A school of thought is
understood as a set of ideas
regarding reality, knowledge,
and values. These three
aspects of a school of thought
are very important in
influencing the aims and
practices of education.

Idealism: ideas are the only true
reality, the only thing worth
knowing.

Originators : plato, Socrates
Meaning of idealism
The term Idealism is the combination of
two words: idea and ism . It is known as
spiritualism.
God is the source of all creation, all
knowledge.
Satyam Shivam sundaram(truth ,goodness
,beauty)

Idealism is the most ancient Thought
in world of philosophy .it has many
forms and deals with certain basic
questions of human life . Idealism
recognise ideas ,feelings ,and ideals
rather than material objects. it
emphasizes that human development
should be according to moral, ethical
and spiritual values through which
man acquired knowledge of unity in
Definition of Idealism:
J.S.Ross:”idealistic philosophy takes many
and varried forms,but the postulate
underlying all this is that mind or Spirit is
the essential world stuff, that the true
reality is of a mental character.”
D .M.Dutta : “idealism holds that ultimate
reality in spiritualism.”

In the western world a wave of
philosophical thinking developed
which was sponsored by
Plato, Socrates Descartes,
Berkeley, Fitche, Hegel, Hume,
Kant, Schelling,Pestalozzi,froebel
Spinoza and Gentile.,v

Man is the best creation of God.
Wisdom or intellectual enlightment is the
source of attaing true knowledge
Truth, goodness Beauty are the eternal values
which are essential qualities of human beings.

Personalistic idelism or subjective:
Berkele(existencee of mind
Absolute idealism: fitche and hegal (Only Self
(soul) is the reality
Objective idealism: plateau is originated
according to objective idolism there is no god
without world and there is no world without god god

Phenomenal idealism: Kant(Phenomenalistic
idealism claims that the physical world is
logically created by Organisation of human
sense of experience.)
Metaphysics of idealism
The self is the primary reality of
individual experience.
Ultimate reality is self.
Ultimate reality may be one or many.
The individual self has all the
freedom.
Epistemology of idealism
The ultimate knowledge is the
knowledge on spirituality.
Ideal and critical realism are like in the
treatment of perception to some extent.
Surrounding world is important
experience the self.
Reality to be logically unified total
system a universal mind.
Axiology of idealism
Values are real existents.
Evil is not real existent.
The value of human life what they are
largelybecause there are individual
person to processes and enjoy them.

  • 2. SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT OR 'ISM' A school of thought is understood as a set of ideas regarding reality, knowledge, and values. These three aspects of a school of thought are very important in influencing the aims and practices of education.
