Case Study on Sourcing Opportunities in South AfricaJohn William
South Africa is the second-largest economy in the continent. The country is a regional manufacturing centre and is considered to be the African continent’s most diversified economy. Leading the country in terms of export is the metals and precious stones’ industry, with a value of 16.5 billion USD. Although the number of suppliers is below 100, the mineral fuel, automotive, and the ores and slag industry are not too far behind in exporting goods. The top export destinations of SA are China, Japan, USA, Germany, Italy, India and the Netherlands amongst others. From diamonds and platinum to petroleum oils and coal, precious items strengthen the country’s economy and also make South Africa a worldwide sourcing hub. To know in details about the country’s economic state, get in touch with South Africa sourcing service providers and read the pdf.

Study on Sourcing Opportunities in BrazilJohn William
The economy of Brazil is developing and it is the world’s 9th largest free-market economy in terms of the GDP. In 2018, their oil seeds industry achieved an export value of 33.5 billion USD, with the top destinations being the Netherlands, China, Thailand, Spain and Taipei. Following this mark is the country’s mineral fuels sector with its natural gas and crude oil reaching a value of $29.6 billion. The mining industry also backs them up with its iron ore business, which climbed up to $23.6 billion by mostly exporting in Japan, China, Korea, Germany, and the Netherlands. Although not close to its top mark, Brazil also relies on its industrial machinery and steel and iron products. Check the complete report for insights into the region’s sourcing opportunities that are displayed using stats and graphical representations.

INVESTIGATIVE AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION ON
AFRICA’S TOP MINING DESTINATIONS
Mining Indaba and Global Business Reports (GBR) have collaborated to bring a unique annual
report, Mining in Africa Country Investment Guide (MACIG). Each annual edition highlights a new
set of 15 to 20 of Africa’s most progressive mining jurisdictions. Filled with interviews from mining
ministers, analysts, mining CEOs, and more, MACIG offers qualitative and quantitative analysis on
why selected countries are ripe for foreign direct investment. Conference delegates in attendance
will receive a complimentary copy of the 3rd
annual edition.
MACIG is the only official publication providing
country-specific information at Africa's
key mining event, Investing in African Mining Indaba
in collaboration with
A DYNAMIC AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMME
As the market changes, so do the demands of our delegates. A
thorough remodel of the conference agenda includes the integration
of the Investment Discovery Forum (IDF) into the main agenda;
more market themed panels featuring more mining corporations
participating in panel discussions; a hybrid model for corporate
mining presentations of stand-alone presenters and CEO panel
discussions.
NEW OPENING TIME ON MONDAY MORNING!
You asked, we listened - our delegates wanted extended content
and exhibition hours. Be sure to arrange your travel for the earlier
opening time of 09:00 on Monday 8 February!
A MORE ENCOMPASSING INVESTOR PROGRAMME
Interest in the Mining Indaba Investor Programme tripled directly
after the launch of the VIP Investor Programme in 2015. The
enhanced 2016 programme accommodates varying levels of
investors. There are many benefits for accredited investors; be sure
to check out the details and get your application in! (See page 10)
ENHANCED NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES
Three critical components have been added to enhance the
already robust, deal-making networking opportunities:
1. NEW commodity specific speed-networking sessions on
the exhibition floor
2. NEW Networking Roundtables - opportunities for small
groups of delegates to exchange business cards and
discuss critical market topics
3. A MORE personalised business matchmaking system to
better align networking opportunities with your business
interests

South Africa (and, more broadly, Africa) is
one of the global powerhouses in the mining
sector. On the other side, as two of the
world’s largest and fastest growing emerging
economies, China and India play a major role
in driving the global demand for commodities.
Given these factors, an analysis of how the
slowdown in China and faster growth in India
will affect the global mining sector emerges as
one of the most important questions in today’s
global economic environment. At the African
Mining Indaba Conference, I look forward to
sharing my perspective on this question.

In today’s environment, caution prevails in the mining industry due to the uncertainty of commodity prices.
The importance of understanding the risks and making well-informed business decisions is even more
critical. The African Mining Ministerial Forum, will showcase Mining Ministers from exciting destinations
across the continent, who will discuss developments in light of the present state of the industry. Each
Minister will outline their reserves as well as the case for investment both in the short and long-term. They
will highlight government initiatives that will safeguard stakeholders, therefore creating opportunities for
many questions and potential for more candid dialogues following the presentations.

11. You are in the right place at the right time. Mining Indaba remains the largest global gathering of African mining executives. Investors who
continue to be upbeat about the long-term outlook for the mining and metals sector in Africa can now source good assets under good
management at good prices. Building from the launch of the VIP Investor Programme in 2015, the Mining Indaba Investor Programme has been
enhanced to make it easier for qualified investors to meet with mining companies at the world’s largest mining investment conference.
Private equity investment into mining is already at $1.76bn

potential opportunities. This year, Appian sent 12 investment professionals to Indaba and we intend on maintaining our strong presence at the
conference next year, in what is a core investment market for us.

no cost. Investors who are currently managing assets in the mining,

I find the annual Investing in African Mining Indaba, in Cape Town, invaluable for keeping in touch with management
teams that Sprott already has investments in, and for seeking out new opportunities for our clients. Attendance at
the conference should be compulsory for all serious investors in the African space.

13. Attracting the right skill set to the mining sector has never been more difficult. As the mining industry evolves with the latest cycle and
pushes to remain a competitive industry on the international stage, the skills and experiences required of graduates entering the sector are
also changing. In order to meet these new challenges, the 2016 Mining Indaba is launching an opportunity for mining companies, students
and graduates to interact on the Thursday morning of the event. The exhibition floor will host a number of HR representatives from the
leading players in Africa’s mining sector and a parallel careers workshop will also take place within the convention centre. The workshop
aims to be highly interactive with plenty of opportunity for students and recent graduates to discuss career prospects within the sector.
AGENDA FOR THE 2016 MINING INDABA CAREERS WORKSHOP
09:00 – 09:45 Overview of the global mining industry – What are the key trends?
09:45 – 10:30 Changing requirements – Identifying quality candidates for a mining sector role
10:30 – 11:15 Tips on engaging with mining companies – The do’s and don’ts
11:15 – 12:00 Three 15-minute mining company presentations
INTERESTED IN ATTENDING THE MI YOUNG LEADERS CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME?

process. More details can be found at www.miningindaba.com
As questions of sustainability increasingly take centre stage when considering the African mining vision, this year we will be working
with a number of new organisations and individuals, as well as our traditional partner ICMM, to expand the programme for Thursday
and ensure that it engagingly and effectively addresses this important subject. We look forward to announcing the full details of
the programme which is being developed with input from significant commentators on sustainability, and important organisations
including the African Development Bank, African Minerals Development Centre, Africa Union Commission, ICMM, Mining Dialogues
360˚, UNECA and the World Bank Group.
