The African elephant is the largest land mammal, weighing up to 5.4 tons. It has large ears, small eyes, and two tusks, and uses its trunk to drink water which it then sprays into its mouth. African elephants live in forests, savannahs, deserts and river valleys south of the Sahara desert in Africa, and eat around 200kg of leaves, grass and other plants daily, drinking around 190 liters of water per day.
