INTRODUCTION
Now a day’s social media has been the
important part of one’s life from shopping to
electronic mails, education and business tool.
Social media plays a vital role in transforming
people’s life style. Social media includes social
networking sites and blogs where people can
easily connect with each other.Since the
emergence of these social networking sites like
Twitter and Facebook as key tools for news,
journalists and their organizations have
performed a high-wire act . These sites have
become a day to day routine for the people.
Social media has been mainly defined to refer
to “the many relatively inexpensive and widely
accessible electronic tools that facilitate anyone
to publish and access information, collaborate
on a common effort, or build relationship” Social
media is defined as websites and applications
that enable users to create and share content
or to participate in social networking. It is the
one of the most modern and favorite form of
Social media including many features and
Social-characteristics in it.
It have many advantages on same channel like
as communicating ,texting, images sharing
audio and video sharing , fast publishing, linking
with all over world, direct connecting. It is also a
cheapest fast access to the world so it is very
essential for all age group of peoples. Internet
use is increasing day by day now a days with
high rate in all over the world. Majority of youth
is moving quickly from electronic media like as
television viewers and radio listeners to the
social media among all age of group people.
Now a days youth rate is very much to moving
into social media so its impact .
What is Social Media ?
Social media refers to interaction
among people in which they can
create,share or exchange information
and ideas in virtual
communities and networks.
 “Social” – refers to instinctual
needs humans have to connect with
other humans.
 “Media” – what we use to make
connections with other humans.
“Social Media” – Media used for social
interaction. Social media is the use of electronic
and internet tools for the purpose of sharing
and discussing information and experiences
with an online community.
The “social” in social media implies a
conversation. The difference between social
media and the TV is that with the latter, viewers
seldom engage with the programme-makers of
the show that they are watching. Only in very
recent time have programme makers expanded
into the world of social media.

History of Social Media
 The first social media site that everyone can
agree actually was social media was a
website called Six Degrees. It was named
after the ‘six degrees of sepration
theory and lasted from 1997 to 2001. Six
Degrees allowed users to create a profile and
then friend other users. Six Degrees even
allowed those who didn’t register as users
to confirm friendships and connected quite a
few people this way.
 From Six Degrees, the internet moved into the
era of blogging and instant messaging.
Although blogging may not seem like social
media precisely, the term fits because people
were suddenly able to communicate with a
blog other instantly as well as other readers.
The term “blog” is a form of the phrase
“Weblog” which was coined by Jorn
Barger, an early blogger that was the editor of
the site “Robot Wisdom.”
 In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched what
would soon become the social media giant
that would set the bar for all other social
media services. Facebook is the number one
social media website today and it currently
boasts over a billion users.
 However, back in 2004, Facebook
(TheFacebook.com then) was launched just
for Harvard students. Zuckerberg saw the
potential and released the service to the world
at the website facebook.com.
 In 2006, the popularity of text messaging or
SMS inspired Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Noah
Glass and Evan Williams to create Twitter, a
service that had the unique distinction of
allowing users to send “tweets”o 140
characters or less. Today, Twitter has over
500 million users.
Impact of Social Media on
Youth
Nowadays social media has become a new set
of cool tools for involving young peoples. Many
young people’s day to day life are woven by the
social media. Youngsters are in conversation
and communication with their friends and
groups by using different media and devices
every day .
In past years it was seen that youngsters are in
touch with only friends and their groups in
schools and colleges.But nowadays youngsters
are in contact not only with known friends but
also with unknown people through social
networking sites, instant messenging etc. .
According to:
BBC news research of 2013 they discuss that
67% Facebook users are very common and
well consist of the youth and students, so these
praise the fact that the youth and student have
more focus and relation.
Throughout the country teenagers frequently
use the web, mobile phones, online games to
communicate and gather information with each
other. As per the survey in California the below
table shows that how social media impacts the
behavioral health of California’s adults .

Negative Effects of Social Media
on Youngsters
 Today it’s not clear that who the “strangers”
are especially in the field of social media.
 Kidnapping, murder, robbery can be easily
done by sharing details on social media.
 There are many cases registered in
policestation where adults target young
children and lure them into meeting them.
 Mostly youngsters waste lots of time on
social sites like chatting which also effects
their health.
 Some useless blogs influence youth
extremely that they become violent and can
take some inappropriate actions.
Eye Problems: Prolonged use of display
screens may weaken eye sight.
Addiction: Internet shopping, online chatting
can be addictive.
Effect on health: Sitting all day in front of
laptops/computers may disturb body
metabolism.
Reduction in physical activities
Teens who use Facebook more may have
psychological disorders, including antisocial
behaviors, mania and aggressive
tendencies.
The Desire to Compare: We compare
ourselves to others in terms of looks,
travelled destinations, shopping sprees,
friends and so on.
 Lack Of Interpersonal Skills: youth often
ignore the importance and the appropriate
behaviour related to face-to-face contact.

unwanted message/interaction
How to Prevent Social Media
Threats??
Install theft protection software on all of the
computers you use to access social media
accounts.
Make sure never to click the box to save
your password when you are on a public,
work or laptop computer.
Use your real name whenever you sign up
for social media accounts.
Avoid giving out personal information on
social media sites, such as address, phone
number or your birth date.
Change your privacy settings on all your
social media accounts, so that you have
control of all the information that is posted.

Conclusion and Implication
As the technology is growing the social media
has become the routine for each and every
person, peoples are seen addicted with these
technology every day. With different fields its
impact is different on people. Social media has
increased the quality and rate of collaboration
for students. Business uses social media to
enhance an organization’s performance in
various ways such as to accomplish business
objectives,increasing annual sales of the
organization. Youngsters are seen in contact
with these media daily .Social media has
various merits but it also has some demerits
which affect people negatively. False
information can lead the education system to
failure, in an organization wrong advertisement
will affect the productivity, social media can
abuse the society by invading on people’s
privacy, some useless blogs can influence
youth that can become violent and can take
some inappropriate actions. Use of social
media is beneficial but it should be used in a
limited way without getting addicted.
Parents need to work with their children on
using safety precautions when on social
media sites. Thirty-one percent of youth
surveyed by the National School Board
Association (2007) reported posting
inappropriate pictures and sharing personal
information with strangers.
Youth need to be taught of the dangers of
putting their personal information online.
Information that is posted online can never
be permanently erased.
Parents and their children should establish
privacy settings, and the children should
learn to check to be sure that their privacy
settings have not changed
