Hippopotamus, also known by its scientific name Hippopotamus amphibious, is a large, semi-aquatic mammal found in sub-Saharan Africa. They live in lakes, rivers, and swampy areas, and have a round body, short legs, and a large head. Male hippos are usually larger than females. Hippos give birth to one or two young that weigh 60-110 pounds. They are aggressive, well-armed, and dangerous animals, despite their appearance similar to short cows. Hippos can weigh up to 3.5 tons and are the third largest land animal.
