Policy Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation for the K to 12 Basic
Education Program

• The Department of Education recognizes that
instructional planning is essential to successful
teaching and learning.
• Daily lesson preparation also encourages reflective
practice since it requires teachers to think about and
reflect on their instructional practices on a daily basis.
Rationale
• Instruction refers to the methods and processes used
to direct learning.
• Instructional Planning is the process of systematically
planning, developing and managing the instructional
process by using principles of teaching and learning.
Definition of Terms
• Daily Lesson Log (DLL) is a template teachers use to log
parts of their daily lesson. The DLL covers a day’s or a
week’s worth of lessons and contains the following parts:
– Objectives
– Content
– Learning Resources
– Procedures
– Remarks and
– Reflection
Definition of Terms
• DepEd hereby issues these guidelines on daily lesson
preparation to institutionalized instructional planning
as a critical part of the teaching and learning process.
These guidelines are meant to support teachers in
effectively organizing and managing K to 12 classrooms
to be genuinely responsive to learner’s needs. schools.
Policy Statement
• Moreover, these guidelines in the preparation of DLP
and DLL shall inculcate reflective practice among
teachers by providing them opportunities to think
about and reflect on their instructional practices. Daily
lesson preparation is part of the teacher’s core function
as a facilitator of learning inside the classroom as
affirmed through DepEd’s RPMS. Well-prepared and
well-planned lessons are fundamental to ensuring the
delivery of quality teaching and learning in schools.

Parts of a Lesson
• This part of the DLL includes related to content knowledge and
competencies.
• The number of objectives set depends on the subject areas. Language
Subjects such as MTB, Fil. And Eng. are composed of 2-3 objectives per
day but subjects such as EsP has weekly objectives.
• Objectives can be found in Teacher’s Guide.

• The content standards and performance standards refer to the
learning area-based facts, concepts, and procedures that students
need to learn.
• This can be found in the Curriculum Guides.
• The placement of content and performance standards differs each
subject.
• English, Filipino and MTB is place on a separate page while the rest of
the subject sis included in the competency.
• Filipino has no performance standard from Grade 1-3. It starts at
Grade 4.
• Note: For Language Subjects Eng. MTB and Filipino Contents and
Performance Standards follow the 14 domains. Each domains has each
own content and performance standards,

• The learning competencies pertain to the knowledge, skills and
attitudes that students need to demonstrate in a lesson. The
competency codes are also logged in this parts.
• This can be found in the Curriculum Guide.

• The topic or subject matter pertains to the particular content
that the lesson focuses on.
• Content can be found curriculum guides in some subjects while
language subjects it can be found in the Teachers Guide

Sample Content in Math
• This part of the DLL asks teachers to log the references and other
learning resources that the teacher will use for the lesson. The
references include the particular pages of the TG, LM, textbooks
and the additional materials from the LRMDS portal. The other
learning resources refer to materials such as those that are
teacher-made, authentic and others not included tools and
other non-print materials needed for activities before, during
and after the lesson.

• This part of the DLL contains ten (10) parts including:
1. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting New Lesson
(Balik-aral sa nakaraang aralin at/o pagsisimula ng bagong aralin)
2. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson
(Paghahabi sa layunin ng aralin)
3. Presenting Examples/instances of the new Lesson
(Pag-uugnay ng mga halimbawa sa bagong aralin)
4. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #1
Pagtalakay ng bagnong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong kasanayan #1
Procedure
• This part of the DLL contains ten (10) parts including:
5. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #2
(Pagtalakay ng bagnong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong
kasanayan #2)
6. Developing Mastery Leads to Formative Assessment #3
(Paglinang sa Kabihasan Tungo sa Formative Assessment
7. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts and skills in daily
living
(Paglalapat ng aralin sa pang-araw-araw na buhay)
Procedure
• This part of the DLL contains ten (10) parts including:
8. Making Generalizations and Abstractions about the Lesson
(Paglalapat ng Aralin
9. Evaluating Learning
(Pagtataya ng Aralin)
10. Additional Activities for Application or Remediation
(Karagdagang gawain para sa takdang aralin at remediation.
Procedure
Learning Resources
• The teacher uses Differentiated instruction and
grouped the class to three different levels Fast,
Average and Basic or (Blue, Red and Yellow)
• Basic Group or Yellow Group benefits from Explicit
Instruction while Blue and Red group can work
independently.
Important Note
• Flexibility is allowed in the delivery of the DLL procedures.
Teachers do not need to go through all ten(10) parts in every
lesson. Teachers need to ensure that the procedures of the
lesson lead to the achievement of the objectives. The formative
assessment methods to be used by the teacher should
determine if the objectives of the lesson are being met. These
ten parts should be done across the week.
Remarks
• This part of the DLL in which teachers shall indicate special
cases including but not limited to:
a) continuation of lesson plan to the following day
b) in case of re-teaching or lack of time,
c) transfer to the following day in cases of class suspension
Reflection
• This part of the DLL requires teachers to reflect on and assess
their effectiveness. In this part of the DLL, the teacher should
make notes on the number of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation, the number of learners who require additional
activities for remediation and those who continue to require
remediation, the effectiveness of the remedial lesson, teaching
strategies or methods that worked well and why, and the
difficulties teacher encountered that their principal can help
solve,

  • 2. • The Department of Education recognizes that instructional planning is essential to successful teaching and learning. • Daily lesson preparation also encourages reflective practice since it requires teachers to think about and reflect on their instructional practices on a daily basis.   • 3. • Instruction refers to the methods and processes used to direct learning. • Instructional Planning is the process of systematically planning, developing and managing the instructional process by using principles of teaching and learning. Definition of Terms
  • 4. • Daily Lesson Log (DLL) is a template teachers use to log parts of their daily lesson. The DLL covers a day’s or a week’s worth of lessons and contains the following parts: – Objectives – Content – Learning Resources – Procedures – Remarks and – Reflection Definition of Terms
  • 5. • DepEd hereby issues these guidelines on daily lesson preparation to institutionalized instructional planning as a critical part of the teaching and learning process. These guidelines are meant to support teachers in effectively organizing and managing K to 12 classrooms to be genuinely responsive to learner’s needs. schools. Policy Statement
  • 6. • Moreover, these guidelines in the preparation of DLP and DLL shall inculcate reflective practice among teachers by providing them opportunities to think about and reflect on their instructional practices. Daily lesson preparation is part of the teacher’s core function as a facilitator of learning inside the classroom as affirmed through DepEd’s RPMS. Well-prepared and well-planned lessons are fundamental to ensuring the delivery of quality teaching and learning in schools. Policy Statement

  • 9. Parts of a Lesson
  • 10. • This part of the DLL includes related to content knowledge and competencies. • The number of objectives set depends on the subject areas. Language Subjects such as MTB, Fil. And Eng. are composed of 2-3 objectives per day but subjects such as EsP has weekly objectives. • Objectives can be found in Teacher’s Guide. Objective
  • 12. • The content standards and performance standards refer to the learning area-based facts, concepts, and procedures that students need to learn. • This can be found in the Curriculum Guides. • The placement of content and performance standards differs each subject. • English, Filipino and MTB is place on a separate page while the rest of the subject sis included in the competency. • Filipino has no performance standard from Grade 1-3. It starts at Grade 4. • Note: For Language Subjects Eng. MTB and Filipino Contents and Performance Standards follow the 14 domains.   • 17. • The learning competencies pertain to the knowledge, skills and attitudes that students need to demonstrate in a lesson. The competency codes are also logged in this parts. • This can be found in the Curriculum Guide. Learning Competencies

  • 19. • The topic or subject matter pertains to the particular content that the lesson focuses on. • Content can be found curriculum guides in some subjects while language subjects it can be found in the Teachers Guide Content

  • 22. • This part of the DLL asks teachers to log the references and other learning resources that the teacher will use for the lesson. The references include the particular pages of the TG, LM, textbooks and the additional materials from the LRMDS portal. The other learning resources refer to materials such as those that are teacher-made, authentic and others not included tools and other non-print materials needed for activities before, during and after the lesson.   • 24. • This part of the DLL contains ten (10) parts including: 1. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting New Lesson (Balik-aral sa nakaraang aralin at/o pagsisimula ng bagong aralin) 2. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson (Paghahabi sa layunin ng aralin) 3. Presenting Examples/instances of the new Lesson (Pag-uugnay ng mga halimbawa sa bagong aralin) 4. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #1 Pagtalakay ng bagnong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong kasanayan #1 Procedure
  • 25. • This part of the DLL contains ten (10) parts including: 5. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #2 (Pagtalakay ng bagnong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong kasanayan #2) 6. Developing Mastery Leads to Formative Assessment #3 (Paglinang sa Kabihasan Tungo sa Formative Assessment 7. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts and skills in daily living (Paglalapat ng aralin sa pang-araw-araw na buhay) Procedure
  • 26. • This part of the DLL contains ten (10) parts including: 8. Making Generalizations and Abstractions about the Lesson (Paglalapat ng Aralin 9. Evaluating Learning (Pagtataya ng Aralin) 10. Additional Activities for Application or Remediation (Karagdagang gawain para sa takdang aralin at remediation. Procedure
  • 27. Learning Resources • The teacher uses Differentiated instruction and grouped the class to three different levels Fast, Average and Basic or (Blue, Red and Yellow) • Basic Group or Yellow Group benefits from Explicit Instruction while Blue and Red group can work independently.
  • 28. Important Note • Flexibility is allowed in the delivery of the DLL procedures. Teachers do not need to go through all ten(10) parts in every lesson. Teachers need to ensure that the procedures of the lesson lead to the achievement of the objectives. The formative assessment methods to be used by the teacher should determine if the objectives of the lesson are being met. These ten parts should be done across the week.
  • 29. Remarks • This part of the DLL in which teachers shall indicate special cases including but not limited to: a) continuation of lesson plan to the following day b) in case of re-teaching or lack of time, c) transfer to the following day in cases of class suspension
  • 30. Reflection • This part of the DLL requires teachers to reflect on and assess their effectiveness. In this part of the DLL, the teacher should make notes on the number of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation, the number of learners who require additional activities for remediation and those who continue to require remediation, the effectiveness of the remedial lesson, teaching strategies or methods that worked well and why, and the difficulties teacher encountered that their principal can help solve,
