Coaching Philosophy
“People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or
the problems of modern society.” ~ Vince Lombardi
I picked this quote because I believe that coaches and players have to work together in
order to achieve each other’s goals. When you work together to achieve goals and treat athletes
with respect, winning becomes easier as a coach and player. Coaching is a privilege along with
being a profession. Coaching should come from someone who loves the game that they coach. If
they don’t have a passion for the game, it is just like any other job. I coach because I have a love
for the game and I find enjoyment in the mentoring position I am in as a coach. I enjoy helping
athletes succeed and reach their fullest potential through coaching.
My coaching philosophy is a cooperative style of coaching, where both player and coach
create a relationship of having fun and contributing to success. What a lot of coaches don’t
understand, or lose sight of, is that the sport is supposed to be fun. If the players are having fun,
they respond better when it comes to work ethic and attitude. I believe that a coach will have a
better team if they make the player’s or athletes experiences more enjoyable. However, just
because you are having fun, doesn’t mean you can’t be serious at times. As a coach, you should
have better discipline, attitudes, and team unity if you interact and make the sport enjoyable
while teaching the game the right way.

2. I believe in equality and fairness. Everyone should get treated the same no matter who
they are or what position they play. When I coach, I will be laying the rules down to everybody
in the beginning of the season so they know what to expect if the rules are broken. All players
will have an equal opportunity to compete based on the dedication and hard work they
demonstrate at practices and out of the season.
I also believe in caring about my players on an individual basis. My philosophy is to be a
player’s coach, but also a leader who can command what the players can or cannot do on the
court or field. I want players or athletes to be able to come talk to me as a coach and friend if
they have any problems. The last thing I want is for my players to be scared of me. I want them
to be confident in my skills of being a coach. Becoming successful comes with confidence and
by not being nervous in how you coach your players. You must also keep your athletes
confident so that they believe in you as a coach and in themselves to perform optimally. My
goal is to eliminate as much anxiety from players as I can, so that they can perform to the top of
their ability.
In conclusion, I believe my coaching philosophy can be beneficial for everyone and lead
athletes to success. I give the players a fair chance to succeed, and I have a care about the
athlete’s first and winning second mentality, and I have a cooperative style of coaching that can
bring players and coaches together to accomplish team goals. I am confident in how I coach, and
I believe and live by the values it upholds.
