There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

- 3. First week you MUST • Form yourselves into groups • Upload a list of your groups and weekend choice • Meet and begin to decide your subject
- 4. There are two assessments in this module: There are two assessments in this module: Production two assessments in this module: There are Schedule – Production Schedule – Production Schedule I Individual Role Analysis
- 5. Production Schedule • Working in production groups you should produce a production schedule which acts as a pitch for your planned production. • The pitch should contain clearly identifiable evidence of input by each member of the group • There must also be a folder which contains evidence of planning and research for the project – this may include details of location scouting, provisional design ideas, budgeting etc. This Assessment makes up 50% of the mark for this module
- 6. Assessment criteria: • Clear evidence of planning • Evidence of student research • A critical engagement with concepts, theories, and issues raised during taught sessions and in the accompanying materials • Presentation of the folder including the quality of communication • Demonstration of efficient teamwork.
- 7. Assessment Due – 3.30pm Wednesday 16th December 2009 (Week Twelve). Feed back and mark provided on or before 27th January 2010.
- 8. Individual Role Analysis • An individual analysis of the suitability (or otherwise) of the student for particular roles within a drama production team • The analysis should be the equivalent of 2000 words (+ or – 10%). • The analysis can be in the form of an essay, journal or report or any other form agreed with the tutor. • The analysis should include a consideration of the students strengths and weaknesses in different areas of drama production • Within the analysis there should be close consideration of AT LEAST three roles within a drama production team This Assessment makes up 50% of the mark for this module
- 9. Assessment criteria: • An understanding of the different roles within a dram production team. • Self-awareness and an understanding of limitations • An ability to utilise concepts and theories explored on the module • An engagement with essential and wider reading • Evidence of wider reading and research beyond that covered in taught sessions • A clear argument, supported by evidence and appropriate use of footnotes and bibliography according to the guidelines in the study skills handbook
- 10. Assessment Due – 3.30pm 20th January 2010. Feedback and mark provided by 10th February 2010.
