Create the MAC Authentication Policy
