Suspension
&
Steering
Unit
Objective : The objective of the steering system is to provide the maximum direction control of
the vehicle and provide the easy manoueurvability of the vehicle in all of terrains with
appreciable safety and minimum effort . Typical target for the quad vehicle designer is to try and
achieve the least turning radius so that the given feature aids while manoueurvings in narrow
tracks, also important for such a vehicle for drivers effort is minimum. The next factor take in to
considerations deals with the response from the road must be optimum such that driver gets a
suitable feel of the road but at the same time the handling is parameters on other system like the
suspension system should not be adverse.
Design Considerations
 We need a steering system that would be easy to maintain , provide easy operation ,
excellent feedback , cost efficient and compitable to drivers ergonomics. Thus we have
selected the trapezoidal linkage.
 We have increased our front and rear track width to improve the internal stability acc, to
off-road conditions.

SUSPENSION UNIT
Suspension system is referred to the springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connect the
vehicle to the wheels and allows relative motion between the wheels and the vehicle body. Also,
the most important role played by the suspension system is to keep the wheels in contact with the
road all the time. Good suspension system and better handling is the characteristic of a good All-
Terrain
Objective :The overall purpose of a suspension system is to absorb impacts from coarse
irregularities? such as bumps and distribute that force with least amount of discomfort to the
driver.
It supports the weight of the vehicle.
TYPES OF SUSPENSION: Generally, the suspension system is classified into two main
typesDependent Suspension System and Independent Suspension System.
1.1 Dependent Suspension: System This type of suspension system acts as a rigid beam such that
any movement of one wheel is transmitted to the other wheel. Also, the force is transmitted from
one wheel to the other. It is mainly used in rear of many cars and in the front of heavy trucks.
Different types of dependent suspension system are
a) Leaf Spring Suspension. b) Pan hard rod suspension. c) Watt’s Linkage suspension.
1.2 Independent Suspension System: This type of suspension allows any wheel to move
vertical without affecting the other wheel. These suspensions are mainly used in passenger cars
and light trucks as they provide more space for engine and they also have better resistance to
steering vibrations. Different types of independent suspension system are
a) Double Wishbone Suspension b) Transverse Leaf Spring Suspension. c) Trailing Arm
Suspension. d) Macpherson Strut Suspension. e) Semi-trailing Suspension. f) Swing Axle

DESIGN OF SPRING:
A spring is an elastic object used to store mechanical energy. Springs are usually made out of
spring steel. When a spring is compressed or stretched, the force it exerts is proportional to its
change in length. The rate or spring constant of a spring is the change in the force it exerts,
divided by the change in deflection of the spring.

Braking
Unit
BRAKING SYSTEM: The objective of the braking system is to increase the safety and maneuverability of
the vehicle. It converts kinetic motion of vehicle in to heat energy by using frictional force offered by the
brake pads. Thus, the vehicle can be slowed down or stopped at any desired distance.
A. Design Method : The braking system design includes the single disc at the rear axle to lock/stop the
vehicle. Master cylinder is used at the front near the brake pedal providing the occupant to easily
accessible space.
List of design criteria or requirements
 Assign maximum deceleration of the Vehicle
 Calculate target stopping distance and target braking force
 Select optimum brake parts which in combination help achieve target
 Optimize brake design
B. Design of Brake System Elements:
Brake pedal:
Passenger cars generally use a pedal ratio of 3 to 6. We select a pedal ratio of 6 at both rear and front.
Master cylinder: The master cylinder with bore Diameter 10mm proved to be best suited for the design.
The single piston master cylinders were used.
Calliper and Disc Selection:
The dual piston calipers were selected due to their light weight easy availability and reliability.
The disc of suitable to the calliper was used at the rear and front.
Dimensions of Disc and calliper:
Front:
1) Diameter of the Disc: 130mm
2) Thickness of the Disc: 4 mm
3) Effective disc radius: 60mm
4) Coff. Of friction of brake pads: 0.4
Rear:
1) Diameter of the disc: 200mm
2) Thickness of the Disc: 4 mm Fig : Disc Analysis.
3) Effective disc radius: 95 mm
4) Coff. Of friction of brake pads: 0.4
C. Design:
The braking system composed of disc brakes. The disc brakes are arranged for two wheels on the Front
and a single disc at the rear in order to satisfy the braking requirements. The front discs are mounted on
each of the wheel and the rear disc to the axle.
D. Testing:
I. Analysis of the Hub:
The hub for the brake was tested using 3D stress analysis in the ANSYS. The hub was analyzed for
impact forces (KN) and the brake torque. The results of analysis were within permissible range.

Engine
&
Transmission
Unit
Engine : An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into another
energy. Heat engines burn a fuel to create heat, which then creates a force. Electric
motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion; pneumatic motors use compressed
air and clockwork motors in wind-up toys use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular
motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create forces and eventually motion.
The first commercially successful automobile, created by Karl Benz added to the interest in light
and powerful engines. The lightweight petrol internal combustion engine, operating on a four-
stroke Otto cycle, has been the most successful for light automobiles, while the more
efficient Diesel Engine is used for trucks and buses. However, in recent years, turbo Diesel
engines have become increasingly popular, especially outside of the United States, even for quite
small cars.
Automobile Devolopments :-
Earlier automobile engine development produced a much larger range of engines than is in
common use today. Engines have ranged from 1- to 16-cylinder designs with corresponding
differences in overall size, weight, engine displacement, and cylinder bores. Four cylinders and
power ratings from 19 to 120 hp (14 to 90 kW) were followed in a majority of the models.
Several three-cylinder, two-stroke-cycle models were built while most engines had straight or in-
line cylinders. There were several V-type models and horizontally opposed two- and four-
cylinder makes too. Overhead camshafts were frequently employed. The smaller engines were
commonly air-cooled and located at the rear of the vehicle; compression ratios were relatively
low. The 1970s and 1980s saw an increased interest in improved fuel economy, which caused a
return to smaller V-6 and four-cylinder layouts, with as many as five valves per cylinder to
improve efficiency. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 operates with a W16 engine, meaning that
two V8 cylinder layouts are positioned next to each other to create the W shape sharing the same
crankshaft.

HUBS :- A Hub is the central part of a wheel that connects the axle to the wheel itself. Many
expressions use the term for a literal or figurative central structure connecting to a periphery. The
rear wheel hubs are designed keeping inmind simplicity , machinability. The hub is designed
with key way which will be safety housed on the keyway on the shaft ends.

SPONSORS
Sponsor something is to support an event, activity, person, or organization financially or
through the provision of products or services. A sponsor is the individual or group that provides
the support, similar to a benefactor .A range of psychological and communications theories have
been used to explain how commercial sponsorship works to impact consumer audiences. Most
use the notion that a brand (sponsor) and event (sponsored) become linked in memory through
the sponsorship and as a result, thinking of the brand can trigger event-linked associations, while
helping people to go over traffic lights thinking of the event can come to trigger brand-linked
associations.
Team super Ignite achieved the lot of Sponsors from the Last two years. As TSI is the immersive
organization of manufacturing the automobiles , we have achieved the lot of support and
encouragement from the sponsorers . in the tear 2016, we have acjieved the sponsorships from
the Government Organizations , Commercials sectors and from the Industries. The sponsors
encouraged a lot in taking part in the quad Bike design Challenge 2k16.Apart from the GNI
Support, sponsors have given us well wishes in taking part of QBDC. We are very proud to say
that we are the only team took part in QBDC From both Telangana & Andhra Pradesh States.

Objective : The objective of the steering system is to provide the maximum direction control of the vehicle and provide the easy manoueurvability of the vehicle in all of terrains with appreciable safety and minimum effort . Typical target for the quad vehicle designer is to try and achieve the least turning radius so that the given feature aids while manoueurvings in narrow tracks, also important for such a vehicle for drivers effort is minimum. The next factor take in to considerations deals with the response from the road must be optimum such that driver gets a suitable feel of the road but at the same time the handling is parameters on other system like the suspension system should not be adverse. Design Considerations  We need a steering system that would be easy to maintain , provide easy operation , excellent feedback , cost efficient and compitable to drivers ergonomics. Thus we have selected the trapezoidal linkage.  We have increased our front and rear track width to improve the internal stability acc, to off-road conditions. • 19. Fig : Tie Rods Fig : Handle Bars SUSPENSION UNIT Suspension system is referred to the springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connect the vehicle to the wheels and allows relative motion between the wheels and the vehicle body. Also, the most important role played by the suspension system is to keep the wheels in contact with the road all the time. Good suspension system and better handling is the characteristic of a good All- Terrain Objective :The overall purpose of a suspension system is to absorb impacts from coarse irregularities? such as bumps and distribute that force with least amount of discomfort to the driver. It supports the weight of the vehicle. TYPES OF SUSPENSION: Generally, the suspension system is classified into two main typesDependent Suspension System and Independent Suspension System. 1.1 Dependent Suspension: System This type of suspension system acts as a rigid beam such that any movement of one wheel is transmitted to the other wheel. Also, the force is transmitted from one wheel to the other. It is mainly used in rear of many cars and in the front of heavy trucks. Different types of dependent suspension system are a) Leaf Spring Suspension. b) Pan hard rod suspension. c) Watt’s Linkage suspension.
  • 20. 1.2 Independent Suspension System: This type of suspension allows any wheel to move vertical without affecting the other wheel. These suspensions are mainly used in passenger cars and light trucks as they provide more space for engine and they also have better resistance to steering vibrations. Different types of independent suspension system are a) Double Wishbone Suspension b) Transverse Leaf Spring Suspension. c) Trailing Arm Suspension. d) Macpherson Strut Suspension. e) Semi-trailing Suspension. f) Swing Axle Suspension. Springs are usually made out of spring steel. When a spring is compressed or stretched, the force it exerts is proportional to its change in length. The rate or spring constant of a spring is the change in the force it exerts, divided by the change in deflection of the spring. • 23. BRAKING SYSTEM: The objective of the braking system is to increase the safety and maneuverability of the vehicle. It converts kinetic motion of vehicle in to heat energy by using frictional force offered by the brake pads. Thus, the vehicle can be slowed down or stopped at any desired distance. A. Design Method : The braking system design includes the single disc at the rear axle to lock/stop the vehicle. Master cylinder is used at the front near the brake pedal providing the occupant to easily accessible space. List of design criteria or requirements  Assign maximum deceleration of the Vehicle  Calculate target stopping distance and target braking force  Select optimum brake parts which in combination help achieve target  Optimize brake design B. Design of Brake System Elements: Brake pedal: Passenger cars generally use a pedal ratio of 3 to 6. We select a pedal ratio of 6 at both rear and front. Master cylinder: The master cylinder with bore Diameter 10mm proved to be best suited for the design. The single piston master cylinders were used. Calliper and Disc Selection: The dual piston calipers were selected due to their light weight easy availability and reliability. The disc of suitable to the calliper was used at the rear and front. Dimensions of Disc and calliper: Front: 1) Diameter of the Disc: 130mm 2) Thickness of the Disc: 4 mm 3) Effective disc radius: 60mm 4) Coff. • 24. C. Design: The braking system composed of disc brakes. The disc brakes are arranged for two wheels on the Front and a single disc at the rear in order to satisfy the braking requirements. The front discs are mounted on each of the wheel and the rear disc to the axle. D. Testing: I. Analysis of the Hub: The hub for the brake was tested using 3D stress analysis in the ANSYS. The hub was analyzed for impact forces (KN) and the brake torque. The results of analysis were within permissible range. • 26. Engine : An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into another energy. Heat engines burn a fuel to create heat, which then creates a force. Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical motion; pneumatic motors use compressed air and clockwork motors in wind-up toys use elastic energy. In biological systems, molecular motors, like myosins in muscles, use chemical energy to create forces and eventually motion. The first commercially successful automobile, created by Karl Benz added to the interest in light and powerful engines. The lightweight petrol internal combustion engine, operating on a four- stroke Otto cycle, has been the most successful for light automobiles, while the more efficient Diesel Engine is used for trucks and buses. However, in recent years, turbo Diesel engines have become increasingly popular, especially outside of the United States, even for quite small cars. Automobile Devolopments :- Earlier automobile engine development produced a much larger range of engines than is in common use today. Engines have ranged from 1- to 16-cylinder designs with corresponding differences in overall size, weight, engine displacement, and cylinder bores. Four cylinders and power ratings from 19 to 120 hp (14 to 90 kW) were followed in a majority of the models. Several three-cylinder, two-stroke-cycle models were built while most engines had straight or in- line cylinders. There were several V-type models and horizontally opposed two- and four- cylinder makes too. Overhead camshafts were frequently employed. The smaller engines were commonly air-cooled and located at the rear of the vehicle; compression ratios were relatively low. The 1970s and 1980s saw an increased interest in improved fuel economy, which caused a return to smaller V-6 and four-cylinder layouts, with as many as five valves per cylinder to improve efficiency. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 operates with a W16 engine, meaning that two V8 cylinder layouts are positioned next to each other to create the W shape sharing the same crankshaft. HUBS :- A Hub is the central part of a wheel that connects the axle to the wheel itself. Many expressions use the term for a literal or figurative central structure connecting to a periphery. The rear wheel hubs are designed keeping inmind simplicity , machinability. • 50. SPONSORS Sponsor something is to support an event, activity, person, or organization financially or through the provision of products or services. A sponsor is the individual or group that provides the support, similar to a benefactor .A range of psychological and communications theories have been used to explain how commercial sponsorship works to impact consumer audiences. Most use the notion that a brand (sponsor) and event (sponsored) become linked in memory through the sponsorship and as a result, thinking of the brand can trigger event-linked associations, while helping people to go over traffic lights thinking of the event can come to trigger brand-linked associations. Team super Ignite achieved the lot of Sponsors from the Last two years. As TSI is the immersive organization of manufacturing the automobiles , we have achieved the lot of support and encouragement from the sponsorers . in the tear 2016, we have acjieved the sponsorships from the Government Organizations , Commercials sectors and from the Industries. The sponsors encouraged a lot in taking part in the quad Bike design Challenge 2k16.Apart from the GNI Support, sponsors have given us well wishes in taking part of QBDC.
