VOLLEYBALL
• It is a ball game that consists of 2 teams in which a ball is
hit over a net, the aim is to score points by making the
ball reach the opponent's court.
• Volleyball has six basic skills: Serve, Dig, Pass, Set,
Spike and Block.
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
• Volleyball Court Dimensions - The Volleyball court is 60 feet by 30 feet in
total. The net in placed in the center of the court, making each side of the
net 30 feet by 30 feet.
• Center Line - A center line is marked at the center of the court dividing it
equally into 30 feet squares, above which the net is placed.
• Attack Line - An attack line is marked 10 feet of each side of the center
line.
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
• Playing Area - Both indoor and outdoor courts are 18 m x 9mi (29'6" x
59'). Indoor courts also include an attack area designated by a line 3 m (9'10")
back from the center line. Lines on the court are 5cm (2" wide).
• Net Height - Net height for men, co-ed mixed 6, & outdoor is 2.43 meters
or 7'11-5/8". Net height for women, 7'4-1/8". The height of the net shall be
8'.
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
• Ball - The ball weighs between 9 and 10 ounces. Ball pressure is between
4.5 and 6.0 pounds
• Service Line - A service line, the area from which the server may serve the
volleyball, is marked 10 feet inside the right sideline on each back line.
Poles - Volleyball poles should be set at 36 feet apart, 3 feet further out
from the sidelines.
• Ceiling Height - The minimum ceiling height should be 23 feet, though
they should preferably be higher.
BASIC SKILLS
• Serve
• It is the attempt to drive the ball into the opponent's court
• There are 2 basic serve: underhand serve and overhand serve
• How to Serve
• Underhand Serve
• First the player need to hold the ball with their non-dominant hand, drop
the ball slightly and finally hit the ball with the dominant hand.
BASIC SKILLS
• Overhand Serve
• First hold the ball with the non-dominant hand then toss the ball 2-3 feet
in front of the body and then hit it with the strong and hard surface of the
dominant hand.
BASIC SKILLS
• Pass
• The ability to prevent the ball from touching one's court by bumping or
passing the ball.
• How to Pass
• First the player need to bend their knees for ready position. The player
also needs to make their forefingers perpendicular and thumbs are parallel to
each other. Lastly when the ball is coming, the player need to make sure that
their arms are straight and hit the ball either by wrist and arms.
BASIC SKILLS
• Dig
• The attempt by a team to properly handle the opponent's serve or any
form of attack.
• How to Dig
• Almost same as pass because it is both an attempt to receive ball properly,
but unlike in pass, in dig a player can use different parts of their bodies such
as hands, foot, arms and sometimes legs just to save the ball.
BASIC SKILLS
• Set
• A tactical skill in which a ball is directed to a point where a player can
spike it in the opponent's court.
• How to Set
• First a player need to make sure that their hand can accommodate the
shape of the ball then set or toss the ball above the head by pushing the ball
and extending their arms.
BASIC SKILLS
• Spike
• An act of scoring the ball over the net into the opposing court effectively
and aggressively.
• How to Spike
• First the dominant foot should take the first step and then follow by the
non-dominant foot. For example right-left foot step then fast rightleft foot
steps then jump and hit the ball.
BASIC SKILLS
• Block
• An action taken by players by standing or jumping at the front of the net
to stop or alter an opponent's attack.
• How to Block
• First a player should be in a ready position: bend knees and elbows, and
hands are raise in front of the face. The blocker should be alert and ready to
run left or right the moment the setter set the ball to the spiker. The blocker
needs to jump straight with extended arms and spread fingers.
TEAMS
• A team consists of 6 players on their side of the court at one time. player
positions are: right front-RF, center front- CF, left front-LF, right back
(serving position)- RB, center back- CB, and left back LB.
• All players must be on the court during the serve, except the server.
• after the serve, all players are allowed to go out of bounds to hit the ball.
PLAYING THE GAME
• A point is scored on every play/serve; and a score is worth 1 point.
• The ball is served by the player in the RIGHT BACK position, and s/he will
continue serving the ball until that team fails to score a point.
• When one team loses their serve it is called a side out, and the other team
will rotate positions and then they get to serve the ball.
• You only rotate when you win the serve (which is a side out); and your team
will then rotate one position in a clockwise direction
PLAYING THE GAME
• Before each serve, the server will call out the score of the game by saying his/her
team’s score first, followed by the score of the other team. So if your team has 2
points and the other team has 1 point, you would say “2 serving 1 ,” and then serve
the ball.
• • Three hits are allowed on each side, but no more than 3. A team can hit the ball
less than 3 times per side.
• • A game consists of 25 points, and you must win by 2.
• • A match consists of 3 games to 25 points. The team who wins 2 out of 3 games
wins the match.
RULES
• The ball can touch the net at any time and still be in play.
• A player can not touch the net or go over the middle line at any time during the game.
• The same person can not hit the ball twice in a row.
• The service line is 10 yards away from the net, and the server must stand behind this
line.
• A foot fault occurs when the server steps on or over the service line.
• The sidelines mark the left and right sides of the court, and they are 10 yards apart.
• All lines are “in,” so any ball that hits the line is considered good or in-bounds.

  • 14. PLAYING THE GAME • A point is scored on every play/serve; and a score is worth 1 point. • The ball is served by the player in the RIGHT BACK position, and s/he will continue serving the ball until that team fails to score a point. • When one team loses their serve it is called a side out, and the other team will rotate positions and then they get to serve the ball. • You only rotate when you win the serve (which is a side out); and your team will then rotate one position in a clockwise direction
  • 15. PLAYING THE GAME • Before each serve, the server will call out the score of the game by saying his/her team’s score first, followed by the score of the other team. So if your team has 2 points and the other team has 1 point, you would say “2 serving 1 ,” and then serve the ball. • • Three hits are allowed on each side, but no more than 3. A team can hit the ball less than 3 times per side. • • A game consists of 25 points, and you must win by 2. • • A match consists of 3 games to 25 points. The team who wins 2 out of 3 games wins the match.
  • 16. RULES • The ball can touch the net at any time and still be in play. • A player can not touch the net or go over the middle line at any time during the game. • The same person can not hit the ball twice in a row. • The service line is 10 yards away from the net, and the server must stand behind this line. • A foot fault occurs when the server steps on or over the service line. • The sidelines mark the left and right sides of the court, and they are 10 yards apart. • All lines are “in,” so any ball that hits the line is considered good or in-bounds.
