1. Diabetes is one of the most common diseases that affect our human
community on a large scale. Diabetes is a disease that happens when
there is a spike or increase in the blood glucose level often termed as
blood sugar. Normally this blood glucose is the primary source of energy
which comes from our food intake. Insulin is the hormone from the
pancreas which helps in this process of storing and used as energy later
when needed.
Diabetes can be broadly classified into two types. Diabetes mellitus,
Type II, non-insulin dependent type, mostly inherited and the onset will
be mostly after the age of 40 years while the second is insulin-
dependent, Type I, juvenile diabetes. This happens due to low or no
production of insulin by the pancreas.
There are lots of myths prevailing in the universe regarding diabetes
affliction. Let us discuss five of such common myths here. One of the
foremost myths will be people with diabetes cannot or should not eat
sugar. In order words, it means people with diabetes should maintain a
sugar-free diet to stay safer from diabetes. In reality, people suffering
from diabetes can do well by maintaining a well-balanced diet with a
moderate amount of sugar usage.
The second most common myth is the belief that type II diabetes is mild
and affects only fat people. First of all, neither of the two types of
diabetes is mild. Even if type II diabetes patients are poorly managed it
can lead to serious and even life-threatening situations. Also, type II
diabetes not only affects fat or obese people but also affects normal
people with standard weight and even underweight people too. People
with type II diabetes can do well with adequate and proper control
irrespective of their body stature and weight.
Third common myth will be diabetic people will lose eyesight and end up
blind or end up losing their legs. Diabetes causes blindness and also the
root cause of amputations vastly but diabetic people can do well by
quitting smoking if smoking was their habit and with proper maintenance
of blood pressure, blood glucose level and body weight and by pursuing
annual diabetic check-ups every year. If these become mandate diabetic
people can prevent blindness and amputation.
Another prevailing myth will be people and children who are consuming
sugar-containing foods and excess sweet portions including chocolate,
sweets etc are at high risk of getting affected with diabetes. This is not
true that only sweet consumption can increase the risk for diabetes

passed on is from parents of their own to their children as it is hereditary
