Changes Of Climate Change Across Earth
Hominins During the Pleistocene
What is the Pleistocene? According to Understanding Humans: Introduction to Physical
Anthropology and Archaeology, the Pleistocene, or the Ice Age, was a period 1.8 mya 10,000 ya
marked by drastic fluctuations of climate change across Earth. The Pleistocene alternated between
extreme periods of glaciations and interglacials. During glaciations, temperatures dropped
drastically. In northern continents this drop in temperature led to mass accumulations of ice,
measuring nearly a mile thick; however, these glaciers were not seen everywhere. In Africa,
glaciations led to more arid and dry climates. Interglacials, on the other hand, were periods of
warmer climate. During interglacials, climate would become ... Show more content on

During both the Early Pleistocene and the Middle Pleistocene, we see a number of hominins that
paved the way to modern human development (Boaz Ciochon, 2004). One of these hominins is
Homo erectus (Lewis et al., 2013). According to Lewis (2013) while it is probable that they first
developed developed in Africa, it also . . . seems likely that H. erectus first arose in East Africa
and then very quickly migrated to other continents ; however, it is hard to prove this hypothesis
as new fossils are found (p. 236). While H. erectus characteristics vary across continents, the
majority share the same range in body size, brains, and cranial shape. H. erectus adults had robust
bodies weighing more than 100 lbs. and measuring 5 6 tall. The range in H. erectus brain size is
700 to 1250 cm(^3). The most distinct characteristic of H. erectus is its cranial shape. The cranium
displays a thick cranial bone, large brow ridges, a pointy nuchal torus at the posterior, low forehead
development, a wide cranium base, and finally a sagittal keel (Lewis et al., 2013). According to The
First Humans, environments during the Early Pleistocene fluctuated, but they tended to be more
open and wet than the Pliocene environments before them. Thus, it was warmer. These open
grassland environments yielded bulky, herding mammals. The First Humans also suggests the
anatomy and physiology of H. erectus allowed for the endurance they needed in order to obtain
these mammals for

Hepatic Portal Vein Obstruction ( Ehpvo )
Introduction: Extra hepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO), i.e., in the absence of liver cirrhosis
or abdominal cancer, is a rare manifestation of venous thrombosis that often leads to portal
hypertension1.After prothrombin, factor V, next most common cause of thrombophilia is high
plasma levels of coagulation factor VIII, which are present in approximately 20% of patients with
deep vein thrombosis(DVT) of the lower limbs and increase the risk of the disease in a dose
dependent manner 2. Like fibrinogen, factor VIII is an acute phase reactant whose concentration
rises in plasma in the presence of inflammation. However, high factor VIII levels are associated
with an increased risk of DVT independently of the acute phase reaction3.
Case report: A 21 year old male in good health and with no significant past medical history
presented with abdominal pain for 2 months in epigastric and left hypochondrium. He is not on any
drugs. History of similar complaints in his younger sister and she died 2 years back without any
evaluation. A contrast enhanced computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed superior
mesenteric vein thrombosis with multiple collaterals in perigastric and porta hepatis. A
coagulation profile work up was done. His factor VIII activity concentration was found to be 260%

Youth Apathy And Apathy
A common sentiment among the older generations is that the youth of today have stopped caring.
The youth of today are almost always disengaged with politics and world issues (K.), and it seems
that apathy has taken hold of the new generation. However, youth apathy should not be blamed on
the youth themselves, as this apathy comes from a culmination of pressures and circumstances
beyond their control. This is due to popular shows promoting the message of apathy, the biology of
young adults and teenagers, and the oversaturation of world issues in the media. Instead of pushing
blame on youth for their apathetic leanings, it is time to examine the core of why youth begin to
feel this way. The average youth spends 9 hours per day consuming... Show more content on

Moreover, in some teenagers it may be more than hormones. A study by Oxford University
found that [it may be] more of an effort for apathetic people to turn decisions into actions ( Brain
). As such, some adolescents may be biologically predisposed to apathy, as it takes them more
time to make decisions than their more engaged counterparts. To summarise, the problem of
apathy among youth comes from the youth s biology. The prevalence of negative news within
the media has also become detrimental to the engagement of youth. The exposure to negative
media within the news can cause teenagers to experience a large amount of emotional distress,
sometimes leading to the development of post traumatic stress disorder (Pollard). As such,
adolescents bombarded by negative news may become too overwhelmed by the news that they
view, thus causing them to prefer escapism to activism. A survey from Times Mirror shows that
while more people think the news is too full of violence, fewer people today than in the 1980 s
believe that the news exaggerates the amount of violence in America (Clark). Thusly, as people
believe that the news, though full of violence, does not exaggerate this violence, adolescents
surrounded by this news may begin to feel overwhelmed by the negativity, and will stop caring.
Overall, the perceived prevalence of negative

Brief History Of Windows Operating System
Brief History of the Windows Operating System
In 1981, Microsoft bought all the rights to an operating system (OS) called 86 DOS and worked
closely with IBM to develop it further as MS DOS. MS DOS was an operating system without
any graphical windows or mouse pad controls. The users had to type in the demand manually. In
1985, Microsoft published the first Windows 1.0 operating system, however, it was not an
independent OS, rather a graphical implementation of the MS DOS commands. Windows 3.1,
published in 1992, was the first operating system that had major commercial success. Microsoft
developed the system with 32 bit graphic and enhanced sound driver. The company made several
improvements to its operating system until 2001, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Between Community Quilts And The Quilt
Comparison of community quilts The quilt that was created to represent my community
encompassed the people and things that are central to my life. As a recent transplant to
Colorado, I have not developed a strong sense of community so I have become accustomed to
my family supports that are located throughout United States. First I would like to explain some
images and symbols in my quilt which will help with the comparison of the community quilt
made for the Strive Smart Preparatory School. My quilt has the central figures of my daughter
and I, whom I hold dearly and is the most important person in my life. The surrounding images
are my love of travel, seeing parts of the world that I always dreamed about and my curiosity of
other cultures. The image of a chameleon is a trait of my personality and the ability to adapt to
different environments and challenges. The dragon slayer is an ultra ego figure that I envision
myself as being courageous; there are two figures in the image, which I see my daughter
(Chelsea) as being with the aid of her mother. The two images of a hutch back and graphic of
China devouring the world is my artwork, created to express opinions of environmental
destruction, which is further convey by the Apple symbol at the top with the green leaves
budding from the earth. Lastly is the symbol for my love of music. I grew up listening to a wide
range of music from classic rock to rhythm and blues (R B). I appreciate having listened to a good

ISIS Vs. Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi
ISIS is a government because it is an organization that uses terror to control a group of people
into following their rules. One example is the religious police who work for ISIS. The religious
police control people by forcing women to cover their hair and faces in public, and having shop
owners close their shop during the time for Muslim prayers. In addition, there are different
positions in this organization. Abu Bakr al Baghdadi was the self proclaimed leader of ISIS, and
he has a leadership council, a cabinet, and local leaders that help him control his area. The area
that ISIS controls was gained by conquering other civilizations. Therefore, the state origin for ISIS
is the force theory. ISIS is also a state because it has a population,

Essay On Zimbardo Experiment
Philip Zimbardo is an emeritus professor at the Stanford University and has spent the past 50
years studying and teaching psychology. With a Ph.D. from Yale University, Zimbardo
specializes and focuses on several areas such as terrorism, madness and evil. Zimbardo is most
well known for the infamous Stanford Prison Study that was carried out in 1971. The experiment
tested college students and their tendency to attribute the causes of their behavior to personal
factors and the chances of underestimating the influence of situational conditions. The aim of his
experiment was to reveal how social roles might influence a person s behavior. Twenty four
college students were asked to role play as prisoners (twelve) and guards (twelve) for a course of
two weeks. By the sixth day of the experiment, Zimbardo (superintendent) had to stop the whole
study due to the lack of ethical consideration. All participants were stripped of their personal
belongings and dressed into clothing that suited their roles. Prisoners wore prison clothing and
were given beddings. Prison guards were dressed in a khaki uniform, with... Show more content on

`` Animal Liberation `` By Richard Ryder
To start with, The term Animal Rights did not emerge until the late 1970 s, according to
Encyclopedia Britannica. In Particular, Richard Ryder, a British Psychologist, expressed his
boldest ideas, but in order to get his word out around the world he needed assistance from one of
the top Australian philosophers, Peter Singer. Singer published numerous of notable books such as
Animal liberation which described in vivid detail, the grueling agony animals had to suffer. In fact,
Pete Singer got his inspiration for his book Animal liberation from his view on utilitarianism, the
belief that a morally good action is one that helps the greatest number of people and animals.

The Best Vacation Spots
There are many places to go for a vacation. Usually the most popular choices are the soft sandy
beaches or the white snowy mountains. Both places offer a ton of exciting activities to do
through out the day and night. In a contrasting perspective the beach offers a variety of amenities
that the mountains do not and vice versa. These get away spots are very different in many ways
such as climate, actives to do and location. The climate is a very important part of planning a
trip. It determines all sorts of things like the clothes you ll wear and the things you ll be doing.
In the mountains where the forestation is extremely vivacious, the air is crisp, the altitude is very
high, and the temperature is freezing cold. In response to the drastic weather change, big thick
insulated jackets, mittens, beanies, scarves, and snow boots are necessary to keep warm. Also,
Due to the severe weather, the mountains tend to be very secluded, perfect for a romantic
getaway. The beach however, is surrounded by the endless ocean and the warm soft sand. The
beach has a low altitude, and has a very warm temperature with an occasional ocean breeze. Due to
the heat and water nearby, people usually wear bathing suits, sunglasses, and flip flops. The
different activities one could experience at either destination are very different. At the mountains
the snow gives an unlimited amount of fun snow sports such as, snowboarding, skiing, toboggan

Criminal Profiling Case Study
Profiling is the recording and analysis of a person s psychological and behavioral characteristics,
it helps to assess or predict their capabilities in a certain area or to assist in identifying a particular
subgroup of people. Looking at the makeup of a crime can help to identify who the subject is. All
suspects have different signatures and modus operandi that connect crimeto person, and it would
not be successful without connecting the crime scene to the background of a person through
psychology. Below are three criminal cases that used psychology and criminal profiling to have a
result in successful trackings. The first case, that of Joseph Paul Franklin, also recognized as The
Racist Killer , was born into a poor Alabama family. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the killings, they all fit one profile, young, African American males taken in public areas during

also thought to be the one behind the death of more than twenty others. The string of cases of the
twenty others was known as the Atlanta Child Murders, after the discovery of two young black
children were found murdered and hidden under bushes. As more victims were being found,
Williams changed his modus operandi. He went from hiding the bodies to dumping them into the
Chattahoochee River, allowing investigators to get a better lead and staking out all 14 of the
bridges above the river. a group of law enforcement officers on surveillance at the river heard a loud
splash around 3 a.m. On the bridge, a car fled the scene, and the police pursued and pulled it over.
The driver was Wayne Williams, a 22 year old black freelance photographer. The police had no
idea what the splash was at this point, so they had to let Williams go (Wayne). Just a few days
later a body was found in the river, allowing investigators to call Williams back in for questioning.
He was then arrested and given two subsequent life sentences for the murder of two men, and not
being convicted of the other twenty murders they thought to be connected to

The Value Of Waste Control
Mass customization of products has become a common approach in manufacturing organizations.
Explain the ways in which mass customization can be applied to service firms as well. In many
ways mass customization has always been a factor that service firms have necessarily embraced.
The intangible business of dealing with people directly and providing services is by nature
customized to individuals involved in the transaction(s). What mass customization of products in
manufacturing contexts can provide to service organizations by way of example; are the models of
lean manufacturing, kaizen and organizational structure. Lean manufacturing teaches the value of
waste control, kaizen frames continuous improvement and the common factor between these
approaches is highly trained employees (Daft, 2016). Highly trained employees who are
empowered and versed in both technical aspects and soft skill aspects of customer interaction; best
support a service organization. A service organization employee has to be able to address
customized requests at each interaction, which is why service firms are labor and knowledge
intensive (Daft, 2016, p. 273) when compared to the product focus of a manufacturing firm.
Although there is that clear difference in focus (or expenditure) between a manufacturing
organization and a service organization, an organic structure is most applicable for both. Highly
trained and empowered employees function best in an organic, decentralized environment

Political Science Of Political Sabotage Or Dirty Plans Essay
Ratf**ked is a term used in political science to describe political sabotage or dirty plans. David
Daley, in his book of the same name, describes Republicans incentives in 2010 to take control of
state legislatures and control congressional redistricting processes. Republicans were then able
to take redistrict in favor of a republican controlled congress being elected. This plan was entitled
The Redistricting Majority Project or REDMAP (Daley 2016). After the 2008 election, the future
of the Republican Party looked grim. Obama took Republican strongholds like Virginia and North
Carolina and Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate during
the election. Chris Jankowski, a member of the Republican State Leadership Committee, came up
with a plan to help the Republicans gain control of the state legislatures. He realized the
importance of the 2010 mid term elections with the upcoming census, whichever party controlled
the state legislatures got to control the redistricting process for congressional districts in 42 of 50
states (Daley 2016). Jankowski had $30 million dollars to invest in states that Republicans could
control both governors office and the legislature. His REDMAP team would create priority lists of
swing states, to state houses, and finally to state senates that they had to win. Republicans focused
their time and energy on areas that they believed that they could swing red or keep red by calling,

Honorable In Julius Caesar
What makes someone honorable or corrupt? Webster defines honorable as deserving of respect
or high regard. Webster also defines corrupt as to change from good to bad in morals, manners,
or action. Honor is doing something for moral excellence. Being dishonorable or corrupt is
flaunting one s own abilities for completing a deed. Who comes to mind when you think
honorable? Who comes to mind when you think corrupt? Everyone has a different opinion for
who is honorable and who is dishonorable or corrupt. In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar,
multiple people can qualify as honorable or dishonorable; it just depends on the way you see a
situation. As a result, I consider Titinus to be the most honorable and Octavius to be the worst...

Titinus responds respectfully, O Cassius, Brutus gave the word too early, Who, having some
advantage on Octavius, Took it too eagerly. His soldiers fell to spoil, Whilst we by Antony are
all enclosed (Shakespeare 5.3.5 8). Titinius is now correcting Cassius in a nice way saying that
Brutus has already sent the troops to surprise attack, but they left. This kind of explanation from
Titinius shows us he is respectful, and he is not showing off to Cassius. The next and final
reason why I feel that Titinius is the most honorable is the loyalty he has. Titinius shows loyalty
in the most brave way. He is so loyal to Cassius that when he finds himself at Cassius s body, he
kills himself. Some would say he is completely crazy, but others say this is loyal and the thing to
do. In my opinion, Titinius is very loyal to Cassius, and I would commend him for that. As a
result, I find Cassius honorable for being obedient, a fearless man, and a loyal soldier. Just as
Titinius most honorable character in the play, from my perspective, Octavius is the most
dishonorable. Octavius is the son of Caesar. Octavius should have set a better example from the
beginning. Octavius is dishonorable because he is very destructive. When Lepidus and Octavius
first meet, Octavius already says to Lepidus that his brother must die, too. He says blantly, Your
brother must too die; consent you Lepidus? (Shakespeare 4.1.2). This tells us that he is already

A Literary Analysis of Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War is a story which takes place in New England in the 1970 s. Most of the
events happen in a Catholic school. Since this school was exclusively for boys, they were
constantly trying to prove their power over each other. The story is told in third person
omniscient. The story s mood is suspenseful. With each page turn one wonders if Jerry will take
or refuse his chocolates. The protagonist of this story is Jerry Renault and the antagonist in Archie

These chocolate sales raise money for the school and give more authority to Leon. The Brother
then bribes people to sell chocolates. He eventually brings disaster to the school.
The major conflict in The Chocolate Waris the conflict between Jerry and Archie. Archie has
assigned Jerry to decline his share of chocolates to sell for ten days. Jerry carries out this
assignment; but on the eleventh day he continues to decline the chocolates. Archie reminds Jerry
that he is only to decline for ten days. Jerry continues to disobey. He is committing ultimate
betrayal; he is intentionally ignoring the orders of The Vigils. Archie and Jerry become enemies,
and they continuously quarrel. Archie finally orders a fight between Emile, a Vigil wannabe, and
Jerry.
One minor conflict is between Jerry and his unresolved feelings toward his mother s death. These
feelings, I felt, were mainly the reason he did not take the chocolates. Jerry is looking for a
change in his life; a change to get him away from thinking of his mother. Another minor conflict is
between Obie and Archie. Obie feels that he is always taking blame for Archie s doings. If Archie
fails then Obie takes blame. If Archie succeeds then Archie gets the credit. Obie becomes angrier
with each assignment Archie gives out.
The turning point in the story takes place when Jerry refuses to take the

Cement, Neopolymer and Similar Compositions
2.Conventional cement
The function of cement is for isolating production zone and to provide support for the casing
[11].Portland cement is made up of calcium oxide (CaO), silicon dioxide (SiO) and water (H2O)
which the composition of calcium carbonate is around 75 80 wt% and 20 25 wt% of clay [7],[14]..
Compressive strength of Portland cement is developed through hydration. Hydration is chemical
reaction between water and cement compound. The rheology and early strength of cement is
developed from reaction of aluminate compound at the beginning of hydration. Rate of hydration
can be control by adding gypsum. It is for preventing the premature hardening of cement. Gypsum
will react with aluminate and hydroxyl ion to form ettrigate. Ettrigate will prevent hydration
process by forming needle shaped crystal on the aluminate and creating induction period [11].
Some addictive can be added to the cement to enhance the properties of cement. There are
accelerator, retarder, extender, weighting agent, dispersant, fluid loss control agent and loss
circulation agent [11].
AcceleratorUse to speed up the early stages of hydration. Applicable in shallow well.
RetarderInhibit hydration and slow the setting time of cement. Applicable in deep well.
ExtenderReduce slurry density, thus reduce the hydrostatic pressure during cementing operation.

The black and white spot of the innocent puppy depicts the dawn whereas the darkness of the night
intervene with the brightness of the morning. In paragraph 1, the color of the whole environment is
grey. The combination of the black and white spot of the puupy is grey. The tension between the
night and morning depicts the life. Life is often compared to the stages of the day dawn (infant),
morning (adulthood), noon (man), dusk (near death) and night (death). It is a contradiction that the
puppy died in the dawn and not in the dusk or evening. It suugest that life is unfair, we could die in
unexpected way like what happen to the puppy, existed from dawn to morning and eventually when
sunrise came the puppy dies. The black and white spots also symbolize the yin yang principle. Two
halves that together complete wholeness. Yin and yangare also the starting point for change. When
something is whole, by definition it is unchanging and complete. So when you split something
into two halves yin / yang, it upsets the equilibrium of wholeness. This starts both halves chasing
after each other as they seek a new balance with each other. The word Yin comes out to mean

Technology As A Tool For Teaching Students
As times change, so does usage of technology. More and more schools across the world are using
technology as a tool in teaching their students. While there are several districts that teach in the
traditional sense, there has been a steady incline as to the amount of school districts across the
world that are switching to iPads and other electronic devices to aide in the pupil s education.
Depending on the administrators, students are allowed to bring their devices to the classroom
(BYOD, Bring Your Own Device), while other districts receive grants and other types of funding to
purchase a technology device for each student.
The primary concern to many districts is the cost factor. First and foremost, the school district has to

The main question posed with these technological advances in education is, is it really benefiting
the children enough to budget that much money to purchase all of these electronic devices?
According to a study done in Scotland, by using the traditional holistic way of teaching, there is a
gap in gender according to Department for Education and Skills, there has been a steady 10%
difference in male and females. Instead of both sexes being equal, males have had the shorter end
of the stick. (Department for Education and Skills, 2003)
When the schools were able to integrate the Apple iPads, researchers and observers noticed that
the male s scores were able to increase to the average girl s score. A huge concern was the fact that
male s were slowly but surely falling behind in their academics. Although this does not prove that
the money spent on this expedition has been worth their while, it does improve many student s
participation and interest in the academic department. (McPhee Marks, 2013)
One crucial and possible setback, if not closely monitored and taken into consideration is the fact
that some teachers do not want the Apple iPads integrated into their teaching techniques. A good
portion of teachers are from the traditional type of teaching and ready to retire after so many years
of using the same routine. They might ask, I m about to leave so why should I even bother learning

A Quick History Of Abortion Pills
A quick history of abortion pills and how they came to be comes from WebMD. The top drug
used for abortions is mifepristone also known as RU 486. Testing of the drug began in 1983
when the FDA issued a permit. Jan. 1993 President Clinton asked for the FDA to reconsider their

drug was manufactured and labeled before they could make their final decision. On September 28,
2000 the FDA approved RU 486 as a method for early medical abortion.

Aganist the Guangzhou-Shenzhen- Hong Kong Express Railway
The confrontations about the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong Express Railway (XRL) came to
an end four years ago as the Chief Executive Donald Tsang approved the implementation of this
cross cities high speed rail link. (Hong Kong Government, 2009) Yet, related debates have not
ended. While some citizens oppose to the construction of this rail link, the government and few
others insist that the project will be beneficial to Hong Kong. However, this essay argues that XRL
should not be built because it is not, both economically and socially, beneficial to our city.
It seems that the express rail link will provide huge benefits to the economy and society of Hong
Kong. With 100,000 passengers flow projected by the government, XRL is said to bring various
benefits to the city. (Hong Kong Government, 2009).
The government claims that XRL can further enhance the exchange and cooperation between
Mainland and Hong Kong economically and socially. As a result of such closer tie with Mainland,
Hong Kong will enjoy an $87 billion benefit from time saved by passengers, more investment from
the Mainland, and also, about 21,000 job opportunities. Overall,
Yet, the above expectation on XRL may be overly optimistic. It is likely that the rail will face
fierce competition from its counterparts. In fact, by 2020, 78.95% of trains running along the rail
will end their services at Shenzhen. Apart from this, 278,960 people travel between Hong Kong
Shenzhen every day by the East Rail Line,

My Virtual Child Experience
The virtual child stimulation is an online program that offers students a feel of what it is like to
raise a child and make parenting decisions concerning that child. Students also learn about the
situations that occur in the three main life stages, and see how their decisions determine how their
child will turn out. The focus of this assignment will be on my virtual child, Jason, the problems
that occurred in the life stages, and the options I chose when raising Jason.
In the Infant/Toddler stage, an incident occurred while we were visiting a relative who owned a
pool. I tried to keep an eye on Jason, but got distracted. I heard a splash, and ran outside to the
pool to find Jason sinking below the surface. I grabbed him and pulled him to safety. I checked to
see if he had swallowed any water, dried him off with a towel, and calmed him down.
After this incident, I was presented with three options. The first option was to speak firmly to
him about staying away from pools so it would make a big impression. The second option was to
resolve to having Jason wear a safety vest whenever he is around pools. The third option was to
decide to enroll Jason in toddler swimming lessons, which emphasize safety, holding your breath,
swimming to the edge of the pool, and holding on. I chose the third option. I felt it necessary to
sign him up for toddler swimming lessons. Studies show that registering your child in a swimming
class to learn how to swim helps reduces the risk of childhood

One On One Observation
After reading chapter thirteen and fourteen, I have chosen to do my observation on a show
called One on One and the I Carly show. While watching One on One, the main characters in this
show was Breanna, who was the daughter, Arnez, who was Breanna best friend, Spirit, who was
Breanna and Arnez s best friend, and Breanna s dad, whose name was Flex. Breanna has an
outfit that looks way back from the 90 s. She is kind of the laid back member of the group. Her
favorite part of the outfit is her earring hoops because she wears the in almost every episode.
Breanna s gestures look very fun. She loves to get very hype and dance a lot. As the volume was
on mute, I observed that in this episode, she was very happy and laughed a lot. Breanna s facial
expressions was that throughput the ten minutes of watching the episode, it seemed like she joked

He has on pants and a shirt, which says that he s just looking to have a chilled day in this

talking to someone, he seems to be focused on them and only them. He also looks them directly
in the eye. Arnez s facial expression seemed to be a little serious. Spirit s dress outfit says that
she loves to make her own style. Spirit is a fashion designer in the show. She loves creating her
own outfit. In this episode, her outfit has assorted colors, and she has her hair in a nice her style,
such as braids and it is curled towards the end of the braid. Spirit s has a lot of hand gestures
when talking. Seems like she communicates a lot with her hand gestures within the show. Spirit s
facial expressions seem to be very concerning. Flex s dress is more like a business attire in this
episode. Flex has strong and demanding gestures. His facial expressions seem to be mad all the

Patricia Parker s Inescapable Romance Analysis
Review of Patricia Parker s Inescapable Romance Parker, Patricia A. Inescapable Romance:
Studies in the Poetics of a Mode. Princeton University, 2016. x, 290p. Romance is a literary term
that has remained shrouded in a cloak of ambiguity for centuries. Many scholars and critics
believe that this is due to the frequent redefinition of the term by those attempting to use it as a
genre, mode, or style to enhance their work. Due to this obscurity, a study in the poetics of
romance is an extensive task that is frequently avoided but desperately needed. Patricia Parker, a
professor of English and dramatic literature at Stanford University, eagerly accepts this task in
her work Inescapable Romance: Studies in the Poetics of a Mode. Parker sets out to approach
romance by focusing less on its content or material than on its form or design a form, above all,
which simultaneously quests for and postpones a particular end, objective, or object (4). This is
the inescapable quality of romance its tendency to go on and on without regard for resolution. Her
study covers five centuries by exploring the implications of romance in the time and works of four
celebrated romantic poets: Aristo, Spenser, Milton, and Keats (7). Through this exploration of
individual authors and their works, Parker is able to offer suggestions of what, poetically, became
of them, their influence, and their significance within the variations of a recurrent mode. She is
able to accomplish this

Qohlab Reflection
I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message
Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part
this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB
version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found.
While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my
while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was
made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the
general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I
believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to
understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to
better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the
author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author
states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also,
the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that
Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their
point of view and from the wisdom

Example Of Credibility Essay
Credibility can be established before, during and after one s presentation. Establishing credibility
before a presentation can be achieved by making information available about your background or
have it done in an introduction. Likewise, credibility can be established during a presentation by
maintaining authenticity, being knowledgeable about the material, and speaking with confidence
(Cardon, P.. 2013). Lastly, credibility can be established after a presentation by following up with
audiencemembers over concerns or inquiries. Do so, shows empathy and character on behalf of the

Pros And Cons Of Aspartame
Aspartame Controversy
There has been much research and controversy about the chemical C14H18N205, aka aspartame.
Even though a large amount of research has been done on aspartame, most people are unaware of
the dangers. As consumers, it is important to educate ourselves on what the FDA is approving for
human consumption.
Aspartame is the most common and one of three alternative sweeteners in the United States which
can be found in more than 6,000 products and is consumed by more than 200 million people
around the world (Calorie Control, 2015). You will find these man made sweeteners in many
reduced calorie foods; such as, jams and jellies, powdered soft drinks, maple syrups, chewing
gum, juice blends, frozen desserts, cereals, hard candy and the most popular of products being
sodas. Aspartame is also seen in little pink packets of Sweet Low on restaurant tables. Besides
being found in vitamins its important use is in many low calorie and sugar free beverages and ...

Aspartic acid significantly raises the blood plasma shortly after ingesting aspartame which leads
to a high level of those neurotransmitters in certain areas of the brain. Too much of the toxin will
stimulate the brain cells to death. Many people are not aware of the many issues and problems
surrounding aspartame because they are not reported in the newspapers or on the news. This is
because the incidents happen one at a time across the U.S. and mainly because people do not
associate their symptoms with the long term use of aspartame.
The FDA has set its acceptable daily intake for aspartame at 50mg. A 12 ounce can of diet soda
contains 180mg of aspartame; and Americans consume approximately 200mg of aspartame daily.
Nutritionists recommend that it would be best to avoid any and all additives in foods, including
aspartame, as they are synthetic chemicals. Instead, choose sweeteners that you recognize as foods
such as honey, pure maple syrup, stevia and apple

Healthcare-Associated Infections
A hospital is a place where patients go to get medical or surgical treatment and most patients that
are admitted into hospitals or get checked up, usually already have an infection or illness of some
sort. Therefore, they are seen by a professional to treat or get rid of it. Doctors may treat the patient

Healthcare associated infections are infections that are spread around hospitals. According to

infections from any of the equipment used or from microbes and other sources. On the other hand,
outpatient centers do not have to check up on their patients. People go to outpatient centers to get

Medical Technicians and Paramedics. My admiration intensified when I was injured in a vehicle

ready at any moment of the day. To some, this may seem daunting or intimidating, but to me, it is
what makes the job exciting. It means that every day on the job I will encounter different
adventures and have chances to be as heroic and helpful as the EMT who helped me on the day of

Antigone And Creon Essay
The play Antigone has many complex and some not so complex characters and that is what
makes it very easy to create juxtapositions within and throughout the play. Creon was a very basic
character in the beginning of the play and proved to be a simple character that believed in one
thing that created conflicts. Others added on and together that is where dialogue in the play fills in
empty spaces in the play. Conflicts are what makes this play more interesting to the reader. The
biggest contrasting character is Creonbecause of the conflict that he has with Antigone. The line in
the second part of the play is the part that sets all the other parts up with depth or good future
dialogues Creon says He ll be left unburied, his body there for the birds and dogs to eat, a clear

Analysis Of Antigone By Sophocles
The name of the play I am summarizing is called Antigone by Sophocles, the genre of this play is

its just stories of his kids and their meetings with Theseus, the King of Athens. Antigonemain
properties of a Greek tragedy play would have to be the characters and the plot. Antigone ends up

used to have himself connected with art patronage. Haimon which is Kreon son and Antigone s

for her. Now for who I think the protagonist of the play is I would say Antigone, one main
reasoning being that is she sacrifices her life in order to fulfill her obligation. Yes, a lot of
people thought it would ve been Kreon because he got a lot more stage time than Antigone did

things should not be tried at all. ANTIGONE Go away, Ismene: I shall be hating you soon, and

Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls Essay
The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and
stereotypes in society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological
differences. While these biological differences and research show that there are small differences
in cognitive brain activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s
supposed to be (Pollitt 2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should
have permanently assigned roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist
wrote the essay Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times
Magazine. In the essay, she argues that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their
present, but it is feminism, the ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s
future (2549). Pollitt raises important ethical problems in her essay, genderroles and stereotyping.
Throughout her essay she provides several claims to her argument and builds credibility with her
audience by using rhetorical strategies. However, the argument also exhibits some minor flaws,
which could in return limit its persuasiveness. This analysis will identify Pollitt s three main claims
and the evidence she uses to support them. I argue that overall Pollitt provides an effective
argument by building her credibility and expanding her audience with the use of rhetorical
strategies, such as ethos, pathos,

Marriage for money It was really interesting to read in the account about how and why Ivan
married Praskovya. In my late British Literature class that I took in high school we talked about
a theme that occurred in many of the novels we read in class; this theme was the fact that many
people married for money rather than love. In our modern western society there is a notion that
every person marries their true love or soul mate and they live happily ever after that sometimes
we forget about the people who are in arranged marriages or others whose social ro economic
situations are so bad that their only choice is to marry for love. Then there are the people like
Ivan who got married to someone who fit the social class that he was trying to fit into. Ivan also
portrays the marriage characteristic of getting married solely because it the most socially
acceptable thing to do. Being a single man in his positon would have set him at a disadvantage
in the social class he was trying to fit into. This then starts to beg the question about the feelings
that Praskovya had after Ivan had died. The story tells us that they fought a lot and that neither of
them really loved one another, but does that mean that she wasn t as deeply affected by his death
as a loving wife would be. She shows a large interest in the fact that she needs to get as much
money out of the government due to her husband s death as possible, but is that all she is really

After the war most Americans were eager to turn back to their normal lives. Autoworkers and

Legal And Ethical Issues Of Computing
Introduction One of the most significant concern facing IT industry in the 21st century is legal,
social, ethical and professional issues that are associated with appropriate uses of technologies in
computing. During the implantation of the Greenwich Freecycling website, many of these issues
were encountered. By deploying the correct combination of technologies that is available when
implementing the website some of these issues were conquered and overcome. Legal and
ethical issues in computing are not as straight forward as one expects, these two comprehensive
concepts can be divided into many sub sections such as computer Ethics which is a moral
standard used as a guideline for computer users, Code of ethics is a guideline in ICT, intellectual
property is the own work that is created by individuals, privacy refers to the rights that individual
and companies have and how their data is collected and restricted to outside sources, computer
crime is an illegal act that involves computers and finally cyber law which is laws that are related
to helping protect the internet and other online communication. professional bodies are the
mechanisms to help improve professionalism of individuals within the IT industry, by increasing
the competence and the skills of these individuals it will help to promote a better understanding of
the legal and ethical issues and what can be done to enhance and solve these issues respectively.

American English Consonant And Vowel Inventories
A contrast of the Arabic vs. American English consonant and vowel inventories. Abdullah
Alshahrani Southern Illinois University Carbondale Abdullah34f@gmail.com A contrast of the
Arabic vs. American English consonant and vowel inventories. Introduction According to
Hillenbrand (2003) and Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), both the American English and Arabic
languages have diverse forms and dialects respectively. Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), highlight
the two main spoken Arabic dialects as Al Shaam (spoken in the greater Syria) and Arabic spoken
in Egypt (mainly focused at the University in Cairo and the Al Azhar mosque). Hillenbrand (2003)
gives two examples of American English dialects as the southern California dialect, and the dialect
for the Northern cities comprising cities in the northeast inland of the USA. As such, the phonetic
characteristics between the various forms or dialects of a language may vary. One phonetic
characteristic that might vary is the pronunciation. While language or communication can be
written, speech communication remains one of the main ways in which human beings express

Modernization Of A Poor Communist Country
Introduction China s thirty year run of almost 10% GDP growth is legendary and there are many
reasons for this phenomenal growth. The journey of a poor communist country of the 1950s to a
world economic superpower today reads like a novel comprised of economic plots and sub plots
along the way. After the establishment of the People s Republic of China in 1949, the country
started on the path to industrialisation in earnest. The hallmarks of industrialization were the
consolidation of socialist governance and increased control over the domestic migration of labour,
which paved the way for the administration of the planned economy. This dramatic system of
economic reform has benefited China in many ways. However, there are still a number of issues
which the country needs to address if it wants to maintain long term economic stability. 1952 to
1978 In the 1950s China had a meagre national growth rate of 3%. To speed up the industrialization
process the government increased investment in heavy industries such as steel, concrete and heavy
machinery. The growth that happened during this period was more a result of increase in physical
and human capital than an increase in productive efficiency. The production activities of State
enterprises were determined according to the government plan rather than market signals. The State
enterprises were inefficient, employed redundant workers (as mandated by the socialist state
system), and there was little market demand for the

Disadvantages Of Foreign Aid
Before we start talking and analyzing aid in all its dimensions, one has first to better understand
what aid represents in all its complicity. Beginning with the theories of aid during the last sanctuary,
we can say that different disciplines of theoreticians give diverse interpretations of the phenomenon
of foreign aid. The realists think that the most important dimension of aid is its purpose, especially
when it is used as an instrument of diplomacy. Given the assumption that states behave in an
anarchic environment, the realists see foreign aid as an instrument used to ensure state security,
protection of its political and economic interests. Therefore, taking into consideration that aid in this
case is given having donor`s interests at the core of motivation, its capability to achieve
developmental purposes are meagre. On the other hand, the Marxists school of thought and
postmodern tradition relates aid to the dependency theory by dividing foreign aid in tow group of
interesting party s. Moreover, they emphasize the world system theory through a dependency
relationship between a group of wealthy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foreign aid is offered for many purposes and ways and the dilemma of aid is not whether aid
works or not, but how and when varied instrument can be made to work better in different country
circumstances (Hansen and Tarp 2000, pp. 19 20). Another study conducted by Minoiu and
Reddy argues that aid matters for economical growth and it can contribute significantly, but only
specific kinds of aid have clear cut impact on growth and only in a long term. Overall, foreign aid
has a significant effect in those cases when it ranks high in the aid quality index while geopolitical
aid has been found with zero or negative effect on

Why Did Texas Fight In The Civil War Analysis
Texans struggled in the civil war, but worked very hard to earn everything. Nearly 65,000
soldiers served in civil war and 1 fifth of them died. This showed that Texans worked very hard.
Why did Texas fight in the civil war? Texans fought in the civil war because to protect states rights,
sectionalism and most important, slavery. Texans fought in the civil war because of the love for
Texas. In doc D, its says that John wesley Rabb was one of about 65000 soldiers who fought in
the war and that John got many wounds and scars from the war. The love John had for texas was
very strong because he wanted to fight for Texas and in the war for his people. Another reason

At a corporate level, Riordan Manufacturing is staged with senior staff support, employee
engagement and a financial budget to embrace an enterprise of sustainability changes. For
adherence, Riordan will ensure corporate governance of polices and processes are enhanced for
distribution of rights and responsibilities (Carpenter, Sanders. 2009). Performance monitoring will

When it comes to the financial barriers that will need to be overcame, there are a number of
ways to help gather enough revenue to undertake such a green work project. Let s face it, there
is going to a massive amount of capital that will need to be raised, in some form or fashion, to
ensure that the completion of the entire project will occur. First of all, there will need to be
major cutbacks in each department in many different ways. This will help to raise some of the
capital. One of the ways that this can be achieved is be the hiring of new employees through
temp services instead of hiring new employees themselves. By doing this, the cost of hourly
wages and salaries of management can be controlled and at a minimum. Another step that will
need to be taken is the instillation of green teams within each department of the entire plant. Each
department will need to come up with ways to move their own department towards being more
sustainable and focus on this in a major way. By doing this, Riordan will be able to cut cost down
quite a bit and free up some capital to have for the installation of the new sustainable business
practices that it is about to do. Lastly, it might be in their best

The Feminine Mystique And Shooting An Elephant
Both The Feminine Mystique and Shooting an Elephant discuss the confrontation between the self
and society. In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan addresses The Problem That Has No Name
referring to the widespread unhappiness of the housewife due to their obligation to uphold their
ideal image rather than pursuing their dreams; in Shooting an Elephant, George Orwellcomments on
the societal expectations of imperialism and its effects on people who have the duty to uphold the
law. In both of these texts, the confliction between societal norms and personal desires is
emphasized, and both Friedan and Orwell agree that one must surpass the fear of breaking society
s expectations and use personal wisdom to achieve what one believes is right.
In The Feminine Mystique, Friedan defines The Problem That Has No Name to be the
dissatisfaction and longing in suburban housewives which was not caused by a lack of
femininity but an excess of education and awareness. Society defined the suburban housewife as
the dream image of the young American woman and the envy...of women all over the world
(Friedan 60). Women were expected to make a career out of being housewives, which Friedan
found to be ridiculous. Women should not be confined to the home when they have the same
capabilities as men. By failing to speak out, these women allowed this idea of the ideal housewife
to become engraved into every American s mind, and this image of the ideal housewife did not
benefit women at all

Odysseus Influence On Homer s Odyssey
Think you re escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home
(James Joyce). A profound summary of the themes in Joyce s Ulysses, the quote above deals
with journey, escapism, identity, and nostalgia; all important parts of everyday life. Ulysses,
however, was far from the first literary work to deal with themes such as those. Indeed, the works
of Joyce, as well as Dante, Milton, and Virgil can be directly traced to the works of Homer,
specifically the Odyssey. One of the most translated, discussed, and taught literary works of all
time, the influence of Homer s Odyssey cannot be understated. Although Odysseuss journey is
magnificent and supernatural, the epic discusses the deeply personal struggles of one man, swept
up in forces beyond his control, as well as telling one of the first, if not the very first, coming of age
stories. The account of Odysseus and Telemachus deeply influenced not only western literature, but
also music and media. In addition, the Odyssey contains numerous insights into the culture of the
ancient Greeks, the originators of Western Culture as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story of Telemachus growing from a boy to a man and of Odysseus finding his way in a
cruel, absurd world will remain timeless because of its relatability, especially for college aged
people. The word odyssey has been adapted into the English language to mean a great journey. In
a way, every person on this earth experiences their own odyssey through life. To feel tossed about
by life s randomness and seeming cruelty while just trying to get by is part of the human condition.
By taking that feeling and making it fit a story containing gods, monsters, love, and war, Homer
created a work that not only influenced nearly all literature after, but a work that continues to be
relevant by its own

Relationships In The Poisonwood Bible
Father daughter relationships are commonly filled with unconditional love, but an adolescent s
complete devotion can be abused by an unfit parent. In Barbara Kingsolver s The Poisonwood
Bible, the devout baptist minister Nathan Price traverses the luscious African country of the Congo
along with his wife Orleanna and their four daughters: Rachel, Leah, Adah, and Ruth May. One of
the Price girls, Leah, is introduced as having an indescribable adoration for her disparaging dad.
However, as Leah matures into a young women, Nathan s racist, misogynistic, and all around
despicable acts turn what was once an affectionate worship for her father into an unaffected scorn.
The unique bond between Leah and Nathan Price exemplifies the developing relationship... Show

Deciding to fulfill her newfound passion for hunting with the tribesmen, Leah decided to flat
out disobey Nathan and proclaim she is going out with the men and that s final (340). Following
this encounter, Leah completely loses the excessive adoration she had for Nathan. As the
socially rebellious Leah grows older, she becomes aware of the systematic dependency she
willingly subscribed to. Nevertheless, Leah s disrespect towards her father comes as a sharp
contrast to the young teen who wanted nothing more than Nathan s approval. Reflecting on the
undeniable evils of her relationship with Kilanga, and more specifically, her parents, Leah wishes
she could reach backward somehow to give Father just one gift, it would be the simple human
relief of knowing you ve done wrong, and living through it (525). Ironically, the sorrowful Leah is
a carbon copy of her father, feeling the guilt of acts for which neither could feasibly stop within
their power. This unpalatable pain kills Leah as she is forced to live with the aftermath of the
deranged Nathan mentally abusing Leah, her mother, and her sisters, causing the grief stricken
Leah to take partial blame for the acts from which she fell victim of. In brief, Leah escapes the
unbreakable grasp Nathan held on her adolescent self by rebelling against not only

Nickel And Dimed Sociology
Throughout the novel Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, the author documents her journey
working on minimum wage and trying to live off of the low wages. She found that living on
minimum wage is a challenging task that requires sacrifice, dedication, hard work, and motivation
to live. Ehrenreich found that the life of a minimum wageworker is full of injustice and helps bring
to light the treatment and conditions for these people. She initially discovered that minimum wage
does not support a comfortable life, including adequate housing, medical care, and food. She
learned that these jobs are often physically demanding and require toughness to work them for
long periods of time. Lastly, she found that the application process is intrusive and more in depth
than necessary, she was subject to multiple drug tests and was treated poorly. Ehrenreich believed
that these were significant problem and she likely hoped her book could shed light on the true life

one or two cases and then only on weekends, with booze. Do the owners have any idea of the
misery that goes into rendering their homes motel perfect? (p.89)
This description exemplifies the physical struggle these jobs take and show that while they may be
simple, these jobs are physically difficult. She also shows that many cope with the pain through
painkillers and alcohol, both of which are an extra expense. Many do not think of these jobs as
difficult and Ehrenreich helps the reader understand that minimum wage jobs are very difficult and

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk Fighters Essay
The Curtiss P 40 Warhawk was a single engine, single seat, metal fighter plane and ground attack
aircraft that was made by the Americans. The P 40 Warhawk fighters first flew in 1938 and
caught the attention of the United States Army Air Corps, who placed the largest fighter plane
order it had ever made for fighters for a count of 524 at a cost of US$13 million. This was the
earliest serious fighter in WWII and did its job until better fighters came out. It was known as a
safe and secure aircraft that was able to fly pilots back home after being shot up in action. Many
variants of this plane were later created. In addition, the shark teeth graphics were a big feature on
this plane. The first flight of the XP40 was in Buffalo, NY by a man... Show more content on

A P 40 would out roll a Zero at high speeds, and a good P 40 pilot could use this to great effect if
the Zero pilot fell for it. Another thing was that for every good Zero model, the P 40 had a variant
that was faster. Therefore, the P 40 pilot could always break off an attack. The P 40, of course, had
an even greater advantage in diving speeds, with well over 400 miles per hour attainable with no
risk of damage to the planes strong airframe. Early Zero s couldn t hit 350 miles per hour without
the risk of damage to their plane. To get back on topic of the P 40 s design, the P 40 s rudder had
red, white, and blue stripes. The engine cowling had a large shark mouth and eye. There were
actually only 199 P 40s made. The rest were variants of it. The next step in the P 40 developmental
stage was the P 40A. The P 40A received a camera installation near the rear of the fuselage. The P
40B received a better protected fuel system to keep it from possibly being blown up. The P 40C
then was given the ability to carry bombs and received self sealing gas tanks. Less than 50 P 40 Ds
were made, and they basically got a complete overhaul. They had a completely redesigned canopy,
better cockpit, and all had two machine guns added, one in each wing and the distinctive chin air
scoop was made bigger so they could properly cool the large Allison engines .The P 40E and P 40

  • 2. Changes Of Climate Change Across Earth Hominins During the Pleistocene What is the Pleistocene? According to Understanding Humans: Introduction to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology, the Pleistocene, or the Ice Age, was a period 1.8 mya 10,000 ya marked by drastic fluctuations of climate change across Earth. The Pleistocene alternated between extreme periods of glaciations and interglacials. During glaciations, temperatures dropped drastically. In northern continents this drop in temperature led to mass accumulations of ice, measuring nearly a mile thick; however, these glaciers were not seen everywhere. In Africa, glaciations led to more arid and dry climates. Interglacials, on the other hand, were periods of warmer climate. During interglacials, climate would become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During both the Early Pleistocene and the Middle Pleistocene, we see a number of hominins that paved the way to modern human development (Boaz Ciochon, 2004). One of these hominins is Homo erectus (Lewis et al., 2013). According to Lewis (2013) while it is probable that they first developed developed in Africa, it also . . . seems likely that H. erectus first arose in East Africa and then very quickly migrated to other continents ; however, it is hard to prove this hypothesis as new fossils are found (p. 236). While H. erectus characteristics vary across continents, the majority share the same range in body size, brains, and cranial shape. H. erectus adults had robust bodies weighing more than 100 lbs. and measuring 5 6 tall. The range in H. erectus brain size is 700 to 1250 cm(^3). The most distinct characteristic of H. erectus is its cranial shape. The cranium displays a thick cranial bone, large brow ridges, a pointy nuchal torus at the posterior, low forehead development, a wide cranium base, and finally a sagittal keel (Lewis et al., 2013). According to The First Humans, environments during the Early Pleistocene fluctuated, but they tended to be more open and wet than the Pliocene environments before them. Thus, it was warmer. These open grassland environments yielded bulky, herding mammals. The First Humans also suggests the anatomy and physiology of H. erectus allowed for the endurance they needed in order to obtain these mammals for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hepatic Portal Vein Obstruction ( Ehpvo ) Introduction: Extra hepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO), i.e., in the absence of liver cirrhosis or abdominal cancer, is a rare manifestation of venous thrombosis that often leads to portal hypertension1.After prothrombin, factor V, next most common cause of thrombophilia is high plasma levels of coagulation factor VIII, which are present in approximately 20% of patients with deep vein thrombosis(DVT) of the lower limbs and increase the risk of the disease in a dose dependent manner 2. Like fibrinogen, factor VIII is an acute phase reactant whose concentration rises in plasma in the presence of inflammation. However, high factor VIII levels are associated with an increased risk of DVT independently of the acute phase reaction3. Case report: A 21 year old male in good health and with no significant past medical history presented with abdominal pain for 2 months in epigastric and left hypochondrium. He is not on any drugs. History of similar complaints in his younger sister and she died 2 years back without any evaluation. A contrast enhanced computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed superior mesenteric vein thrombosis with multiple collaterals in perigastric and porta hepatis. A coagulation profile work up was done. His factor VIII activity concentration was found to be 260% of normal (normal: 60 150). Analyses for prothrombin O20210A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Youth Apathy And Apathy A common sentiment among the older generations is that the youth of today have stopped caring. The youth of today are almost always disengaged with politics and world issues (K.), and it seems that apathy has taken hold of the new generation. However, youth apathy should not be blamed on the youth themselves, as this apathy comes from a culmination of pressures and circumstances beyond their control. This is due to popular shows promoting the message of apathy, the biology of young adults and teenagers, and the oversaturation of world issues in the media. Instead of pushing blame on youth for their apathetic leanings, it is time to examine the core of why youth begin to feel this way. The average youth spends 9 hours per day consuming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, in some teenagers it may be more than hormones. A study by Oxford University found that [it may be] more of an effort for apathetic people to turn decisions into actions ( Brain ). As such, some adolescents may be biologically predisposed to apathy, as it takes them more time to make decisions than their more engaged counterparts. To summarise, the problem of apathy among youth comes from the youth s biology. The prevalence of negative news within the media has also become detrimental to the engagement of youth. The exposure to negative media within the news can cause teenagers to experience a large amount of emotional distress, sometimes leading to the development of post traumatic stress disorder (Pollard). As such, adolescents bombarded by negative news may become too overwhelmed by the news that they view, thus causing them to prefer escapism to activism. A survey from Times Mirror shows that while more people think the news is too full of violence, fewer people today than in the 1980 s believe that the news exaggerates the amount of violence in America (Clark). Thusly, as people believe that the news, though full of violence, does not exaggerate this violence, adolescents surrounded by this news may begin to feel overwhelmed by the negativity, and will stop caring. Overall, the perceived prevalence of negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparison Between Community Quilts And The Quilt Comparison of community quilts The quilt that was created to represent my community encompassed the people and things that are central to my life. As a recent transplant to Colorado, I have not developed a strong sense of community so I have become accustomed to my family supports that are located throughout United States. First I would like to explain some images and symbols in my quilt which will help with the comparison of the community quilt made for the Strive Smart Preparatory School. My quilt has the central figures of my daughter and I, whom I hold dearly and is the most important person in my life. The surrounding images are my love of travel, seeing parts of the world that I always dreamed about and my curiosity of other cultures. The image of a chameleon is a trait of my personality and the ability to adapt to different environments and challenges. The dragon slayer is an ultra ego figure that I envision myself as being courageous; there are two figures in the image, which I see my daughter (Chelsea) as being with the aid of her mother. The two images of a hutch back and graphic of China devouring the world is my artwork, created to express opinions of environmental destruction, which is further convey by the Apple symbol at the top with the green leaves budding from the earth. Lastly is the symbol for my love of music. I grew up listening to a wide range of music from classic rock to rhythm and blues (R B). I appreciate having listened to a good base of music ... With a Ph.D. from Yale University, Zimbardo specializes and focuses on several areas such as terrorism, madness and evil. Zimbardo is most well known for the infamous Stanford Prison Study that was carried out in 1971. The experiment tested college students and their tendency to attribute the causes of their behavior to personal factors and the chances of underestimating the influence of situational conditions. The aim of his experiment was to reveal how social roles might influence a person s behavior. Twenty four college students were asked to role play as prisoners (twelve) and guards (twelve) for a course of two weeks. By the sixth day of the experiment, Zimbardo (superintendent) had to stop the whole study due to the lack of ethical consideration. • 13. The Value Of Waste Control Mass customization of products has become a common approach in manufacturing organizations. Explain the ways in which mass customization can be applied to service firms as well. In many ways mass customization has always been a factor that service firms have necessarily embraced. The intangible business of dealing with people directly and providing services is by nature customized to individuals involved in the transaction(s). What mass customization of products in manufacturing contexts can provide to service organizations by way of example; are the models of lean manufacturing, kaizen and organizational structure. Lean manufacturing teaches the value of waste control, kaizen frames continuous improvement and the common factor between these approaches is highly trained employees (Daft, 2016). Highly trained employees who are empowered and versed in both technical aspects and soft skill aspects of customer interaction; best support a service organization. A service organization employee has to be able to address customized requests at each interaction, which is why service firms are labor and knowledge intensive (Daft, 2016, p. 273) when compared to the product focus of a manufacturing firm. Although there is that clear difference in focus (or expenditure) between a manufacturing organization and a service organization, an organic structure is most applicable for both. David Daley, in his book of the same name, describes Republicans incentives in 2010 to take control of state legislatures and control congressional redistricting processes. Republicans were then able to take redistrict in favor of a republican controlled congress being elected. This plan was entitled The Redistricting Majority Project or REDMAP (Daley 2016). After the 2008 election, the future of the Republican Party looked grim. Obama took Republican strongholds like Virginia and North Carolina and Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate during the election. Chris Jankowski, a member of the Republican State Leadership Committee, came up with a plan to help the Republicans gain control of the state legislatures. He realized the importance of the 2010 mid term elections with the upcoming census, whichever party controlled the state legislatures got to control the redistricting process for congressional districts in 42 of 50 states (Daley 2016). Jankowski had $30 million dollars to invest in states that Republicans could control both governors office and the legislature. His REDMAP team would create priority lists of swing states, to state houses, and finally to state senates that they had to win. Republicans focused their time and energy on areas that they believed that they could swing red or keep red by calling, sending mail, billboards, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Honorable In Julius Caesar What makes someone honorable or corrupt? Webster defines honorable as deserving of respect or high regard. Webster also defines corrupt as to change from good to bad in morals, manners, or action. Honor is doing something for moral excellence. Being dishonorable or corrupt is flaunting one s own abilities for completing a deed. Who comes to mind when you think honorable? Who comes to mind when you think corrupt? Everyone has a different opinion for who is honorable and who is dishonorable or corrupt. Titinus responds respectfully, O Cassius, Brutus gave the word too early, Who, having some advantage on Octavius, Took it too eagerly. His soldiers fell to spoil, Whilst we by Antony are all enclosed (Shakespeare 5.3.5 8). Titinius is now correcting Cassius in a nice way saying that Brutus has already sent the troops to surprise attack, but they left. This kind of explanation from Titinius shows us he is respectful, and he is not showing off to Cassius. The next and final reason why I feel that Titinius is the most honorable is the loyalty he has. Titinius shows loyalty in the most brave way. He is so loyal to Cassius that when he finds himself at Cassius s body, he kills himself. Some would say he is completely crazy, but others say this is loyal and the thing to do. In my opinion, Titinius is very loyal to Cassius, and I would commend him for that. As a result, I find Cassius honorable for being obedient, a fearless man, and a loyal soldier. Just as Titinius most honorable character in the play, from my perspective, Octavius is the most dishonorable. Octavius is the son of Caesar. Octavius should have set a better example from the beginning. Octavius is dishonorable because he is very destructive. A Literary Analysis of Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War The Chocolate War is a story which takes place in New England in the 1970 s. Most of the events happen in a Catholic school. Archie reminds Jerry that he is only to decline for ten days. Jerry continues to disobey. He is committing ultimate betrayal; he is intentionally ignoring the orders of The Vigils. Archie and Jerry become enemies, and they continuously quarrel. Archie finally orders a fight between Emile, a Vigil wannabe, and Jerry. One minor conflict is between Jerry and his unresolved feelings toward his mother s death. These feelings, I felt, were mainly the reason he did not take the chocolates. Jerry is looking for a change in his life; a change to get him away from thinking of his mother. Another minor conflict is between Obie and Archie. Obie feels that he is always taking blame for Archie s doings. If Archie fails then Obie takes blame. If Archie succeeds then Archie gets the credit. Obie becomes angrier with each assignment Archie gives out.

Cement, Neopolymer and Similar Compositions 2.Conventional cement The function of cement is for isolating production zone and to provide support for the casing [11].Portland cement is made up of calcium oxide (CaO), silicon dioxide (SiO) and water (H2O) which the composition of calcium carbonate is around 75 80 wt% and 20 25 wt% of clay [7],[14].. Compressive strength of Portland cement is developed through hydration. Hydration is chemical reaction between water and cement compound. The rheology and early strength of cement is developed from reaction of aluminate compound at the beginning of hydration. Rate of hydration can be control by adding gypsum. It is for preventing the premature hardening of cement. Gypsum will react with aluminate and hydroxyl ion to form ettrigate. Ettrigate will prevent hydration process by forming needle shaped crystal on the aluminate and creating induction period [11]. Some addictive can be added to the cement to enhance the properties of cement. In paragraph 1, the color of the whole environment is grey. The combination of the black and white spot of the puupy is grey. The tension between the night and morning depicts the life. Life is often compared to the stages of the day dawn (infant), morning (adulthood), noon (man), dusk (near death) and night (death). It is a contradiction that the puppy died in the dawn and not in the dusk or evening. It suugest that life is unfair, we could die in unexpected way like what happen to the puppy, existed from dawn to morning and eventually when sunrise came the puppy dies. The black and white spots also symbolize the yin yang principle. Two halves that together complete wholeness. Yin and yangare also the starting point for change. When something is whole, by definition it is unchanging and complete. So when you split something into two halves yin / yang, it upsets the equilibrium of wholeness. This starts both halves chasing after each other as they seek a new balance with each other. The word Yin comes out to mean shady side and Yang sunny side .Yin Yang is the concept of duality forming a whole. While there are several districts that teach in the traditional sense, there has been a steady incline as to the amount of school districts across the world that are switching to iPads and other electronic devices to aide in the pupil s education. Depending on the administrators, students are allowed to bring their devices to the classroom (BYOD, Bring Your Own Device), while other districts receive grants and other types of funding to purchase a technology device for each student. Instead of both sexes being equal, males have had the shorter end of the stick. (Department for Education and Skills, 2003) When the schools were able to integrate the Apple iPads, researchers and observers noticed that the male s scores were able to increase to the average girl s score. A huge concern was the fact that male s were slowly but surely falling behind in their academics. Although this does not prove that the money spent on this expedition has been worth their while, it does improve many student s participation and interest in the academic department. (McPhee Marks, 2013) One crucial and possible setback, if not closely monitored and taken into consideration is the fact that some teachers do not want the Apple iPads integrated into their teaching techniques. (Hong Kong Government, 2009) Yet, related debates have not ended. While some citizens oppose to the construction of this rail link, the government and few others insist that the project will be beneficial to Hong Kong. However, this essay argues that XRL should not be built because it is not, both economically and socially, beneficial to our city. It seems that the express rail link will provide huge benefits to the economy and society of Hong Kong. With 100,000 passengers flow projected by the government, XRL is said to bring various benefits to the city. (Hong Kong Government, 2009). The government claims that XRL can further enhance the exchange and cooperation between Mainland and Hong Kong economically and socially. As a result of such closer tie with Mainland, Hong Kong will enjoy an $87 billion benefit from time saved by passengers, more investment from the Mainland, and also, about 21,000 job opportunities. Overall, Yet, the above expectation on XRL may be overly optimistic. It is likely that the rail will face fierce competition from its counterparts. My Virtual Child Experience The virtual child stimulation is an online program that offers students a feel of what it is like to raise a child and make parenting decisions concerning that child. Students also learn about the situations that occur in the three main life stages, and see how their decisions determine how their child will turn out. The focus of this assignment will be on my virtual child, Jason, the problems that occurred in the life stages, and the options I chose when raising Jason. In the Infant/Toddler stage, an incident occurred while we were visiting a relative who owned a pool. I tried to keep an eye on Jason, but got distracted. I heard a splash, and ran outside to the pool to find Jason sinking below the surface. I grabbed him and pulled him to safety. I checked to see if he had swallowed any water, dried him off with a towel, and calmed him down. After this incident, I was presented with three options. The first option was to speak firmly to him about staying away from pools so it would make a big impression. The second option was to resolve to having Jason wear a safety vest whenever he is around pools. The third option was to decide to enroll Jason in toddler swimming lessons, which emphasize safety, holding your breath, swimming to the edge of the pool, and holding on. I chose the third option. I felt it necessary to sign him up for toddler swimming lessons. Studies show that registering your child in a swimming class to learn how to swim helps reduces the risk of childhood ... • 25. Patricia Parker s Inescapable Romance Analysis Review of Patricia Parker s Inescapable Romance Parker, Patricia A. Inescapable Romance: Studies in the Poetics of a Mode. Princeton University, 2016. x, 290p. Romance is a literary term that has remained shrouded in a cloak of ambiguity for centuries. Many scholars and critics believe that this is due to the frequent redefinition of the term by those attempting to use it as a genre, mode, or style to enhance their work. Due to this obscurity, a study in the poetics of romance is an extensive task that is frequently avoided but desperately needed. Patricia Parker, a professor of English and dramatic literature at Stanford University, eagerly accepts this task in her work Inescapable Romance: Studies in the Poetics of a Mode. Parker sets out to approach romance by focusing less on its content or material than on its form or design a form, above all, which simultaneously quests for and postpones a particular end, objective, or object (4). This is the inescapable quality of romance its tendency to go on and on without regard for resolution. Her study covers five centuries by exploring the implications of romance in the time and works of four celebrated romantic poets: Aristo, Spenser, Milton, and Keats (7). Through this exploration of individual authors and their works, Parker is able to offer suggestions of what, poetically, became of them, their influence, and their significance within the variations of a recurrent mode. She is able to accomplish this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Qohlab Reflection I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found. While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also, the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their point of view and from the wisdom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls Essay The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and stereotypes in society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological differences. While these biological differences and research show that there are small differences in cognitive brain activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s supposed to be (Pollitt 2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should have permanently assigned roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist wrote the essay Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times Magazine. In the essay, she argues that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their present, but it is feminism, the ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s future (2549). Pollitt raises important ethical problems in her essay, genderroles and stereotyping. Throughout her essay she provides several claims to her argument and builds credibility with her audience by using rhetorical strategies. However, the argument also exhibits some minor flaws, which could in return limit its persuasiveness. In my late British Literature class that I took in high school we talked about a theme that occurred in many of the novels we read in class; this theme was the fact that many people married for money rather than love. In our modern western society there is a notion that every person marries their true love or soul mate and they live happily ever after that sometimes we forget about the people who are in arranged marriages or others whose social ro economic situations are so bad that their only choice is to marry for love. Then there are the people like Ivan who got married to someone who fit the social class that he was trying to fit into. Ivan also portrays the marriage characteristic of getting married solely because it the most socially acceptable thing to do. Being a single man in his positon would have set him at a disadvantage in the social class he was trying to fit into. This then starts to beg the question about the feelings that Praskovya had after Ivan had died. The story tells us that they fought a lot and that neither of them really loved one another, but does that mean that she wasn t as deeply affected by his death as a loving wife would be. UAW applied the strike tactic and kept making gains, starting from a minimum wage, then to reduction in assembly line speed, rules respecting seniority and fair pay for overtime work. After the war most Americans were eager to turn back to their normal lives. Autoworkers and UAW leaders pushed to secure a standard of living that would allow its members to earn a fair sum of money considering market inflationary pressures. In 1948, UAW and GM agreed that the cost of living would be one consideration for future salary raises, helping protect purchasing power of its employees. Then came the pension benefits that were standardized for all workers. Japanese counterparts have been able to remain out of these lifetime benefits, as they haven t been around that long in the United States, therefore avoiding these extensive legacy costs, which were implemented immediately after World War II. Further these Japanese producers formed their own in house labor unions away from the super powerful UAW overpricing and belligerence. The new changes that have come via voluntary bankruptcy proceedings, allows new management and radical changes in the normal operations. Abdullah Alshahrani Southern Illinois University Carbondale Abdullah34f@gmail.com A contrast of the Arabic vs. American English consonant and vowel inventories. Introduction According to Hillenbrand (2003) and Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), both the American English and Arabic languages have diverse forms and dialects respectively. • 43. Modernization Of A Poor Communist Country Introduction China s thirty year run of almost 10% GDP growth is legendary and there are many reasons for this phenomenal growth. The journey of a poor communist country of the 1950s to a world economic superpower today reads like a novel comprised of economic plots and sub plots along the way. After the establishment of the People s Republic of China in 1949, the country started on the path to industrialisation in earnest. The hallmarks of industrialization were the consolidation of socialist governance and increased control over the domestic migration of labour, which paved the way for the administration of the planned economy. This dramatic system of economic reform has benefited China in many ways. However, there are still a number of issues which the country needs to address if it wants to maintain long term economic stability. 1952 to 1978 In the 1950s China had a meagre national growth rate of 3%. To speed up the industrialization process the government increased investment in heavy industries such as steel, concrete and heavy machinery. The growth that happened during this period was more a result of increase in physical and human capital than an increase in productive efficiency. The production activities of State enterprises were determined according to the government plan rather than market signals. The State enterprises were inefficient, employed redundant workers (as mandated by the socialist state system), and there was little market demand for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Disadvantages Of Foreign Aid Before we start talking and analyzing aid in all its dimensions, one has first to better understand what aid represents in all its complicity. Beginning with the theories of aid during the last sanctuary, we can say that different disciplines of theoreticians give diverse interpretations of the phenomenon of foreign aid. The realists think that the most important dimension of aid is its purpose, especially when it is used as an instrument of diplomacy. Given the assumption that states behave in an anarchic environment, the realists see foreign aid as an instrument used to ensure state security, protection of its political and economic interests. Therefore, taking into consideration that aid in this case is given having donor`s interests at the core of motivation, its capability to achieve developmental purposes are meagre. Let s face it, there is going to a massive amount of capital that will need to be raised, in some form or fashion, to ensure that the completion of the entire project will occur. First of all, there will need to be major cutbacks in each department in many different ways. This will help to raise some of the capital. One of the ways that this can be achieved is be the hiring of new employees through temp services instead of hiring new employees themselves. By doing this, the cost of hourly wages and salaries of management can be controlled and at a minimum. Each department will need to come up with ways to move their own department towards being more sustainable and focus on this in a major way. • 47. The Feminine Mystique And Shooting An Elephant Both The Feminine Mystique and Shooting an Elephant discuss the confrontation between the self and society. In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan addresses The Problem That Has No Name referring to the widespread unhappiness of the housewife due to their obligation to uphold their ideal image rather than pursuing their dreams; in Shooting an Elephant, George Orwellcomments on the societal expectations of imperialism and its effects on people who have the duty to uphold the law. In both of these texts, the confliction between societal norms and personal desires is emphasized, and both Friedan and Orwell agree that one must surpass the fear of breaking society s expectations and use personal wisdom to achieve what one believes is right. In The Feminine Mystique, Friedan defines The Problem That Has No Name to be the dissatisfaction and longing in suburban housewives which was not caused by a lack of femininity but an excess of education and awareness. Society defined the suburban housewife as the dream image of the young American woman and the envy...of women all over the world (Friedan 60). Women were expected to make a career out of being housewives, which Friedan found to be ridiculous. Women should not be confined to the home when they have the same capabilities as men. By failing to speak out, these women allowed this idea of the ideal housewife to become engraved into every American s mind, and this image of the ideal housewife did not benefit women at all ... A profound summary of the themes in Joyce s Ulysses, the quote above deals with journey, escapism, identity, and nostalgia; all important parts of everyday life. Ulysses, however, was far from the first literary work to deal with themes such as those. Indeed, the works of Joyce, as well as Dante, Milton, and Virgil can be directly traced to the works of Homer, specifically the Odyssey. One of the most translated, discussed, and taught literary works of all time, the influence of Homer s Odyssey cannot be understated. Although Odysseuss journey is magnificent and supernatural, the epic discusses the deeply personal struggles of one man, swept up in forces beyond his control, as well as telling one of the first, if not the very first, coming of age stories. The account of Odysseus and Telemachus deeply influenced not only western literature, but also music and media. The P 40 Warhawk fighters first flew in 1938 and caught the attention of the United States Army Air Corps, who placed the largest fighter plane order it had ever made for fighters for a count of 524 at a cost of US$13 million. This was the earliest serious fighter in WWII and did its job until better fighters came out. It was known as a safe and secure aircraft that was able to fly pilots back home after being shot up in action. Many variants of this plane were later created. The P 40, of course, had an even greater advantage in diving speeds, with well over 400 miles per hour attainable with no risk of damage to the planes strong airframe. Early Zero s couldn t hit 350 miles per hour without the risk of damage to their plane. To get back on topic of the P 40 s design, the P 40 s rudder had red, white, and blue stripes. The engine cowling had a large shark mouth and eye. There were actually only 199 P 40s made. The rest were variants of it. The next step in the P 40 developmental stage was the P 40A. The P 40A received a camera installation near the rear of the fuselage. The P 40B received a better protected fuel system to keep it from possibly being blown up. The P 40C then was given the ability to carry bombs and received self sealing gas tanks. Less than 50 P 40 Ds were made, and they basically got a complete overhaul.
