2. INTRODUCTION
• Breast diseases can be classified either with
disorders of the integument, or disorders of
the reproductive system. A majority of breast
diseases are noncancerous.
• Disorders of breast(N60-N65)
• This category deals with Hypertrophy of
breast,lump in breast,mastodynia,atrophy of
breast,etc…..

3. • A breast neoplasm is an abnormal mass of tissue
in the breast as a result of neoplasia.
• A breast neoplasm may be benign, as
in fibroadenoma, or it may be malignant, in
which case it is termed breast cancer. Either case
commonly presents as a breast lump.
• Approximately 7% of breast lumps are
fibroadenomas and 10% are breast cancer, the
rest being other benign conditions or no disease.

4. • Benign mammary dysplasia is a benign
condition (as the name suggests) that affects
women and is characterized by an abnormal
growth (dysplasia) of the breast tissue.
• Basic characteristics of this medical condition
are swelling (a lump) in the breast, discomfort
and increased sensitivity of the nipples. Benign
mammary dysplasia is closely related to the
menstrual cycle (it is under hormonal
influence).

5. • Fibroadenosis of breast also known as fibrocystic
disease is the most common cause of breast
lumps in women of reproductive age. The peak
incidence is between 35 and 50 years of age. It is
rare before 25 years.

6. INFLAMMATORY BREAST DISORDERS

simple forms of mastitis from more complicated

condition of the breast connective tissues in
which the breasts become excessively large.
• Atrophy of breast is the normal or
spontaneous atrophy or shrinkage of the breasts
• Breast atrophy commonly occurs in women
during menopause when estrogen levels
decrease

8. • Fat Necrosis is a pseudo-mass which may
develop within the breast, often presenting as a
lump which a woman discovers herself, or it
might only show up on a screening
mammogram. Fat necrosis almost always occurs
as an after-effect of surgery in the breast.

9. • Mastodynia Breast pain involves any discomfort or
pain in the breast, such as premenstrual tenderness.
• Ptosis of breast is a natural consequence of aging.
• The rate at which a woman's breasts droop and the
degree of ptosis depends on many factors
like: cigarette smoking, her number of
pregnancies, gravity, higher body mass index,
larger bra cup size, and significant weight gain and
loss

10. • Galactocele is a milk-filled cyst, common in
young women who are pregnant or breast-
feeding.
• The cyst wall is normal cuboidal or flat
epithelium
