Digital exclusion among elderly is a growing problem as the internet and technology become more ingrained in daily life. While some older people choose not to use the internet, many feel excluded due to barriers like cost, lack of access, skills, and health issues. Reasons for disengagement are complex and interrelated. Age UK Sheffield is working to address this issue through initiatives that make internet access possible and provide ongoing support to help older adults overcome motivational barriers and adopt technology.

As Autumn sets in and many of us are now living with the impact of COVID-19, local lockdowns and social distancing as an ongoing reality, what does this mean for the UK and healthy ageing?
Digital inclusion will play an increasing critical role in the healthy ageing agenda, so what have we learnt about the challenges older people and organisations now face, is there a deepening the digital divide, and how can we work differently and collaboratively to ensure more older people can maximise the benefits of being part of a digital society to meet their personal needs?

The senior demographic has been neglected as technology rapidly develops. The COVID-19 pandemic has
escalated technological integration into daily activities. Because of this rapid change there is a pertinent
need to ensure that elders have the necessary technological literacy. Previous research showed that elders
are not shying away from Internet use but are lacking in willingness to adapt to new methods. This
research aims to identify the current knowledge gaps of the senior demographic and propose solutions to
those problem areas. This project utilizes a survey to get direct feedback from the target demographic. The
results identified specific knowledge gaps, which can be generalized to a lack of awareness of available
resources. These observations were used to formulate a list of tools and resources that elders can take
advantage of to become more confident on the Internet, and ultimately have the best experience.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Senior citizens belonging to the upper class and upper middle class are more tech friendly than those who are poor. Health services are accessed by very few via the internet .This also shows that the accessibility of government services made for old people that can accessed via the phone remains limited. Some auto drivers did use Google maps and online payment system which tells us that progress has been made in the process of making the technology user friendly for old age people.
