Spirited Away Shintoism
In the film, Spirited Away, there were many references displayed in regards to the Japanese culture of
Shintoism. A major aspect of Shintoism is the belief in the kami (divine beings). They also include
spirits that embody natural forces like wind and fire, animals, or an aspect of admiring landscape, such
as mountains or waterfalls. Even regular human beings can ultimately be revered as kami after death
as long as they lived a pure life. In Spirited Away, purity is one of the main themes prevalent
throughout the film. When the characters in the film resort themselves to greed, they are punished with
dire consequences. For example, Chihiro s parents were starving when they arrived to the abandoned
theme park and smelled an aroma of delicious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, once Chihiro is in the strange world, Haku warns her to not make a noise so no one would find
out that she s a human. Once revealed that she is human, people are startled and start to cause a riot
(17:30). The audience doesn t know what s going on or what to think of the spirits. Are they good or
evil? For instance, Zeniba and Yubaba are twin sisters, yet they contrast so much in evil and good.
Zeniba is good, while Yubaba is bad. Nonetheless, they do not stick to one personality as the mean
Yubaba shows love and affection towards her child, and the good Zeniba curses Haku. This causes
confusion in the audience and leaves them questioning who s good and who s evil. Also, No Face and
the River spirit were both not good spirits in the beginning, but lo and behold, they turned out to be
good at the end under their facade. Spirited Away leaves both good and evil spirits to coexist, as they
create harmony and advocate peace. Another key point, Yubaba stripped away Chihiro s true name,
including Haku s, upon gaining employment at the bathhouse. In order for Chihiro to recover
continuity with her past, she must create a new identity. Throughout her spiritual journey, Chihiro has
overcome her problems and the problems of others. At the end of the movie, when her parents mention
that the big move must be scary for her, Chihiro

The Common Endocrine System Malignancy
The most common endocrine system malignancy in the Unites States is thyroid cancer. The majority
of diagnosed thyroid cancers are classified as differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). More specifically,
these cancers are either papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) or follicular thyroid cancers (FTC), with 80.2%
being diagnosed as papillary and 11.4% as follicular (Avram, 2012). DTC is the fifth most common
cancer among females and has ten year survival rates of 97% for PTC and 94% for FTC (Khan et al.,
2015; Marcus, Whitworth, Surasis, Pai, Subramaniam, 2014). The majority of patients diagnosed with
DTC receive a near total or total thyroidectomy. Some patients also have lymph nodes or surrounding
tissue removed as well dependent on metastases (Avram, 2012). After removal of the thyroid gland,
patients can undergo radiographic scintigraphy in the nuclear medicine department to obtain
functional and anatomical information. Imaging the patient after the administration of I 123 or I 131
can identify precise locations of radioactivity in the entire body, which can identify distant metastases
or any remaining thyroid tissue. The size and location of radioactivity can influence whether doctors
chooses surgical excision, radioactive iodine therapy (RAI), or external radiation therapy for those
areas. Planar imaging has a sensitivity of 41%, specificity of 68%, and an accuracy of 61% compared
to SPECT imaging having rates of 45%, 89%, and 78%. With the combining of SPECT/CT,

Golden Age Of Piracy Essay
Imagine sailing the seven seas looking for ships to plunder and cities to barricade. This was the life of
many sailors back during the Golden Age of piracy. Although many sailors lived their life as pirates,
some were actually privateers and were mistaken for pirates. Privateers were like pirates, but instead
of raiding for personal gain they did it for the sake of their country. They did not perform gruesome
executions and did not always stay at sea like other pirates. Pirates on the other hand were usually ex
privateers that realized there was more money in pirating. Pirates during the Golden Age of Piracy
often lived a very wealthy lifestyle due to all of the loot they stole off of ships. Most pirates during
this era stayed around what is now called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost all pirate crews followed a universal code known as the pirate s code. This code was used like
the Ten Commandments but for pirates. The pirate s code decided what happened to traitors and
thieves along with what happened to men that brought women aboard the ship. The pirate s code
although universal differed from crew to crew. Before a pirate ship left port all pirates collaborated
and signed a document called the articles of agreement, also known as the pirates code (Johnson). This
ensured anything that happened at sea would be followed by the code. Whether the culprit be the
captain or a lowly deck cleaner, the code made sure peace was kept upon the ship. Piracy always had
to have laws since most people on the ship were criminals. In the end, pirates served a critical role in
the development of America. Without them Britain might have won the war of 1812 and taken over in
America. Whether it is roaming the seven seas or barricading town, pirates lived adventurous lives
that people can only dream about living today. As Hamill Chris quotes Blackbeard in his Book of
Pirates, Life s pretty good, and why wouldn t it be? I m a pirate after

The Leadership Characterities Of King Richard II
We were not born to sue, but to command (Bevington, 2014). King Richard II was born to rule
England. He came from a long line of English leaders. King Richard II played a very important part
by leading his country and serving his country in their military. Early during King Richard II s reign as
king he seemed to be doing great, but he soon took a drastic downward turn. He was betrayed from
within his own family. King Richard II was born to be a leader, but his strong presence in the military
would eventually become his downfall.
To better establish the personal attributes and leadership qualities of King Richard II, his background
must first be understood. He was born in England in the year 1367 and ruled England from 1377 to
1399 (Saul, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Already knowing how and why he had lost the country, he had yet obtained the knowledge as to who
he had lost the country to. When he returned from Ireland, he saw that his cousin Henry Bolingbroke
had taken his throne. Henry Bolingbroke had been waiting for the right time to step in and take the
throne from King Richard II. While King Richard II was away at war, Henry Bolingbroke sought the
perfect opportunity to take his place on the throne. He could take over and lead the country that he
thought was rightfully his. Bolingbroke s motives are also often called unclear. He has no monologues
that demonstrate his ambition ever to become king in the course of the play... (Lighterfeld, 2016).
People believed that Henry Bolingbroke had not clearly stated that he was out for the throne during
the play, but from what he does the way he acts after I believe that he was clearly out for the throne.
After all, are not all royal families depicted as thirsty for their crown of fame, ruling a country desiring
to be a king. Henry Bolingbroke wants to be a better king and truly believes that he can take the throne
and rule a better country then his cousin. While King Richard II thinks otherwise, Strives Bolingbroke
to be as great as we? Greater he shall not be... (Bevington, 2014). King Richard II was definitely bitter
about Henry Bolingbroke taking the throne away from him. Even though he had done an awful job at
reigning over the country himself and truly should not be judging someone for the way they will reign,
he did. Henry Bolingbroke did ask for King Richard II to feel that way towards him when he stepped
in and took over the throne behind his own cousin s back. In a deranged sort of way, I feel it is very
normal for someone to feel and maybe even hope that the person that betrayed them would

Informative Essay About Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves...
Neil postman was a jack of all trades, he was an American Author, an educator at New York
University, media theorist, and cultural critic. (PressThink 1) In 1985 Neil Postman published a book
called Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourage in the Age of show Business. The book
provides a look at what happens when politics, journalism, education and even religion become
subject to the demands of entertainment. In his book Amusing Ourselves to Death Postman says that
the content of a culture is contained in its communication, and that the content of communication is
affected by the medium of communication. In other words, Postman is saying that a culture is defined
by its connection of people, and the connection of people is afflicted by technology. Sherry Turkle is
another author that has written a book called Alone Together published in January 2011. Sherry Turkle
is an award winning professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she focuses her
research on human technology interaction. Alone Together is the results of Turkle s nearly fifteen year
exploration of our lives with technology, she describes new unsettling relationships between friends,
family, parents and children, and new instabilities in how we understand privacy and community.
There is a third author named Julia Angwin that has developed a book that connects with Postman s
argument. Julia Angwin is an award winning investigative journalist at a news organization called
ProPublica. (About)

Similarities Between South Korea And The United States
South Korea and the United States have different ideas on a lot of things. Looking into South Korea s
way of life puts a different perspective on how someone across the world lives their life a little
differently than me, even though they could be in the same financial state. My research will look at the
comparison of their family and social life, Government, Religion, education, economy and health
care, and how it differs from the U.S. The U.S. Population is 318.9 million and South Korea s 50.22

being 78.74 years old. There is a lot less free time in South Korea with people working an average of
2071 hours and here an average of 1788 hours. The unemployment rate there is also a lot smaller than
here with there being all kinds of jobs for any level of work experience. South Korea has gone through

Sieve Analysis Test Lab Report
INTRODUCTION Aggregate is one of the basic constituents of concrete. Its quality is of considerable
importance because about three quarter of the volume of concrete is occupied by aggregates. One of
the physical properties of aggregate that influence the property of concrete is the grading of aggregate.
The grading of aggregate defines the proportions of particles of different size in the aggregate. The
grading of fine (size lt; 5 mm) and coarse (size gt; 5 mm) aggregates are generally required to be
within the limits specified in BS 882: 1992. OBJECTIVE The objective of this experiment is to obtain
the grading curve for both fine and coarse aggregate. APPARATUS 1. Balance balance or scale used

4. The sample was placed on the top sieve and the sieves was agitated by mechanical sieve shaker for
a sufficient period so that after completion, not more than one percent by weight of the residue on any
individual sieve will pass that sieve. 5. The weight of each size increment was determined by
weighing the residue contained on each sieve. This has be done in a cumulative fashion by starting
with the smallest, particles in the bottom pan. After this weight has been determined, the next larger
particles was added into the same pan and the cumulative weight was determined. Coarse Aggregate 1.
A representative sample was chosen by quartering (according to BS 812: Part 102: 1984) or by use of
a sample splitter (Fig. 2C1 3). The sample to be tested should be the approximate weight desired when
dry. For this experiment, about 3 kilograms of coarse aggregate was weighed. 2. The procedure no. 2

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) Essay
The time that they should be spending to be better members of our community is therefore spent in
dealing with unrealistic means of decreasing false anxiety and impractical fears. Thus, it is very
important for people with obsessive compulsive disorders to seek treatment to help them ease
symptoms and become more effective in their daily lives.
Treatment for OCD
OCD treatment may not always result to cure, however, it can become a big help in decreasing and
controlling symptoms so that they will no longer affect our daily lives. Some OCD sufferers may need
a lifetime treatment to keep the disorder in control.
A person with obsessive compulsive disorder may choose between two main treatments: medications
and psychotherapy. Though you can choose which one of them suits your needs best, a combination of
the two is often found to be most effective in dealing with OCD symptoms.
Medications
Psychiatric medications tremendously helps in controlling obsessions and compulsions among
patients. Usually, antidepressants are used first to treat the symptoms before proceeding to another line
of medications if antidepressants do not work.
It is important that the antidepressant you take is prescribed by a health care professional and is
approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as drugs for OCD treatment. Usual
medications that may be prescribed are:
Sertraline for children 6 years and older, and for adults
Fluoxetine for children 7 years and older, and for adults

Professional Advocacy In Clinical Mental Health
The role of Professional advocacy according to Chapter 5: Professional and Social Advocacy in
Clinical Mental Health is to ensure that people have enough information to ensure that they can make
decisions and choices for themselves. It also refers to action taken to advance the profession of
counseling in general and the clinical a mental health profession specifically. Both professional
advocacy and client/social advocacy are essential to mental health counseling, to ensure that every
individual has an opportunity to resources such as health care and employment, and to achieve optimal
mental health (Chang, Crethar, Ratts, 2010). Advocating for the elderly who experience being released

Casey At The Bat Figurative Language
Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in 1888 is a dramatic narrative poem by Ernest
Lawrence Thayer. Casey at the Bat is a ballad of thirteen stanzas documenting a baseball game
between an unnamed opponent and Mudville. The game is coming to an end and Mudville is losing
four to two and the upcoming hitters are especially bad. By a miracle the batters reach base and bring
the best player to bat. The win is just out of reach when Casey strikes out and loses them the game.
Thayer uses figurative language, characterization, and choice of speaker to show the theme of men
and masculinity. By giving Casey all the qualities of a super masculine sports hero, and then having
him fail, Thayer makes us question whether or not those traits truly lead to success. ... Show more

both give the crowd a violent feel with the use of symbolism. The crowds should be full of hope and
optimism when Casey comes to bat however they give a sense of doom and gloom with Thayer s
choice of diction. He uses words like rumbled, knocked, recoiled, and rattled. It is almost like the fans

After the abolishment of Slavery by President Lincoln, previous slaves were now able to live their

difficulties were their white neighbors. While African American were making their ways by earning

Walmart Management And Strategy Of Walmart Essay
In 2014, Walmart announced a new president and CEO, Doug McMillion. McMillion had the duty of
taking over the world s largest company in respect to revenue, $473 billion, and the world s largest
private employer, 2.2 million associates. As it turned out, under McMillion s leadership, in 2015
Walmart experienced the first decline in its annual sales ever. Many people had predicted that Walmart
s better days had been behind them when McMillion became president. As a result of this decline in
annual sales, people questioned whether or not Walmart could return to the usual type of growth in
sales it had essentially earned every year since it s founding in 1962. To answer this question, some
possibly issues with the management and strategy of Walmart s business needed to be looked at in
depth. Some of these most important issues included: the recent increase in retail sales of the online
market compared to the discount retailer market, the state of Walmart s international business, and the
lacking performance of Walmart s Discount Store, SAM s Clubs, and Neighborhood Markets
compared to their Supercenters. In this case analysis, we will include some possible resolutions that
will help Walmart with these issues and possibly allow them to begin growing their annual sales once
again. This plan will not stray from Sam Walton s Ten Rules for Building a Business, which set
Walmart apart from its competitors from its early stages. Before explaining these ideas of

Ancient Greek And Roman Empires Essay
Most of the history of the past that is known today has been gathered from primary sources of the
times of interest such as original documents and objects. It is through these sources that historians are
able to gain an in depth, and maybe sometimes biased, view into the lives of the people of the time
and what was going on in the period. Despite being two vastly different genres of primary sources,
Cicero s letters and Homer s epic poem The Odyssey, give some of the best ideas into life for the
ancient Greek and Roman empires. Through analysis of these two works, some key similarities and
differences of how both empires functioned are brought to light. During Odysseus s travels and Cicero
s exile, both dreamt of nothing but being able to return home to the place they belonged. Calypso, who
had been keeping Odysseus on her island for several years, in an attempt to get him to stay with her
even tries to tempt Odysseus with immortality and warns him of the troubles he will have attempting
to return and upon arriving (Odyssey 72 73). Despite this temptation and the warning, Odysseus says:
My thought full Penelopeia, beside you, is not so tall or striking to look at. The lady will die; you are
undying and ageless. Even so I go on longing all of my days here to sail back home, to see that
homecoming light. (Odyssey 73)

still desires nothing more than to return

The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry
No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution and
sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists, composers,
and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative for
professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the changing
atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We ve seen music change
form from physical, tangible products like records and CD s to electronic single tracks stored in an
invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores (specifically
iTunes) and file sharing websites that allow music to be downloaded illegally.
Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted in
the United States from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording
Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were buying
more music than ever. How is that possible? It s because iTunes had made digital singles popular and
was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000, Americans bought
943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn t even make a dent in comparison. But by
2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819 million sales
compared to just 500 million for the CD.

The technologies and solutions that the company provides, strive to make life easier and enjoyable for
the community. When it comes to the vast area of technology, that is mainly what Circuit City is
about. The company is a frontrunner for bringing that technology to the community and that is a
reason why customers come to Circuit City. They come to experience the new and upcoming products
that arrive on the market and our store is that doorway for them to experience it. From the small
gadgets and accessories to the larger merchandise such as computers, TVs, audio/video equipment, it
is all available for easy access for the customer. The entire store has to be prepared with presenting the
upcoming products to the community by displaying it or even setting the product up for demonstration
use. So that when ready, the customer can try the product in ease and experience its uses. The
organization has to also be able to staff and supply its stores with the proper technology so that
employees can also use it if they have to.
An example of that would be in the department that I work in, PC Repair. My department is

Thomas Paine Common Sense
Context:
In result of The Seven Years War Britain controlled American trade and territory. In order to pay for
the expenses of the war several taxation acts and military presence were implemented such as the
Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Currency Act, Quartering Act and the presence of British troops at the colonies.
Consequently, Americans who thought these actions violated their political and constitutional liberties
opposed these policies with petitions, boycotts, and resistance strategies known as the Imperial Crisis.
In January 1776 Thomas Paine s Common Sense was composed to convince Americans of the need
for independence from British rule and establishment of democracy. This pamphlet ... Show more

He argues that a democratic system based on continual elections and rights of the people protected by
a written constitution would be more beneficial to society. To strengthen the concept of democracy,
Paine speaks of a hypothetical society brought up in an isolated part of the world, away from other
inhabitants. This supposed society represented the first people. Thomas Paine claims that some of its
people will have many accomplishments other will not; thus through hunger, disease, misfortune and
death it is inevitable that the people will set up some form of government that ...will establish a
common interest with every part of the community, they will mutually and naturally support each
other, and on this (not on the unmeaning name of king) depends the strength of government, and the
happiness of the governed (Thomas Paine, Common Sense). This statement reassures his beliefs
towards democracy while showing how pointless English rule is to society. Thomas Paine is
attempting to promote American independence with this document by explaining the benefits of
democracy, in doing so he is demeaning the English government. Paine emphasizes the prejudices the
English may have had by stating, And as a man, who is attached to a prostitute, is unfitted to choose

The Iliad By Ancient Greek Poet Homer Essay
The Iliad, written by ancient Greek poet Homer, chronicles the battle and events during the final
weeks of The Trojan War, an armed conflict between the Achaeans army and the defenders of Troy. It
further recounts the story of the wrath of Achilles, the greatest warrior in the Greek army, against King
Agamemnon who unfairly appropriates Briseis, the lovely maiden belonging to Achilles after
relinquishing his own maiden, Chryseis, in order to end the plague sweeping the Greek armies.
Infuriated by Agamemnon s demands, the dishonored and humiliated Achilles initially withdraws from
the king s army and enlists the service of Zeus, king of all gods, to bring upon the Achaean army a
devastating loss. He later reconciles with Agamemnon and joins the Greek army to avenge his friend,
Patroclus death, who was killed by Hector, the mightiest warrior in the Trojan army. As Achilles
renters the battle, he experiences aristeias his finest, most glorious moments during the conflict as he
is able to rout the Trojan army, mercilessly slaughtering them one by one, and dragging the mutilated
body of Hector after brutally murdering him. It is only through these fearless, life threatening actions
does Achilles achieve everlasting glory, honor and fame, bestowed to him by his community. In
Homer s Iliad, Achilles aristeia supersedes the aristeias of other characters as the warrior is able to
display unsurpassed skill and prowess in battle, is motivated to seek the principle of justice for his

Hamlet s Character Development Throughout his Soliloquies
Soliloquies are common in Shakespeare s plays as it allows characters in the play to speak directly to
the audience and address their true thoughts and feelings. In Hamlet written by William Shakespeare,
Hamlet has several soliloquies that help to form a deeper, more developed character. These soliloquies
give the reader the opportunity to understand how Hamlet is struggling with his father s death and his
mother s new marriage. They also allow the audience to grasp the trouble Hamlet is having while

Hamlet s anger and sadness. Hamlet is becoming increasing upset when he says, O God, a beast that

his mother but also Claudius as he stole Hamlet s throne from him, as Hamlet was next in line. This
soliloquy begins to prove that Hamlet is upset about his uncle becoming King and marrying his
mother so soon after his father s death. This soliloquy is also the start of Hamlet s depression and his
descent into madness due to his late father, Claudius, and his mother s disloyalty. In Hamlet s fourth
soliloquy, Hamlet s depression deepens as he becomes unsure of what actions he should take for
revenge and is frustrated with himself for procrastinating. Hamlet continues to question the
importance of life and whether he should live or die at this point. He questions, To be, or not to be,

Essay about The Effect of SSRI Medications on Our Humanity
The Effect of SSRI Medications on our Humanity
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are currently one of the most controversial groups of
medicines, with fluoxetine, more commonly known by its brand name Prozac, at the head of the
controversy. Opponents of the use of SSRI medications as a successful and safe method for treating
depression and related disorders assert that the actions of the drug are an unnatural and a dangerous
form of tampering with our neurochemistry. Not only are these medications incredibly safe in almost
all cases, they are actually an unnatural method of modifying an already disordered, natural sequence
of chemicals in the brain, and therefore are not a form of tampering, but are a method for fixing ...

In order to be clinically diagnosed with depression, the patient must have exhibited this feeling as well
as a number of symptoms for a period of at least two weeks. Currently it is estimated that
approximately 85% of those affected can be successfully treated by a physician (Holtz, Stokes, 1138).
The leading theory explaining the biology of depression is the monoamine hypothesis of depression.
(Stahl, 3) This theory suggests that depression is caused by a deficiency in one or another of the three
neurotransmitters: serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. The theory was formulated after the
accidental discovery of the original drugs for depression and psychosis, much in the same way
Fleming discovered penicilin. The resulting medications are classified into
three groups.Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicines block the monoamine oxidase enzyme
(MAO) from destroying monoamine neurotransmitters, which allows them to accumulate, alleviating
depression. Serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medications block the serotonin reuptake
pump, allowing the serotonin neurotransmitter to remain and accumulate in the receptor for longer.
Speaking of serotonin specifically, depression has been related to a deficiency of the 5
hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) neurotransmitter as evidenced by the concentrations of the

Secret Window For Mise En Scene Analysis
Analysing a five minute clip of Secret Window for Mise en Scene and Performance
The first thirty seconds of this clip are of the main character, Mort Rainey in his car. The first thing we
see is the book in his hands, the depth of focus changes as he runs his finger across the stubs of pages.
The focus changes as the character makes a discovery, this could be to emphasise to the audience how
important this discovery might come to be. Then we are shown the character himself, the only thing
slightly obscuring our view of him is the steering wheel, this adds to the creation of the setting. The
symbolic idea behind having the character in his car at this particular moment, could be to show that
he is still discovering things, he hasn t got all of the answers yet, but he s well on his way.

The smart hat is at odds with his unkept appearance and he looks even stranger and more insane with
the hat on. The character quickly stands up and we see his reflection in the mirror. His face is again

that his face is obscured is significant, because the character is in the middles of doubting his own
identity.
As Mort Rainey steps towards the mirror, the camera zooms in and shows his face in much more
clarity, this may be an indication of the character s own clarity as to who he is, although it is more
likely, since we are only seeing his reflection, that it is symbolic of the character seeing himself more
clearly, not total clarity. Again, we hear the character talking to his own thoughts, this along with the
way he s playing with the rim of the hat and the way his face seems to indicate he feels comfortable in
the hat, makes the character seem darker and even more

Blackrobe Movie Review Essay
‘Black Robe Movie Critique
‘Black Robe is the story of a young Jesuit Priest from France who embarks on a religious journey to
convert, to Christianity, the Aboriginal tribes of New France. Set primarily in Ontario during the mid
1630 s, Father Lafargue travels from Quebec via the Ottawa River to the home of the Huron people in
what is now referred to as the Simcoe Region of South Central Ontario. He is aided by a band of
Algonquin speaking people, numbering roughly 20 and a young Frenchman with aspirations of
Priesthood in the motherland. Blackrobe offers an intriguing insight into the relationships between the
French and the Aboriginals. That being said most of the background for the movie is taken from a

The Jesuit Priests saw the Aboriginals as savage and uncultured. not unlike the English or Germans
before French influence. During a flashback sequence belonging to the main protagonist Father
Lafargue, one can see what the elite of France, to which he belongs, think about their new colony.
According to his mother it is a land of backwards people with dangers around every corner which was
certainly not the case.
A point of contention between critics is the depiction of the horrible torture scenes which illustrates,
one might conceive, the Aboriginals barbarism. In one of the opening scenes, a contingent of French
workers joke about the various ways the Aboriginals torture Jesuit Priests and Frenchmen alike, not to
mention other rival tribes. An example of this barbarism is illustrated when the survivors of the
Iroquois attack go through beating lines to inevitably be tortured by having their fingers removed
surgically with mussel shells. Although these actions are barbaric, they are no worse than the atrocities
that arguably every ‘civilized nation during the time period committed. This being said, the film
seems to make the Iroquois more barbaric than they actually were omitting the fact that they routinely
practiced cannibalism.
It is interesting to observe the camera work whereby in almost all the scenes the Jesuits occupy higher
position than anyone else. This refers to the Jesuits standing over the Aboriginals

Importance Of Guns And The Right To Carry Guns
Guns and the right to carry them is such a debatable topic in today s society. So many different people
have their opinions on how people should use their guns or where they can and can t carry them. They
have this misconception that guns are such a big problem and that they kill people, but in reality guns
are not the problem at all it is the people holding them. Even though guns can be dangerous, guns are
used for good more than bad. Getting a conceal carry permit is something that has very precise steps
to follow in order to obtain it. You are required to be at least 21 years of age. If for some reason you
are ineligible to purchase a firearm then you are no longer able to get the permit to conceal a handgun.
A person that has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor or drunkenness in the last three years will
be rejected if applied for a conceal carry permit. As you can see a lot goes into obtaining the permit to
be able to conceal a handgun. After a very thorough background check gets cleared for the applicant
the court may require proof that the applicant can demonstrate competence with a handgun. This
includes: completion of a firearm training course offered by the NRA, the state, or school (Virginia
Gun Laws). Also a lot more goes into it. Many choose to conceal carry instead of open carry for a
couple of different reasons. When you conceal a handgun nobody knows you have the gun. If a
criminal comes to rob a gas station that you are in and sees a handgun on your hip

Is Ridley Scott Achieved A Meaningful Ending Of Thelma And...
Has Ridley Scott achieved a meaningful ending in Thelma and Louise?
What makes a meaningful film ending? Firstly characters in the film need to be taken into
consideration. The easiest way to assess this is to look at the protagonists. Did he or she get to
overcome their personal issues, or are they still bothered by them? Ridley Scott, the director of
Thelma and Louise creates a meaningful ending which features the suicide of the two protagonists
Thelma and Louise. They are fugitives on the run from the U.S law after Louise shot a man who tried
to rape Thelma. In the end, these two women were cornered by police, as a result, they drive off the
Grand Canyon to their deaths over the choice of surrendering. Also, the ending is more meaningful as
their fate led them to the Grand Canyon abolishing Thelma and Louise s plan of escaping to Mexico.
As these two protagonists are taken into consideration, in the end, Scott suggests that their suicide is
more meaningful because at the end they overcome their personal issues. In the same degree, Scott
illustrates that if Thelma and Louise were to escape to Mexico or Surrender their personal struggles
could have paralysed their lives.
The director creates a meaningful ending by suggesting that escaping to Mexico is not a solution for
Thelma and Louise to overcome their personal struggles. This is achieved by getting the audience to
question what good could result from escaping. In the beginning of the final scene, they are driving

Memories In The Silent Cry
Each novel has specific themes or images it is attempting to portray throughout the text. The Silent
Cry is no exception to this attempt. After reading the novel, it soon became clear to me that the theme
of this novel is the importance of memories. I believe that the novel is trying to show how important
our memories are while highlighting the differences of these memories between family members
based on their life experiences. The first place where we can see the vastly different recollection of
memories is when the brothers are discussing S. Takashi has very fond memories of S bringing him

that in his arguments against his brother. Mitsu enjoys taking this memory way from his brother and
declares that he has the memory mistaken: That was what he wanted to believe, so he was almost
consciously ignoring the fact that it was wrong (Oe, Pg. 95) The importance of memories is key to
understanding the novel, but we must also focus on the idea of life experiences. I believe that the life
events that each of the brothers has experienced alter the way in which they recall memories. Mitsu

goal of these diversion programs are to keep adolescents out of the juvenile justice system whenever

adolescents from entering the juvenile justice system and offer alternatives to formal disciplinary

  • 2. Spirited Away Shintoism In the film, Spirited Away, there were many references displayed in regards to the Japanese culture of Shintoism. A major aspect of Shintoism is the belief in the kami (divine beings). They also include spirits that embody natural forces like wind and fire, animals, or an aspect of admiring landscape, such as mountains or waterfalls. Even regular human beings can ultimately be revered as kami after death as long as they lived a pure life. In Spirited Away, purity is one of the main themes prevalent throughout the film. When the characters in the film resort themselves to greed, they are punished with dire consequences. For example, Chihiro s parents were starving when they arrived to the abandoned theme park and smelled an aroma of delicious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, once Chihiro is in the strange world, Haku warns her to not make a noise so no one would find out that she s a human. Once revealed that she is human, people are startled and start to cause a riot (17:30). The audience doesn t know what s going on or what to think of the spirits. Are they good or evil? For instance, Zeniba and Yubaba are twin sisters, yet they contrast so much in evil and good. Zeniba is good, while Yubaba is bad. Nonetheless, they do not stick to one personality as the mean Yubaba shows love and affection towards her child, and the good Zeniba curses Haku. This causes confusion in the audience and leaves them questioning who s good and who s evil. Also, No Face and the River spirit were both not good spirits in the beginning, but lo and behold, they turned out to be good at the end under their facade. Spirited Away leaves both good and evil spirits to coexist, as they create harmony and advocate peace. Another key point, Yubaba stripped away Chihiro s true name, including Haku s, upon gaining employment at the bathhouse. In order for Chihiro to recover continuity with her past, she must create a new identity. Throughout her spiritual journey, Chihiro has overcome her problems and the problems of others. At the end of the movie, when her parents mention that the big move must be scary for her, Chihiro ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Common Endocrine System Malignancy The most common endocrine system malignancy in the Unites States is thyroid cancer. The majority of diagnosed thyroid cancers are classified as differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). More specifically, these cancers are either papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) or follicular thyroid cancers (FTC), with 80.2% being diagnosed as papillary and 11.4% as follicular (Avram, 2012). DTC is the fifth most common cancer among females and has ten year survival rates of 97% for PTC and 94% for FTC (Khan et al., 2015; Marcus, Whitworth, Surasis, Pai, Subramaniam, 2014). The majority of patients diagnosed with DTC receive a near total or total thyroidectomy. Some patients also have lymph nodes or surrounding tissue removed as well dependent on metastases (Avram, 2012). After removal of the thyroid gland, patients can undergo radiographic scintigraphy in the nuclear medicine department to obtain functional and anatomical information. Imaging the patient after the administration of I 123 or I 131 can identify precise locations of radioactivity in the entire body, which can identify distant metastases or any remaining thyroid tissue. The size and location of radioactivity can influence whether doctors chooses surgical excision, radioactive iodine therapy (RAI), or external radiation therapy for those areas. Planar imaging has a sensitivity of 41%, specificity of 68%, and an accuracy of 61% compared to SPECT imaging having rates of 45%, 89%, and 78%. With the combining of SPECT/CT, ... • 4. Golden Age Of Piracy Essay Imagine sailing the seven seas looking for ships to plunder and cities to barricade. This was the life of many sailors back during the Golden Age of piracy. Although many sailors lived their life as pirates, some were actually privateers and were mistaken for pirates. Privateers were like pirates, but instead of raiding for personal gain they did it for the sake of their country. They did not perform gruesome executions and did not always stay at sea like other pirates. Pirates on the other hand were usually ex privateers that realized there was more money in pirating. Pirates during the Golden Age of Piracy often lived a very wealthy lifestyle due to all of the loot they stole off of ships. Most pirates during this era stayed around what is now called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost all pirate crews followed a universal code known as the pirate s code. This code was used like the Ten Commandments but for pirates. The pirate s code decided what happened to traitors and thieves along with what happened to men that brought women aboard the ship. The pirate s code although universal differed from crew to crew. Before a pirate ship left port all pirates collaborated and signed a document called the articles of agreement, also known as the pirates code (Johnson). This ensured anything that happened at sea would be followed by the code. Whether the culprit be the captain or a lowly deck cleaner, the code made sure peace was kept upon the ship. Piracy always had to have laws since most people on the ship were criminals. In the end, pirates served a critical role in the development of America. Without them Britain might have won the war of 1812 and taken over in America. Whether it is roaming the seven seas or barricading town, pirates lived adventurous lives that people can only dream about living today. As Hamill Chris quotes Blackbeard in his Book of Pirates, Life s pretty good, and why wouldn t it be? I m a pirate after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A 12 inch ball is standard with most age groups. The size of the field varies with age and between fastpitch and slowpitch games. The pitcher rubber is anywhere from 35 to 50 feet from home plate and the distance between bases ranged from 55 to 65 feet, states Softball Performance. Fastpitch has caught the most attention. A fastpitch softball pitcher can throw the ball to the home plate at speeds equal to those of major league baseball pitchers. • 6. The Leadership Characterities Of King Richard II We were not born to sue, but to command (Bevington, 2014). King Richard II was born to rule England. He came from a long line of English leaders. King Richard II played a very important part by leading his country and serving his country in their military. Early during King Richard II s reign as king he seemed to be doing great, but he soon took a drastic downward turn. He was betrayed from within his own family. King Richard II was born to be a leader, but his strong presence in the military would eventually become his downfall. To better establish the personal attributes and leadership qualities of King Richard II, his background must first be understood. He was born in England in the year 1367 and ruled England from 1377 to 1399 (Saul, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Already knowing how and why he had lost the country, he had yet obtained the knowledge as to who he had lost the country to. When he returned from Ireland, he saw that his cousin Henry Bolingbroke had taken his throne. Henry Bolingbroke had been waiting for the right time to step in and take the throne from King Richard II. While King Richard II was away at war, Henry Bolingbroke sought the perfect opportunity to take his place on the throne. He could take over and lead the country that he thought was rightfully his. Bolingbroke s motives are also often called unclear. He has no monologues that demonstrate his ambition ever to become king in the course of the play... (Lighterfeld, 2016). People believed that Henry Bolingbroke had not clearly stated that he was out for the throne during the play, but from what he does the way he acts after I believe that he was clearly out for the throne. After all, are not all royal families depicted as thirsty for their crown of fame, ruling a country desiring to be a king. Henry Bolingbroke wants to be a better king and truly believes that he can take the throne and rule a better country then his cousin. While King Richard II thinks otherwise, Strives Bolingbroke to be as great as we? Greater he shall not be... (Bevington, 2014). King Richard II was definitely bitter about Henry Bolingbroke taking the throne away from him. Even though he had done an awful job at reigning over the country himself and truly should not be judging someone for the way they will reign, he did. Henry Bolingbroke did ask for King Richard II to feel that way towards him when he stepped in and took over the throne behind his own cousin s back. In a deranged sort of way, I feel it is very normal for someone to feel and maybe even hope that the person that betrayed them would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Informative Essay About Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves... Neil postman was a jack of all trades, he was an American Author, an educator at New York University, media theorist, and cultural critic. (PressThink 1) In 1985 Neil Postman published a book called Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourage in the Age of show Business. The book provides a look at what happens when politics, journalism, education and even religion become subject to the demands of entertainment. In his book Amusing Ourselves to Death Postman says that the content of a culture is contained in its communication, and that the content of communication is affected by the medium of communication. In other words, Postman is saying that a culture is defined by its connection of people, and the connection of people is afflicted by technology. • 9. Sieve Analysis Test Lab Report INTRODUCTION Aggregate is one of the basic constituents of concrete. Its quality is of considerable importance because about three quarter of the volume of concrete is occupied by aggregates. One of the physical properties of aggregate that influence the property of concrete is the grading of aggregate. The grading of aggregate defines the proportions of particles of different size in the aggregate. The grading of fine (size lt; 5 mm) and coarse (size gt; 5 mm) aggregates are generally required to be within the limits specified in BS 882: 1992. The sample was placed on the top sieve and the sieves was agitated by mechanical sieve shaker for a sufficient period so that after completion, not more than one percent by weight of the residue on any individual sieve will pass that sieve. 5. The weight of each size increment was determined by weighing the residue contained on each sieve. This has be done in a cumulative fashion by starting with the smallest, particles in the bottom pan. After this weight has been determined, the next larger particles was added into the same pan and the cumulative weight was determined. Coarse Aggregate 1. A representative sample was chosen by quartering (according to BS 812: Part 102: 1984) or by use of a sample splitter (Fig. 2C1 3). The game is coming to an end and Mudville is losing four to two and the upcoming hitters are especially bad. By a miracle the batters reach base and bring the best player to bat. The win is just out of reach when Casey strikes out and loses them the game. Thayer uses figurative language, characterization, and choice of speaker to show the theme of men and masculinity. As it turned out, under McMillion s leadership, in 2015 Walmart experienced the first decline in its annual sales ever. Many people had predicted that Walmart s better days had been behind them when McMillion became president. As a result of this decline in annual sales, people questioned whether or not Walmart could return to the usual type of growth in sales it had essentially earned every year since it s founding in 1962. To answer this question, some possibly issues with the management and strategy of Walmart s business needed to be looked at in depth. Some of these most important issues included: the recent increase in retail sales of the online market compared to the discount retailer market, the state of Walmart s international business, and the lacking performance of Walmart s Discount Store, SAM s Clubs, and Neighborhood Markets compared to their Supercenters. Despite being two vastly different genres of primary sources, Cicero s letters and Homer s epic poem The Odyssey, give some of the best ideas into life for the ancient Greek and Roman empires. Calypso, who had been keeping Odysseus on her island for several years, in an attempt to get him to stay with her even tries to tempt Odysseus with immortality and warns him of the troubles he will have attempting to return and upon arriving (Odyssey 72 73). Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative for professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the changing atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We ve seen music change form from physical, tangible products like records and CD s to electronic single tracks stored in an invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores (specifically iTunes) and file sharing websites that allow music to be downloaded illegally. Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted in the United States from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were buying more music than ever. How is that possible? It s because iTunes had made digital singles popular and was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000, Americans bought 943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn t even make a dent in comparison. But by 2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819 million sales compared to just 500 million for the CD. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theory was formulated after the accidental discovery of the original drugs for depression and psychosis, much in the same way Fleming discovered penicilin. The resulting medications are classified into three groups.Monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicines block the monoamine oxidase enzyme (MAO) from destroying monoamine neurotransmitters, which allows them to accumulate, alleviating depression. The focus changes as the character makes a discovery, this could be to emphasise to the audience how important this discovery might come to be. Then we are shown the character himself, the only thing slightly obscuring our view of him is the steering wheel, this adds to the creation of the setting. The symbolic idea behind having the character in his car at this particular moment, could be to show that he is still discovering things, he hasn t got all of the answers yet, but he s well on his way. The actor, Johnny Depp, shows the expression of surprise on the character s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The smart hat is at odds with his unkept appearance and he looks even stranger and more insane with the hat on. The character quickly stands up and we see his reflection in the mirror. His face is again almost completely black and you cannot make out his face, he could be anyone stood there. The fact that his face is obscured is significant, because the character is in the middles of doubting his own identity. As Mort Rainey steps towards the mirror, the camera zooms in and shows his face in much more clarity, this may be an indication of the character s own clarity as to who he is, although it is more likely, since we are only seeing his reflection, that it is symbolic of the character seeing himself more clearly, not total clarity. Again, we hear the character talking to his own thoughts, this along with the way he s playing with the rim of the hat and the way his face seems to indicate he feels comfortable in the hat, makes the character seem darker and even more ... • 31. Blackrobe Movie Review Essay ‘Black Robe Movie Critique ‘Black Robe is the story of a young Jesuit Priest from France who embarks on a religious journey to convert, to Christianity, the Aboriginal tribes of New France. Set primarily in Ontario during the mid 1630 s, Father Lafargue travels from Quebec via the Ottawa River to the home of the Huron people in what is now referred to as the Simcoe Region of South Central Ontario. He is aided by a band of Algonquin speaking people, numbering roughly 20 and a young Frenchman with aspirations of Priesthood in the motherland. Blackrobe offers an intriguing insight into the relationships between the French and the Aboriginals. That being said most of the background for the movie is taken from a massive archive of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Jesuit Priests saw the Aboriginals as savage and uncultured. not unlike the English or Germans before French influence. During a flashback sequence belonging to the main protagonist Father Lafargue, one can see what the elite of France, to which he belongs, think about their new colony. According to his mother it is a land of backwards people with dangers around every corner which was certainly not the case. A point of contention between critics is the depiction of the horrible torture scenes which illustrates, one might conceive, the Aboriginals barbarism. In one of the opening scenes, a contingent of French workers joke about the various ways the Aboriginals torture Jesuit Priests and Frenchmen alike, not to mention other rival tribes. An example of this barbarism is illustrated when the survivors of the Iroquois attack go through beating lines to inevitably be tortured by having their fingers removed surgically with mussel shells. Although these actions are barbaric, they are no worse than the atrocities that arguably every ‘civilized nation during the time period committed. This being said, the film seems to make the Iroquois more barbaric than they actually were omitting the fact that they routinely practiced cannibalism. It is interesting to observe the camera work whereby in almost all the scenes the Jesuits occupy higher position than anyone else. This refers to the Jesuits standing over the Aboriginals ... • 32. Importance Of Guns And The Right To Carry Guns Guns and the right to carry them is such a debatable topic in today s society. So many different people have their opinions on how people should use their guns or where they can and can t carry them. They have this misconception that guns are such a big problem and that they kill people, but in reality guns are not the problem at all it is the people holding them. Even though guns can be dangerous, guns are used for good more than bad. Getting a conceal carry permit is something that has very precise steps to follow in order to obtain it. You are required to be at least 21 years of age. If for some reason you are ineligible to purchase a firearm then you are no longer able to get the permit to conceal a handgun. A person that has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor or drunkenness in the last three years will be rejected if applied for a conceal carry permit. As you can see a lot goes into obtaining the permit to be able to conceal a handgun. After a very thorough background check gets cleared for the applicant the court may require proof that the applicant can demonstrate competence with a handgun. This includes: completion of a firearm training course offered by the NRA, the state, or school (Virginia Gun Laws). Also a lot more goes into it. Many choose to conceal carry instead of open carry for a couple of different reasons. When you conceal a handgun nobody knows you have the gun. If a criminal comes to rob a gas station that you are in and sees a handgun on your hip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Is Ridley Scott Achieved A Meaningful Ending Of Thelma And... Has Ridley Scott achieved a meaningful ending in Thelma and Louise? What makes a meaningful film ending? Firstly characters in the film need to be taken into consideration. The easiest way to assess this is to look at the protagonists. Did he or she get to overcome their personal issues, or are they still bothered by them? Ridley Scott, the director of Thelma and Louise creates a meaningful ending which features the suicide of the two protagonists Thelma and Louise. They are fugitives on the run from the U.S law after Louise shot a man who tried to rape Thelma. In the end, these two women were cornered by police, as a result, they drive off the Grand Canyon to their deaths over the choice of surrendering. Also, the ending is more meaningful as their fate led them to the Grand Canyon abolishing Thelma and Louise s plan of escaping to Mexico. As these two protagonists are taken into consideration, in the end, Scott suggests that their suicide is more meaningful because at the end they overcome their personal issues. In the same degree, Scott illustrates that if Thelma and Louise were to escape to Mexico or Surrender their personal struggles could have paralysed their lives. The director creates a meaningful ending by suggesting that escaping to Mexico is not a solution for Thelma and Louise to overcome their personal struggles. This is achieved by getting the audience to question what good could result from escaping. In the beginning of the final scene, they are driving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Memories In The Silent Cry Each novel has specific themes or images it is attempting to portray throughout the text. The Silent Cry is no exception to this attempt. After reading the novel, it soon became clear to me that the theme of this novel is the importance of memories. I believe that the novel is trying to show how important our memories are while highlighting the differences of these memories between family members based on their life experiences. The first place where we can see the vastly different recollection of memories is when the brothers are discussing S. Takashi has very fond memories of S bringing him candy and being the leader of the village men. Mitsu, on the other hand, remembers quite a different S. He recalls him being weak and the laughing stock of the town. He even goes so far to say that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Takashi sees him like a weak man and emphasizes the strength of his grandfather s brother. Mitsu recalls something quite different. If we look at their memory of who went to Kochi first, grandfather or his brother, we see that the confusion continues. Takashi claims that it was the brother who went up to Kochi. Mitsu proclaims that it was their grandfather who went first. He recalls exact dates and uses that in his arguments against his brother. Mitsu enjoys taking this memory way from his brother and declares that he has the memory mistaken: That was what he wanted to believe, so he was almost consciously ignoring the fact that it was wrong (Oe, Pg. 95) The importance of memories is key to understanding the novel, but we must also focus on the idea of life experiences. I believe that the life events that each of the brothers has experienced alter the way in which they recall memories. Mitsu has been going through a rough time. His good friend just killed himself, and his wife just gave birth to a son with medical issues. He is used to seeing difficult things and has no trouble recalling painful ... These diversion programs use group counseling as a mandatory component of sentencing demonstrate initial success in reducing recidivism rates in national outcome studies. The goal of these diversion programs are to keep adolescents out of the juvenile justice system whenever possible (Lipsey, Howell, Kelly, Chapman, Carver, 2010). These diversion programs divert adolescents from entering the juvenile justice system and offer alternatives to formal disciplinary action. Teen courts (also called Youth Courts) are a growing type of diversion program that utilize a therapeutic approach, with over 1,050 teen youth courts currently operating in the United States. They are designed to promote restorative justice, encouraging the youth to restore the damages his or her behaviors caused to the community. Teen courts have the flexibility to incorporate essential life skills that are tailored to adolescents developmental needs. These groups sessions are within one year of time and members have to complete six to eight of the sessions. These sessions include: the introduction, communication styles, goal setting, career development, anger management skills, healthy relationships, wellness and termination. The home was in a lovely older neighborhood and had been on the market for a long time. So the price from the initial listing to the one that caught my attention was extremely low. I made an offer on the home just by the price alone. The homes in that area were selling for a lot more in that area. The curbside appeal for the home was beautiful. I did not do any research on the property and just took the word of the agent that all documents and taxes were current. That there were no issues. After talking to a few neighbors in that area I found out in time that there were many issues surrounding the property and that is way it was priced so low. The improvements had been done without permits and that placed the property in situations too hard to sell or get financing for. For me the due diligence would have been to research my title documents, court papers, and etc even before wasting anytime on that piece of property. Lucky for me the offer I placed on the table was able to be voided since the agent did not properly inform me of the situation on that piece of property.
