Plato was one of the most influential ancient Greek philosophers. He came into contact with Socrates and was greatly impacted by his teachings. After Socrates' death, Plato traveled extensively and was influenced by Egyptian and Italian systems of education. He published works like The Republic and Laws of Plato, which outlined his educational ideals and programs. Plato believed that education should develop the soul and refine innate knowledge through cultivating virtues. He emphasized a three-part curriculum and different types of education for rulers, soldiers, and other classes. While highly influential, his system was also limited by its neglect of certain groups and subjects.
