Natural sunlight contains, among other things, UV photons. These photons are shorter in wavelength and higher in energy than visible light. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. It encompasses tasks such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding. AI technologies are revolutionizing various fields, from healthcare to finance, by enabling machines to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence.
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

3. These days, wearing a mask is essential to protect yourself and others. However,
wearing it for an extended period can sometimes be a pain — literally.
According to a Journal issued by the American Academy of Dermatology, more than
one-third of frontline healthcare workers reported adverse skin reactions after wearing
N95 masks daily for several months. In May 2020, they recorded the highest incidence
of acne, facial itch, and rash.
Since masks are essential, whether frontliner or not, we must do whatever we can to
overcome concerns about wearing them. If you find that wearing a face mask is
causing a skin problem like a rash, acne, or other irritation, you may be able to treat it
yourself. Here’s some expert advice from dermatologists and doctors on the frontline of
the coronavirus pandemic:
4. 1. Follow a gentle skincare routine
Skincare plays a vital role in healing your skin. When washing your face, use a mild,
fragrance-free cleanser.
Dry skin is a common face mask skin problem. Applying moisturizer adds a protective
layer that can reduce dryness. It is best to apply it immediately after washing your face.
To get the most benefit from a moisturizer, use one with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and
dimethicone which can also create a barrier that helps reduce irritated skin.
When selecting a moisturizer, you can prevent breakout by using a product formulated
for your skin type. Use gel moisturizer if you have oily skin, lotion if you have normal or
combination skin, and cream if you have dry to very dry skin.
5. 2. Protect your lips by applying petroleum jelly
Dry skin and chapped lips are common face mask problems. You can prevent
chapped lips by apply petroleum jelly after washing your face, before you put on your
face mask, or before bed.
3. Stop applying skincare products and medications that can irritate your skin
Until your skin heals, dermatologists recommend that you stop using acne treatments
that contain salicylic acid, anti-aging products, peels or scrubs, because these
products can irritate skin and delay healing.
4. Skip the makeup when wearing a mask
Beneath a mask, makeup is more likely to clog your pores and lead to breakouts. If
makeup is necessary, use products labeled “non-comedogenic” as these won’t clog
your pores.
6. 5. Wear the right mask
To reduce skin problems, look for masks that are snug and offers comfortable fit, at
least two layers of fabric, soft, natural, and has breathable fabric.
A snug, comfortable fit also reduces skin problems. If the mask you’re using feels
too tight or slides around your face, it can irritate your skin. On the other hand, if
you’re using mask that are poorly fitting, you are more likely to touch your skin.
Hence, you can transfer germs from your hands to your face and mask.
7. 6. Wash your cloth face mask
Oils on your skin and particles that you breathe out collect on the mask. As these
build up, they can irritate the skin covered by your mask. You can remove germs,
oils, and particles by washing a cloth mask in washing machine or by hand after
each use to limit the spread of germs.
If you have a skin condition, it is essential to follow your treatment plan given by
your doctor as this can help keep the condition under control. However, if you skin
stays the same or worsen, it’s time to consult a dermatologist.
