What is Electricity?
How important is electricity to you as a student and/or as
teachers in the pandemic times.
Electricity is the flow of electrical
power or charge. It is a secondary
energy source which means that we
get it from the conversion of other
sources of energy, like coal, natural
gas, oil, nuclear power and other
natural sources, which are called
primary sources.

Most Essential Learning Competency:
 Explain how electrical energy is generated,
transmitted and distributed. (S9FE-IVh-j-46)
Objectives:
1. Describe the energy transmission and distribution from a power station
to the community;
2. Explain the processes and principles underlying power transmission and
distribution;
3. Appreciate the importance of power plants in harnessing energy.
OBJECTIVES
Guess Me for a Load Bonus:
What device is used when there is a power
outage?
A generator is a device that transforms mechanical energy into electrical
energy, typically by electromagnetic induction via Faraday's Law. For
example, a generator might consist of a gasoline engine that turns a
crankshaft to which is attached a system of coils and/or magnets.
Brief Look Back:
Benjamin Franklin's experiment with a kite one stormy night
in Philadelphia, the principles of electricity gradually became
understood.
ENGAGE
Thomas Edison helped change everyone's life -- he
perfected his invention -- the electric light bulb.
 Prior to 1879, direct current (DC) electricity had been
used in arc lights for outdoor lighting.
In the late-1800s, Nikola Tesla pioneered the generation,
transmission, and use of alternating current (AC) electricity,
which can be transmitted over much greater distances than direct
current.
Tesla's inventions used electricity to bring indoor lighting to our
homes and to power industrial machines.

Activity 1: Know your Electrical Sources
Directions: identify the sources of electricity illustrated in each photo. Tell also if
the source of electricity uses a generator or do not use generator.

What company is in-charge of electrical energy
distribution in Ilocos Norte? No Abbreviation.
How is Electricity Transmitted and Distributed?
Have you identified your location and the locations
of power plants? How far are you from these power
plants?
Electricity can reach you because;
1. National Power Corporation (NPC). It regulates the Transmission
lines commonly put up between transmission substations.
Transmission lines may either be constructed overhead on towers
or they may be underground. They are operated at high voltages,
send out large amount of electrical power and extend over
considerable distances.
EXPLAIN
2. National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is the sole
transmission concessionaire in the country and is tasked to operate,
maintain, and further expand the national power grid as part of the reform
in the local power sector. The reduced power is then carried through lines
to the distribution system located in the local service area.
3. The distribution system connects the transmission system to the
customer’s households. Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative or INEC is in
charge of electrical energy distribution in Ilocos Norte. The
distribution system further step down the voltage to 3,400-19, 920
volts. A step down transformer further reduces the voltage to 220-
the standard AC voltage in the Philippines. This voltage powers most
of the electrical appliances we have at home.
In what ways are these renewable
source of energy beneficial to you as
human, as a part of the industry and
economy?
Guess me for a Load Bonus:
How much is the additional cost added to your current bill if you
failed to pay your electric bill on the due date?
