2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
Â
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Lesson 5: Enumerate and Explain the Different
Types of Graphic Organizers
Presented to:
Dr. Ava Clare Marie O. Robles
Class Schedule: TFR/ 9:00-10:30
Presented By:
Kenneth B. Banaban
2. Identify the different types of
graphic organizers.
Know and understand the
advantage of using this.
Develop the ability to
present lessons using
graphic organizers.
4. Uses:
Used to show how a series of events
interact to produce a set of results again
and again (weather phenomena, cycles of
achievement and failure, the life cycle).
Used for helping students understand how
an events or issues can be circular or cyclic.
Used for organizing information that is
circular or cyclical, with no absolute
beginning or ending.
6. Venn
diagram
â˘Is a series of circles (most often three) that
overlap to show the possibilities of various data
sets. It is also a pictorial representation of
relationships. Shared characteristics are listed
in the overlapping section allowing for easy
identification of which characteristics are
shared and which are not. It was developed by
a mathematician named John Venn in 1880.
7. Uses:
Used to show all possible logical relations
between a finite collection of sets.
Used as a graphic organization tool when
comparing and contrasting two things.
Used to illustrate the relationship between
events and the corresponding sample space.
9. Graphic organizers are one way
for visual thinkers to arrange their ideas.
Can be used in all phases of learning
from brainstorming ideas to presenting
findings. They can be used individually
or in large groups. Some of this are the
cycle which is used to show how events
interact and the Venn diagram which is
used to illustrate relationships.
