The Censorship Of The Journalism
Breaking news just in.......... this is just one of the everyday things in the hectic world of
journalism. People often downplay the significance of this huge task. Journalism allows people to
know everything happening all around the world. It also allows questions that would otherwise be
awkward to ask to be answered. It offers informative facts and often the whole truth to everyone out
there. Without journalismthe government would probably be in control of everything and fellow
citizens would ignorant of the happenings around them.
One of the roles in journalism is the journalist. Journalists have several tasks to complete but the
main thing is that they inform the public about events and topics and how it may pertain to ... Show

Not only was he a journalist he was also a publisher and printer. He was rather successful in this
area and it could be due to the fact that he would be neutral on subjects and scrutinize all sides of
an issue and several perspectives on those issues would be published. He completely understood the
meaning of the freedom of the press, and he wouldn t limit the information he knows to the people
in America.
A reporter is another essential position in journalism. A reporter is the one who watches and
pictures the events in great detail in order to inform viewers. They have to state their own views
and also the facts of the things they are covering. This job includes having to gather the news and
present it in a certain amount of time. They have to interview several people and attend public
meetings, press conferences, and courts to find events of interest to the public.
This job doesn t quite provide fixed hours or a regular routine; it ll change by the day. The type
of work will change daily, as well as the amount of it. To fit this job a reporter must possess
confident, so they won t be overly amazed or intimidated by the rank of an interviewee. A
reporter should always take initiative to do all tasks and not be easily discouraged by people or
their surroundings. They should also posses the mental and physical drive to deal with any kind of

Latest Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a form of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and
behavior. AD typically involves the development of a progressive neuropsychiatric disorder that
is characterized by gradual memory impairment, loss of acquired skills and emotional
disturbances (Lee, Y. J., Han, S. B., Nam, S. Y., Oh, K. W., Hong, J. T.). Every 67 seconds an
individual in the United States develops AD. AD is the sixth leading cause of death in the United
States. There are 5.3 million Americans diagnosed with AD (Latest Alzheimer s Facts and Figures).

2010). The neuroinflammation is an early, non specific immune reaction to tissue damage or
pathogen invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) is
characterized by increased glial activation, pro inflammatory cytokine concentration, blood brain
barrier permeability, and leukocyte invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Microglia are cells that support and
protect neuronal functions (Lee at al. 2010). They act as the first and main form of active immune
defense that orchestrate the endogenous immune response of the Central Nervous System. The
microglia play a central role in the cellular response to pathological lesions such as AОІ. AОІ can
attract and activate microglia, leading to clustering of microglia around AОІ deposits sites in the
brain (Lee et al. 2010). Even though microglia have neuroprotective functions, neurotoxic
mechanisms which involves continuous activation of microglia and toxic factors are released by
microglia, which may lead to neuroinflammation (Lee et al. 2010). Astrocytes (star shaped glial
cells) are the most abundant cells in the brain and are located in the brain and spinal. Astrocytes
have various functions such as: biochemical support of endothelial cells of the BBB, supplying
nutrients to the nervous tissue, maintenance of extracellular ion balance, and healing the brain and
spinal cord following traumatic injury (Lee et al., 2010). Chemokines are released by astrocytes
which attract microglia and they further express proinflammatory products, thus increasing
neuronal damage in the pathogenesis of AD (Lee et al., 2010). Astrocytes play a critical role in
AГџ clearance and degradation, and they also provide trophic support to neurons forming a
protective barrier between AГџ deposits and neurons (Wyss Coray et al., 2003). Neurons contribute

Theme Of Voices In The City By Anita Desai
Abstract:
Unlike other women novelists, Anita Desai concentrates on the exploration of sensibility, that too
feminine sensibility by probing deep into the inner life of a woman. Desai reigns supreme in her
fictional world by focusing attention towards the quest inward and concentrating on the still
grimmer and more harrowing presentation of Indian life. In fact all her characters are sensitive,
solitary and hyper introspective. Her fiction balances itself delicately on the fringes between things
and awareness of things, between chaos and order of mind. Her primary interest lies in exploring
the disturbed depths of the female psyche. . The most prominent feature of her fiction is her mode
of individualizing the character. She is preoccupied primarily with the portrayal of women
protagonists as living in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As signified by the title, the City of Calcutta with its dark Pandemonium takes the role of living
spirit. It is the city of Death. It turns to the tragedy of man in a society where both art and life are
in lack of love. Nirode is a person without family who meets failures after failures. And he refuses
to make even the most necessary compromises that life demanded. He is neglected even from his
mother. His elder sister, Monisha, finds him reduced to shrunken waste thing. Married against
her will, to a blind moralist, Monisha finds her life a real prison and develops an incurable
claustrophobia. The other members of the family are not favourably put. The mother s action is
quiet disturbing. The elder son, Arun, has married a clean, efficient, blue eyed nurse never to
return home. The younger daughter, Amla is like her brother and sister, real extrovert. She decides
to lead a gay life with the painter Dharma, but in vain. Thus they are all the product of the same

Essay On Veterans Ethics
Over the last decade or so we have seen our country fail our Veterans on so many different levels.
The U.S. Governments treatment of our Veterans has come under fire because so many of our
Veterans are not being adequately taken care of. Some would say this is a mere oversight in our
government, but to me it is a lack of ethics. Menzel defines Ethics as values and principles that
guide right and wrong behavior. When we look at the landscape of our Government beginning with
the Executive office we see a lack of leadership in my opinion. The President of the United States
should be the biggest advocate for our Veterans. Unfortunately, we see decisions that are made
based on political motives instead of what s right for the men and women who have sacrificed their
lives for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is plenty of empty promises that are being made all while many of our Veterans are
lacking adequate medical care or are struggling to keep a roof over their heads while suffering
from issues that are related to war. We have Senators and Congressman who is paid handsomely,
and who receives better care than many of our veterans do. Many veterans have to wait
extended periods of time before they can receive care, most are making pennies compared to our
elective officials whose interest are only in special interest groups who gives millions of dollars
to them in campaign money. According to Legistorm members of Congress make $174,000 a year,
the Speak of the House makes $223,000; this is five times and six times what the average veteran
makes in our country. We rely on these individuals to make policies and laws to help people,
especially our veterans. With the past corruptions at several VA Facilities, we see that the best
interest of our Veterans is not being made a priority even though our President and Congress have
made pledges to help these

Howard Zinn Chapter Summary
What evidence does Zinn offer to show the US government was not opposed to fascism on
principle?
Zinn first explains that the governments main interest from the start wasn t really to even stop
fascism but rather to advance the counties own imperial interest. For example, Italy during this
time was practicing fascism. If the The US was opposed to fascism the government would have
tried to cut Italy off but instead it let American Businesses send oil to Italy. Zinn then explains how
policies in the United States almost perfectly mirrored those practiced in the fascists Nations. He
portrays this in two ways, first he explains the treatment of women and then explains the racism
the broke out in the US towards the Japanese. Fascist nations strongly believed in fallowing
gender roles. What I mean by this is that, according to fascists principle women were to basically
embrace their stereotypes; staying at home and being good housewives. Even though the US was
supposed to be in a war against fascism, it really didn t do anything differently to help equalize the
role of women and men. Apparently other than using women in defense industries the US didn t do
anything different, also keep in mind there were no other options besides women at this time.
United states policies kept women out of the policy making areas and only used them for war work.
Lastly, Zinn explains how the racist practices in the United starts almost perfectly imitated those
seen in fascist nations. He used the

Summary Of The Song Landslide
Landslide, by Fleetwood Mac, is written to show how the removal of a loved one can impact
someone s life negatively or positively. The theme of the song can be found in several lyric such
as, Well, I ve been afraid of changin, cause I ve built my life around you (Fleetwood Mac). It is
said that if a couple thinks that their relationship is not going to work out, it can tumble over at
any time. The effects of shouting out and going for help may seem like a good idea, but it will
just bring down the avalanche right on top of the situation and collapse everything in. In Perks
of Being a Wallflower, Charlie experiences a loss of a close friend (Michael) to a suicide. Charlie
has the idea of coping with this death by writing in letters to his unnamed friend and this is a
reason why this is on the mixtape.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song represents the feeling of emptiness throughout life. Through all of Kurt Cobain s life, it
was mostly empty. People are searching for the theme, and that can be found in the lyrics, With
the lights out, it s less dangerous, / Here we are now; entertain us, / I feel stupid and contagious
(Nirvana). It is said that these lyrics show the security and satisfaction after shooting up with
heroin. The idea of drugs and sex is messed up but nothing can entertain a group of young teens.
People are trying to introduce this idea of heroin as an idea that is better than sex, which is almost
all that someone can say after shooting up too many times. Charlie soon finds the lifestyle inside
highschool of drug parties, drama, and nighttime adventures. Charlie is dipped into the 90s music
era and this helps cope with problems that may occur later throughout the

Suicide -A Serious Issue
Suicide is a serious issue although not uncommon. Suicide can be thought of or actually done
because of different problems such as money issues, depression, or feeling alone like there is no
way out. Suicide is often thought as an easy solution, people see it as the end. Although that s even
if they succeed at it, they don t stop and think what if they fail and how they can permanently injure
themselves. Some people think that others claim they might do it to receive attention, which is
probably true but only very few times. Either way it is not worth risking. According to the centers
for disease control and prevention suicideis the eleventh cause of death among Americans overall,
it is the third leading cause of death among young people in the U.S. Young people have a
tendency of thinking if something goes wrong it s the end of the world. One of the main causes
of suicide is money. Although some people believe money is the key to happiness that is not
true. In refrance to our text book De Botton, We can regard our life as a uselessly disturbing
episode in the blissful repose of nothingness. Human existence must be a kind of error. It may be
said of it, it is bad today and everyday it will get worst, until the worst of all happends. This was
said by philosophers Schopenhauer s father. Schopenhauer s father was believed to have committed
suicide, although he was a wealthy man. Schopenhauer s father made sure to leave a fortune for his

Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space
In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the
story, Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless
people don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and
painting them a color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space,
Staples makes the reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see
his perspective. Staples emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces
through the use of explicit language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman
(197). Using the word victim , he expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view.
Additionally, using the word victim provides the reader with a different perspective on how the
person who is being perceived as being a threat feels.
The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the
heart is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). Home is a private
space surrounded by walls, making people who reside there feel secure. In contrast to Staples,
Quindlen uses implicit language because it is implied that on the other hand, living in a public
space can be threatening because certain public spaces are considered unsafe. Black people in the
streets can be perceived as being one of the many threats, like Staples was. Ironically,

Teacher Resistance Can Cause Barriers When Implementing...
History of Resistance
Technology is not a modern, 21st century word. Technology has been in our society, and our
classrooms for that matter, for quite some time. According to Seattler (1990) integration of
televisions into the classroom started in the 1950 s and has evolved to bigger and better things
since then.
When first introduced, televisions were given put in classrooms with the expectation that when
turned on, teaching practices would be transformed and problems in instruction and student
performance would be solved. This movement was met by resistance, as described by Cuban
(1986); teachers were not willing to integrate this technology into their teaching practices. Not only
were teachers untrained on how to use this new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One must try an idea out, fail or succeed, then evaluate the effectiveness by analyzing the results.
After this process, a decision about future activities can be made, and then taken through the same
process.
Once examined further, it is not merely a time issue, but also an educator comfort issue. If given a
task of implementing technology with little or no training, then expected to transform student
thinking in new and exciting ways, one cannot blame a teacher for feeling overwhelmed and
perhaps resistant to doing so. The current system must be examined and addressed as technology is
being poured into education at a fast rate, and districts must find a way to support teachers in this
overwhelming endeavor of not only learning the technology, but learning to teach with it.
Solution Number One
Teachers must be trained in a new type of pedagogy, one that involves the use of technology. As
stated by Cuban (2001) teachers end up using technology as means to mealy keep up with what
they required to do, such as check daily messages from administration and keep grades,
communicate with the staff, create letters to go home, and to create materials for their lessons such
as handouts. Although this is a form of using technology, it is far from the desired use of using the
given classroom technology for innovations in their teaching style.

Important Factors That Affect Plant Growth And Development...
3.1 Introduction
Chamomile and yarrow are both medicinal plants cultivated all over the world in an effort to
determine the main active compounds from plant materials. The main factors that influence plant
growth and development are temperature, light, and plant date. An extensive amount of studies
have been done on the effect of controlled conditions on the growth of in vitro and in vivo
chamomile and yarrow cultures (Giorgi et al., 2014; Mohammad et al., 2010).
Date of planting and ages of seedling had significant effects on chamomile morphological
characterizations. The maximum values for plant spread, plant height, and shoots produced,
number of branches production and the diameter of flower heads was observed from 15th April
compared to 1st May, 15th May and 30th May. Nevertheless, all measurement characteristics were
not significantly affected by the ages of seedling except for, plant spread and plant height at
transplanting. The highest plant spreads were obtained after 30 days of seedlings, whereas the
maximum plant heights were examined after 90 days of seedlings (Mohammad et al., 2010).
On the other hand, growing season and light environment were two factors which strongly affected
all growth parameters of yarrow during different growing seasons. The fresh and dry weight of
stem/leaf ratio, the leaves and the fresh weight of inflorescence were mainly influenced by light
conditions (Giorgi et al., 2014). The greatest development of leaves, stem/leaf ratio and

Boeing s Strategy
The Capital Assets Price Model (CAPM), is a model for pricing an individual security or a
portfolio. Its basic function is to describe the relationship between risk and expected return, which
is often used to estimate a cost of equity (Wikipedia, 2009). It serves as a model for determining
the discount rate which is used in calculating net present value. The CAPM says that the expected
return of a security or a portfolio equals the rate on a risk free security plus a risk premium. The
formula is:
R = Rf + *(E(Rm) Rf) Rf = Risk free rate of return, usually U.S. treasury bonds ( ) ОІ = Beta for a

There are two formulas to calculate the weight of debt and equity as show below:
Debt/Equity=0.525 (D/E=0.525)
Debt+Equity=1 (D+E=1); D=1 E
Using the second formula substituting back into the first equation and the result is 1 E/E=0.525,
so through calculating this equation, it can indicate that E is 0.656 and D is 1 0.656=0.344. The
Boeing s capital structure is that the weight of debt is 34.4% and the weight of equity is 65.6%.
From this case, it gives a well known formula how to finance Boeing s weighted average cost of
capital (WACC), it shows below:
WACC= (percent Debt) (Pretax cost of debt capital) (1 Marginal effective corporate tax rate) +
(percent Equity) (Cost of equity capital)
In previous calculation, it already know the percent Debt is 34.4%, percent Equity is 65.6%, Cost
of equity capital is 11.088% and in this case gives Marginal effective corporate tax rate is 35%. So
it only just to calculate cost of Debt. The cost debt is the interest rate or yield that a firm must pay
on its bonds. In this case, it uses weighted average yield to maturity to calculate cost of debt.
Through the form of EXHIBIT 11 and using two column debt amount and yield to maturity to
finance cost of debt is 5.286%, however, the appropriate cost of debt is the after tax

The History of Japanese Ninjas
In today s society, ninjas have evolved into turtles or movie extras. Both are very poor
representations of what a ninja truly was in Japan in the ages past. Ninjas were not reptiles or
someone to trifle with either. These highly trained assassins have a back story shrouded in mystery,
warlords squabbling to gain their favor, training and operations of a dark nature.
The well known black garbed assassins, known as ninjas, are commonly considered to be Japanese
in origin. Though ninjas themselves are from Japan, their philosophy or ideals actually came from
China. In the fourth century, a man named Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War. This collection of ideas
heavily influenced the way of the ninja. Therefore, the idea of the ninja came from China, but the
ninjas were trained and fought in Japan.
In the tenth century through the fifteenth centuries, the ninjas were in heavy demand. Japan was a
fractured nation at this time. There was no true central power to unify all the different nobles.
Without this central power the warlords fought each other. During this time ninjas were used
regularly (Grabainowski). However, in the Tokugawa period, Tokugawa was able to unify Japan.
This meant that the ninjas were no longer needed. Some ninjas are still being trained today but not
nearly as many as in the tenth century.
In Japan s civil war, warlords continuously fought one another in hopes of gaining enough land and
resources to be capable of conquering all of Japan (Bertrand). To do this

Bartleby The Scrivener, By Melville Essay
Melville s short story Bartleby the scrivener, describes the narrator as an elderly old man that
wishes to give details of the life of Bartleby the scrivener. Bartleby was a completely emotionless
human being who refuses to interact with the world around him. These actions shape the short
story, picking at its viewers mind as to why Bartlebyis disconnected from society. Bartleby worked
in the dead letters office this may have triggered his inability to relate to the world around him.
This motionless docility covered his inner troubles that he withheld from the world. The narrator
states I have known very many of them, professionally and privately, and if I pleased, could relate
divers histories, at which good natured gentlemen might smile, and sentimental souls might weep.
(Melville s). In this he means that many persons might choose to smile as they find pleasure in
reading Bartleby as much as those who might weep because they find the short storyto be
discouraging. In the 1970 s adaptation is one of those sentimental souls that the narrator is talking
about in that it weeps for Bartleby, however the narrator brings the humor to life as he becomes
speechless to Bartleby preferring not to do his work.
In Melville s short story placed on Wall Street, the narrator describes the setting of a bleak office to
have a white wall of the interior of a spacious sky light shaft, penetrating the building from top to
bottom on one end, on the other it contrasted in the direction

A Broken Home Essay
I feel that every single day. I want to be happy with a delighted family. My life well family has
been broken since forever. You must be wondering on what I mean forever . Well, for starters,
my family is broken. It has been broken since the day my parents decided to move to California.
America can make your dreams come true or destroy everything you have. It started with
something simple. Rules in a relationship is to never cheat on each other. My mom might not
know this but, i remember this one time we were at her friends house and i walked in on her
kissing another men. They didn t acknowledge me or notice i was standing near the door. I was
and i watch them slobber each other. This situation felt more like a dream, as I kept replaying
the slobbering, I can t help but think that I might be imagining this. I wasn t, this really
happened. You might think my mom was the cheat in this situation but, my dad was the biggest
cheater yet. I remember all the fights, arguments, and separations that happen in these years. It
was tough to go through all of that and try to ignore it. I tried to ignore it, it just came back with
a bigger problem. He didn t do it just once, he did it multiple times. It sucked, i was young at the
time when all of this happen. I guess cheating wasn t the problem. My dad broke my heart before
any man had the chance. I m not the brightest child nor the most athletic. He broke my heart with
words. Words hurt a lot especially when it comes from someone who

Essay Global Positioning Systems and Air Cargo
This paper describes the concept of the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and how they improve
the Air Cargo industry. In this paper we will discuss how GPS came to be and how it is used in
every day air travel. The paper will also explain how the GPS systems improve the Air Cargo
industry in tracking the shipment from one hub to another.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system of navigation based on the integration of 24
satellites, 21 working systems and 3 backups, that relay information regarding craft position and
velocity to users (Colborn, 1992). First initiated as a program by the US Department of Defense
through their Navstar system, GPS was deployed and fully operational in 1994 and speculations of
the utility of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time, microwave landing systems, or MLS, were due to replace instrument landing systems,
and theorists recognized the possible benefits that could be attained from implementing controls
through the GPS systems (Moxon, 1992). Because of the relative cost effectiveness of these
systems and the fact that satellite positioning systems allowed for a greater degree of flexibility in
navigational assistance, it was believed that GPS could aid in precision landings (Moxon, 1992).
Furniss (1992) recognized that theorists predicted that GPS satellites could be used to provide air
traffic control surveillance and communications as well as navigational support and reduce traffic
management costs by reducing the need for costly and inefficient ground based systems. This
projection has come into view in recent years and has begun to shape the progress in specific air
service based industries, including the air cargo industry.
In 1994, the Federal Aviation Administration, working in cooperation with NASA, concluded a
process of testing which underscored the belief in the possibility of using GPS satellites to
navigate commercial airliners, especially during the approach and landing segments, in order to
improve efficiency as well as operational safety. GPS satellites assist ground based personnel by
providing them with a more

Discussion Of Virtue In Plato s Meno
During this week s intro to Plato s Meno and the idea of inputting a portion of the first few pages
to improve life I stumbled across an interesting topic. This was what I call differences in species
and matter or like Sacrates described it by asking, ... you think it is only in the case of virtue that
there is one for a man, another for a woman and so on. (2). There, we can see that he wants to make
sure that Meno knows that virtueis no different for man than for a female than for a child.
Therefore, this becomes the first anti racial argument that was established. They talk about how
bees have different attributes, this being my state of matter, from one another, yet because they
are all bees, the same specie, we call them and categorize them as bees and nothing else. If that is
the case, we are all humans. Life can be better if we avoid an everyday pre judgment state... Show

Nevertheless, I went with my day with that in mind and it was surprisingly a good experience. I
met a couple of people that I would ve judged immediately and provably never speak to them
because they seem homosexual; yet when I started talking to them I found out we are not that
different. They were incredibly funny and not to say real good people. If I wouldn t had talked
to them like I did with no pre judgement I wouldn t have met this two incredible people. I have
always avoided and felt distanced to people that are homosexual; yet I had never given the
opportunity to any of them to actually know them and give a better judgment out of that. After
seeing this result in only one day of my life and seeing how people are not really what they seem
all the time I can certainly say that for a better life a non pre judgmental attitude towards the world

Summary OfThe Treasure Of The Sierra Madre
In the 1948 film, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre begins off with a Dobbs journey to obtain
money in different ways. Along the way, he meets a man named Curtin that lended him a cigar.
By the looks of it, both of the men got to know each other quickly since they had the same
interest in finding new ways of making money after all they did not have much of it. Curtins
was tired of living that hard life. As luck would have it they met an old timer named Howard
who claims to know how to find gold in a Mexican Mountain. Dobbs and Howard accompany
him considering the fact that he was old and would not be able to do much heavy lifting. As
long as everyone came along with the agreement that they would split the money equally. Both
of the men, Dobbs and Curtin, had a realization as they were heading into the mountains that
they have a great deal in learning how to find the gold. Over the span of a couple of months,
they accumulated thousands of dollars worth of gold. One day Curtin went into town for
supplies and met a fellow American from Texas named Cody. Cody was suspicious of Curtin
because of the possibility of gold in the mountains. Without Curtin knowing, Cody followed him
back to the campsite where he discovered that gold did exist on the mountain. All three of the
men, Howard, Dobbs and Curtin, got selfish and wanted the gold for themselves. They talked

Essay on The Raise of the West
The rise of the west in the past two to three hundred years has coincided with the rise in the
popularity of democratic governments in the west, such as the US and France. This can be seen as
evidence showing that democracy stimulates economic growth since democratisation often
precedes growth. Others may argue that the reverse is true and economic growth is the driving
forces behind democratization in the west. For example, the French revolutionwas partly caused by
the rise of the middle classBourgeoisie in the 18th century demanding more rights than the ancien
regime could offer. In this paper, I will analyse and examine the correlation and causal relation
between these two factors.

This removed the monarch s power to grant monopolies and also provided a relatively more free
market in Britain.
Along with historical evidences, contemporary studies have also appeared to support the argument
that democracy can indeed promote economic growth. Rodrik (1999) has shown in his study that
GDP per capita and democracy has a correlation of 2.48. Democracy here is measured with the
Freedom House measure of democracy which ranges from 0 to 1 with 0 representing a complete
totalitarian government and 1 representing a full representative democracy. The estimation of
0.28 is fairly significant since an increase in 0.1 point of the index leads to a prediction of an
increase in 0.248% of growth rate. This increase in predicted growth is a result in the better
economic freedom and rule of law that democracy can offer. This is also shown in Rodrik s
study that democracy is correlated with rule of law with a coefficient of 0.29, with the same
definition of democracy and measures. This is supported by Barro s study which has shown that
there is a linear correlation between rule of law (measured by the political risk indicator for

Tabriz and Carpet
1. (a) Riya Didwania Elizabeth Burge s poem Ispahan Carpet is an extended metaphor which
aims to compare the beauty of the traditional Persian carpet (known as the Ispahan carpet) to the
appalling conditions in which the carpet makers are forced to dwell. The central theme of the
poem is to emphasize on the exploitation of children which is prevalent in various parts of the
world. This leads to the end of all the hope and optimism that ever prevailed in the lives of the
children to have a future; a future which is bright and helps them flee away from all the misery and
desolation of carpetweaving. It intends to create awareness about child labour which remains
unnoticed and ignored through out the world. The poem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

since the speaker terms their eyes as those whose whole horizon is the carpet . Even though the

Feelings of dissatisfaction as well as curiosity are conveyed as the speaker wonders why terrible

of the girls which is being exclusively sacrificed to create it. As the tourist places her plump (

towards her. The large eyes of the girl signify her loneliness and solitude and bring about a feeling
of compassion in the reader. Speaking darkness has been juxtaposed in this stanza. The speaker
along with an emotion of empathy also has a deep sense of admiration and respect for the girls.

Child Poverty in New Zealand
Child poverty is a major and complex issue that New Zealand faces today. The degree is far more
severe than the public s perception and it is a problem that we cannot afford to ignore. A
combination of factors contributes to child poverty, from individual causes at the micro level to the
macro collective government involvement. This occurs partly due to social construction and it is
potentially avoidable. The consequences can impact on both individual and to a great extent affect
significantly on the country as a whole. If the issue is not resolved, the inequality will continue, if

Socio economic factors are widely acknowledged as important determinants of poverty. If an
individual experiences adverse living conditions in childhood, majority of them will have
inadequate income and result in low socio economic status as adults (Carroll et al, 2011). Children
born in poor households have difficulty in accessing the basic needs (e.g. food, clothing, and good
living environment) and this can affect their learning ability at school, unable to focus. In other
words, they have a higher chance of dropping out of school or lower education attainment, unable
to provide appropriate qualifications when they move onto adulthood, seeking for job
opportunities. These children are finding day to day life tough, they are living in cold, damp
houses, do not have warm or rain proof clothing, their shoes are worn, and many days they go
hungry (Children s Commissioner, 2012). Often this has taken place over a long period of time,
impacting on their development, behaviour and physical health furthermore limiting their potential
as they grow into adults.
Unemployment or underemployment can cause significant household stressors; parent may feel
incompetent to meet the basic needs for their children, unable to make ends with financial
problems. Consequently, individual seek alcohol and drug as a way to escape their problems. This
could lead to child abuse; children who suffer from this can develop emotional,

Women During The Revolutionary War
Women serving in the military is a topic that most people have very strong convictions on. Rather
you are for or against women serving, you can find strong opinions that support both sides in this
contentious dispute. Women have struggled to fit into the military life for years. Even though
woman have fought alongside men in each key battle from the start of the American Revolution,
they still find it hard to shake the stereo types about womanwho serve. Woman have always had to
cloak themselves in a masquerade of sorts to serve alongside men. When woman were finally
accepted into the military, they were given secondary roles to the men. The Pentagon has just
recently began to realize that gender really do not matter on the battlefield. Since the Pentagons
enlightenment, one can now see progress in the integration of women in all expanding military
careers. Women have always proven that they are not only an asset to the military but they are the
strength of the America s military.
Revolutionary War Times
During the Revolutionary War, women played major roles in combat. From supportive positions
like maids, cooks and nurses to auxiliary roles such as spies or secret soldiers. The Daughters of
Liberty did more than their share to help win America s independence. Deborah Samson Gannett,
from Plymouth, Massachusetts, concealed herself as a soldier named Robert Shurtlieff Samson.

Anzac Day In Australia
The torment: remembering what you left behind and even worse; the prospect that you may never
return. Watching the eyes of your comrade s glaze over, while your mind explodes with horror.
Nobody can possibly question the fear, the blood, the heartache, and the terrors that haunted those
men for the rest of their lives. Sometimes, we just see all soldiers as one body, one personality; we
forget that each soldier, though fighting for the same cause, had his own moral and mental battles
to attend to. Maybe this is because it s simply too painful for us to comprehend, or maybe it is due
to the generic persona given to the soldiers by the Anzac legend. The Gallipoli campaign, though a

Some began to argue that the celebrations glorified war and allowed it to be justified. This was
rivalled by the opinion that the Gallipoli tragedies were a defining moment in Australian history,
and that Anzac day had the ability to unify the nation. Those who question the relevance of the
Anzac legend today do so in danger of being labelled as unpatriotic and disrespectful, when in
reality, the legend leaves a lot of deserving people unrepresented. Many
Australians can trace their ancestry back to a person involved in WW1, which means that families
tend to have a more emotional attachment to the topic, and they find comfort and pride in the
Anzac legend.
Although the legend doesn t really capture the diversity amongst the people who stepped up to
answer the call, nor their varying experiences, it gives depth to our nations history, and shows the
raw emotion and the kindred spirit of all the soldiers. There are so many untold stories; so many
hidden identities, and although we can never completely rectify that, it is crucial that we seek out

Jimmy to want to make this transformation because he knew that an honest girl would never fall in

Another literary device used by O. Henry is irony. Ben Price let Jimmy go even after he saw
Jimmy doing the thing that was the reason Ben was searching for him in the first place. Ben

Voltaire Use Of Optimism In Candide
Voltaire uses a lot of sarcasm to explain how he views the world. He believes that it is not just
enough to believe in some values and morals. What is important is that the actions of a person
ought to reflect on their beliefs perfectly. Voltaire goes ahead to argue that the experiences of life
are vital to the functionality of reason. Meaning that the knowledge one will have is dependent on
their experiences in life. In Candide, Voltaireshows several ways by which human beings view the
world, optimism coming out as the most obvious. It was Candide s optimism that kept him from a
state of misery. His optimism was hard to destroy. For instance, when he was with martin, testing

Frank Mc Court, the author of Angela s Ashes, was born during the Great Depression. A few years
after immigrating to the United States because their families believed they would find their fortune
here, his Irish family moved back to Ireland in hopes of a better life. They were met with only
more hardships in their native country. His book shows the struggle and small joys of daily life

the people in Ireland lived at that time. The author tells the story from the viewpoint of Frank, the

Frank s mother was forced to seek Relief, the Irish version of America s welfare system. She also
sought help from the Catholic and Protestant Church in feeding her family. The iron in the book
was that help was not given out without an accompanying sermon, in hopes of persuasion to join
one or the other. Mc Court depicts those in charge of the Relief system as being biased and
unchristian type of people who looked down on those they were in a position to help. (p. 150)
There are many amusing stories in the book revolving around the way the young children had to
fend for themselves while their parents sought work. In an effort to keep their apartment heated
throughout an especially cold winter, the children tore apart the furniture, and when that was gone
they began to use the wood from the walls. When the landlord came to see the apartment, he
commented that he thought he had rented them a 4 room apartment when it was only a 3 room, not
realizing they had torn out an entire wall. (p. 79)
Even those relatives who had some money were not always eager to help the family. They were
critical of the drunken father and for the mother who continued having children they could not
support. Ironically, however, when there was a death in the family, everyone showed up

Comparing Voltaire s And Socrates Views On The Study Of...
The study of philosophy has played a role in a history throughout history. Many beliefs and
attitudes have emerged as a result of inquiries from various scholars who have studied this realm.
Socrates and Voltaire are two notable scholars who had similar and distinct attitudes about
philosophy. This paper will compare and contrast their views regarding philosophyand provide
insight to my personal views. Socratesview regarding philosophy was the attempt to seek truth and
wisdom that would serve a guide for his life (Pecorino, 2010). He believed that knowledge
provided a pathway to good and those who were familiar with the concepts of good would
choose good (Pecorino, 2010). Though the option of choosing good was not known, those who
tried to discover good concepts would inevitably have a good life (Pecorino, 2010). In contrast of
good, those who did not seek out good, were evil. Since the act of finding good is a virtue, of the
individuals who were ignorant to good were deemed evil involuntary (Pecorino, 2010).... Show

Driving Habits Affect Your Transmission
How Your Driving Habits Affect Your Transmission
Believe it or not, how your drive your vehicle play a part in how long it last. Not only does it
play a part in the life span of your car but in the transmission its self. If a person is a smooth and
attentive driver there transmission is going to last ten times longer than someone who could care
less. However, they will be caring when their transmission breaks down due to their driving.
Transmission repairs can be costly. That alone is a good reason to be a better driver. In this post
you will learn a few different driving habits to prevent in order to keep your transmission and car in
top running condition.
Excessive Speeding
Not only is speeding against the law and dangerous to other, but it is also very hard on your
transmission. When you are speeding your transmission is working double time in order to
provide so much power to your wheels. There is a difference in speeding and doing high speeds
on the highway. When you are on the highway you stay at a steady speed without excessive
accelerating. When you sand speeding in and out of traffic you never know when you will have to
slow down and speed up. this causes your transmission to work more than necessary and can
shorten the transmission s life span. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Little do they know that this is not a requirement and it is harming the transmission more than it is
helping. Downshifting is when the driver shifts into a lower gear to slow the vehicle. This bad
driving habit can cause the gears to grind and eventually wear down causing them to need to be
replaced. Downshifting causes major strain and damage to the transmission and shorten the life
span of the transmission dramatically.

The firm s profit maximizing output is less than the output associated with minimum average
cost. The firm s demand curve is not flat but is downward sloping. Thus in the long run the
demand curve will be tangential to the long run average cost curve at a point to the left of its

Primary Endosymbiosis
Endosymbiosis is one of the most fascinating concepts we have covered so far. I have heard it
said that if our extremely distant ancestor microbe had never engulfed that first mitochondria,
life as we know it would not exist, and it seems to me that is probably true. As explained by
Avissar et al., at some point around 3.5 billion years ago there was very little molecular oxygen
in Earth s atmosphere (2016). Prokaryotes called cyanobacteria evolved to use sunlight as an
energy source to break down carbon dioxide. These early prokaryotes were engulfed by other
organisms, the earliest of the eukaryotes, in a process called primary endosymbiosis. Such
cyanobacteria are still evident in the plastids found in modern eukaryotic plant cells. Their... Show

The second important endosymbiotic event occurred as a result, in the acquisition of mitochondria
by the earliest eukaryotes (Avissar et al., 2016). Mitochondria are responsible for aerobic cellular
respiration in eukaryotic cells, and for a long time it was believed that they were simply organelles.
But much like plastids in photoreactive eukaryotes, the evidence points to mitochondria having
been absorbed by early eukaryotes, forming a symbiotic relationship in which the larger cell
protected the smaller and provided a ready source of nutrients, and in turn the mitochondria
allowed the larger cells to process all of the new molecular oxygen as an energy source to promote
glycolysis (Cooper, 2000).
Another strong piece of evidence that points to plastids and mitochondria having once been distinct
organisms from their eukaryotic hosts is the fact that unlike other cell organelles, they contain their
own DNA and reproduce independently (though in sync with) their host cells (Avissar et al.,
2016). This was first observed when a biologist noticed that mitchondria seem to move on their
own, independent of the host cell s movement. Clearly this arrangement has been a winning one,
since the results of these kinds of endosymbiosis have persisted and evolved for billions of

Barbie the Teenage Fashion Doll Essay examples
The idea of Barbie came about when a woman named Ruth Handler was watching her daughter
play with dolls. In the 1950 s, girls of all ages only had paper or cardboard dolls to play with and
preferred to play with cut outs of teenagers and adult dolls. So, Ruth Handler thought to make The
Teenage Fashion Dollfor older girls, as a three dimensional doll, called Barbie, named after her
daughter Barbara (Heppermann 2010). However, Mrs. Handler met resistance when she went to
her husband with the idea, and he didn t think her idea would work out. When they travelled to
Germany, she found a doll called Bild Lilli. This doll was a strong minded individual that would
use all at her disposal to get what she wanted. Bild Lilli was... Show more content on

Young girls usually use the dolls to play house or dress up. Sometimes when there is an
accompanying set, there are simple instructions given for example, if the Barbie doll came with the
Glam Fashion Jet, it would be accompanied with instructions of how to use each part of the jet.
Moreover, Barbies are very durable and depending on how well they are maintained, they can
become family heirlooms and be passed on from generation to generation. Often, depending on
the age of the child, the Barbie may be altered either by the cutting of her hair or the changing of
her clothes. Yet, due to the fact that Barbie is a lifestyle toy, children are encouraged to continue
these alterations to promote creative thought. Therefore overall, Barbies can last indefinitely with
proper care or be short lived if they are not well taken care of.
Barbie s popularity spread like wildfire, leading to her being used as a platform to immortalize
popular figures by way of making special editions figures of them. For instance, America s First
Lady in the 60s, Jackie Kennedy was one of the first muses and hence set precedence for future
icons. This also extends to many designers such as Christian Louboutin, Vera Wang, and Alexander
McQueen who have collaborated with Mattel to celebrate Barbie s 50TH anniversary, in 2009
(Parker, 2008). This form of branding provides notoriety for both the inspirational figure and his
work and for the toy as well. This is no small feat for

Dealing with Radioactive Waste
Radioactive Waste
Regardless of the future of nuclear power, the need to control and manage radioactive waste will
persist for many decades. The objective of any radioactive waste management programme must be
that undue burdens on future generations are avoided. Nuclear Energy Agency
Radioactive Waste
Have you seen or heard the news lately? Radioactive waste water contamination... Contracts for the
disposal of radioactive waste... Nuclear sites and dumps leaking... Cancer and Death by Radiation...
What is all this? More importantly what is radioactive waste?
Radioactive waste. What is it? Radioactive waste is what the name says it is; radioactive and
waste. Basically, it is anything that has been exposed to a radioactive nuclear substance and is
not in use of anyone anymore so it is declared as trash. Also bear in mind that any definitions or
information varies in different countries. Now, there are many different types of waste, ranging
from the least amount of hazard to the greatest amount of hazard. The ones with the least
amount of radioactivity tend to have shorter lives. They decay in less than 30 years and are
called, short lived . The ones with a greater amount of radioactivity perish in more than 30 years
and are called, long lived . Let s break these types of wastes into three parts. Low level waste
(LLW), Intermediate level waste (ILW), and High level waste (HLW).
Low level waste are objects that we deem small or unimportant and have been infected with

Video Compression Video compression uses modern coding techniques to reduce redundancy in
video data. Video compression typically operates on square shaped groups of neighboring pixels,
often called macro blocks. These pixel groups or blocks of pixels are compared from one frame to
the next and the video compression code sends only the differences within those blocks. In areas of
video with more motion, the compression must encode more data to keep up with the larger
number of pixels that are changing. Generally, the motion field in video compression is assumed to
be translational with horizontal component and vertical component and denoted in vector form by

Analysis Of Nahco3 In Alka Seltzer Tablets Lab Report
What Is the Percent by Mass of NaHCO3 in Alka Seltzer Tablets?
When it comes to understanding how starting material and product effect each other, it has been
inevitably thought that the amount of starting material has always included a limiting and excess
reactant that conclusively determines the product amount. The Lab Manual stated in applicable
cases, such as buying amounts of starting material to form a certain product, could change a
reaction, or have economic effects of wasting unnecessary amounts of material, therefore,
unnecessary amounts of money.1 For instance, determining the amount of active ingredients in the
fizz reaction of an Alka Seltzer tablet is a great example to understand how much reactant is needed
to cause the relief (determined by the product) according to the Lab Manual.1 According to
researcher Dr. Catherine Chen, sodium bicarbonate is used for the acid base netrualization.2 The Lab
Manual presented the following reaction in which the active ingredient in Alka Seltzer tablets
sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) reacted with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the amount of carbon dioxide lost was found, stoichiometry lets the loss of carbon dioxide to
help find the amount of sodium bicarbonate reacted. Moreover, the mass of sodium bicarbonate
and the mass of the original tablet help calculate the percent by mass of sodium bicarbonate. An
observation made is that the changing amounts in each trial according to Table 1.1 show that, with
changing amounts of starting material, the mass of carbon dioxide and the mass of sodium
bicarbonate are inevitably affected. However, looking closely at Figure 1.1, the amounts of vinegar
added increased in the experiment consequently making it the excess reactant to the sodium
bicarbonate causing the graph in Figure 1.1 to level out. The tables should then show a steady
increase in the percent by mass in the tablet and the amount of carbon dioxide

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Case Study
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a very rare and severe autoimmune disease. While the symptoms
vary, lupus commonly affects the skin, joints, and mucous membrane (Brown, Bond, Waldron,
2014). However, systemic lupus erythematosus (or lupus, for short) can become a multi organ
disease resulting in further complications. Because lupus is so rare and the symptoms vary,
diagnosis is difficult and often does not occur until the disease is in its latter stages. However, in the
detection of the disease, Brown, Bond, and Waldron (2014) express the importance of noticing
certain common symptoms in young females, which are severe fatigue, mouth ulcers, headaches,
rashes (especially those caused by the sun), and flitting arthralgasis (joint pain) and... Show more

Affecting primarily African American women in their child rearing years, between the ages of
15 and 40, lupus (for short) has a variety of symptoms. Diagnosis is rare due to differing
symptoms, yet detection is possible with the age of advanced technology. While diagnosis often
does not occur until lupus is in its latter stages, there are precursors Brown, Bond, and Waldron
(2014) encourage healthcare professionals to lookout for. Lupus is believed to develop in
individuals who are genetically predisposed to it and exposed to certain environmental factors.
Such factors include smoking and certain hormones that are directly affected by stress. Studies
have shown that despite whether stress precedes or antecedes smoking, smoking is used as a stress
management technique. Being a poor one, few smokers know that smoking often results in an
increase in stress levels. Likewise, certain hormones like estrogen and prolactin increase with
stress. Both hormones of which are related to inflammation and immunodeficiency which can
precede a lupus flare. Despite this, studies have shown biofeedback assisted cognitive behavioral
treatment and chronic disease self management programs to be effective in directly lowering stress
levels and indirectly managing lupus symptoms and flares. There is room for more research to be
done, but for now, such studies support need for stress management techniques in the lives of lupus

Atlanta Exposition Address Analysis
Booker T. Washington gave his famous Atlanta Exposition Address on September 18, 1895.
This speech was considered definitive in Washington s accomodationist strategy in response to
racial tensions in the South. In this speech, Washington responded to the question of what could
be done about the dreadful social and economic conditions of blacks and the relationship
between the southern blacks and whites. In this speech, he urged racial cooperation along with
acceptance of social segregation as a price to pay in order to receive education and economic
security. His speech was praised by some, such as Clark Howell of the Atlanta Constitution, for
political passivity compromising ideas in that time of prejudice. (archive.org) It was also
criticized by others such as W.E.B. Du Bois for accepting the idea of separate but equal . The
time period in which the Atlanta Exposition Address was delivered was referred to as the Post
Reconstruction Era . Within this era, there was institutionalized racism and legal discrimination.
Blacks were legally able to vote, however there were things like poll taxes and discriminatory
laws, such as the grandfather clause, that were put in place to discourage black voters. There was
also anti black violence such as lynching and riots including the Atlanta Race Riot of 1906
(Components of Jim Crow PowerPoint, slide 10) and the Tusla Race Riot of 1921. Both of these
riots combined saw just under 100 blacks killed and hundreds injured. (African

Eating The Body Mass Index ( B.m ) Essay
I love pasta! It has always been one of my favorite foods, but now that I have changed my diet in
an effort to lose more weight and more importantly lower my Body Mass Index (B.M.I.), I have
to be conscious of every portion that I eat. Meaning, I have to go easy on the lasagna. Don t you
just love lasagna? It is just so yummy. Ok, now back to the topic at hand. Pastaoften gets a bad rap
because it is a complex carbohydratewhich is also known as a starch. Starches are an important
source of energy for the body and the only way that the brain gets energy. Starches can also be
fattening if you eat too many of them, but if you eat too much of anything and don t burn those
calories, you will gain weight. Pasta has been criticized for being a simple carbohydrate and is
sometimes put into the same category as cake, pastries and white bread. Simple carbohydrates
increase blood sugar which creates an excess of insulin being secreted. Excess insulin encourages
weight gain. Though simple carbohydrates have a high Glycemic Index, pasta s GI is 41 which
is similar to pears and lower than many different breads. The Glycemic Index is the number that is
used to measure how quickly the body s blood sugar rises after food is eaten. According to Jennie
Brand Miller, Professor of Human Nutritionat the University of Sydney and co author of The New
Glucose Revolution: The Authoritative Guide to the Glycemic Index, A pasta meal is very healthy
if it uses vegetable or tomato sauce and/or

A little bit later the cops barge in only to arrest...Yossarian, for not having a pass in Rome. Even
the cops in the world of Catch 22 are insane, it seems that all sense of logic is gone. This is just
one instance of insanity that commonly occurs throughout the novel. Even the main character
Yossarian is considered insane by other characters since he refuses to fly more combat missions
even though everybody else does. This is shown in a conversation with characters Dr. stubbs and

That s just what I mean, Dr. Stubbs answered. That crazy bastard may be the only sane one left.

Descriptive Essay About Rodeo
Maureen Fenoll
Ms.Marton
Language Arts 7 1
9 November 2017
The Rodeo Horses running, bulls bucking, and flame throwing are all things that you could see
at a rodeo. When I was in the fifth grade I went to a rodeo with my girl scout troup . We saved up
for almost a whole year. We sold cookies, earned money, and waited for the exciting weekend trip
to A.J Ranch.
A.j Ranch is a beautiful place it has horses, stables, a rodeo arena, campsite and much more. We
stayed in a little cabin, in the woods on their property. It was really small, there were four bunk
beds, and a loft. Our troop leader Tabitha Amelia s mom, and Emma s mom and Bella s moms
stayed up in the loft, there was three cots. Back on the main floor my troup (a total of 8 girls)
slept in bunks. Hailee and I shared a bunk. I slept on the bottom bunk , and Hailee on the top.
On the second night of our stay at A.j Ranch we went to the rodeo. A.j Ranch has a lot of
property, we had to ride a wagon from our cabin in the woods to the ranch where the rodeo was
being held.
On the other side of the ranch people were preparing for the rodeo, but first there was a big
BBQ. They roasted a gigantic pig over the fire. It looked delicious, and the scent smelled so good
that you wanted to eat it all. They had everything there, there was a long line of tables full of food,
just talking about this is making my mouth water.
Once we had food in our tummies, we headed over to take our seats. We sat at the top of the
bleachers you

Information Literacy and Scholarship, Practice, and Leadership in IT Management
R. Dannels

IT (Information Technology) management entails all the routine issues faced by any type of
business manager in addition to the issues of software development, technology purchasing (not
necessarily physical items), systems integration, the limits of technology and the related budgetary
issues. General information literacy is important for any level of IT manager, as he or she needs to
communicate successfully using many different modes, media, and technology with all types of IT
workers, upper management, and technology product vendors. IT management also entails
leadership of projects or departments. Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sheer volume of information of all types is ever increasing, making the job of IT manager more
difficult. To remain competent, IT managers must keep up with the latest trends and new
technologies. The evaluation of new technology is another skill related to information literacy,
since the information describing such technology can take many forms. The best IT managers are
highly skilled in such evaluations. These effective managers seem to be rare, as found in Li (2009).
That study found that to deal with the difficulties of IT management, many organizations used
encroachment, to save face for executives by simplifying and deflecting harmful results and
analysis. This spreads the managerial blame and deals with the well documented fact (every
computer science student is taught this) that over 60% of all technology projects fail and software
development projects in particular fail even more frequently. The reasons for the failure of such
projects include the incompetence of IT management (Toader et al., 2010). This is increasingly
exemplified by the inability to communicate effectively with workers of foreign origin and incorrect
evaluations of technology. The lost revenue of software projects is a huge number and that problem
is not getting better. Since dealing with cross cultural management and the evaluation of new
technology are skills learned in information literacy, the lack of formal information literacy classes

II SWOT Analysis
Introduction
In the business world today, there is nothing more constant than change. As such, most businesses
would do well to pay attention to what is going on around them in order to assess anything that
may be deemed a threat or a possible opportunity. A common practice in assessing this may be
performed utilizing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis, which may
be beneficial during the planning process and when designing and refining business strategy
(Helms Nixon, 2010). As most large organizations perform a SWOT on a regular basis, it is also
noted that entrepreneurs have been successfully utilizing this tool as well (Ames Runco, 2005).

Ethics of the Nuremberg Code Essay
From 1946 to 1947, the Nuremberg War Crime Trials took place, withfifteen of twenty three
German physicians and research scientist physicians found guilty of criminal human
experimentation projects. The trial court attempted to establish a set of principles of human
experimentation that could serve as a code of research ethics. The result was the Nuremberg Code,
which attempted to provide a natural law based set of universal ethical principles.Looking beyond
the Nuremberg Code and applying it to modern medical researchethics, there are many challenges
that it poses. Many have argued that the Code tries to provide for all unforeseen events, which
restricts the researcher by requiring him to anticipate every situation, demanding the... Show more

Hence, a proxy was given to those who did not have legal capacity allowing researchers to expand
their population for experimentation.
The term informed has also been criticized because sometimes even the researcher is not aware of
the risks associated with the experiment or they are too technical for the subject to understand.
Thus scientists have argued that only adequate information should be released to the patient and a
full understanding is not necessary. In this clause, responsibilities are placed on the individual who
is initiating, directing, or engaging the experiment but there is no place for the researcher to be
reviewed for his actions. The scientist is in full control of making any necessary ethical
deliberations. The Declaration of Helsinki added a clause stating experimental protocols should be
transmitted to a specially appointed independent committee for consideration and comments. The
third principle of the Code addresses the justification of the performance of the experiment based
on previous studies done on animals. This may be challenged because the researcher cannot always
guarantee success of the experiment even though it has been successful on animals or in previous
studies. Uncertainties in the experiment will always be present. The Declaration of Helsinki does not

and regulations. These rules stated that DuPont had to control Conoco immediately before the split

motivated by a valid business purpose. Also DuPont had to get rid of all Conoco stock so it
would not have any control over the company after the deal was completed. Conoco had to be
recapitalized or reorganized into two classes of common stock. Class A stock that carried one

later disbursement to DuPont shareholders in the exchange offer. Prior to the IPO, Conoco would
have to issue a $7.5 billion promissory note to DuPont as a dividend. The payment would be tax
free to both parties because at the time DuPont owned all of Conoco. Conoco would in turn, use the
proceeds to pay back part of the note and other intercompany notes with DuPont.

Inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) is characterized by increased glial activation, pro inflammatory cytokine concentration, blood brain barrier permeability, and leukocyte invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Microglia are cells that support and protect neuronal functions (Lee at al. 2010). They act as the first and main form of active immune defense that orchestrate the endogenous immune response of the Central Nervous System. The microglia play a central role in the cellular response to pathological lesions such as AОІ. AОІ can attract and activate microglia, leading to clustering of microglia around AОІ deposits sites in the brain (Lee et al. 2010). Even though microglia have neuroprotective functions, neurotoxic mechanisms which involves continuous activation of microglia and toxic factors are released by microglia, which may lead to neuroinflammation (Lee et al. 2010). Astrocytes (star shaped glial cells) are the most abundant cells in the brain and are located in the brain and spinal. Astrocytes have various functions such as: biochemical support of endothelial cells of the BBB, supplying nutrients to the nervous tissue, maintenance of extracellular ion balance, and healing the brain and spinal cord following traumatic injury (Lee et al., 2010). Chemokines are released by astrocytes which attract microglia and they further express proinflammatory products, thus increasing neuronal damage in the pathogenesis of AD (Lee et al., 2010). Astrocytes play a critical role in AГџ clearance and degradation, and they also provide trophic support to neurons forming a protective barrier between AГџ deposits and neurons (Wyss Coray et al., 2003). • 4. Theme Of Voices In The City By Anita Desai Abstract: Unlike other women novelists, Anita Desai concentrates on the exploration of sensibility, that too feminine sensibility by probing deep into the inner life of a woman. Desai reigns supreme in her fictional world by focusing attention towards the quest inward and concentrating on the still grimmer and more harrowing presentation of Indian life. In fact all her characters are sensitive, solitary and hyper introspective. Her fiction balances itself delicately on the fringes between things and awareness of things, between chaos and order of mind. Her primary interest lies in exploring the disturbed depths of the female psyche. . The most prominent feature of her fiction is her mode of individualizing the character. She is preoccupied primarily with the portrayal of women protagonists as living in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Essay On Veterans Ethics Over the last decade or so we have seen our country fail our Veterans on so many different levels. The U.S. Governments treatment of our Veterans has come under fire because so many of our Veterans are not being adequately taken care of. Some would say this is a mere oversight in our government, but to me it is a lack of ethics. Menzel defines Ethics as values and principles that guide right and wrong behavior. When we look at the landscape of our Government beginning with the Executive office we see a lack of leadership in my opinion. The President of the United States should be the biggest advocate for our Veterans. Unfortunately, we see decisions that are made based on political motives instead of what s right for the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the... There is plenty of empty promises that are being made all while many of our Veterans are lacking adequate medical care or are struggling to keep a roof over their heads while suffering from issues that are related to war. We have Senators and Congressman who is paid handsomely, and who receives better care than many of our veterans do. Many veterans have to wait extended periods of time before they can receive care, most are making pennies compared to our elective officials whose interest are only in special interest groups who gives millions of dollars to them in campaign money. According to Legistorm members of Congress make $174,000 a year, the Speak of the House makes $223,000; this is five times and six times what the average veteran makes in our country. We rely on these individuals to make policies and laws to help people, especially our veterans. With the past corruptions at several VA Facilities, we see that the best interest of our Veterans is not being made a priority even though our President and Congress have made pledges to help these ... • 7. Howard Zinn Chapter Summary What evidence does Zinn offer to show the US government was not opposed to fascism on principle? Zinn first explains that the governments main interest from the start wasn t really to even stop fascism but rather to advance the counties own imperial interest. For example, Italy during this time was practicing fascism. If the The US was opposed to fascism the government would have tried to cut Italy off but instead it let American Businesses send oil to Italy. Zinn then explains how policies in the United States almost perfectly mirrored those practiced in the fascists Nations. He portrays this in two ways, first he explains the treatment of women and then explains the racism the broke out in the US towards the Japanese. Fascist nations strongly believed in fallowing gender roles. What I mean by this is that, according to fascists principle women were to basically embrace their stereotypes; staying at home and being good housewives. Even though the US was supposed to be in a war against fascism, it really didn t do anything differently to help equalize the role of women and men. Apparently other than using women in defense industries the US didn t do anything different, also keep in mind there were no other options besides women at this time. United states policies kept women out of the policy making areas and only used them for war work. Lastly, Zinn explains how the racist practices in the United starts almost perfectly imitated those seen in fascist nations. He used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Summary Of The Song Landslide Landslide, by Fleetwood Mac, is written to show how the removal of a loved one can impact someone s life negatively or positively. The theme of the song can be found in several lyric such as, Well, I ve been afraid of changin, cause I ve built my life around you (Fleetwood Mac). It is said that if a couple thinks that their relationship is not going to work out, it can tumble over at any time. The effects of shouting out and going for help may seem like a good idea, but it will just bring down the avalanche right on top of the situation and collapse everything in. In Perks of Being a Wallflower, Charlie experiences a loss of a close friend (Michael) to a suicide. Charlie has the idea of coping with this death by writing in letters to his unnamed friend and this is a reason why this is on the mixtape.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People are searching for the theme, and that can be found in the lyrics, With the lights out, it s less dangerous, / Here we are now; entertain us, / I feel stupid and contagious (Nirvana). It is said that these lyrics show the security and satisfaction after shooting up with heroin. The idea of drugs and sex is messed up but nothing can entertain a group of young teens. People are trying to introduce this idea of heroin as an idea that is better than sex, which is almost all that someone can say after shooting up too many times. • 9. Suicide -A Serious Issue Suicide is a serious issue although not uncommon. Suicide can be thought of or actually done because of different problems such as money issues, depression, or feeling alone like there is no way out. Suicide is often thought as an easy solution, people see it as the end. Although that s even if they succeed at it, they don t stop and think what if they fail and how they can permanently injure themselves. Some people think that others claim they might do it to receive attention, which is probably true but only very few times. Either way it is not worth risking. According to the centers for disease control and prevention suicideis the eleventh cause of death among Americans overall, it is the third leading cause of death among young people in the U.S. Young people have a tendency of thinking if something goes wrong it s the end of the world. One of the main causes of suicide is money. Although some people believe money is the key to happiness that is not true. In refrance to our text book De Botton, We can regard our life as a uselessly disturbing episode in the blissful repose of nothingness. Human existence must be a kind of error. It may be said of it, it is bad today and everyday it will get worst, until the worst of all happends. This was said by philosophers Schopenhauer s father. Schopenhauer s father was believed to have committed suicide, although he was a wealthy man. Schopenhauer s father made sure to leave a fortune for his seventeen year old soon, to ... • 10. Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the story, Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless people don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and painting them a color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space, Staples makes the reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see his perspective. Staples emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces through the use of explicit language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman (197). Using the word victim , he expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view. Additionally, using the word victim provides the reader with a different perspective on how the person who is being perceived as being a threat feels. The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the heart is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). • 11. Teacher Resistance Can Cause Barriers When Implementing... History of Resistance Technology is not a modern, 21st century word. Technology has been in our society, and our classrooms for that matter, for quite some time. According to Seattler (1990) integration of televisions into the classroom started in the 1950 s and has evolved to bigger and better things since then. When first introduced, televisions were given put in classrooms with the expectation that when turned on, teaching practices would be transformed and problems in instruction and student performance would be solved. This movement was met by resistance, as described by Cuban (1986); teachers were not willing to integrate this technology into their teaching practices. Not only were teachers untrained on how to use this new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One must try an idea out, fail or succeed, then evaluate the effectiveness by analyzing the results. After this process, a decision about future activities can be made, and then taken through the same process. Once examined further, it is not merely a time issue, but also an educator comfort issue. If given a task of implementing technology with little or no training, then expected to transform student thinking in new and exciting ways, one cannot blame a teacher for feeling overwhelmed and perhaps resistant to doing so. The current system must be examined and addressed as technology is being poured into education at a fast rate, and districts must find a way to support teachers in this overwhelming endeavor of not only learning the technology, but learning to teach with it. Solution Number One Teachers must be trained in a new type of pedagogy, one that involves the use of technology. As stated by Cuban (2001) teachers end up using technology as means to mealy keep up with what they required to do, such as check daily messages from administration and keep grades, communicate with the staff, create letters to go home, and to create materials for their lessons such as handouts. Although this is a form of using technology, it is far from the desired use of using the given classroom technology for innovations in their teaching style. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Important Factors That Affect Plant Growth And Development... 3.1 Introduction Chamomile and yarrow are both medicinal plants cultivated all over the world in an effort to determine the main active compounds from plant materials. The main factors that influence plant growth and development are temperature, light, and plant date. An extensive amount of studies have been done on the effect of controlled conditions on the growth of in vitro and in vivo chamomile and yarrow cultures (Giorgi et al., 2014; Mohammad et al., 2010). Date of planting and ages of seedling had significant effects on chamomile morphological characterizations. The maximum values for plant spread, plant height, and shoots produced, number of branches production and the diameter of flower heads was observed from 15th April compared to 1st May, 15th May and 30th May. Nevertheless, all measurement characteristics were not significantly affected by the ages of seedling except for, plant spread and plant height at transplanting. The highest plant spreads were obtained after 30 days of seedlings, whereas the maximum plant heights were examined after 90 days of seedlings (Mohammad et al., 2010). On the other hand, growing season and light environment were two factors which strongly affected all growth parameters of yarrow during different growing seasons. The fresh and dry weight of stem/leaf ratio, the leaves and the fresh weight of inflorescence were mainly influenced by light conditions (Giorgi et al., 2014). Its basic function is to describe the relationship between risk and expected return, which is often used to estimate a cost of equity (Wikipedia, 2009). It serves as a model for determining the discount rate which is used in calculating net present value. The CAPM says that the expected return of a security or a portfolio equals the rate on a risk free security plus a risk premium. The formula is: R = Rf + *(E(Rm) Rf) Rf = Risk free rate of return, usually U.S. treasury bonds ( ) ОІ = Beta for a company E(Rm) = Expected return of the market (commercial airlines market) E(Rm) Rf = Sometimes ... The Boeing s capital structure is that the weight of debt is 34.4% and the weight of equity is 65.6%. The well known black garbed assassins, known as ninjas, are commonly considered to be Japanese in origin. Though ninjas themselves are from Japan, their philosophy or ideals actually came from China. In the fourth century, a man named Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War. This collection of ideas heavily influenced the way of the ninja. Therefore, the idea of the ninja came from China, but the ninjas were trained and fought in Japan. In the tenth century through the fifteenth centuries, the ninjas were in heavy demand. Japan was a fractured nation at this time. There was no true central power to unify all the different nobles. Without this central power the warlords fought each other. During this time ninjas were used regularly (Grabainowski). However, in the Tokugawa period, Tokugawa was able to unify Japan. This meant that the ninjas were no longer needed. Furniss (1992) recognized that theorists predicted that GPS satellites could be used to provide air traffic control surveillance and communications as well as navigational support and reduce traffic management costs by reducing the need for costly and inefficient ground based systems. This projection has come into view in recent years and has begun to shape the progress in specific air service based industries, including the air cargo industry. Others may argue that the reverse is true and economic growth is the driving forces behind democratization in the west. Many Australians can trace their ancestry back to a person involved in WW1, which means that families tend to have a more emotional attachment to the topic, and they find comfort and pride in the Anzac legend. Although the legend doesn t really capture the diversity amongst the people who stepped up to answer the call, nor their varying experiences, it gives depth to our nations history, and shows the raw emotion and the kindred spirit of all the soldiers. The story conveys that people can change, and being able to accept people when they change is very generous and is a sophisticated thing to do. Jimmy made a living from robbing banks and people all over the country wanted to capture him. Whenever he was placed in jail, he would always get bailed out shortly afterwards. The iron in the book was that help was not given out without an accompanying sermon, in hopes of persuasion to join one or the other. Mc Court depicts those in charge of the Relief system as being biased and unchristian type of people who looked down on those they were in a position to help. In an effort to keep their apartment heated throughout an especially cold winter, the children tore apart the furniture, and when that was gone they began to use the wood from the walls. When the landlord came to see the apartment, he commented that he thought he had rented them a 4 room apartment when it was only a 3 room, not realizing they had torn out an entire wall. (p. 79) Even those relatives who had some money were not always eager to help the family. Many beliefs and attitudes have emerged as a result of inquiries from various scholars who have studied this realm. Socrates and Voltaire are two notable scholars who had similar and distinct attitudes about philosophy. This paper will compare and contrast their views regarding philosophyand provide insight to my personal views. Socratesview regarding philosophy was the attempt to seek truth and wisdom that would serve a guide for his life (Pecorino, 2010). He believed that knowledge provided a pathway to good and those who were familiar with the concepts of good would choose good (Pecorino, 2010). Though the option of choosing good was not known, those who tried to discover good concepts would inevitably have a good life (Pecorino, 2010). • 40. Primary Endosymbiosis Endosymbiosis is one of the most fascinating concepts we have covered so far. I have heard it said that if our extremely distant ancestor microbe had never engulfed that first mitochondria, life as we know it would not exist, and it seems to me that is probably true. As explained by Avissar et al., at some point around 3.5 billion years ago there was very little molecular oxygen in Earth s atmosphere (2016). Prokaryotes called cyanobacteria evolved to use sunlight as an energy source to break down carbon dioxide. These early prokaryotes were engulfed by other organisms, the earliest of the eukaryotes, in a process called primary endosymbiosis. Such cyanobacteria are still evident in the plastids found in modern eukaryotic plant cells. Their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second important endosymbiotic event occurred as a result, in the acquisition of mitochondria by the earliest eukaryotes (Avissar et al., 2016). Mitochondria are responsible for aerobic cellular respiration in eukaryotic cells, and for a long time it was believed that they were simply organelles. But much like plastids in photoreactive eukaryotes, the evidence points to mitochondria having been absorbed by early eukaryotes, forming a symbiotic relationship in which the larger cell protected the smaller and provided a ready source of nutrients, and in turn the mitochondria allowed the larger cells to process all of the new molecular oxygen as an energy source to promote glycolysis (Cooper, 2000). Another strong piece of evidence that points to plastids and mitochondria having once been distinct organisms from their eukaryotic hosts is the fact that unlike other cell organelles, they contain their own DNA and reproduce independently (though in sync with) their host cells (Avissar et al., 2016). This was first observed when a biologist noticed that mitchondria seem to move on their own, independent of the host cell s movement. Clearly this arrangement has been a winning one, since the results of these kinds of endosymbiosis have persisted and evolved for billions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As such, most businesses would do well to pay attention to what is going on around them in order to assess anything that may be deemed a threat or a possible opportunity. A common practice in assessing this may be performed utilizing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis, which may be beneficial during the planning process and when designing and refining business strategy (Helms Nixon, 2010). Ethics of the Nuremberg Code Essay From 1946 to 1947, the Nuremberg War Crime Trials took place, withfifteen of twenty three German physicians and research scientist physicians found guilty of criminal human experimentation projects. The trial court attempted to establish a set of principles of human experimentation that could serve as a code of research ethics. The result was the Nuremberg Code, which attempted to provide a natural law based set of universal ethical principles.Looking beyond the Nuremberg Code and applying it to modern medical researchethics, there are many challenges that it poses. Many have argued that the Code tries to provide for all unforeseen events, which restricts the researcher by requiring him to anticipate every situation, demanding the... The term informed has also been criticized because sometimes even the researcher is not aware of the risks associated with the experiment or they are too technical for the subject to understand. Thus scientists have argued that only adequate information should be released to the patient and a full understanding is not necessary. In this clause, responsibilities are placed on the individual who is initiating, directing, or engaging the experiment but there is no place for the researcher to be reviewed for his actions. The scientist is in full control of making any necessary ethical deliberations. The Declaration of Helsinki added a clause stating experimental protocols should be transmitted to a specially appointed independent committee for consideration and comments. The third principle of the Code addresses the justification of the performance of the experiment based on previous studies done on animals. This may be challenged because the researcher cannot always guarantee success of the experiment even though it has been successful on animals or in previous studies. Uncertainties in the experiment will always be present. The Declaration of Helsinki does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company had a long tradition of technological innovations in business and it continues to serve worldwide markets including food and nutrition; health care; agriculture; fashion and apparel; home and construction; and electronics. Among some of its inventions are nylon stockings invented in 1939, Teflon for pans, Kevlar for bullet proof vests, stainmaster for carpets, the synthetic fabric lycra, and Dacron for clothing. In 1999 the company held a portfolio of 2000 trademarks and brands. DuPont was the 15th largest company in the US with its 1998 revenue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to make the second stage completely tax free DuPont had to satisfy a number of IRS rules and regulations. These rules stated that DuPont had to control Conoco immediately before the split off, meaning that it had to control at least 80% of Conoco s stock. In addition the split had to be motivated by a valid business purpose. Also DuPont had to get rid of all Conoco stock so it would not have any control over the company after the deal was completed. Conoco had to be recapitalized or reorganized into two classes of common stock. Class A stock that carried one vote each, issued to the public and Class B stock with five votes each, retained by DuPont for later disbursement to DuPont shareholders in the exchange offer. Prior to the IPO, Conoco would have to issue a $7.5 billion promissory note to DuPont as a dividend. The payment would be tax free to both parties because at the time DuPont owned all of Conoco. Conoco would in turn, use the proceeds to pay back part of the note and other intercompany notes with DuPont. While I do agree with the Chief Operating Officer that a 100% IP of Conoco would raise a significant amount of cash to use in our core business growth internationally, allowing us to expand our global operations. I think the equity care out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
