Tchoukball pronounced chewk-ball, is a fast paced, team game that can both be played indoor or outdoor. The game was developed in the 1970s by a Swiss biologist Dr. Hermann Brandt. This game is played with two rebound frames called “nets” that are located at both ends of the court. And the goal is to score a point. How does a team score a point? A player in a team must throw the ball onto the “net” and have the ball land on the ground outside the “forbidden zone.” What’s the fuss about this game? It seems like every other sport. There is something special about tchoukball and that is no defense played in this game!

4. Origin
■ Tchoukball was created in Switzerland.
■ Dr. Hermann Brandt is the developer of the
sport.
■ As a Doctor, Dr. Brandt created a game that is
competitive and does not involve contact.

5. Where to Play?
■ Tchoukball is usually played on an indoor court.
■ The dimensions of the courts are
– 27 meters x 16 meters (27m x 16m)
■ There are two frames on a court.

■ Each team can have 3-4 players, total of
6-8 players on the court.
■ Any one on the team can score a point.
■ In a regulationTchoukball game, there is

11. Passing
■ Ball is held in both hands
■ Fingers spread on the sides of the ball with the thumbs behind the ball
■ Ball held about chest high with the elbows held at the sides of the body
■ Ball is released by extending the arms fully, snapping wrists, and stepping in the
direction of the pass
■ Palms should be facing downward or slightly outward, with the elbow chest high on
the follow through

12. Catching
■ "Athletic Stance"
■ Keep eyes on the ball
■ Adjust body to the path of the ball
■ Legs should be parallel
■ Watch the ball
■ Palms face out, thumbs towards the incoming pass
■ On contact with the ball, absorb the force by bringing the ball close to the body

13. Catching the Ball
■ If the ball hits any part below
your knee it considered not a
catch.
■ If the ball hits the ground it is
not a catch.

14. Shooting
■ Grip the ball with dominant hand (right hand if right handed) and plam under the ball
■ Face the target
■ Point the elbow away from the body as the arm moves backwards
■ Push off with the rear foot and step with the other foot in the direction of the target
■ The throwing arms continues across the body for the follow through

16. How to Score
■ You must throw the ball off the frame and make
it land outside the forbidden zone.
– Without someone from the other team
catching the ball
■ You can attack either of the two frames
■ You are not limited to one end of the playing
field like other sports.

17. Defense Strategy
■ To prevent a point you can catch
the ball as it is.
■ Anticipate where the ball is going
to land.
■ Communicate with teammates
and have areas each player has to
cover when the team is not in
possession of the ball.

■ Intercepting passes or attempts to
block the thrower is not allowed.
■ Any type of defensive play besides
catching a ball is considered a foul

19. What is Allowed!The rule of 3s.
■ 3 passing limit per team then they must shoot at
either frame
■ A player can hold the ball for only 3 seconds
■ A player can take a limit of 3 steps

20. Fouls
■ All fouls result in the other’s team possession.
■ Intercepting or blocking the ball.
■ Taking more than 3 steps.
■ Holding the ball longer than 3 seconds.
■ Passing more than 3 passes.
■ Player stepping out of bounds with the ball.
■ Stepping in the forbidden zone with the ball.
■ Hitting the metal frame of the net with the ball.
