It includes introductions of panel members, an agenda, feedback from previous trainings, clarification of logistics and policies, and announcements of changes for upcoming sessions. Instructors are encouraged to consult their manuals for guidance and to share strategies for managing paperwork. A pilot program combining two topics and a new CE program for healthcare professionals are also announced. The orientation aims to prepare instructors to effectively deliver training and address participant needs and questions.
Mentor Orientation for Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) ProgramJulia Soto
Guidance for mentors and supervisors for Saturday Academy's high school internship program (ASE). Including how the program works, what we expect, and tips for helping your student be successful during an eight-week internship.
Cooking skills are critical for achieving health and sustainable dietary goals and yet they are in general decline in the UK. Community based cooking skills projects that aim to fill this skills gap are also in decline due to cut backs in public funding. Since cooking skills projects are diverse in scope (i.e. target group, model of intervention and intended outcome) and there is a lack of centralised support for them at the national level (in England); standards and requirements demanded by those commissioning them at the local level can vary and be unrealistic.
Schools are beginning to move away from a punitive system of consequences towards Restorative Practices. This overview introduces some of the key concepts related to this shift in educational mindset.
Successful student completion of study is a key measure of success for all learning programs. However, what enables some students to succeed in a program while others' struggle is less understood.
In 2016, ACAP embarked on research into student completions for its vocational programs to gain a better understanding of why some students passed and others failed in the same study programs.
In these slides, Sharon Aris and Elisa McLeod present their paper on a highly successful student intervention program called ‘The Coaching Clinic’ that formed a key part of the response to its completions program.
Statistical data and case study examples are used in this presentation to provide insights into the key interventions that enabled nine in ten students referred to this program to successfully complete their studies. Key elements of the clinic include a case management approach, strengths-based learning and a ‘no shame’ policy towards student support.

In the archbischop colums post, Mgr Chaput comments on the recent Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia of Pope Francis’
In an age when people’s nerves are rubbed raw by information they don’t like, it’s easier to skip the thinking and get straight to the arguing, writes Archbishop Charles Chaput. He believes “The Joy of Love” must be understood in the context of the Catholic wisdom that frames it.
he writes:
At more than 250 pages, the Holy Father’s recent Apostolic Exhortation on love in the family, Amoris Laetitia(“The Joy of Love”) can seem daunting — a bit like staring at the summit of Mt. Everest from base camp. But that’s where the likeness ends. This is a document accessible to any adult interested in his or her faith. And it deserves to be read thoroughly at a reflective pace. It also needs to be weighed carefully in light of St. John Paul II’s Familiaris Consortio, the theology of the body, and other preceding Church documents on marriage and the family.
Like his earlier text Evangelii Gaudium (“The Joy of the Gospel”), Francis’ post-synodal thoughts on the family are vividly written and rich with excellent teaching, offered in a style appealingly his own. Those seeking a change in Catholic teaching on marriage, divorce, family and sexuality will be disappointed, as headlines in the secular press have already shown. Others may find moments in the text of Chapter 8 when the stress on pastoral sensitivity in irregular marital situations seems ambiguous in its content.
Evaluation is a process of making judgements to be used as a basis for planning. It consists of stablishing goals, collecting evidence, concerning growth towards goals, making judgements about the evidence and revising procedures and goals in the light of judgements. It is for improving the product, the process and even the goals in themselves.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? - Enhancement of Supervision and Examination P...Luigi Vanfretti
Some supervisors and examiners think they are great, they are actually convinced about it, but are they really as good as they think? How have they arrived at such conclusion and would this conclusion be valid in the presence of hard data? If you ask students, you might find a different answer, and hard data will show that.
In general, supervisors and examiners are reluctant on having their performance evaluated, however, if they are to enhance their practice, a systematic approach needs to be used where they can obtain knowledge about their strengths and weaknesses which would allow them to take informed decisions on how to improve their practice.
This project aims to derive strategies that will lead to a systematic enhancement of the quality of supervision and examination by using quantitative and qualitative methods. The author began assessing his performance from 2011-2013, and using the available data, a new method and instruments for quality enhancement will be derived in the future.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Editor's Notes
Now would be a good time to briefly discuss the Spring ISP
-4 in February
-4 in March (not secured yet, may need to be cancelled)
Remind everything about the blackboard site to look for helpful information/create discussion boards with each other.
Subs/Replacements – Anyone who is attending the training in place of someone else should sign in on the sign in sheet by crossing out the name of the person they are filling in for and writing their name underneath the crossed out name. Then they should sign next to their name indicating they were present. So if I, Jennifer Pryor, am attending the training in place of Jay White, I would find him on the sign in sheet, cross out his name and write my name underneath his. Then I would sign in the signature box. Please make sure these are legible, as I have to create certificates from these sign-in sheets.
No Shows – Don’t worry about them. They didn’t show up, and I will know that because they will not have signed next to their name. Also, you will be sending their certificates back.
Late Shows – Make sure they sign in. You can do this on a break. Remember to consult your P&P Manual for the restrictions regarding late comers.
Payment status – Is indicated on the roster. If there is a “Yes” in the payment column, this means they paid by check. If there is a “No”, they registered by mail or fax, but payment has not been received. Those who register and pay online will have (cc paid) after their name. If someone has not paid, and would like to pay at the training, you may accept their check or money order and include it in your return folder.
On-Site Registration/Unregistered participant – If someone shows up to the training who is not a substitute and is not on your roster, you must have them fill out one of the registration forms included in your packet prior to signing in on the sign in sheet. Again, if they show up a little late, you may take care of this paperwork over a break. Include these registration forms with payment in your return folder.
Certificates – The certificates included in your box of materials are for those who have registered and paid by the time I mail out the box. Generally, you will have a certificate for each person who is pre-printed on the sign in sheet (unless payment was not received). Anyone else in attendance will receive their certificate by mail.
CEUs – Collect the bottom portion of the CEU form along with a check or money order for $10 and include these in your return folder. Please make sure that the participant keeps the top portion because it includes the necessary information for retrieving their CEU transcript.
Also, remember that certificates will not be given to those who arrive late, leave early, leave the training for a long duration (instructor should use best judgment).
