Fredy Alexander Saavedra discusses five trends in higher education that are important for developing quality in the 21st century university. These trends include: autonomy, democracy, quality, comprehensive education, and the emergence of the virtual university. Autonomy allows universities to improve educational processes. Democracy means providing quality education for all students and teachers. Quality education forms citizens who can participate in decision making. Comprehensive education stimulates students' emotional, social, and ethical skills. The virtual university is a challenge that requires redefining the current concept of college education.

2. Educational management is conceived
as a set of processes, decision making
and implementation of actions that can
be performed by pedagogical practices,
implementation and evaluation.

3. Educational management aims to intervene in
the administration cycle stages of planning,
organization, execution, evaluation and
control.

4. In this work I will try to explain five
trends that have been presented at
the Higher Education, which I think
are important and fundamental in
the development of the search
quality of the university of the
century XXI, such as; Autonomy,
democracy, quality, comprehensive
education and the emergence of
the virtual university.

5. Autonomy presupposes action on priority
issues in the improvement and
transformation of educational processes
in institutions, such as: the
interrelationship of educational
management with quality of educational
processes, connecting with educational
management with pedagogical theories
and development human, linking
educational management in the context
of the academy community relationship
for the transformation of society and the
achievement of financial resources.

6. The concept of democracy is closely linked
with the quality of education, which means
it should cover all the students and teachers
which means we must develop a quality
work environment in educational
organizations, through the
institutionalization of concepts and
practices, able to promote the human
development and quality of life for students,
teachers and administrative staff.

7. In this sense, the institutional
strengthening of institutions of
higher education should promote
the democratization based on a
policy of engagement.

8. Quality education seeks to form
citizens capable of understanding
the complex interrelationships
between science, technology and
areas: social, economic, political and
cultural order that in the future,
whatever their field of activity have
the essential tools to participate in
decision making that contributes to
building a democratic society based
on scientific and technological
development.

9. Formed integrally with critical vision is to educate
the whole person, also stimulating their emotional,
social and ethical skills.
We need to be educated and intelligent students,
but also be respectful, responsible, partners and
good citizens; with values ​​and skills to live these
values ​​in their daily lives. And for that, we need
also the educational professionals and families, are
models of the exercise of these skills and know
stimulate in children and youth.

10. The implementation of the virtual university
is another challenge for the XXI century
education requires redefining the current
concept of college, explore and build a
concept of virtual education, its meaning
and objectives. Each institution will have to
make efforts to build their own model
without forgetting that there are now other
references and experiences where you can
adopt some techniques that serve as
paradigms that adopt best practices.

11. In short, the University of the Century XXI has several
challenges: strengthening the figure of university autonomy,
establishes a democratic environment, improve the quality of
education, strengthen the integral education, and build the
virtual university.
