1. Development Diary – FMP Film – Week One
Who are your main influences? Why?
Some of my main influences are the film directors, Tom Six (The Human
Centipede), David Sandberg (Lights Out) and John Carpenter (Halloween).
These three directors influence me because I love their films and their style of
film are brilliant. I wantto create something similar to them and their style
because I wantto my film look so terrifying, like theirs are. I want to create a
film that includes screaming, shouting, running and chasing. I will watch their
films and pick some ideas fromeach of their films and usethis as inspiration. I
will create similar make-up effects, use a stalker and possibleuse similar
locations to them becauseI love their films and watching them will help make
my film look better. I hope my film will have some similar elements as their
films, to me, my idea sounds terrifying, and I hope my audience think so too.
Did you find it hard to choose your main influences? Why?
Some directors that I like are similar to the influences I have chosen, but I
found it hard because someof their films would be very difficult to create,
some of the effects they use, and the budget that they have, I would not be
able to access. For example, James Wan (Saw) and his films used lots of
makeup effects for things like showing the opening of the throat and breaking
jaws, I can’tdo that with special makeup effects and also the mechanical traps
that are used in the film, I can’t create those in the time that I have. Another
director fromthe film Scream(Wes Craven) I also really like but I can’t create
something like he has becauseI want to create a “Deaf” film with Deaf actors.
Deaf people can’t use the phone, which is used a lot in Scream. Also, I can’t
create the characters to be romantic in my film because I know the actors I
will use won’tdo it becausethey will be too shy to kiss in front of the camera.
When you created your mood boards, was it easy or hard? Why?
At start I created mood boards and I found it hard because I was confused
what my mood board should be about. I spend two days whereI felt I was
getting it wrong and collecting the wrong information for my mood board. The
third day I finally got it right and I explained aboutwhy I like someimages, and
talked about details like colours, scenes, camera shots and somecreepy

2. locations. Later, I added a slide to show a broad rangeof locations, and
explained whereI might usefor my filming.
Week one, whatwent well?
I think that the proposalwentwell becauseI know what to do with the
proposal, I havewritten these before lots of times and I feel comfortable
explaining about my idea. I had lots of details about my idea and talked about
that I have some experience with filming from this year.
Week one, whatdid you strugglewith?
I really struggled with the mood boards becauseI was confused about whatI
needed to talk about here, I finally get right information on it. In also
sometimes struggled with the proposaland writing a lot becauseI am Deaf and
I use BSL (British Sign Language), which means it is hard for my spelling and
grammar, sometimes I can’t easily put into English and into words whatI
mean.
