If the rash is severe or does not improve with standard care, it may be a yeast infection requiring antifungal treatment. Preventing diaper rash involves promptly changing wet or soiled diapers to limit moisture on the skin.

2. DEFINITION OF DIAPER RASHES
Diaper rash (Nappy rashes) is any
rash that affects the diaper area
of the child.
 It is a common condition in
infants.
 Diaper rash is usually not
contagious.


3. Risk factor
babies between 8 to 10 months of
age.
 babies are not kept clean and dry.
 babies who have frequent stools.
 babies begin to eat solid foods
 babies are taking antibiotics.
 babies whose mothers are taking
antibiotics


4. causes
Too much moisture in the diaper
area.
 Yeast or bacterial infection.
 Skin stays in contact with urine or
feces for a long period.
 Allergic reaction to the material a
diaper is made of.




Skin rashes on
Abdomen.

of the thighs.
Bottom.
Redness of the skin.

Change diaper frequently
- Check the diaper about every hours;
if there's wet or solid change them
immediately
- Make sure that the baby bottom is
completely dry before closing up the
fresh diaper.

Increase air exposure
- Keep baby bottom expose to the air
as mush as possible each day.
- Fasten the diaper loosely to allow air
circulate between it and skin
- Make holes on disposable diaper to
let air in.

Rinse the skin with warm water
- Use mild soap only after bowel
movement
- Rinse skin well if there raw diaper
rashes
- use warm water soaks for 15 min
three times per day.

Night time care
- at night use anew diaper with
material that lock wetness in side
and away from skin
- Awake once during the night to
change the baby diaper.
- Avoid plastic pants at night.

Apply creams and ointment
- if the skin dry and cracked apply an
ointment to protect the skin after
washing off each bowel movement.
- Use barrier ointment if the baby
have diarrhea.
- Avoid powder because of risk of
pneumonia if baby inhale it.

Detect yeast infection
- If the rashes is bright red and not
respond to 3 days of warm water
cleansing and air exposure its
suspect yeast infection.
- Apply Antifungal cream after each
bottom rinse for bowel movement.

- Avoid using lotions that may contain
perfumes or other additives.
- Contact health care center
# if baby has a diaper rash and fever.
# the rash does not improve within
two to three days when you treat as
described.
# Persistent diaper rash is present.
