2. The Problem
THE PROBLEM STARTS EARLY
Less than 15% of girls show an interest in STEM
at the critical ages between 4th-8th grade.
AND ONLY GETS WORSE
Women currently represent less than 25% of the STEM workforce
Latinas represent only 2% of employed scientists and engineers.
3. The Potential
WE CAN INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION!
Students who show interest in STEM by eighth grade can be 3X more likely
to later pursue degrees in STEM fields.
4. The DIY Solution
EXPLORE. MAKE. INNOVATE
We increase girls’ interest in STEM [ science, technology, engineering and math ]
by providing hands-on educational experiences. DIY Girls after-school programming,
summer camps and workshops encourage engagement with technology,
promote self-confidence and support aspiration to STEM careers.
5. The DIY Girl
A confident maker who can
design, build, and create her own future!
*Programming starts in 5th grade and we plan to grow with our girls.
6. The Reach
Our goal is to establish continuum of STEM programming for girls
from grades 5 - 12th that builds confidence and positive life choices.
7. The Vision
100% of DIY Girls who have participated in at least two years of programs
will graduate from high school and 85% will apply to college.
8. The Opportunity
Each partnership at DIY Girls is unique and customizable based on the impact you are seeking to create.
10. “Sexism is everywhere...it’s almost as if boys rule the world.
But the worlds changed. So how do we get more girls to do this?
And if they see us able to build things, they’ll know we can do it too.
We can change things.” - Sophia Caloca
