Elephants live in herds led by the oldest female, called the matriarch. They communicate using rumbles and trumpets and can live up to 80 years. Elephants are large plant-eating mammals with four teeth, two tusks, big ears, and poor eyesight. They spend 16 hours eating up to 495 pounds of food per day.
