32 Food Myths That You Need to Stop Believing TodayMealime
Every day, it seems that there's a new "superfood" on the block promoting unique weight loss and health benefits.
And many times every day, a new nutrition article is published regurgitating food myths that have long since been proven false by science.
It's a sad truth that nutrition news is filled with blatantly false information despite scientific consensus. So we went in search of the most repeated food myths that still persist today in spite of evidence proving the opposite.
Our research uncovered 32 food myths that appear time and time again.
We still believed many of these myths until we learned the data-supported positions of scientists around the world.
We learned that it's incredibly important to approach nutrition news with an attitude of suspending beliefs until data can back them up (or refute them).
So look for the data we did...
This list of food and nutrition myths is far from comprehensive, but I'm sure many of them will surprise you. We're hoping that you'll consider the myths here, do your own research, and come to your own, data-driven conclusions.
After all, that's what knowledge is all about.
Let's get to the food myths.
SOUP aka Potage is a primarily liquid food, generally served warm (but may be cool or cold), that is made by combining ingredients such as meat and vegetables with stock, juice, water, or another liquid. Hot soups are additionally characterized by boiling solid ingredients in liquids in a pot until the flavors are extracted.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

14. Burger King
• BK Fish Sandwich and fries have a whopping 1,000
calories – nearly half of your daily caloric intake! Fish is
only healthy when it’s not breaded and fried in partially
hydrogenated oil.
15. Pizza Hut
• A standard pizza in Italy contains 500-800 calories, but
the same meal at Pizza Hut can top 2,100 calories! You
would need to ride a stationary bike for 3 hours to burn
off this meal!
16. Cold Stone Creamery
• You can save 40 calories and 2 grams of fat by choosing
shaved chocolate, not chocolate chips, as your topping!
17. Olive Garden and Outback
• Neither of these restaurants provide nutritional information
on their menu items…wonder why?
• Olive Garden – a plate of Grilled Chicken Marsala has
1,315 calories and 86 grams of fat!
• Outback – the Aussie Cheese Fries have an unbelievable
2,900 calories making it the single WORST food in
America!
18. Keep in mind…
• 2/3 of US adults are now overweight and the obesity rate
has increased 50% since 1960.
• The food industry spends 30 billion a year on advertising
- 70% of that is for convenience foods, candy, soda and
desserts!
• Even the experts are confused.

Editor's Notes
TIP: Wraps can pack a ton of calories in a sneaky way! The Caesar dressing is also loaded with fat.
TIP: I make sure to get brown rice in my burrito bowl because it’s packed with fiber and keeps you full longer. Avoid piling on the sour cream and cheese to lower your fat intake.
TIP: make sure and ask for an apple as a side instead of bread
2/3 of US adults are now overweight and the obesity rate has increased 50% since 1960. Is this bc we all just turned into junk food junkies? No, its bc restaurants and food marketers are loading our meals with empty calories and there is nothing we can do about it…. But be INFORMED!
The food industry spends 30 billion a year on advertising - 70% of that is fore convenience foods, candy, soda and dessert!
Even the experts are confused. In a Cornell Univ study, 85 grad students and nutrition science professors served themselves ice cream. They underestimated their own serving size and caloric intake by 40 %!
Personalize your order – ask to leave off certain items such as cheese, bacon or spreads. Ask for things on the side. Be aware of the “sides” such as fries, etc.
Think Thin or Naked– ordering thin crust can save you almost 1,000 calories. Ordering a burrito “naked” saves you approx 800 calories
