The document discusses research into different album digipak covers. It analyzes covers for albums by Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, One Direction, and The Saturdays. Some key findings include:
1) Most effective covers feature a prominent image of the artist as the main focal point and include both the artist and album name.
2) Eye-catching elements like contrasts in color, bold or unusual fonts, and full bleed images are important for drawing audience attention.
3) Consistency across an artist's albums, like One Direction's logo placement, helps promote recognition of their brand.

2. Digipak Research
Justin Bieber - Believe
The image to the left is like your typical digipak cover.
It has an image of the artist as the main focus in
centre and has both the name of the artist and the
album name on the cover.
We liked this cover because of the contrast between
the black and white image of the artist and the
coloured writing which makes it eye catching.
The writing on this particular digipak is different as it
is in block bold lettering so it stands out to the
audience.
We also liked the image of the artist on this cover as
he is the main focus however he is looking away from
the camera yet still draws the attention of the
audience in.
3. Digipak Research
Taylor Swift
The image to the right has both similarities and
difference to typical digipaks. As always an image of the
artist is the main focus of the cover which we both like
the idea of and would like to include in our digipak.
However unlike most digipaks this cover does not have
the name of the album title on it, it only includes the
artist name. We didn’t like this idea as we found it
wouldn’t be informative to the audience and also would
not promote the album.
The colours used in this cover are bright and eye
catching which helps to draw the attention of the
audience in.
The writing on the image is different than just normal
writing that is typically on front covers this may show a
reflection of the artist.
4. Digipak Research
Rihanna - Loud
The image to the left is different to your typical
digipak, this cover does not include the name of the
artist but only the album title, this may be because
the artist Rihanna is very famous and so just by having
her image on there she is recognised and is promoting
herself.
We liked how the image of the artist takes over the
whole album cover, this is unusual for an album cover
but it is very eye catching.
We also liked how the red of the lips matches the red
of the artists hair, this makes the cover every bold and
stand out.
The white spaced out bold writing along the bottom
of the album is still eye catching and bounces off the
colouring of the image.
5. Digipak Research
One Direction – Up All Night
The image to the right is very typical of a boy band
digipak, we liked that it’s got an image of all the
artists in the band having fun.
The cover contains both the band name and the
name of the album which is always typical of a
digipak.
Unlike many digipaks this one contains a band logo
in the top corner of the cover, this would help to
promote the band themselves as well as the album,
we liked the idea of this and would possibly like to
use this on our own digipak.
The colours used in this image are very neutral and
basic colours but yet they still stand out and
manage to catch the eye of the audience, we think
this is because they are the main focus of the cover.
6. Digipak Research
The Saturdays
The image to the left is an unusual digipak. This
cover does not contain the album title, only the
name of the band.
Out of all the digipaks that we had researched
into this was our favourite one due to the
contrast on the image. We liked that the image
itself was black and white but the artists dresses
were in bold and eye catching colours.
The band name on the cover is also slightly
unusual but it goes with the album cover and
gives a great effect.
Although the cover is very plain and does not
contain and information itself it is still very eye
catching to the audience we believe this is
mainly down to the contrast which we would like
to create for our digipak.
7. Digipak Research
One Direction
The images above of a few One Direction albums show that there is a consistency and repetition
between the albums. This makes them recognisable and helps to promote themselves by having a
consistent logo in the top corner of every album. Each album uses fairly neutral colours however they
all stand out as the main focus is on the image of the band members which in all album covers are
having fun.
