The document describes a study investigating using a micro-electro-mechanical (MEM) relay configured as a diode for power conversion applications. A half-wave rectifier circuit was built using a MEM diode to demonstrate its utility. The MEM diode was able to achieve a nearly ideal I-V characteristic with very low forward voltage, but its high ON-state resistance limited output voltage at higher frequencies. For practical power conversion, further refinement of MEM relay technology is needed to reduce the relay's pull-in voltage and ON-state resistance.
