Question 5) How did you
attract/address your audience?
By Jushna Begum
Comparing to Films (Black Swan):
Just like Black Swan, I made my film opening
have an artistic feel to it and used the use of
music to emphasise the film opening/title
sequence even more of how dramatic the
music gets depending on the camera
shot/scene in the film opening. Black Swan
emphasised their costumes, props and ballet
whilst mine (Clairvoyant) emphasises the
props, the painting and her costume

Draw the audience into the film
world?
I used music as a signifier to emphasise when the film
name title is about to start and the whole simple
piano piece music ends shows when the whole title
sequence ends. When it says the last titles “Directed
By” and the names the audience is drawn in and
understand what’s happening and when. Also the
camera shots were shot wisely especially static shots
of props in the beginning my film opening as it starts
with camera shots of no movements but gradually
starts having more movement in every camera shots
after the static montage piece, this helps with editing
of how slowly paced it is to a much faster pace later
on
Static Shots used in Clairvoyant:
How it introduces enigma codes?
This works well to attract the target audience as there is
binary opposition of the protagonist (female) painting
who happens to a male which brings enigma codes of
why the protagonist or this character in the beginning
is painting this random guy/person with all this red
colours (connoting blood), this unravels more of the
character along with more of the shots shown also
you never see her face until half way through the film
opening and there’s no back story given, no voice-
over and that creates mystery for the protagonist as
well as many questions that the audience want to
find out
Enigma Codes: What is she painting?
Binary Opposition:
There are many binary opposition like the one
previously said but there are binary
oppositions such as light vs dark, good vs evil,
truth vs lie, man vs woman, right vs wrong,
peace vs violence, life vs death and love vs
hate. So there are many aspects of binary
oppositions for the audience to consider
Conventions of the thriller genre:
The narrative conventions of a thriller genre
focuses on a mystery that needs to be solved
,with my own media product there needs to be
a mystery solved about why she’s painting this
particular picture etc, also characters in the
thriller genre face death at some point which in
the rest of my film would happen and
iconography such as blood etc would happen
,the connotations of the red paint shows that
and the violent way the protagonist is painting
as well
Ratings:
The ratings for my film would probably be an 15 or
18 depending on the amount of strong language
and violence according to the British Board of
Film Classification. But if it’s shown to be this
age rating, it will target a much older audience,
which I want (18-29 years old) so I would
achieve this by setting the age rate. This helps
target the audience very well and the audience
will be aware of how sophisticated this type of
film is even though being a thriller it’s not just a
typical thriller
Distribution/Marketing:
When distributing my film to the target audience, I
will release it around appropriate times of the
year where most audiences would watch thriller
films to keep it more popular for the audience as
well as I will market the media product to the
audience very wisely like have product
placements in art shops etc. Plus I will
specifically target/market the different type of
audience (Core, mainstream and no hope)
differently so it will be effective. For example, I
would market more to the core audiences as I
definitely want them to watch my film
