This document summarizes a study on using a Unified Power Quality Compensator (UPQC) device to improve the connection of a wind farm to a weak power grid. The UPQC regulates the wind farm's terminal voltage and mitigates voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling caused by load changes and fluctuating wind power. Simulations show the UPQC effectively regulates voltage and filters power pulsations using coordinated control of its series and shunt converters to allow active power exchange through the DC link.
