Whether you take a minimal approach when it comes to a beauty routine or devour any skincare
and make-up advice you can get your hands on, one thing remains universal: we all want to
know the very best practices for achieving healthy, radiant skin.
While innovation is a beautiful thing, it seems these days there’s always a new ingredient,
technique, or product on the scene that needs to be added to your skincare routine. It’s easy to
assume that getting healthy, glowing skin requires overhauling and probably emptying your bank
account. You can make significant differences in your skin with some minor changes to your
routine.
The first step is to identify and understand your skin type. Sensitive skin may sting or burn after
product use. Normal skin is clear and not 5. sensitive. Dry skin is flaky, itchy, or rough. Oily skin
is shiny and greasy. Combination skin is dry in some areas and oily in others.
To get amazing skin in seven days, here are some things you need to add or change to your
routine:
1. Wear sunscreen daily
Sunscreen is one of the single most important things you can do for your skin.
When applied correctly, sunscreen protects your skin against the sun’s harmful
ultraviolet rays, which cause sunburn, skin cancer, and premature skin aging
like wrinkles and dark spots. For best protection, apply a broad-spectrum,
water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to all skin not covered by
clothing. Remember that since no sunscreen can block 100% of the sun’s UV
rays, it’s vital to seek shade and wear sun-protective clothing when outdoors.
2. Find an exfoliation routine that works for you.
Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells, revealing the newer, smoother
skin underneath. In general, dermatologists recommend using chemical
exfoliators over physical ones because they tend to be more gentle on the
skin.
For normal and oily skin, use alpha and beta hydroxy acid. AHAs include
glycolic acid and lactic acid ingredients, while salicylic acid is the main BHA in
skincare products.
Those with sensitive skin may want to look into more gentle polyhydroxy acid.
Avoid physical exfoliators like harsh scrubs containing pits or abrasive beads.
3. Add an antioxidant to your skincare regimen
Sun exposure leads to the formation of free radical that causes oxidative stress
and in high amounts can damage the skin. Antioxidants clean up free radicals
and minimize damage to the cells. One of the most common and effective
antioxidants is vitamin C because it reverses the oxidative damage from sun
exposure.
4. Invest in vitamin A
Vitamin A-related compounds such as retinoids are perfect for giving that glow
and brightening the skin. You may know these ingredients as retinol or in a
prescription form, tretinoin or Retin-A. They all work by ramping up the normal
skin cell turnover process, which helps with concerns like fine lines, dark spots,
and acne. Using a retinoid at night is the best way to get a healthy glow.
However, be advised that these ingredients are notorious for irritating the skin
when first starting, so it’s best to use them once a week and increase use
gradually.
