An Indian raid on July 8th 1755 in Drapers Meadows, present-day Blacksburg, Virginia resulted in prisoners being taken, including Bettie Drapper to an Indian village near Chillicothe, Thomas Drapper to Detroit, and Mary Ingles and her baby who were taken to a salt lick near Cincinnati. After being held captive over the summer and fall, Mary Ingles and a Dutch woman escaped together, leaving Mary's baby behind as they had no supplies. They lived off the land and traveled around 500 miles over six weeks to make their journey to safety.
