The document discusses effective online teaching. It begins by defining online learning as courses offered over the internet that are 100% virtual, excluding MOOCs. It states online learning should be innovative, granular, varied, interactive, and interesting. Blended learning combines online and in-person elements. The document outlines synchronous learning, which occurs in real-time, and asynchronous learning, which is flexible and self-paced. It provides strategies for asynchronous learning and notes online teaching requires front-loading work and new skills from instructors.

Trends come and go, but quality education will last a lifetime. In edWeb community, Blended Learning’s, latest webinar, attendees learned what best practice blended learning trends are, and how they can help support personalization of learning for each unique student. Webinar presenters, Tom Vander Ark, author of “Getting Smart: How Digital Learning is Changing the World” and CEO of Getting Smart, an education advocacy firm, and Tim Hudson, experienced educator and Senior Curriculum Designer for DreamBox Learning discussed effective blended learning approaches that benefit students and teachers. They shared ideas for how to use these strategies to support student engagement and achievement, particularly in elementary math.
Webinar attendees gained knowledge about many blended learning topics, including:
Emerging blended learning trends
Teaching and learning in an increasingly mobile world
How blended learning can boost elementary math achievement

Developing a Menu of Teaching Approaches to Encourage Deeper Engagement with TELIan Glover
Presented on 1st May 2014 at Blackboard Teaching and Learning Conference (#BbTLC2014) at University College Dublin. This worshop encouraged attendeed to engage with materials created by Sheffield Hallam University as part of their Changing the Learning Landscape (CLL) transforamtion project.
Is the question to flip or not? Or is the question - how do you provide quality learning experiences to maximise time? This presentation explores the whys and some hows of flipping learning. It also transfers this concept of a flipped classroom to a school library. Presented in 2013 at UQ Library cyberschool conference.
This presentation addresses student technology ownership patterns and preferences, hybrid learning models, as well as innovations/developments in microlearning, collaborative learning, and microcredentialing.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

4. Online learning
• Online learning involves courses offered by postsecondary
institutions that are 100% virtual, excluding massively open online
courses. Online learning, or virtual classes offered over the internet,
is contrasted with traditional courses taken in a brick-and-mortar
school building. Wikipedia
5. What online learning should be
• Online learning should be
• Innovative
• Granular
• Varied
• Interactive
• Interesting
• Better than traditional models
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
11. Blended learning
• Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online
educational materials and opportunities for interaction online with
traditional place-based classroom methods. It requires the physical
presence of both teacher and student, with some elements of student
control over time, place, path, or pace. Wikipedia
12.
13.
14. What online learning should not be
• Online learning should not be
• An online version of the traditional model
• Putting handouts online (ie a repository)
• A plethora of links to online material
• Non-interactive
16. Synchronous
• Synchronous learning refers to a learning event in which a group of
students are engaging in learning at the same time. Before learning
technology allowed for synchronous learning environments, most
online education took place through asynchronous learning
methods. Wikipedia
17. Asynchronous
• Asynchronous learning is a general term used to describe forms of
education, instruction, and learning that do not occur in the same
place or at the same time. It uses resources that facilitate information
sharing outside the constraints of time and place among a network of
people. Wikipedia
18. Advantages of asynchronous learning
• Better quality
• platforms
• material
• Convenience
• Wider reach across time zones
• Rehearsal
19. Disadvantages of asynchronous learning
• Does not suit all learners
• Requires some maturity and independence in the learner
• Lack of immediate answers to questions
• Lack of immediate feedback to teacher
20. Strategies for asynchronous learning
• Make the material dynamic
• Set clear learning objectives
• Pace the material
• Create space for collaboration
• Provide formative feedback and ad hoc support
• Learn from the feedback and change what doesn’t work
• Check all your URL links at the start of the semester
23. Finally…
• Online teaching is not an easy option for the teacher (or the learner)
• It is very ‘front-loaded’ and it has to be ‘right’
• You need to learn some new skills:
• YouTube
• Podcasting
• Blogging
• You should be willing to share your material
