The Power Of Parliament And Parliamentary Sovereignty
Prior to the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution the Crown acted outside Parliament,
causing there to be a struggle for power between the King, the Courts and the Parliament in the
17th Century. Eventually the Courts and Parliament defeated the power of the King and
Parliamentary Sovereignty emerged. Parliamentary sovereignty holds that parliament has absolute
sovereignty it is the supreme law maker over all other government institutions. There are no legal
limitations on the legislative competence of Parliament and no person is allowed to override or
set aside the law of Parliament. R (on the application of Jackson) v AG (2005) shows that the
definition of an Act of Parliament differs according to whether it has been passed with consent of
House of Commons and Lords or just the House of Commons. The courts have the power to decide
if a document is an Act of Parliament. In this case they found that the Parliament Act 1949 and the
Hunting Act 2004 were passed under procedure laid down by Parliament Act 1949 and are valid
statutes. For Dicey, it was the very keystone of the law of the constitution that Parliament is the
sovereign or supreme legislative authority in the state. He defined Parliamentary Sovereignty as The
principle of Parliamentary sovereignty means neither more nor less than this, namely, that
Parliament has, under the English constitution, the right to make or unmake any law whatever; and,
further, that no person or body is recognised by

Stereotypes Of Women In Math Essay
In the mathematical field there is an obvious differentiation between the amount of males and
females in the field. This might raise the question of why that is or if there even is a specific reason,
well there is, women are heavily pushed away from mathematical careers due to multiple factors.
Although there are not many females in the math field, the ones that are bring different ways of
thinking into light which helps the math careers grow and improve. Even though women do have
different perspectives and outlooks on things, the way they do math is not very different, but
unfortunately when put in pressured situations women seem to underperform compared to when
they are in a calm, unpressured environment. One way that people could rid of... Show more content

They both have different ways of solving math and men most times have the advantage over
women due to the heavy impact of stereotypes on women. In the article Knowing is Half the Battle:
Teaching Stereotypes Threats as a Means of Improving Women s Math Performance it states that
there are many affects that stereotypes have on women that effect their performance including
anxiety and other affective and cognitive responses. (John) When stereotypes are put into play, they
cause problems and the people cannot perform properly because they start to believe the lies of the
stereotypes. One thing from New Trends in Gender and Mathematics Performance: A Meta
Analysis writes that women perform better in a setting where there are no stereotypes versus a
setting that has stereotypes. (Lindberg) This shows that college student women do not perform
well when they are pressured by the stereotypes people say to them, but when put in a place where
there are no stereotypes pressuring them they do better in their mathematical performance.
Stereotypes are one of the main reasons that females have trouble with competing against males,
because they feel that they are not good enough. Stereotypes are a huge problem when deciding
what to do for a career, but when there is a way to deplete stereotypes it might change the

Roark And Peter Gaining And Ayn Rand s Fountainhead, The...
Live and act within the limit of your knowledge and keep expanding it to the limit of your life.
Redeem your mind from the hockshops of authority. Accept the fact that you are not
omniscient...In place of your dream of an omniscient automaton, accept the fact that any
knowledge man acquires is acquired by his own will and effort, and that that is his distinction in
the universe, that is his nature, his morality, his glory, a quote from Rand s For the New
Intellectual that defines one of the topics in Fountainhead; the American Dream. The characters
Howard Roark and Peter Keating strive for their dreams, reflecting different sides of the path of
success society created of the communal mind, and individuals created of the independent mind.
The upward journey and the viewing of the upward world as the soul s ascent to the intelligible,
a quote from Plato s The Republic: VII Allegory of the Cave; his philosophy of stages of
knowledge to turn the soul to right desires; resonating with Roark s path, showing that what s more
important is keeping your morals and self virtue, growing your knowledge higher. By the demise
of Peter Keating, Roark s path to success, and Ayn Rands portrayal of society in Fountainhead,
Howard Roark has the true success. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, people started in the dirt and

Grade Level Observation
There time is scheduled based on the student grade levels. Since there is a teacher and two aides
in this classroom, each teacher is assigned a grade level lunch hour. For example, Mrs. Whaley
and I both have lunch during the 3rd grade lunch hour, Mrs. Jordan has lunch during the fourth
grade lunch hour and Mrs. Beaver has lunch during the fifth grade lunch hour. Both of the aides
are also assigned to a lunch duty. They are to supervise the playground during recess. Recess
duty is the only time of the day the aides spend time with genera education students. Both Mrs.
Beaver and Mrs. Jordan had different schedule. Mrs. Beaver comes in at around ten o clock while
Mrs. Jordan is at school early so that she can be at breakfast duty. Since Mrs.... Show more content

Although the teacher and aides are assigned a grade level, the groups they are with rotate so

provides math instruction for every grade level (at different times in the afternoon), while Mrs.
Beaver and Mrs. Jordan provide additional math help. For example, Mrs. Jordan is able to sit in
during 3rd grade math instruction, but once the 3rd graders are done they go to a different table
to work on accelerated math with Mrs. Beaver and Mrs. Jordan goes to a different table to
provide students with math one on one. Often times, Mrs. Jordan works with individuals to
improve their math fact fluency. I was not surprised to know that the aides do not leave the
resource room at all throughout the day. Unless it is a Jr. Achievement Day, the aides are to
remain in the room with the students at all times. For a Jr. Achievement Day, the students we have
in the resource room are able to spend the entire day with their peers learning about business and
economics. During this time the aides and teachers are going from room to room to check up on
the students and make sure they are understanding and able to do the material they are being

Rock Band Characteristics
When I was 15, my parents bought me a record player for Christmas to utilize for some vinyl I
had purchased at local record shows or shops. When they bought me the player, my taste in music
had shifted more towards rock than anything else, so I was really excited to listen to some
records on it. I remember the first time I dropped the needle on the record and music started
playing, and I instantly fell in love. I didn t think there would be a huge difference between the
sound of vinyl and anything else, but it was like speaking to someone in real life instead of over
FaceTime. Now that I was listening to vinyl more, I needed good bands to listen to, and I
noticed certain things about some bands in particular while listening. Good rock bands all share
some common characteristics. First, rock bands require a high level of skill to be considered
great. Led Zeppelin, for instance, had four all star musicians who shared amazing chemistry to
produce very complex music. Many others would claim that each one of the members is one of
the best at what they do which makes them one of the best bands ever. Next, The Who were also
very skilled with one of the best rhythm sections (bass guitar and drums) in a rock band ever. This
drove their music forward from the back, meaning insane guitar parts or masterful vocal work
weren t common practice for the already spectacular band. Lastly, The Eagles displayed their talents
through singing, which every member of the group could contribute while

Essay on Holden in The Catcher in The Rye
The author has put in plenty of themes, messages, ideas, issues, and motifs. The character,
Holden Caulfield is alienated from society, is experiencing the painfulness of growing up, thinks
that the adult world is full of phoniness, and is sick of hearing about the American Dream from
his teachers. JD Salinger has created a book that has raised plenty of questions and controversy
towards the readers. The Catcher in the Rye shows how a teenage mind works. JD Salinger has
used a stream of consciousness writing style where the character (Holden Caulfield) talks in first
person as he presents his thoughts and feelings to the readers. The setting has taken place in the
early fifties and the book uses a lot of profane words. The New York... Show more content on

That s all I do all day. I d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only
thing I d really like to be.
As Holden enters the Museum of National History, his fears change into difficulty. He likes
everything easily understandable. He is afraid to admit fear but only admits it in a few instances
such as Sex is something I just don t understand. I swear to God I don t. Instead of facing
adulthood, he traps himself in his own little childhood world thinking about his dream job, catching
little kids that are about to fall off a rye cliff.
Caulfield s loneliness is probably one of the main motifs all throughout the novel. I felt like
jumping out the window. I probably would ve, too, if I d been sure somebody d cover me up as
soon as I landed. I didn t want a bunch of stupid rubbernecks looking at me when I was all gory.
As he narrates his time in New York, it shows the readers how he looks for someone that
understands him. In some ways, it shows that it is his source of pain and his security.
Relationships, intimacy, and sexuality are some of the things he fears the most from the adult
world. Sex is something I really don t understand too hot. You never know where the hell you are.
I keep making up these sex rules for myself, and then I break them right away. Last year I

Wal Mart s Social Responsibility And Consumer Purchasing...
Introduction:
In a fiercely competitive economy, good social reputations are companies biggest asset. Copious
recent research established direct correlations between companies social responsibility and
consumer purchasing behaviours.
As consumers have more substitution options, it is easier to boycott unethical companies. In the
recent decade, Wal Mart has been entangled in a series of legal and ethical battle around the
world. Hiring illegal immigrant worker , refusing to pay overtime fee , discriminating against
female worker , and dumping hazardous waste into community are just a few negative publicities
Wal Mart had acquired within the last five years. It is estimated that Wal Mart receives an average
of 1607 lawsuits annually. However, despite constant criticisms that would otherwise bankrupt a
company, Wal Mart s revenue is steadily increasing at an astonishing 7.13 billion USD annually ,
making it the top company in the world by sales revenue . This begs the question: What shields
Wal Mart from storms of criticisms that would otherwise cripple a business?
Wal Mart could not achieve its record revenues without its customers. Since marketing has the most
direct influence on customers, this essay will investigate within the context of the marketing topic
of the Business and Management syllabus. The question To what extent are Wal Mart s price and
product effective in counteracting the impacts of negative publicity? will be explored. Although

Social Issues In Social Work
Many problems remain in the American society such as the increasing number of people living in
poverty, the juvenile crime rate, unaffordable housing for the working middle class and poor
people, backlash against illegal immigration, and the shortfall in social welfare programs (black).
Social workers try to combat these problems, which are a result of society, economics, and
development problems. Social workin the United States is a profession about promoting and
offering social services through practicing with people, communities, and organizations;
advocating with and for clients; and creating social work knowledge (Writing in social work).
Social work in the United States utilized the direct practice with individuals, families, and
communities. Social workers need to continue to advocate for social problems (Writing in social
work).
During poor law times, society aimed to exclude and discriminate against those who don t belong
(red). This trend has continued through today, as the exclusion of people still exists. The legacy
of workhouses and of the Poor Law remains today in the ideology that the family should be the
main provider of care for those in need, poor people should be deterred from seeking help, and
public assistance should be below the minimum wage (red).
In the 19th century, Rescue organizations emerged to prevent child cruelty (red). These
organizations were a voluntary effort with the task of investigating and bringing justice to child

What Does Death Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death
Jesus Ponce De Leon English 090A Mr.Howard October 30, 2015 The Masque Of The Red
Death Edgar Allen Poe s short story The Masque of the Red Death takes place in an unspecified
land at some time in the past when, from their great castles, Lords and Princes held dominion
over the common people. A plague had devastated the world and the only refuge there is, is in a
luxury castle with safety beyond the walls, and welded doors where nothing can come in and
nothing can go out. Prince Prospero is the host of this whole plan. Prince Prospero s plan is to
await the end of this whole plague. The plague is called the Red Death, this plague came with harsh
and gruesome symptoms, whipping almost all population infront of it. The harsh and gruesome
symptoms overcame victims with sharp pains, sudden dizziness, and hematidrosis. Poe uses

We might interpretit as window into Poe s dark and tortured soul as a man with psychological

escape death and if you run away, it will come for you sooner or later. The guests thought that,
being in a refuge with nothing coming in or out, they would be safer; however, it turns out that
the Red Death came after them and hunted them down. The clock symbolizes time of their
death, as if the time for their death came closer each time. It seems like the higher social classes
always have a bigger chance of surviving because of the easy access to resources. However, the
higher class always seems to go down faster. The color of rooms also come in play to all this as

Essay On King Kamehameha
Effective Leader Essay Hawaii is now known as a tropical paradise, but it wasn t always so
simple. Thousands of years ago the islands were constantly fought over. Until one day,
Kamehameha the Great conquered all of the islands becoming Hawaii s first king. As Hawaii s
first king, Kamehameha led his own path. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was
intelligent, was an effective communicator, and adapted to new ideas. One reason why
Kamehameha was a good leader was because he was intelligent in a way that others weren t. As
sandalwood grew in popularity Kamehameha knew he had to preserve the sandalwood trees for
future generations. This led Kamehameha to place a kapu on the young sandalwood trees, so they
would be saved for the future. This was one of the many new changes Kamehameha made to the
islands. Placing a kapu on the trees was a beneficial change because not... Show more content on

Kamehameha traveled overseas to sell sandalwood, but soon learned he could not make a profit
due to port fees. Then all of the sudden Kamehameha decided to take the idea of port fees back to

port fees, the Hawaiian s made profits that benefited their communities. The port fees proved to be
extremely useful due to the fact that dozens of ships docked at Hawaii as a stopover.
Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent, he was an effective
communicator, and he adapted to new ideas. Throughout his rule, Kamehameha was able to
achieve a profitable business, a beautiful island, and a kapu to help future generations prosper.
Therefore he was respected, wealthy, and powerful. Kamehameha was able to bring peace to

The Vietnam War began in December in 1956 and ended in April 1975. Initially the war was
between North Vietnam and South Vietnam but they both formed allies. North Vietnam s allies
were the Soviet Union, China, and other communist allies, while South Vietnam s allies were anti
communist countries like the United States. The United States entered the war and sought the help
of the South Vietnamese army (ARVN). Despite the US collaborating with the ARVNs, the ARVNs

David Mar in the, Vietnam 1945 The Quest for Power, explained how significant this year was for
the Vietnamese, while the French, Japanese, Chinese, British, and Americans fought for control
over Indochina. The Vietnamese quickly discovered they could publish, organize, and demonstrate
in favor of a national independence, as long as they did not hinder Japanese defense preparations.
As a result of the multiple countries trying to gain control of Vietnam, Vietnam went from a
colonial state, a royal government to a democratic republic. By the end of 1945, these political
convolutions finally became things of the past. For eighty years, the French worked to seemingly
transform Vietnam into a Paris replica, calling it Indochina and taking advantage of all its peoples
and resources. Ho Chi Minh declared himself president on September 2 and announced the
Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Marr, 1997). Once Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam s
Declaration of Independence, he called on the allies to recognize the Vietnamese people s rights to
independence and to be a liberated country. However, not long after Vietnam gained their
independence did the United States declare war. Although Vietnam was able to withstand a
thousand years of Chinese ruling, they suffered enormously during the Vietnam War. However, one
has to question who won or lost the Vietnam War. This question has plagued many Americans and
other people. Despite who won or lost the war and whether the Vietnam

Raoul Hausmann s Influence In Three Selected Art Works
The following are three selected art works demonstrate this influence.
In the photomontage Der Kunstkritiker or The Art Critic (1919 20) Raoul Hausmann distorts and

Hausmann was an Austrian artist who adhered to strict expressionistic styles until introduced to
Dadaism, an unrealistic artistic and literary movement of many different mediums occurring from
1916 to 1924. Hausmann became one of the founding members of Dada in Berlin; a style which

Flannery O Connor s A Good Man
Flannery O Connor has written multiple books about the two topics she knows best, southern living
and the Catholic religion. Most of her writings focus on humanity s biggest question. What is
required to attain salvation? Growing up as a devout Roman Catholic, O Connor is able to shed
some light into a question that even scholars in the Christian faith are unable to answer. Although O
Connor has multiple books, the one that answers the many questions surrounding salvation best, is
A Good Man is Hard to Find. Throughout A Good Man is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor
provides her readers with multiple allegories that allude to her belief that humans are nothing more
than fallen, depraved creatures capable of redemption and salvation. In the beginning of the story, O
Connor introduces a somewhat typical familypreparing for vacation with their grandmother.
During their preparation, the family illustrates just how disjointed and manipulative they truly

The Civil War And Emancipation
The Civil War, at first, was about slavery; however, the meaning of the war began to change, and
it began to be associated with healing. There were actually two main visions of the Civil War, and
Blight calls these twin goals and competing interests. One was to deal with the negative impacts,
which brought about a sense of healing. The second was regarding the emancipation of slaves. One
vision was about healing, while the other was about justice, and Blight notes this in the prologue
and states, Americans faced an overwhelming task after the Civil War and emancipation: how to
understand the tangled relationship between two profound ideas healing and justice (Blight,
Prologue, page 3). In addition, in part two of Blight s video... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He states, We never found an adequate way in this society to put healing and justice in a historical
balance (Blight, online resource). Only one had to win over the other, and the winner was healing.
He also says the same in Chapter 1; he concludes, But the new nation awaiting rebirth also had the
thought of black equality on one side, the knowledge of sectional reunion on the other side, and no
muse yet in the middle holding their hands (Blight, Chapter 1, page 30). Again, Blight s argument
is that it probably never even was possible for there to exist a balance between healing and justice.
Blight states in the prologue, Defeated white southerners and black former slaves faced each other
on the ground, seeing and knowing the awful chasm between their experiences, unaware that any
path would lead to their reconciliation (Blight, Prologue, page 3). The sacrificing of racial justice
was an inevitable cost of attempts to reconcile between the north and the south. An example of that
from Chapter 22 in Bailey is the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous whites disliked the success that blacks
were experiencing, so they formed the Ku Klux Klan. Members of the society instilled fear into
blacks in order to prevent them from voting. They used extreme violence, which, by the 1890s, led
to nearly the disenfranchisement of all blacks. Basically, because attempts to forge reconciliation

Human Rights Universal List
Human rights, by definition, are rights which are inherent to every human being, regardless of their
personal identity. This concept of human rights is ideal in theory, but often causes debate among
people and groups who define which rights are inherent differently. In order to alleviate this debate,
several countries represented in the United Nations defined a universal list of human rights. The list
includes concepts of equality, prohibition of slavery, and prohibition of discrimination. However,
the debate of what qualifies as a human right is often still present in legal actions between separate
nations or groups, regardless of the universal list, such as in the case of the Santa Clara Pueblo v
Martinez. This case was brought to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two writers, Felipe Gomez Isa and Tim Murithi, reflect on this topic and claim that, ironic to its
purpose, the drafting of the universal list of human rights was not inclusive to all nations or
indigenous groups. Western societies, such as the United States, and those similar to them were
dominant in the drafting process, creating a list of human rights which accurately reflected the
beliefs of their societies, but not the beliefs of minority nations which had either less of a role or
no role in the drafting. Under this absence of representation for every group or nation, the universal
list has proven to be impossible to accept within societies different from Western culture, such as in
the case of the Santa Clara Pueblo. The Native Americans were considered to be a group excluded
from the human rights draft, and therefore, they did not adopt this list of human rights into their
society. Without their own input, the list did not represent their cultural or moral beliefs, but rather
the beliefs of the more powerful societies which created them. In effect, it would be wrong for the
United States court system to force their view of human rights onto the Native Americans who
haven t accepted the universal list as their

Why Gambling Is The Modern Day Gambling

Riverboat Gambling
The crisp slicing of cards, shimmering dresses, sharp suits, dealers shouting, clouds of smoke from
cigarettes, and coins spitting out from glowing slot machines is the modern day gambling that we
know today. Thinking of gambling in America has always brought attention to prospering cities like
Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Gambling unfortunately has created a dark subculture that surrounds
gaming such as: crime, prostitution, and loansharking. An evolution of security and the
disappearance of the mob have made gaming safer for the family since the mid 19th century. These
two cities have defined what society knows of gambling in America. They draw million of tourist

Although the financial backers of the colonies saw gambling as a source of the colonial problems,
they began to see it as a solution as well. Once the lottery exposed its untapped potential profits it
soon became a civic responsibility. This new resource became heavily relied upon and brought good
reciprocity to the community. During colonial period, before the American Revolution, the lottery
was used to back some of the most prestigious universities such as: Harvard, Yale, Columbia,
Dartmouth, and Princeton, it also was used to build churches, and libraries (Truitt, 1996). After the
revolution the frontier lifestyle began to take full effect. With Americans having a spiritual drive to
move west and make their fortunes, gambling shared similar foundations: a spirit of adventure,
opportunity, and risk taking. Riverboat gambling was soon to take form after this introduction to
gambling in early colonial times.
The first appearance of riverboat gambling began in the early 1800 s. The lower Mississippi Valley
became a legitimate and organized enterprise. The Mississippi River and connected waterways were
major avenues of trade and farmers and merchants and the riverboats carried passengers who had
lots of cash (Clotfelter Cook). This line of travel consistently transported merchants and farmers
leaving them vulnerable to the temptation taking risks with their newfound money.
The golden age for riverboat gambling occurred during 1840 1860. During

Analysis Of Primo Levi s Book Survival In Auschwitz
Primo Levi describes in his book, Survival in Auschwitz, the horrors inflicted upon the prisoners
contained within Auschwitz and their struggle to remain themselves and to survive within the
camp. The sign placed at the entrance of Auschwitz read the words, Arbeit Macht Frei , or Work
Gives Freedom , an ironic statement considering the Nazis took everything away from these
individuals that constitutes established human rights and freedom. Without the elements that make
up a human being, there was limited freedom for the prisoners. What are the possible meanings of
Arbeit Macht Frei, and could the prisoners obtain any freedom ? While the freedoms of the
prisoners were limited in Auschwitz, Primo Levi shows in his book, Survival in Auschwitz , that
the prisoners could gain a sense of freedom through hope of release, death, or mental suppression.
First, it would be very helpful to this paper to describe the ways that Nazis deprived the individuals
in the concentration camp of their freedom. The Nazis main goal was to completely exterminate the
Jews, and if one was a Jew, the Nazis discriminated against them and either transported the Jews to a
concentration camp or to a crematorium. Upon transportation, the Nazis ripped everything away
from the individuals that made them human loved ones, food, hair, personal belongings, clothing,
shoes, security, full bellies, rested bodies, hopeful thoughts, compassion, privacy, humanity,

Explain How The President Protects The Common Good President
The job of a president is a very stressful and time consuming. Contrary to many Americans belief,
the President has many different roles they are supposed to fill. Some Presidents have completed
this task more successfully than others. There are seven basic categories that everything the
President does fit into. The Presidentuses these roles to protect the common good. Three ways the
President protects the common good are by acting as the legislative leader, the commander in chief,
and the economic leader.
The first way the President protects the common good is by acting as the legislative leader. As the
legislative leader, the President works with Congress by suggesting laws and choosing to pass or
veto bills. Lyndon B. Johnson made great strides in 1964 attacking racial discrimination. He worked
with Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act and then the next year, passing the Voting Rights Act. He
also included measures to strengthen education, prevent crime, and reduce air and water pollution.

about choosing the ablest commanders. One way he proved himself was by ordering a fleet of
Union ships to Fort Sumter, giving the Union their first victory over the Confederate States. Even
though Lincoln suspended some civil liberties during the war, including habeas corpus, they were
necessary to win the war and were done in the best interest for the country as a

Analysis Of Geert Hofstede s Cultural Theory
Culture influences our expectations of what is appropriate or inappropriate and also learned and
reflects the values of a society. It frames our experiences and provides us with patterns of
behavior, thinking, feeling, and interacting. In summary, culture affects every prospect of daily
life how we think and feel, how we learn and teach, or what we consider to be beautiful or cross
grained. However, most people are unaware of their own culture until they experience another. In
fact, we don t regularly suppose about our culture until somebody violates a culturally supported

information on IBM s national auxiliaries, Hofstede had the capacity measurably recognized
social contrasts between nations. 1. Power/Distance (PD) This refers to the degree of inequality
that exists and is accepted among people with and without power. A high PD score indicates that
society accepts an unequal distribution of power, and that people understand their place in the
system. Low PD means that power is shared and well dispersed. It also means that society
members view themselves as equals. 2. Individualism (IDV) This alludes to the quality of the
binds individuals need to others inside the group. A high IDV score shows detached
associations. In nations with a high IDV score there is an absence of interpersonal association
and small imparting of obligations past family and maybe a couple of close companions. A
general public with a low IDV score would have solid gathering union and there would be a lot
of dependability and appreciation for parts of the gathering. The gathering itself is additionally
bigger and individuals assume more liability for one another s well being. 3. Masculinity (MAS)

origin of a stressed filled environment that is prompted by anxiety and depression. In response,
individuals have become escapist in order to find an outlet to achieve mental and emotional stability

in order to escape their misfortune. The purpose of committing suicide is to seek for a solution,
to those individuals suicide is the only answer to an otherwise unsolvable problem (Survivors of
Suicide). By ending their lives these individuals hope to escape the burden of responsibilities

for a permanent solution like suicide often suffer from depression after they have repressed their
emotions for long periods of time. Suicide has become the third leading cause of death amongst
young individuals. Suicide methods may differ depending on the gender. Woman are commonly

The internet that so many of us have come to depend on is a vast trove of information that is

The Debate Of The Drinking Age
The drinking age has always been twenty one in the United States, whenever it has been
questioned on why twenty one and not eighteen. The scientific answer has always been because
the eighteen year old brain is not fully developed yet. See what I have a hard time understanding
is why eighteen year olds are considered adults at the age of eighteen, but we can t have a drink.
At eighteen you are allowed to buy cigarettes, join the army, change your name. I just don t
understand why at eighteen you are considered old enough to fight for the country, but you can t
just have a drink. I also do not quite understand why we haven t moved the age of becoming a
legal adult to twenty one. Back in 1984 the government wanted to get a firm grasp on the country
and wanted to knock them into line. So they made a deal with all the states that simply stated.
Either make the minimum drinking age twenty one or lose up to 10% of the federal highway
funding. Now that s some serious cash, so of course all the states went along with it and that is
how the minimum drinking age came into play. The federal government did not just pick the
number twenty one out of a hat. Twenty one came from the early English century. That was the
age you could vote or become a knight back in that day. Since they became an adult then it only
makes sense that they can drink. ( Why Is the Drinking Age 21? ). Which goes back to my first
point, why are eighteen year olds considered adults at eighteen, but cannot drink?

This would make expansion in Africa more difficult than in India. The biggest advantage which
HCG has is the scalable and adaptable Hub and Spoke model, central procurement lowering the
drug prices in Africa, and setting the medical technology standards in Africa. Though its learning
curve in care would be lower, the learning curve in establishing facilities would be much higher.
There are several other emerging markets which HCG can consider for expansion Sri Lanka,
Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh. These markets are closer to India and are more similar in
demography and temperament to India.
The biggest advantage of investing in Africa is the early mover advantage and low competition.
This creates a very good opportunity for HCG. HCG has expanded in India to cover major
regions though there is still huge scope of expansion. There is also competition by other players
who are increasing their presence in this domain. Thus expanding into Africa seems like a good
strategy. It could expand the revenue base for HCG by a large extent. A larger revenue base
would help the chain to expand in the longer term by giving it access to higher resources and
cash. This would also help it subsidise the treatment of the poor in rural parts of India where HCG
penetration is still low. Thus HCG should expand in Africa and continue its expansion in India also.

The Role of Serotonin in Schizophrenia
SchizophreniaВґs Cognitive symptoms include troubles with focusing or paying attention, using
information immediately after learning it, understanding information and using it to make
decisions (Meltzer, The Role of Serotonin in Schizophrenia, 2000).
Many areas of the brain, along with chemicals are affected in a schizophrenic patient. The structure
along with the function of the brain would be abnormal in comparison to a healthy functioning
brain. The causes of many symptoms contributing to schizophrenia are still unsure of, and are
instead hypothesised.
Schizophrenic patients are thought to have higher dopamine levels in their brains (overactive
dopamine system). Many antipsychotics are designed to block dopamine receptors, and bind them,
helping patients to improve and experience less severe symptoms, further proving the dopamine
hypothesis. It was also found that drugs that increase dopamine levels (amphetamines) have caused
more psychotics symptoms. This could partially result in a few psychotic symptoms occurring in
the illness (GROMISCH, 2013).
Research shows that there is a correlation between creative and dopamine receptor bindings in the
thalamus (PHD, 2012). The thalamus relays and processes information such as visual and auditory
information. It was found that both creative minds and schizophrenics minds have lower dopamine
receptors, this could result in why schizophrenics have abnormal thought processes and why some
normal functioning brains tend to be

A Brief Note On Maple Syrup
One thing Canada is known for is their maple syrup. Canada s maple syrup has always been a
part of the culture. From being taught how to harvest sap from the immense amount of maple
trees, boil it and turn it into one of Canada s main foods, Canadian maple syrup has always been in
demand. To produce one gallon of maple syrup, on average, 40 gallons of sap is needed. In 2007,
6.7 million pounds of maple syrup were exported to the United States alone, so a lot of
resources, in this case, trees, are needed.[Pure Canada Maple] Maple syrup can be used for many
things, although it is often paired with pancakes, waffles, or French toast, it is also used to top
oatmeal or porridge. Other uses of maple syrup are ingredients in baking and as a flavouring
agent. Canada produces 71 percent of the world pure maple syrup, this percentage however
continues to increase. Out of that percentage, 91 percent is produced in the province of Quebec.
Although Quebec produces most of Canada s maple syrup, Ontario, New Brunswick, P.E.I and
Nova Scotia produce maple syrup as well.[ibid] With more than 8600 maple syrup businesses in
Canada, the infamous Canadian maple syrup is exported to around 50 countries.[ibid] From when
the Algonquians found syrup and used simple tools to extract sap from maple trees, until now, the
process has not changed much. An important note is that not many regions have the natural
resources of maple trees, to be able to produce the product themselves. Canada, however,

Throughout The Oresteia, the themes of justice and revenge are often used as reasoning for certain
events that take place. In many instances, the characters refer to certain events as revenge, while
others see them as justice. For example, Clytemnestra kills her wife in pursuit of justice, and can be

as just in his eyes, but in reality, is revenge. In The Oresteia, revenge, often portrayed as a selfish

What Is Ole Bull s Influence In American Culture
When Norway became independent in 1814, Danish influence was very prevalent. Norway did
not have its own literature, music or arts. Copenhagen was the center of Scandinavian culture;
Norway merely a country cousin. The violinist Ole Bull helped change this. From Egypt to Italy
to the United States, he traveled throughout the world, giving concerts and carrying abroad pride
for his native land. As BjГёrnstjerne BjГёrnson spoke at his grave in 1880: Ole Bull became the
first and the greatest festival in this people s life: he gave us self respect, the greatest gift possible
at the time...
In 1815, at the age of five, Ole Bull s uncle gave him a little violin. He had already shown a love for
music and singing and astonished his uncle by playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite promises to his father that he would concentrate on his studies, Ole found that music was
more rewarding than studies. He performed with the Oslo orchestra and totally failed his
examinations.
Ole left Norway to begin a serious study of music. After unfulfilling periods in Germany and Paris
he went to Italy where he met with great success. The enthusiasm of the Italians inspired him and
he returned to Paris, where he was invited to appear as a solo performer with the Paris Opera
House one of the most distinguished opera houses of the world. From there he toured Europe and
also the United States.
Wherever he went, he brought with him an air of celebration. His playing was full of energy,
charm, and emotion and he loved to astonish the audience with showy effects, moving his bow
with lighting swiftness and playing all four strings at the same time. He was a great virtuoso and
was said to be the equal of the legendary Italian violinist, Paganini. In addition to being a dazzling
performer, he was also probably the best looking man on any stage at that time. This, combined
with a colorful personality and a strong sense of drama, made him a formidable performer and a

Pursuing A Career In Theatre Education
Hey there, everyone! As the Christmas season comes to a close, I thought it was time for me to do
another post about theatre education. Earlier in the year, I did a few posts on education, including a
quiz about what theatre major to choose in college, out of state schools for theatre, and why it is
important to participate in youth theatre.
Today, I wanted to do a post about the diverse theatre personnel. A lot of time when people think
about theatre, their minds immediately jump to actors, director, producers, costume designers, etc.
Obviously, those jobs are extremely important, but there are other jobs in theatre are essential to the
creation of a successful show.
Today, we will be focusing on pre production. Next week will be production... Show more content

However, make up design like costume design is very specific and although degree programs don
t really exist for it, technical programs do, so training in one of these stage makeup programs
although not necessarily required is incredibly useful.
Actor/actress portrays the characters created by the playwright. Interprets the role, keeping true to
the vision of the director.
Many colleges offer BFAs in Acting, but a large percentage of general Theatre BAs have acting
concentrations as well.
It is important for actors to understand the technical positions as well.
Thank you for reading and learning! Tune in next week for a list of theatre jobs directly involved
in show time!

Essay On Wells Kicago
Finally! I shouted in glee. My computer finally has access to the personal computer of the
Senior Vice President IT of Wells Fargo. I started to edit the SQL database which relates account
numbers to routing numbers. Then, I switched my account number to the routing number of the
CEO of Wells Fargo (for an added twist in the plot). Now, money should be coming straight in.
Within 24 hours, the CEO s monthly paycheck of $833,333, and other sums of money came
straight into my bank account. I walked to my local Wells Fargo, and withdrew all that...in cash. I
closed my bank account, walked back to my hotel, checked out, and left Chicago for
Charlottesville, Virginia. As I piled all of my stuff, a piercing noise filled my ears. At first, I

I don t know, but we better get to our battle stations. I replied. We headed up the stairs to the roof
and got to our computers. I checked the system status, and it seems that the US took out our main
electrical grid, and is about to crack our backup battery. Don t you hate defense? Andre said.
Yeah, but it is the most important part. Get back to work. I retorted. I opened my terminal
application and and applied a secondary security measure to the backup battery. This should hold
them out for a few minutes. Now, I should wait until offense shuts down their electrical grid. All of
a sudden, my computer monitor shut off. A few seconds later, the lights went out for a second
time. The backup battery failed. There was a sense of panic in the room. Everything froze and
became quiet for a golden three seconds. Then, chaos started. People started to run for the door.
Explosions. Twenty people lie on the floor. I spotted an opening in the rubble about one foot in
diameter. It s a little small, but it will have to do. It s now or never I thought. Come on Andre, let

has always been next to my desk. The picture of two elderly figures on the top right of the desk. A

The Relational Model For Data Storage
Abstract
The relational model, which uses predefined tabular relations to store data, has remained the
preeminent model for data storage since it was first implemented in the early 1980s. However, due
to the proliferation of the Internet, today data flows in and out of organizations quickly, and most
of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed for communication over http. It is difficult
to fit this complex data into a flat two dimensional array. For that reason, it is imperative that
companies have the ability to store data in a semi structured format compatible with modern
network communications as well as various platforms and devices. The market has realized this and
responded with document stores that support formats, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the proliferation of the Internet in the late twentieth century has changed the database
landscape rapidly and drastically.
Today, interconnected networks around the globe stream data to a profusion of devices that range
from powerful mainframe supercomputers, and massive grids of commodity machines to
smartphones and tiny single board computers embedded in home appliances. Most of the flow of
data is done through the Internet or over other large TCP/IP networks that utilize HTTP
communications. For that reason, most of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed not
for storage in a relational database, but for communication over HTTP. This data often arrives and
leaves in a voluminous stream. It is therefore difficult for organizations to convert the data quickly
to and from a format that is conforms to the rigid tabular structure of a relational schema.
Support for semi structured data is integral to the collection and storage of data in the Internet age.
While the relational model is sill a good long term storage solution, organizations must be able to
store and query semi structured data that is in a format compatible with HTTP communication
because almost all modern devices use this medium of communication. While XML can serve as a
solution to this problem, JSON, a condensed format that is based on the well known JavaScript
language, has many benefits over XML which I will

The Fda And The Usda Deems It Safe For Beef Manufacturers
The FDA and the USDA deem it safe for beef manufacturers to use ammonia in their meat filler. In
fact 70% of meat filler contains ammonia (Avila, 70 Percent of Ground Beef at Supermarkets

actually makes up the meat they are consuming. Because the hamburgeris such a staple in many
American s diets it didn t take long for someone to develop a cheap solution to produce more
burger product for consumers, and to make a greater profit. Beef Products Inc. in South Dakota
after lots of testing came up with the solution of injecting low grade beef with ammoniaand creating
a cheaper product by using fatty trimmings that were sold for pet food (Avila, 70... Show more

Ammonia: Beef or Pink Slime?
By: Sara Beth Wilken
In 1984, the humorous advertising slogan for Wendy s fast food chain, Where s the beef? became
very popular and was meant to show their beef patties were much larger when compared to other
fast food burger establishments (Reno Gazette). The pictures of their patties were obviously bigger,
but we all missed the most important question. What is in the beef patties?
Americans consume approximately 5 billion hamburgers each year which equates to roughly 1.2
billion pounds of meat (Reno gazette). Most consumers assume that the hamburger they eat is
composed primarily of meat. However, Fast Food Burgers: What are we really eating? Published
a recent study that analyzed eight different brands of fast food hamburgers revealing a different
truth (Reno gazette). The answer of what our burgers are made of is mostly water. The amount of
water in these burgers was as much as 37 64 percent which is something most likely all consumers
would never consider (Reno gazette). This raises the question; how much actual beef are the
burgers we consume made of? Surprisingly, the meat content was as low as 2 to 15 percent in

Cause Of Childhood Obesity
Introduction The Surgeon General s Office, First Lady Obama, and many other prominent
officials have called to action campaigns to address obesity as public health issue which leads to
many other chronic care issues. Childhood obesity has reached epidemic levels in developed
countries. Twenty five percent of children in the US are overweightand 11% are obese. Overweight
and obesity in childhood are known to have significant impact on both physical and psychological
health. The mechanism of obesity development is not fully understood and it is believed to be a
disorder with multiple causes. Environmental factors, lifestyle preferences, and cultural
environment play pivotal roles in the rising prevalence of obesity worldwide. Childhood obesity
now affects 1 in 6 children and adolescents in the United States (CDC, 2015). In 2011 2012, (Ogen,

Fara Alternate Ending
Fara cracked one eye, and was blinded momentarily by white light. When her vision cleared and
adjusted, she opened the other and viewed her surroundings. She was in a hallway, just along a
baby blue wall; nurses and doctors with stethoscopes around their necks hurried about, ignoring
them. Leaning up, she looked for Xhaiden, and was relieved to see him in a stretcher just in front
of her. Their backpacks were at their feet, untouched.
His wounds were cleaned up, but blood still found a way through his abraded skin. She observed
her own hands, touching her forehead. Her own injuries were the same as that of his. Puzzled, she
asked the nearest nurse a simple question concerning them, who was a tall woman with long,

She found ink pens to be more resourceful than her knife; and besides, they would need another
thing to protect themselves with, in case the knife had been taken from them or went missing. She
sped to the dry food, taking as much as she could that would fit in their backpacks, along with four
water bottles. Nearly dropping the groceries, she shuffled to the checkout counter, dropping them
clumsily on the smooth conveyor belt.
The cashier, a young teen, appeared exhausted. She looked longingly at a clock above the entrance,
which read 3:14. Fara was shocked at the time, but relieved somewhat; they could use the rest of the
night to catch up on the sleep that they desperately needed, much more than food, water, and pens.
The working teenager swiped the supplies over a scanner, and she reached into her backpack
pocket to take out the money. The cash register rang up a total of forty seven and three eighths
keys; Fara begrudgingly complied to pay the amount of exchange. The cashier packed her things
neatly into a plastic bag, and she handed it to her without saying a word.
She calmly walked out of the store, and strode to Xhaiden, who was clutching the gauze, and
immediately took his hand off when he saw her, embarrassed. Thank you, he said

issues I suggest that the doctors get educated with the ICD/CPT codes and get educated on the new
LCD policies. The coders themselves need to keep updated with any changes that were made in

Analysis Of Daddy By Sylvia Plath
Daddy by Sylvia Plath is a poem that explores the persona of a 40 year old woman whose father
died when she was 10. Despite the fact that Plath denied that it was in anyway autobiographical, the
reader cannot fail to notice the similarities between the life of the persona and Plath. Throughout
the poem we are faced which a strain of imagery; imagery which shows the personas extreme anger
through connotations to being in a concentration camp:
Chuffing me off like a Jew. A Jew to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen
Here we see that the speaker feels persecuted by the memory of her father just as the Jews were
persecuted under the Nazi state. The connotations of chuffing conveys that she feels that when her
father died he almost gave her no time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The persona feels trapped in the moment of her father s death, and she feels mentally and physically
unable to move on and grow despite the death occurring 30 years ago:
Black shoe in which I have lived like a foot
The metaphor created here is representative of the pain her father causes for her. The
implications of this have caused her to be crushed, tortured and twisted, as she has been held
captive by the death for since she was 10 years old; this prohibiting her from developing into an
adult. She refers to her father has black shoe which conveys through the word choice of black that
he is evil, but it also has connotations to death. The reader is also shocked to see that she feels her
father has fed off her existence since his death:
For thirty years, poor and white
The contrast between the speaker being white and her father being black suggest that she see s
herself as the polar opposite of him. It also suggests that she has been drained of all life, this is the
introduction to the vampire imagery we see elsewhere in the poem. This imagery makes clear that
her father haunts her with her statements like bit my pretty red heart which has connotations to her
innocence being lost due to his death this is conveyed through the word choice of red which
suggests youthfulness. These lines emit her thought of being fuelled by hatred of her father, thus
she has an intense anger for him and the suffering he

Law: There is a host of constitutional and statutory authority establishing that the Internal

Anger And Forgiveness In The Film Smoke Signals
In the film Smoke Signals written by Sherman Alexie, anger and forgiveness play a major part in
the lives of the Native Americans who live in the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. Forgiving
oneself or forgiving others proves to be a hard battle to conquer. As you view throughout the movie
the changes that take place in each character, think about yourself and what feats you have
overcome with anger and forgiveness. The main characters in the film include Arnold Joseph,
Victor Joseph, Thomas Builds the fire, and Suzy Song. There are multiple areas within the film
where offering forgiveness would hold the key to finding inner peace, the question is do any of
the characters actually reach inner peace? Arnold Joseph battles within his own conscience
throughout the film and it isn t obvious whether he ever forgives himself for what he did. Victor
Joseph goes through life with a lot of anger towards his father, Arnold. He struggles to forgive him
for abandoning him as a child, for his alcoholism, and the physical abuse him and his motherwere
subjected to. Victor also shows anger towards Thomas Builds the fire because of their differing
views of Arnold Joseph. The only one who doesn t express anger and is very forgiving is
Thomas Builds the fire. He of all people has a right to be angry, after all, he has lost the most at
the hands of another, whether on purpose or by accident. But, he goes through life as a happy go
lucky person, an imaginative storyteller, and above all a caring individual to others. Interesting
enough, the character who changes the most as the movie goes on is Victor Joseph. It isn t easy
for him to forgive, but, as he grows as a person and learns the truth about his fathers actions he
eventually finds peace.
The setting for the majority of the movie takes place at the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation in
Idaho, but changes when Thomas and Victor travel together to Arizona later in the movie. The
movie begins on July 4th, 1976 and sets the initial conflict early on. It quickly advances to 1998
when the boys are grown, but, shows excerpts from the past throughout the movie as they
reminisced. The Reservation is portrayed well, showing how Native American societies lived and

Community Policing Defined
Community policing
Community policing is defined as a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which
support the systematic use of partnerships and problem solving techniques, to proactively address
the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and
fear of crime according to the U.S. Department of Justice. (U. S. Department of Justice). In other
words the main goal of community policing is the allocation of various police agencies/staff to
particular areas around the community so they become familiar with its inhabitants and lifestyle.
This style of policing attempts to modify the department through a system called de
bureaucratization and has four major goals to meet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assigning key officers to permanent locations, Chicago officers could gain greater knowledge
of the community problems and how to solve them responsibly. Community policing displays
the basic elements of policing and it has some helped shape recent policing strategies such as
Problem Oriented Policing and Zero Tolerance Policing. The most important obvious difference
from other policing strategies is that it represents a major change in the basic role of a police
officer. Traditionally police officers were used to only fight crime, with community policing it
broaden their role to order maintenance, conflict resolution and social and physical disorders
within the home. Problem oriented policing main focus is based on law, order and fear
problems. Unlike Community policing, POP opts that officers should address particular problems
and develop creative responses to each one. Instead of a crime fighter image officers under the
POP ideology function as problem solvers, planners, and community advocates. POP and
Community Policing are very similar in their police tactics however, the newly accepted Zero
tolerance Policy is very different. It is characterized by interventions that aggressively enforce
criminal/civil laws and that are conducted for the purpose of restoring order to communities. This
theory believes through harsh and aggressive enforcement of laws, crime will cause the community
to be more inclined to care which will

The Use Of Deep Water Cooling In Lake Ontario
To begin with, Deep Lake Water Cooling, or DLWC for short, is an alternate method to air
cooling systems. DLWC is a method that is now used in Toronto. Basically, the concept behind
it is that water that is drawn from Lake Ontario for Toronto s water supply, is now drawn from
deep within it to be used for air conditioning. At the bottom of Lake Ontario, highly dense cold
water can be found. During winter, the water in Lake Ontario drops to cool temperatures, and this
surface water sinks to bottom of the lake when winter passes. Since this cycle continues every
year, chilled water will always be found at the bottom of his lake, allowing for this water to be a
completely renewable energy source. An initial study was conducted in 1981 and report

  • 2. The Power Of Parliament And Parliamentary Sovereignty Prior to the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution the Crown acted outside Parliament, causing there to be a struggle for power between the King, the Courts and the Parliament in the 17th Century. Eventually the Courts and Parliament defeated the power of the King and Parliamentary Sovereignty emerged. Parliamentary sovereignty holds that parliament has absolute sovereignty it is the supreme law maker over all other government institutions. There are no legal limitations on the legislative competence of Parliament and no person is allowed to override or set aside the law of Parliament. R (on the application of Jackson) v AG (2005) shows that the definition of an Act of Parliament differs according to whether it has been passed with consent of House of Commons and Lords or just the House of Commons. The courts have the power to decide if a document is an Act of Parliament. In this case they found that the Parliament Act 1949 and the Hunting Act 2004 were passed under procedure laid down by Parliament Act 1949 and are valid statutes. For Dicey, it was the very keystone of the law of the constitution that Parliament is the sovereign or supreme legislative authority in the state. He defined Parliamentary Sovereignty as The principle of Parliamentary sovereignty means neither more nor less than this, namely, that Parliament has, under the English constitution, the right to make or unmake any law whatever; and, further, that no person or body is recognised by ... • 4. Stereotypes Of Women In Math Essay In the mathematical field there is an obvious differentiation between the amount of males and females in the field. This might raise the question of why that is or if there even is a specific reason, well there is, women are heavily pushed away from mathematical careers due to multiple factors. Although there are not many females in the math field, the ones that are bring different ways of thinking into light which helps the math careers grow and improve. Even though women do have different perspectives and outlooks on things, the way they do math is not very different, but unfortunately when put in pressured situations women seem to underperform compared to when they are in a calm, unpressured environment. They both have different ways of solving math and men most times have the advantage over women due to the heavy impact of stereotypes on women. In the article Knowing is Half the Battle: Teaching Stereotypes Threats as a Means of Improving Women s Math Performance it states that there are many affects that stereotypes have on women that effect their performance including anxiety and other affective and cognitive responses. (John) When stereotypes are put into play, they cause problems and the people cannot perform properly because they start to believe the lies of the stereotypes. One thing from New Trends in Gender and Mathematics Performance: A Meta Analysis writes that women perform better in a setting where there are no stereotypes versus a setting that has stereotypes. (Lindberg) This shows that college student women do not perform well when they are pressured by the stereotypes people say to them, but when put in a place where there are no stereotypes pressuring them they do better in their mathematical performance. Stereotypes are one of the main reasons that females have trouble with competing against males, because they feel that they are not good enough. Redeem your mind from the hockshops of authority. Accept the fact that you are not omniscient...In place of your dream of an omniscient automaton, accept the fact that any knowledge man acquires is acquired by his own will and effort, and that that is his distinction in the universe, that is his nature, his morality, his glory, a quote from Rand s For the New Intellectual that defines one of the topics in Fountainhead; the American Dream. The characters Howard Roark and Peter Keating strive for their dreams, reflecting different sides of the path of success society created of the communal mind, and individuals created of the independent mind. The upward journey and the viewing of the upward world as the soul s ascent to the intelligible, a quote from Plato s The Republic: VII Allegory of the Cave; his philosophy of stages of knowledge to turn the soul to right desires; resonating with Roark s path, showing that what s more important is keeping your morals and self virtue, growing your knowledge higher. By the demise of Peter Keating, Roark s path to success, and Ayn Rands portrayal of society in Fountainhead, Howard Roark has the true success. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, people started in the dirt and oil and I feel that represented the disgraceful desires and temptations of society. For example, Mrs. Whaley and I both have lunch during the 3rd grade lunch hour, Mrs. Jordan has lunch during the fourth grade lunch hour and Mrs. Beaver has lunch during the fifth grade lunch hour. Rock Band Characteristics When I was 15, my parents bought me a record player for Christmas to utilize for some vinyl I had purchased at local record shows or shops. When they bought me the player, my taste in music had shifted more towards rock than anything else, so I was really excited to listen to some records on it. I remember the first time I dropped the needle on the record and music started playing, and I instantly fell in love. I didn t think there would be a huge difference between the sound of vinyl and anything else, but it was like speaking to someone in real life instead of over FaceTime. Now that I was listening to vinyl more, I needed good bands to listen to, and I noticed certain things about some bands in particular while listening. Good rock bands all share some common characteristics. First, rock bands require a high level of skill to be considered great. Led Zeppelin, for instance, had four all star musicians who shared amazing chemistry to produce very complex music. Many others would claim that each one of the members is one of the best at what they do which makes them one of the best bands ever. Next, The Who were also very skilled with one of the best rhythm sections (bass guitar and drums) in a rock band ever. This drove their music forward from the back, meaning insane guitar parts or masterful vocal work weren t common practice for the already spectacular band. Lastly, The Eagles displayed their talents through singing, which every member of the group could contribute while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Issues In Social Work Many problems remain in the American society such as the increasing number of people living in poverty, the juvenile crime rate, unaffordable housing for the working middle class and poor people, backlash against illegal immigration, and the shortfall in social welfare programs (black). One reason why Kamehameha was a good leader was because he was intelligent in a way that others weren t. As sandalwood grew in popularity Kamehameha knew he had to preserve the sandalwood trees for future generations. The United States entered the war and sought the help of the South Vietnamese army (ARVN). David Mar in the, Vietnam 1945 The Quest for Power, explained how significant this year was for the Vietnamese, while the French, Japanese, Chinese, British, and Americans fought for control over Indochina. The Vietnamese quickly discovered they could publish, organize, and demonstrate in favor of a national independence, as long as they did not hinder Japanese defense preparations. As a result of the multiple countries trying to gain control of Vietnam, Vietnam went from a colonial state, a royal government to a democratic republic. By the end of 1945, these political convolutions finally became things of the past. For eighty years, the French worked to seemingly transform Vietnam into a Paris replica, calling it Indochina and taking advantage of all its peoples and resources. Ho Chi Minh declared himself president on September 2 and announced the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Marr, 1997). Once Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam s Declaration of Independence, he called on the allies to recognize the Vietnamese people s rights to independence and to be a liberated country. In the photomontage Der Kunstkritiker or The Art Critic (1919 20) Raoul Hausmann distorts and disproportions the human form through deconstruction to have a simultaneously insulting and humorous effect on his viewers. Hausmann was an Austrian artist who adhered to strict expressionistic styles until introduced to Dadaism, an unrealistic artistic and literary movement of many different mediums occurring from 1916 to 1924. Most of her writings focus on humanity s biggest question. What is required to attain salvation? Growing up as a devout Roman Catholic, O Connor is able to shed some light into a question that even scholars in the Christian faith are unable to answer. Although O Connor has multiple books, the one that answers the many questions surrounding salvation best, is A Good Man is Hard to Find. Throughout A Good Man is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor provides her readers with multiple allegories that allude to her belief that humans are nothing more than fallen, depraved creatures capable of redemption and salvation. In the beginning of the story, O Connor introduces a somewhat typical familypreparing for vacation with their grandmother. During their preparation, the family illustrates just how disjointed and manipulative they truly are. In fact, in an attempt to get her own way, the grandmother tries to scare the family into going to Tennessee with the news of a killer who escaped prison. There were actually two main visions of the Civil War, and Blight calls these twin goals and competing interests. One was to deal with the negative impacts, which brought about a sense of healing. The second was regarding the emancipation of slaves. One vision was about healing, while the other was about justice, and Blight notes this in the prologue and states, Americans faced an overwhelming task after the Civil War and emancipation: how to understand the tangled relationship between two profound ideas healing and justice (Blight, Prologue, page 3). He states, We never found an adequate way in this society to put healing and justice in a historical balance (Blight, online resource). Only one had to win over the other, and the winner was healing. He also says the same in Chapter 1; he concludes, But the new nation awaiting rebirth also had the thought of black equality on one side, the knowledge of sectional reunion on the other side, and no muse yet in the middle holding their hands (Blight, Chapter 1, page 30). Again, Blight s argument is that it probably never even was possible for there to exist a balance between healing and justice. Blight states in the prologue, Defeated white southerners and black former slaves faced each other on the ground, seeing and knowing the awful chasm between their experiences, unaware that any path would lead to their reconciliation (Blight, Prologue, page 3). The sacrificing of racial justice was an inevitable cost of attempts to reconcile between the north and the south. An example of that from Chapter 22 in Bailey is the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous whites disliked the success that blacks were experiencing, so they formed the Ku Klux Klan. Members of the society instilled fear into blacks in order to prevent them from voting. They used extreme violence, which, by the 1890s, led to nearly the disenfranchisement of all blacks. Basically, because attempts to forge reconciliation between the north and the south ... This concept of human rights is ideal in theory, but often causes debate among people and groups who define which rights are inherent differently. In order to alleviate this debate, several countries represented in the United Nations defined a universal list of human rights. The list includes concepts of equality, prohibition of slavery, and prohibition of discrimination. Under this absence of representation for every group or nation, the universal list has proven to be impossible to accept within societies different from Western culture, such as in the case of the Santa Clara Pueblo. The Native Americans were considered to be a group excluded from the human rights draft, and therefore, they did not adopt this list of human rights into their society. Without their own input, the list did not represent their cultural or moral beliefs, but rather the beliefs of the more powerful societies which created them. At eighteen you are allowed to buy cigarettes, join the army, change your name. I also do not quite understand why we haven t moved the age of becoming a legal adult to twenty one. Either make the minimum drinking age twenty one or lose up to 10% of the federal highway funding. Now that s some serious cash, so of course all the states went along with it and that is how the minimum drinking age came into play. Many areas of the brain, along with chemicals are affected in a schizophrenic patient. The structure along with the function of the brain would be abnormal in comparison to a healthy functioning brain. The causes of many symptoms contributing to schizophrenia are still unsure of, and are instead hypothesised. Schizophrenic patients are thought to have higher dopamine levels in their brains (overactive dopamine system). Many antipsychotics are designed to block dopamine receptors, and bind them, helping patients to improve and experience less severe symptoms, further proving the dopamine hypothesis. It was also found that drugs that increase dopamine levels (amphetamines) have caused more psychotics symptoms. This could partially result in a few psychotic symptoms occurring in the illness (GROMISCH, 2013). Research shows that there is a correlation between creative and dopamine receptor bindings in the thalamus (PHD, 2012). The Relational Model For Data Storage Abstract The relational model, which uses predefined tabular relations to store data, has remained the preeminent model for data storage since it was first implemented in the early 1980s. However, due to the proliferation of the Internet, today data flows in and out of organizations quickly, and most of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed for communication over http. It is difficult to fit this complex data into a flat two dimensional array. For that reason, it is imperative that companies have the ability to store data in a semi structured format compatible with modern network communications as well as various platforms and devices. Today, interconnected networks around the globe stream data to a profusion of devices that range from powerful mainframe supercomputers, and massive grids of commodity machines to smartphones and tiny single board computers embedded in home appliances. Most of the flow of data is done through the Internet or over other large TCP/IP networks that utilize HTTP communications. For that reason, most of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed not for storage in a relational database, but for communication over HTTP. This data often arrives and leaves in a voluminous stream. It is therefore difficult for organizations to convert the data quickly to and from a format that is conforms to the rigid tabular structure of a relational schema. Support for semi structured data is integral to the collection and storage of data in the Internet age. While the relational model is sill a good long term storage solution, organizations must be able to store and query semi structured data that is in a format compatible with HTTP communication because almost all modern devices use this medium of communication. She refers to her father has black shoe which conveys through the word choice of black that he is evil, but it also has connotations to death. Anger And Forgiveness In The Film Smoke Signals In the film Smoke Signals written by Sherman Alexie, anger and forgiveness play a major part in the lives of the Native Americans who live in the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. Forgiving oneself or forgiving others proves to be a hard battle to conquer. As you view throughout the movie the changes that take place in each character, think about yourself and what feats you have overcome with anger and forgiveness. The main characters in the film include Arnold Joseph, Victor Joseph, Thomas Builds the fire, and Suzy Song. There are multiple areas within the film where offering forgiveness would hold the key to finding inner peace, the question is do any of the characters actually reach inner peace? Arnold Joseph battles within his own conscience throughout the film and it isn t obvious whether he ever forgives himself for what he did. Victor Joseph goes through life with a lot of anger towards his father, Arnold. He struggles to forgive him for abandoning him as a child, for his alcoholism, and the physical abuse him and his motherwere subjected to. Victor also shows anger towards Thomas Builds the fire because of their differing views of Arnold Joseph. The only one who doesn t express anger and is very forgiving is Thomas Builds the fire. He of all people has a right to be angry, after all, he has lost the most at the hands of another, whether on purpose or by accident. But, he goes through life as a happy go lucky person, an imaginative storyteller, and above all a caring individual to others. Interesting enough, the character who changes the most as the movie goes on is Victor Joseph. It isn t easy for him to forgive, but, as he grows as a person and learns the truth about his fathers actions he eventually finds peace. The setting for the majority of the movie takes place at the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho, but changes when Thomas and Victor travel together to Arizona later in the movie. The movie begins on July 4th, 1976 and sets the initial conflict early on. Traditionally police officers were used to only fight crime, with community policing it broaden their role to order maintenance, conflict resolution and social and physical disorders within the home. Problem oriented policing main focus is based on law, order and fear problems.
