1. Double Page Spread

2. Article Headline
This is usually the biggest text on the page. Gives the audience a rough idea of
what the article is about.

3. Stand First
Usually smaller than the headline but larger than the main body text. It is an
introduction to the article.

4. By-line
The by-line tells you who wrote the article.

5. Column Structure
It is usually laid out in three or four columns. The column structure is used as it is
easier to read than just one block of text.

6. Main Body Text
Same font as what is used on the contents page. Text which discusses the article
in detail.

7. Image
Usually takes up a whole page. The image itself is visually interesting and has
relevant mise-en-scene. The people featured in the picture are usually related to
the article. Their body language and facial expression can give connotations of
what genre of music the magazine is about.

8. Secondary Images
Gives extra visual examples of the subject which is being discussed in the
article.

9. Pull Quotes
These are taken from an extract out of the article, they are used to try and
entice the audience into reading the article.

10. Drop Cap
This letter is a different colour and size to the rest of the main body text. It also
signifies the start of the article.

11. Bleed
This is when the image which has taken up one page, then goes across slightly
onto the next page.

12. Masthead and Page Number
Located in the bottom corner, gives information on the page number and repeats
the masthead.
