Mushroom-Like EBG to Improve Patch Antenna Performance for C-Band Satellite A...IJECEIAES
In order to suppress the surface waves excitation that are caused by thick substrate in a patch antenna, a mushroom-like EBG (Electromagnetic Band Gap) structure is used. Such structures enhance its characteristics of gain, directivity, bandwidth and efficiency. Firstly, we determined frequency band gap characteristics of mushroom like EBG unit cell value by using CST software with 3mm (0.06λ ) for covering 6 GHz. The periodic arrangement of such mushroom-like EBG structures was not limited by any interconnecting microstrip lines. Four columns of EBGs shifted inwards to antenna edges by 0.3mm (0.06λ o ) or a gap of its design around the patch from the left and right sides. Different configurations were also examined in order to get the better improvement in antenna performance. The final design of this mushroom-like shifted periodic structure shows an effective increase in the directivity by 77%, gain by 108%, bandwidth by 29% and the efficiency by 20% for the antenna. This structure has diversified application possibility for wireless and satellite communications. o

An important issue in wireless communication systems, which is related to the antenna gain degradation in case of changing the main direction of the antenna radiation pattern, this variation is not approval in many communications systems. In order to improve antenna radiation performances, Electromagnetic band gap (EBG) - antenna with radiation pattern control capability is presented. Mushroom-like EBG structure for suppressing surface waves has been combined, with the switching diode to produce the radiation pattern control with improving antenna characteristics of gain, directivity and efficiency. EBG of several cells are surrounded the patch antenna and placed symmetrically for the two opposite sides, generating different radiation patterns control ability in both the elevation (E) (-20° < φ < 20°) and azimuth (Z) planes (−18° < θ < 18°). At the ground plane of antenna the diodes have been switched ON and OFF states, the EBG sector properties in stop band (connecting vias) and pass band (disconnecting vias) are altered. Using CST Microwave Studio (CST MWS) the results show the flexibility in radiation pattern control for the Z and E planes using only four diodes. Antenna directivity of 10 dBi, gain 9.86 dB and efficiency 96.5% at the operating frequency of 6 GHz, more results for all direction has been stated in Table1. Significantly, unlike a conventional beam steering, this method does not suffering from gain degradation and the main lobe gain is approximately constant for all steerig angles.

Controlling the Radiation Pattern of Patch Antenna Using Switchable EBGTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The advantages of the beam steering technique are the reduction of interference, save power and to maximize connectivity for point to multi points. Antenna gain degradation is a big problem in the beam steering technique. A new antenna structure is formed by combining the concept of mushroom-like EBG structure with the switching diode to produce the radation pattern control. All sides of the patch antenna are surrounded by several cells for EBG structure. In both of the the left and right sides, through a switching pin diode, the ground plane is attached to vias. The band-stop and band-pass properties of the EBG sector can be changed with the help of switching the diode between ON and OFF state, thus yielding the beam steering into that particular sector. At 6 GHz operational frequency, this structure has the ability to steer 40º (from -20º to +20º) while minimal diodes are utilized, directivity of 10 dBi, gain 9.86 dB and the efficiency is 96.5%. This approach is robust to gain degradation and the main lobe gain is approximately constant for all steering angles.

Miniaturized Microstrip Patch Antenna Array at 3.8 GHz for WiMax Applicationiosrjce
The aim of this work is to miniaturize microstrip patch antenna array resonating at 3.8 GHz
suitable for WiMax application using defected ground structure (DGS).The DGS has been employed to shift the
resonance frequency of an initial microstrip antenna array from 5.2 GHz to 3.8 GHz by disturbing the
antenna’s current distribution. The proposed DGS is integrated in the ground plane under the patch antenna
array for size reduction. Finally, the miniaturization up to 45% with respect to the conventional microstrip
antenna is successfully accomplished. A prototype of the antenna was fabricated with the RT-Duriod substrate.
This technique has been validated experimentally and measured results were found to be in good agreement
with simulated results.

Antenna is the most important part of wireless communication. The recent growth in this industry makes the antenna more advanced and reliable. In various fields we need the use of highly characteristics antennas and these characteristics are based upon some parameters like bandwidth, gain, directivity etc. As compared to other antennas microstrip antenna can make possible to achieve the required characteristics for efficient communication because they are easily to fabricate and reduces the cost also. To make the microstrip antenna more advanced it use defected ground structure (DGS). The DGS structures are introduce to improve the performance of planar array antenna in terms of return loss, gain, directivity and voltage standing wave ratio. The goal of this paper is to understand the mathematical terms of antenna and feeding techniques so that it possible to know how to make the Microstrip antenna with DGS as more highly characterized antenna.
Microstrip patch antenna with metamaterial using superstrate technique for wi...journalBEEI
This work builds a metamaterial (MTM) superstrate loaded on a patch of microstrip antenna for wireless communications. The MTM superstrate is made up of four G-shaped resonators on FR-4 substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.4 and has a total area of (8×16) mm2, and is higher than the patch. The MTM superstrate increases antenna gain while also raising the input reflection coefficient. When it is 9 mm above the patch, the gain increased from 3.28 dB to 6.02 dB, and when it is 7 mm above the patch, the input reflection coefficient was enhanced from -31.217 dB to -45.8 dB. When the MTM superstrate loaded antenna was compared to the traditional unloaded antenna, it was discovered that metamaterials have a lot of potential for improving antenna performance.
Reduction of Mutual Coupling between Closely Spaced Microstrip Antennas Array...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Reducing mutual coupling is a key research area in design of compact microstrip antennas
arrays. To minimize the overall size of the antennas arrays, the distance between them must be very
small, as a result a strong mutual coupling is appears. Periodic structures can help to design a low profile
of antennas arrays and enable to improve their performances by the suppression of surface waves
propagation in a given frequency range. This paper proposes a novel configuration of mushroom-like
electromagnetic band-gap (2D-EBG) structure created by microstrip technology placed between two
antennas arrays to reduce the mutual coupling more than -33.24dB. When 13×2 EBG structures are used,
the mutual coupling reduces to -59.36dB at the operation frequency 5.8GHz of the antennas arrays. A
26.12dB mutual coupling reduction is achieved, which proves that the surface wave is suppressed. The
proposed configuration is designed, optimized, and miniaturized by using electromagnetic software CST
Microwave Studio. The measured results show that there is a good agreement with the computed results.

Abstract
In this paper, a mutual coupling study is conducted between two-element array
antenna on dual substrate. A single patch antenna is firstly designed on dual substrate layer to
testify appropriate performance at 2.45 GHz. Subsequently, an array of two element patches on
dual substrate are constructed with one of them is incorporated with three EBG unit cell on the
bottom substrate. The radiating patch is on the top substrate, while the EBG unit cell is on the
bottom substrate. With EBGs in separate layers from the antenna array, the antenna elements
are closely separated by a distance of 22 mm with a significant reduced mutual coupling of -
26.61 dB. This corresponds to a distance reduction of 34.68%. The proposed structure
implemented only three EBG unit cells. Apart from that, the study of overlapped case of EBG

Abstract Antibiotic toxicity and multi drug resistant pathogens are the two greatest challenges being faced by today's medical world. In the present study, the antimicrobial activity of spices has been investigated as an alternative to antibiotics in order to tackle these dangers. In search of bioactive compound, methanol and acetone extract of 5 Indian spices were screened for antibacterial property. The choice of spice as an alternative is based on two basic reasons: firstly, plants have been the model source of medicine since ancient times and secondly, the increasing acceptance of herbal medicines by general population methanolic and acetone extracts were used to determine antifungal properties of the spices. The antifungal activity of five common Indian spices namely clove, ajwain, turmeric, dalchini and black pepper against two bacteria Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma sp. The results revealed that the methanol extracts of spices (MIC values of 20- 100 μl/ml) have high antimicrobial activities on all test organisms (range of inhibition, 6- 16 mm) as compare to acetone extracts of spices in same concentration. A new hybrid method for mutual coupling minimization of an antenna array IJECEIAES
In this paper, a simultaneous application of geometric modification on patch elements and electromagnetic band gap (EBG) electromagnetic bandgap structures (hybrid method) has been suggested for 3.5 GHz wireless communication applications, to minimize the mutual coupling between radiating elements of microstrip array antennas. The suggested EBG slotted structure is composed of a one square ring and three squares placed on Rogers RO3010 having 10.2 and h=1.27 mm which presents respectively its dielectric constant and thickness. In this approach, the patch elements are geometrically modified, while also employing EBG structures, formed by four EBG cells, placed between the array elements at a near distance. The modification of the geometry of the antenna and the introduction of EBG reduces the mutual coupling of an array antenna with approximately 33 dB on the one hand and improves the antenna gain by approximately 0.43 dB on the other hand. Initially, slots are introduced in the patch geometry and then four EBG unit cells are inserted between two patches, operating at 3.5 GHz. The antenna array design parameters were optimized.
A novel multi-resonant and wideband fractal antenna for telecommunication ap...IJECEIAES
This letter presents the design, simulation, and measurement of a novel multiband fractal circular antenna for wireless applications. In the antenna design, we used a circular antenna where we took a ring. Then, in the first iteration, we added a new ring divided into two of the same size. For the second iteration, we added a ring of the same size after dividing it into two halves. In the third iteration, we added the third ring of the same size after dividing it into four. Due to the resonator defection, we were able to reduce the size of the starting antenna from 60×70×2 mm3 to 50×50×1.6 mm3 , to get the frequency of 2.48 GHz, and we generated new bandwidths with a high gain that reaches 5.02 dB. The proposed antenna radiation characteristics, such as the impedance matching, the gain, the radiation pattern, and the surface current distribution are presented and discussed. We find that the simulated and measured results are in acceptable agreement and affirm the good performance of the proposed antenna. The results obtained affirm that the proposed fractal antenna is a better candidate for integration into wireless communication circuits.

A new miniaturized wideband self-isolated two-port MIMO antenna for 5G millim...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Nowadays, millimeter-wave frequencies present a catchy solution to securing the colossal data rate needed for 5G communications. Accordingly, this research deals with the conception of a novel orthogonal 2×2 multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) antenna design operating in the millimeter wave spectrum with quite small dimensions of 11×6×0.8 mm3. The single antenna element consists of a trapezoidal microstrip patch antenna built on the Rogers RT5880 laminate with a permittivity of 2.2 and tangent loss of 0.0009. A trapezoidal-slot ground plane is used to support the structure. The antenna resonates at 28 GHz with a large bandwidth of 4 GHz from 26 to 30 GHz, a good gain of up to 5 dB, and a high radiation efficiency of 99%. A strong isolation is achieved that surpasses 26 dB. Besides, a high diversity performance is achieved where the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is lower than 0.001, the diversity gain (DG) is greater than 10 dB, and the channel capacity loss (CCL) is no longer than 0.4 bit/s/Hz. The achieved outcomes prove the robustness of the suggested MIMO antenna and qualify it to be a strong candidate for 5G wireless devices.
MICROSTRIP COUPLED LINE FILTER DESIGN FOR ULTRA WIDEBAND APPLICATIONSjmicro
A compact microstrip parallel coupled line filter for ultra wide band applications by means of combining a network of coupled line and defected ground is proposed. The design equations for three and five interconnected networks are derived and implemented. Simulations for three different configurations for filters are optimized. Then three prototype circuits are constructed, a bandpass filter with center frequency 2.25 GHz and two different bandpass filters (in terms of perturbations) with center frequencies 2.33GHz.
For 2.25 GHz circuit wide fractional bandwidth of about 90% is obtained but undesired high return loss existed. For 2.33GHz circuit with grooves in sides fractional bandwidth of about 60% is obtained at about 3.4 GHz center frequency. However undesired return loss existed for this circuit whereas good out off or 2.33GHz circuit with grooves in whole sections the center frequency got shifted to about 3.4 GHz and about 50% fractional bandwidth is obtained with very good out off band performance observed.
Comparative Isolation Techniques of 1x2 MIMO Antenna for 5Gjournal ijrtem
ABSTRACT : In this paper a simple mender line EBG with slotted ground planer 1x2 rectangle patch multi-band antenna is designed and simulated. Presently the communication system provides the ultra wideband internet services. This is possible due to higher data rates and improved spectral efficiency of the communication system. The higher data rates and improved spectral efficiency are achieved by the use of MIMO antenna. MIMO antenna provide a significant increase in data rate and range of link without more bandwidth and power. The main design challenge in MIMO antenna is to attain high isolation between the antenna elements. This paper reviews various decoupling techniques to improve the mutual coupling between the antenna elements.
5G Fixed Beam Switching on Microstrip Patch Antenna IJECEIAES
5G technology is using millimeter-wave band to improve the wireless communication system. However, narrow transmitter and receiver beams have caused the beam coverage area to be limited. Due to propagation limitations of mm wave band, beam forming technology with multi-beam based communication system, has been focused to overcome the problem. In this letter, a fixed beam switching method is introduced. By changing the switches, four different configurations of patch array antennas are designed to investigate their performances in terms of radiation patterns, beam forming angle, gain, half-power bandwidth and impedance bandwidth at 28 GHz operating frequency for 5G application. Mircostrip antenna is preferred due to its low profile, easy in feeding and array configurations. Three different beam directions had been formed at -15°, 0°, and 15° with half-power bandwidth of range 45˚ to 50˚.
A four-element UWB MIMO antenna using SRRs for application in satellite commu...IJECEIAES
This paper proposes a method for designing a new ultra wide band (UWB) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with two and four elements. First we presented an ultra-wide band antenna we studied these performances. Then, we studied the application of metamaterials to the design of MIMO antennas for miniaturization and the performance of antennas, in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the MIMO system with a much reduced separation distance between the radiating elements (λ/12), where the coupling can be very weak. The application of these circular double ring SRRs materials on the front plan of the antenna has contributed to the increasing of the antenna performance is studied in terms of S-Parameters, efficiency, diversity gain (DG), radiation properties and envelop correlation coefficient (ECC). It offers advantages such as the reduction of weight and congestion that is beneficial for their integration into satellite communications systems.
A two-element planar multiple input multiple output array for ultra-wideband...IJECEIAES
In this article, a planar monopole two-element multiple input multiple output (MIMO) array has been designed and characterized with the intention of ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The array has a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) working bandwidth (BW) of 13.258 GHz between 3.394-16.652 GHz, with a fractional BW (FBW) of 132.28% with respect to a center frequency of 10.023 GHz. The two elements of the MIMO array are 900 polarizations mismatched for better isolation. Consequently, less than 20 dB of isolation has been achieved throughout the entire BW. Also observed was a good combined realized peak gain of up to 5.85 dBi and total efficiency of greater than 85%. For MIMO performance key parameters, the array exhibits the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) <0.0033, diversity gain (DG) >9.983, total active reflection coefficient (TARC) <0.445, mean effective gain difference (MEG12) ≈0 dB, and the channel capacity loss (CCL) <0.4 bps/Hz. This design would encourage designers to create highperformance MIMO antennas for UWB frequency-related applications.
A Triple Band Bow Tie Array Antenna Using Both-sided MIC Technology IJECEIAES
A single-fed linearly polarized 2x2 microstrip bow tie array antenna is proposed. The feed network has microstrip line and slot line where microstrip-slot branch circuit is connected in parallel. The feed network of the array is designed using both-sided M IC Technology to overcome the impedance matching problem of conventional feed networks. The 2x2 half bow tie array antenna is also truncated with spur lines for optimization of antenna performance. The array antenna unit can be realized in very simple and compact structure, as all the antenna elements and the feeding circuit is arranged on a Teflon glass fiber substrate without requiring any external network. The design frequency of the proposed antenna is 5 to 8 GHz (C- Band) and the obtained peak gain is 12.41 dBi. The resultant axial ratio indicates that linear polarization is achieved.

Rectangular and circular antennas design for Bluetooth applicationsTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The most researched and examined aspect of the communication system is the wireless connection. Without learning how to operate and use different types of antennas, your knowledge is incomplete. Microstrip patch antenna research has advanced significantly in recent years. When compared to standard antennas, microstrip patch antennas provide additional advantages and opportunities. It is of low volume, light weight, low cost, low appearance, compact and easy to manufacture. This study investigates the differences between rectangular and circular patch antennas. For Bluetooth applications, the center frequency of 2.4 GHz was chosen as the optimal resonant frequency. On a flame retardant (FR-4) epoxy substrate, the antenna dielectric constant is 4.4. Above the ground the base rises 3.6 mm. For the simulation process, high frequency simulation software (HFSS 15) is used as the program design. Antennas 1×1, 1×2, and 1×4 are designed for both circular and rectangular antennas. A comparison was made for both types of antennas and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), return losses, gain, directivity and half power beam width (HPBW) were found, and the feature of the rectangular antenna was shown.

A 2.45 GHz microstrip antenna with harmonics suppression capability by using ...journalBEEI
In this work, a microstrip patch antenna with an inset feed and defected ground structure (DGS) is designed at the resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz. The antenna is designed on a FR-4 substrate with a dielectric constant, εr of 4.5, loss tangent, tan δ of 0.019 and thickness, h of 1.6 mm. The technique of DGS is used to avoid the use of additional circuits in the antenna to suppress the harmonics. By introducing a single and additional slots DGS at both ends on the antenna ground plane, the proposed microstrip patch antenna is able to suppress the higher order harmonics. The reflection coefficient, S11 is -38.75 dB at 2.45 GHz. The proposed antenna have suppressed the higher order harmonics effectively from -38.04 dB to -2.61 dB at 4.54 GHz and from -13.08 dB to -1.38 dB at 5.76 GHz. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated for the verification of the design. The simulated and measured results are found to be in a good agreement.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

results. The structure is simple and easily incorporated with microwave and wireless devices.

I. Introduction
Due to unique characteristics of an Electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) Structure, it enables it to be used
in Radio frequency (RF) and microwave application which is considered to be among the significant
breakthrough in the EBG technology nowadays [1].
Because of the unique properties produced by the structure, it is widely used in various research fields
especially in RF design. Many exciting phenomena appear when periodic structures interact with
electromagnetic waves, which include band pass, band stop and also frequency band gap. The periodic structure
reviewed previously revealed that varieties of applications like guiding wave, reflector, photonic crystals and
photonic bandgap are the typical advantages derived. Others include wave propagation, noise reduction for high
speed electronic devices and mutual coupling effect reduction [2][3][4].
Recently there is significant increase in utilizing EBG structures in antenna community. By increasing
the coupling area of the adjacent metal patches, loading the lumped parameters [5], prolonging the connected
microstrip line between EBG units and moving the position of metal via [6], the size of EBG unit has been
reduced in varying degree. However, there remains some disadvantages, such as single-band, narrow bandwidth,
integrating difficulties, etc.
II. Electromagnetic Bandgap Structure Design
The EBG is designed with metallic patch and a ground plane of 0.035mm thickness and 13mm width
Ws, FR-4 substrate of 1.6mm thickness h, with a relative permittivity of 4.6 and a tangential loss of 0.019, a via
that connects the EBG patch with the ground plane of radius r 0.4mm.
LC filter could be used to explain the operation mode of the EBG. The parameter L (inductance) results
from the current that flow through the vias and the C (capacitance) is due to the gap effect between the
neighboring patches. The patch width Ws, substrate thickness h, gap width g and dielectric constant ɛr, the
inductance L, capacitance C and resonance frequency are related in the equations below [6][7][8].

Where g and Ws are the gap and the width of the EBG, h and ɛr are the substrate height and the
dielectric constant while ɛ0 and μ0 are the relative permittivity and permeability respectively. f0 is the resonance
frequency of the mushroom EBG.

Figure 1: slotted EBG structure design process
The mushroom EBG structure produces a single band but when four slots of 1mm by 10mm where
introduced and distributed symmetrically about the centre on the basis of the mushroom EBG structure, the
structure achieves a dual band gap.
It is found that each step extends the equivalent path of the current, with an increase in frequency band,
the figure below shows the structure of 3x3 dual band EBG structure. The EBG patches are separated 2mm from
each other, the transmission line is placed 1.6mm above the structure. By using the method of suspended
transmission line S2,1 value was measured.
Figure 2: 3 by 3 slotted Electromagnetic bandgap structure
The structure in figure 2 above is design and simulated using Computer Simulation Tool (CST)
software. Both the simulated and measured result shows the structure successfully achieves dual band gap
frequencies.
The individual bandwidths (≤ -20dB) from the simulated and measured result are 10.50% and 8.9%
percentage bandwidth at 1.80GHz and 4GHz are obtained from the simulation while 10.97% and 5% at 1.8GHz
and 4.3GHz are obtained fromthe measurement.

III. Current Distribution
Figure below shows the surface current distribution, it can be seen that outside the bandgap the current
is uniformly distributed along the suspended transmission line from port 1 to port two for both E-field and H-
field. While inside the bandgap the current is focused on the etching slots, it couldn’t reach port 2. This shows
that the structure can effectively suppress the surface wave in the entire pass band frequency.

inside the bandgap (at 4GHz and 1.8GHz)
IV. Conclusion
A multi-band Electromagnetic band gap structure using method of Suspended Transmission Line has
been designed, simulated, Fabricated and measured. The performance of multi-band microstrip antenna can be
increased when incorporated with the EBG structure.
