This document reviews Ayurvedic interventions for treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), specifically focusing on Panchakarma treatments. It summarizes 8 human trials that met the review's inclusion criteria. The trials found that Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatments effectively reduced symptoms of DMD like muscle weakness and reduced serum CPK levels, a diagnostic marker for muscle damage. However, the review also notes that more research is still needed as there are relatively few published studies on using Ayurveda to manage DMD. It concludes that an integrated conventional and Ayurvedic treatment approach may open new hopes for treating this currently incurable disease.
