Freudian Theory And Horney s Theory
Freudian Theory and Horney s Theory: A Comparison Paper
Amy Simms
Yorkville University
Abstract
This comparison paper aims to highlight the main aspects of Freud and Horney s theories of
psychoanalysis, and begins to unravel some of the possible similarities, and many of the contrasts
between the two . Beginning with Freud, the grandfather of psychoanalysis, and comparing his set of
ideals with that of a woman who came shortly after him, Karen Horney with not only a new set of
views on psychoanalysis but a fresh new look on gender in society, much due to the culture and time
periods affect on each theorists work. Through the comparison of theories and views, the reader will
be able to see the similarities in theories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the course of this paper, the comparison of Freud and Horney will show that while Freud
began forging the path of psychoanalysis, it was people like Horney who were able to challenge many
of his outdated views and improve upon them, such as challenging the concept that our personalities
are created by age 5, but instead personalities are fluid and grow with the person long after childhood.
(CITE THIS) In the end Honey shows human nature in a more positive and hopeful light, rather than
many of the despairing views of Freudian theory.
FREUD THEORY HIGHLIGHTS 400 WORDS
Starting at the beginning is taking a step back into Vienna in the 1850 s, when Freud s theories began
formation as his childhood experiences began to take place (Schultz Schultz 2017). Freud began his
work in the field of psychoanalysis and specifically the conscious and unconscious mind, and neuroses
through studying under such greats as Charcot and Bernheim (Boeree, C., 2006).
Freud started to think about conscious, preconscious and unconscious mind deeply, and thought that
conscious mind was a small portion of our whole mind, which he believed to be unconscious thought
that drives our instincts.
Begins to name those id ego and superego.
Wishes and drives can break into consciousness from unconsciousness when they become too big, like
overpowering thirst.
Ego is consciousness to satisfy the id
Superego is completed by the age of 7 and is

Nuclear Arms are Weapons of Mass Destruction
Nuclear arms can easily be classified as weapons of mass destruction, as they destroy all ecosystems
that come in contact with it in a matter of seconds, this fairly new and evolving breed of warfare is
continuously becoming a bigger threat to society due to the fact that; the government can turn to
nuclear power if opposing countries do not comply with their needs. The Cold War was essentially
defined by nuclear weapons and the nuclear arm race between United States and the Soviet Union. A
high degree of anxiety existed between the two superpowers and millions of citizens around the world
were put to risk by nuclear arm race. The use of these nuclear weapons were exceedingly destructive
and the consequences were so enormous that the protection of human rights were questioned.
However the use of these weapons were merely to prevent their use by others. In other words nuclear
weapons were devices of deterrence not warfighting. There was a mutual nuclear weapon ownership
with both states possessing nuclear weapons, therefore the odds of war dropped quickly. Both
superpowers quickly came to the realization that nuclear war between the two countries could lead to
a devastation effect on the world which concluded the cold war. From 1968 the only universal treaty
that stops the spread of nuclear weapons is the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) with about 130
members. China is a nuclear weapon state but not a party to the treaty. Also missing are India,
Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina

Social And Biological Characteristics Of Femininity In...
Femininity is comprised of both the social and biological factors that make a person feminine or
womanly. The ideal feminine varies by society, culture and even era. According to _____, femininity
or masculinity is based on what society considers to be valuable. In Marie de France s Lanval
femininity in its most ideal form, is based on exterior qualities such as a beautiful face and thin body
as well as a woman s willingness to give her body and love to a man to use at his disposal. These two
qualities are exhibited by the woman in poem, making her valuable and desired by society, but
specifically Lanval who falls in love with her. This type of femininity is shallow and materialistic,
forgetting to acknowledge what is on the inside, varying much from the characteristics that femininity
would be composed of in today s society.
Topic sentence to lead into this paragraph about the theory. When Lanval first sees the woman, he is
immediately drawn to her beauty. The lily and the young rose/ when they appear in the summer/ are
surpassed by her beauty (94 96). Lanval knows nothing about this woman, except that she is worthy of
his love and her beauty that lies in front of him. She is a beautiful woman with a body well shaped and
elegant (100). The woman s identity has yet been revealed to Lanval, yet he is already in love with
her: He looked at her and saw that she was beautiful/ love stung him with a spark/ that burned and set
fire to his heart (117 119). For the

South Virginia s Coal Industry
The coal industry has helped fuel this nation for 150 years, and coal can be used to heat our homes,
power our economy, and protect our nation for at least another 150 years if we continue to use it. Tim
Murphy. Coal has an interesting history in West Virginia, which has contributed significantly to the
improvement and livelihood of West Virginians since its first discovery, which is now Boone County
in 1742 by Peter Salley, more than a century before West Virginia, became a state. The coal industry
has played a major role in the state s economic, political and community history. The industry has also
been a center of debate and the impact of unfounded criticism, giving rise to battles in the arenas of
labor, environment and safety. Since 1742, West Virginia has provided our nation and the world with
the finest coal found anywhere. As of today, West Virginia s coal miners apply useful and effective
mineral removal technology that makes other countries envy their counterparts around the world. West
Virginia s exports more coal than any other state in the country. West Virginia has more longwall
mining systems than any other state. This leads the nation in underground coal productions and sets
the pace for the rest of the industry in recovery and environment protection. At the same time, West
Virginia coal industry displays a sense of responsibility for health, safety and environmental that is
incomparable anywhere in the world. Over the years, coal has

Racial Discrimination During The 20th Century
Starting in 1501, white Portuguese men enslaved over five million Africans and brought them back to
Brazil to work on sugar plantations, creating a power dynamic that has lasted for centuries. After
nearly four hundred years of slavery, freed black men and women were left with no education, place to
live, or family, placing them at an economic disadvantage from the beginning. In the late nineteenth
and early twentieth centuries, following emancipation, white men began to procreate with indigenous
and African women, creating a mixed or mulatto race, which led to the false identification of Brazil as
a country with a racial democracy. However, darker skinned individuals still remained at the bottom of
the racial hierarchy, facing systems of social, economic, and educational discrimination. The racial
inequalities, products of historical legacy, have resulted in a society that has severe racial
stratifications and continues to subject Afro Brazilians to prejudice, poverty, and police brutality.
Although racial discrimination in contemporary Brazilian society is pervasive, particularly noticeable
in the lack of economic and social mobility, discrimination is not a new phenomenon in Brazil, but
rather the culmination of 500 years of historical inequities rooted in slavery, eugenics, immigration
policy, the process of miscegenation, and the myth of racial democracy . Brazil s racial history has led
to the formation of a society in which darker skinned individuals face

Newport News Shipbuilding And Dry Dock Company Case Study
Facts
Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company (NNS) performs designs, construction, repair
and overhaul for ships, primarily for the United States Navy. On February 1987, the Defense Contract
Audit Agency (DCAA) issued a subpoena duces tecum to NNS demanding financial statements,
federal income tax return, Virginia income tax return and associated schedules for the period 1 January
1983 to 1987. NNS provided the state tax returns to DCAA but withheld the reminder of the
subpoenaed documents claiming the demand was unlawful and unenforceable and filed a declaratory
judgement action which the Government moved to dismiss. The district court denied DCAA s order
for the documents and the Government appealed this decision. Issue

In this situation DCAA subpoenaed trial balance, adjusting entries, segment financial workpapers,
consolidating entries, formal consolidated balance sheet, income statement, Federal income tax return
and any other associated document (state income tax return was provided to DCAA.)
In its defense, NNS claimed that DCAA may subpoena materials that it is used only for determining
contract costs or data that is utilized for allocating costs to specific Government contracts. However,
these documents provide DCAA with factual data that is used to verify actual cost both direct and
indirect (i.e. G A overhead cost.) The court rejected NNS s argument that proposes that DCAA can
only review cost or pricing data used to calculate costs charged to the Government.
The basis of the rejection is documented in 10 U.S.C. Sec. 2313(a) and 2306a(f)(1) which authorize
DCAA to subpoena objective factual documents that can be used to evaluate the accuracy,
completeness, and currency of cost or pricing

Callaway Golf Company Case Analysis
Callaway Golf Company
I. Industry and Competitive Analysis
Callaway Golf Company is the leader in the golf equipment industry. Its founder, Ely Callaway, is an
outstanding businessman, who made among others a winery a $14 million business where nobody
would have even tried. His strategy always paid off, which is to provide best quality at a reasonable
price (focused differentiation strategy). His last enterprise, the golf equipment business, portrays his
outstanding managerial abilities and provides insight how to gain long term competitive advantage.
1. Dominant economic characteristics of the industry environment

The wholesale value of equipment increased from $740 million in 1986 to $2.7 billion in 1999, where
about 25% accounts for golf balls. According to my statistical analysis, the sales will have grown to
$5,22 billion in 20102. In the international wholesale market, the value of the golf ball market was
estimated at $1.5 billion. Golf equipment ranks second in the national wholesale sales of sporting
goods.
US and international markets for golf clubs moved to maturity in 1997 and there was only modest
growth in the early 2000, because most golfers already upgraded their equipment and were waiting for
major new innovations.
In any case, Ely Callaway did succeed in his efforts and BB driver and its sisters became the best golf
product of the century by golf equipment companies and Ely Callaway was elected the most
influential golf trade person of the 1990s.
Golf ball production also became a big business. Callaway decided to build own facilities from the
scratch, whereas e.g. Nike decided to outsource the production. Callaway made only two sorts of ball,
the blue for soft feel and the red for firm feel. That means, they focus on the mass market, as they
deny techno babble and alike. They did change the historical packaging size and design according to
true customer needs and likes and did choose a differing logo as well. The investments and efforts

Man s Search For Meaning By Victor Frankl
Author Victor E. Frankl wrote a book called Man s Search for Meaning. He had always fantasized
about being a doctor from a young age. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine, psychology and
logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was arrested and taken to
Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his sister; she was the only one to
survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different
camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper
he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he finished his manuscript. When he got out,
he became the director of the Vienna Neurological Policlinic. ... Show more content on

When he is explaining his experience he discusses how he tried to understand the minds of the people
suffering around him. In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp
schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he
noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the
gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope
fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose
optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked
enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to
governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not
knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee
themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for
those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen.
He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the
former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once
the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to
help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to
help them find their meaning for life is Logotherapy. He thinks you can discover it in 3 ways which
are to perform a deed, experience something and display an attitude toward suffering. A

The Color Of Skin, Past Ancestry, And Place Of Living
No matter how alike people may be, segregation is a way of living. As humans we typically find
ourselves separated into groups that we can identify with; from being athletic, to being artistic and
even a person s religion. Another path to separation taken by many is by a person s race. One s race
can be described in a variety of ways; color of the skin, past ancestry, and place of origin.
Discrimination is normally placed with race; this can either be a privilege or a disadvantage.
A race can be described as a group of people identified as distinct from other groups because of
supposed physical or genetic traits shared by the group. The color of one s skin is the identifier that
most of us use to distinguish ones race. The color of skin can reveal a lot about a person. It can tell
about their origin. People in Northern Europe or Japan tend to have lighter skin than people whose
ancestors are from sub Saharan Africa or Australia because the difference in sun exposure. The more
exposed ones skin is to the sun the darker it gets, along with the less exposed to the sun the lighter the
skin. Ethnicity and race are uniquely tied together; they are however two separate concepts. Race has
more to do with where a person originates while ethnicity has to do with one s culture. Culture can be
seen as a group of people s traditions, customs or beliefs. Generally, with in separate cultures, the
races of the people in the group are the same, not always though. Consequently, most

The Aviation Industry Has Had On The Environment
Introduction The civil aviation sector over the past hundred years has transformed into one of the most
vital forms of transport in society today. This is due to a vast range of improvements and innovations.
One major enhancement in an aircraft is its fuel efficiency; this was obtained through years of in depth
research, engine development, avionics and its aerodynamics. The effect that the aviation industry has
had on the environment has been relatively small but due to the increase in demands the emissions
released by these aircrafts will increase as a result of this. The primary emissions released are carbon
monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons have all contributed to the deterioration of
local air quality and eventually lead to an increase in greenhouse gases. The purpose of this
assignment is to highlight the advancements in the aircraft industry over the past hundred years as
well as state the key innovations which led to the overall goal airliner the Boeing 247 . The 247 flew
using the design of a twin engine bomber with retractable landing gear built initially for the military.
Even though it only accommodated 10 passengers and had a cruising speed of 155 miles an hour, this
was a turning point in history as it was the first aircraft to be introduced into civil aviation. Another
example was the introduction of military aviation. World War II was the main cause of fighter jets. By
the end of the war aircraft manufacturers were producing 48,000

The Public Company Sonic Drive Corporation
The public company Sonic Drive Corporation was my choice of analysis because of being familiar

that originated in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As of 2015, Sonic has 3,526 drive ins across 44 states.
The total amount of drive ins includes company and franchise owned. Sonic has operated since the

menu consists of hamburgers and hot dogs with fries and tots following as side items. The drink
options available range all the way from soft drinks to slushes and even milkshakes. Customers are
also given the choice to combine different flavors to create thousands of drink possibilities. It all
started at the end of World War II. The founder of Sonic, Troy N. Smith resided in Seminole,
Oklahoma. His job at the end of the war was as a milkman. Soon after that career, he opened up a
cottage café named Troy s Pan Full of Chicken. By the time 1953 rolled around, he had partnered up
resulting in a walk up root beer stand named Top Hat. The operation brought in astonishing sales
resulting in more expansion (Blackburn). The insight of a speaker system for vehicles was then

The Tricky Goblin and the Green Goo
I must have lost my footing somehow during my slip through the mirror because I fall out of it and
crashed with a with a painful thud on my bedroom floor. I looked up. My room was dark, but a door
was ajar in the kitchen, and light from a fixture stretched across the hallway. I untangled my feet and
rose. Then silently crept into the living room, hid behind the sofa, and peeked over the top. Gordok

wiping it off with the back of my sleeve. The goblin bared his fangs and his beady eyes began to glow.
Shut up and hand it over boy! I suppose you want this? I said daggling the key out in front of me. The

behind me. Gordok started to pound on the door. The jig is up boy. Just give us what we want and I ll

Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century Essay
Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century
Deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, is present within every single cell in the human body and controls the
production of different proteins. DNA can be thought of as the brain of every cell, it governs the
operation of the body s cells and so determines whether the individual has good health or is ill. It is for
this reason that the study of DNA generates such excitement in medical research, and offers such hope
for the future identification and treatment of disease.
Many would argue that the mapping of the human genome is one of the key scientific achievements;

The decoding of the human genome will allow pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs that
act on the mechanism of the disease and identify susceptible genes (to diseases, like the common cold)
for early detection and prevention. Furthermore, this information will allow pharmaceutical companies
to identify from a certain individuals genetic make up if they are likely to react adversely to a
particular drug. It will also allow the companies to identify people who would benefit from particular
drug treatments. The last two areas are important in the field of pharmacogenetics, this is the tailoring
of drug treatment to the genetic make up of the patient while maximising the drug efficiency and
minimizing the possible side effects.
Before any information on the human genome sequence was available, when individuals didn t
respond well to prescribed drugs the drug was blamed. However, over time we have gathered more
information and expanded our knowledge on the human genome and actually discovered that the
adverse reaction was down to the individual and not the drug. This is because within all of us there are

Implementing A New Tracking System Essay
The situation surrounding the problem within the Office of Appeals is adapting from seeing things as
they are to seeing things as they could be. The Agency must take final administrative action on a
hearing within 90 days of the date of the initial request. Although, the 90 day time frame allowed
pursuant to regulations, the Agency makes every effort to conduct hearings promptly, and if possible,
render decisions in a shorter time frame. Therefore, the new tracking system will have a tremendous
impact on conducting the hearing within the allotted time.
It s time to move into the fast pace and changing technology world. The Office of Appeals must be
equipped with today s technology to ensure that our beneficiaries and stakeholders receive information
and assistance as quickly and efficiently as possible. Incorporating a new tracking system could serve
that purpose. By instituting a new tracking system, the Division of Medicaid could greatly improve the
quality or services it provides to its beneficiaries and stakeholders. A new appeal tracking system
would minimize the time in providing hearing notification to the beneficiaries we serve. By utilizing
the most recent program software, it will allow the Office of Appeals to thoroughly track an appeal
from the beginning to the final administrative decision.

Elizabeth Warren The Vanishing Middle Class Analysis
Debt in America now has grown to be at the highest it has been compared to the decades before.
People now spend tremendous about of money now then they have many years prior. Many people
today have borrowed money that they can not seem to pay back, which debt begins to accumulate and
may cause distress in many lives. Basically now there is no one preserving their own money, they re
are just spending their hard earned money. Elizabeth Warren, formerly a U.S. senator and also a
teacher, addresses the middle class in her essay called the vanishing middle class . There are abundant
of good ideas that she states in her essay. Elizabeth Warren is very effective in her argument because
of three concepts that stand out the most were having high incomes but at a price, savings and debt,
how different we use our money now compared with how we have in the past. Incomes now and back
then have changed tremendously. In her essay the vanishing middle class Elizabeth Warren states The
answer is that the typical man working full time, after adjusting for inflation, earns about $800 less
than his father earned in the early 1970s. After decades of rising incomes earlier in the twentieth
century, about thirty years ago wages for men have flatlined . This shows that even though incomes
have increased and changed over time people are still making less money than their parents have done
due to wages not being increased for 30 years and due to the facts the people spend more on things

Internet Censorship Of China, South Africa And Other...
Internet censorship in China, South Africa and other countries is something that prohibits real
discussion from taking place regarding issues that affect the public. For instance, in China, certain key
word searches are automatically filtered out so that users cannot find the information they are seeking.
While Internet censorship may be good from one perspective (in terms of stemming the flow of child
pornography, curbing false information, or putting a nation s interests first), it can be viewed as bad
from another perspective (in terms of cutting down on the opportunity to inform sides of a dialogue,
promoting free exchange of ideas, or discussing why one form of pornography is allowed but not
another). This paper will show why Internet censorship can be interpreted in both positive and
negative ways depending on the perspective that one adopts (whether one is pro Statist or anti Statist).
In short, pros and cons depend wholly upon one s worldview and outlook. The first pro may be, as
Lorentzen (2014) notes, that a partial censorship strategy is an effective way for governments to
control the levels of discontent in their respective countries (p. 405). Lorentzen (2014) observes that
this is a model that could be applied in China as it attempts to control its Internet content, though he
argues that all nations could utilize it, permitting half of the discontent to be reported when discontent
is high and all of the discontent to be reported when discontent is

Effects Of Adolescence Female Cannabinoid Exposure On Male...
The topic of this article is the effects of adolescence female cannabinoid exposure on male offspring s
response to opiates. The particular study is important because marijuana is one of the most abused
drugs among females. Since women have babies it is important to understand any potential health risk
of the cannabinoid exposure on their offspring. Previous studies have shown increased risks of anxiety
and depression, as well as decreased motivation and reading comprehension skills (Brynes, 2012, p
1348). The current study looks at whether exposure during adolescence will affect future offspring.

Researchers used twenty three year old female Sprague Dawley rats in this experiment. The rats were
kept in standard laboratory cages on a light dark cycle in a temperature controlled room. The rats were
given seven day to adjust to their new homes before beginning the experiment. When sixteen of the
female rats reached thirty days of age they were administered injections of CB1 and CB2. These
female rats were the WIN F1 group. Each day injection dosage increased. The first day was a 1kg,
second day 2kg, third day 4kg. The female rats were weighed daily. The control group, VEH F1,
consisted of sixteen female rats that were administered saline. At 60 days of ages the female rats were
mated with colony male rats. On postnatal day 21 male offspring were housed until test began. Only
one offspring per litter was used. When the male offspring became 40 or 60 days old they were tested
for CPP responses to morphine or saline. Rats were tested in three chambers, which had infrared to
track the rat. During preconditioning, day 1, rats were placed in the middle chamber but allowed to go
to any of the three chambers. Researchers recorded the amount of time spent in each chamber during
15 minutes. Day 2 morning, the rats were weighed, given saline, and placed in chamber A for 30
minutes. Five hours later rats were administered either saline or morphine and placed in camber B for
30 minutes. Conditioning repeated for 3 days. On the fifth day rats were placed in the middle

The House Of Sand And Fog Summary
Riain Flynn 21 September 2014 Amstud periods 2 3 What Happens When Dreams Collide? In The
House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, there are an infinite amount of possible outcomes when
dreams collide, but overall not everybody can have his/her dreams fulfilled, unless there is a
compromise to which all parties can agree upon, but only one can get what they came for, and the
characters in the story do not come to this conclusion. This idea is expanded upon throughout the story
of House and Sand and Fog when we get two people, Kathy Nicolo, and Colonel Behrani who have
their dreams intertwine. They both do not ever come to a compromise that can satisfy the both of
them, but instead it leads to nobody achieving their dream. Kathy Nicolo is upset at the fact that she
had lost her home because of unpaid taxes, and tries to reclaim her house from the family who
currently has legal possession of the house, which leads to utter chaos instead of compromise. ... Show

Socrates Self Confidence
Socrates was a philosopher in c. 470 BCE c. 399 BCE. He was a pioneer in an education method,
which focused on discovering answers by asking question from his students. Charleston College, 2018
pointed out that Socrates believed that the disciplined practice of thoughtful questioning enable the
student/scholar to examine ideas and be able to determine the validity of those ideas The focus point
of the Socratic Thought, is to challenges student to feel confident and worth of question what is
validated and accepted as norms. One of the strength of Socratic Thought was and as is today, in not
just accepted what is stablished, is to go deeply under the surface and analyzing reasons, consequences
and the impact that those assumption make to group and individuals (Alain de Bottom 2013). Is very
clever the name of the documentary Socrates Self Confidence , and if the name is staking to a more
serious level, anyone that questioning the norms and rule of what is stablished, have to be really
confident, because right after you to question norms and rules that group fallow, oneself will have

Much Ado About Nothing Analysis
Kenneth Branagh s 1993 film of Much Ado About Nothing is a British and American romantic
comedy, based on William Shakespeare s renowned production. In sixteenth century Messina, Sicily
set on and around Governor Leonato s estate, villains are outwitted, lovers wed and dancing concludes
an underlining major conflict, ado about nothing. Suspicion of a deceived wedding, in which husbands
are obliged to be controlled and betrayed, but also greatly desire to be married. Branagh employs
visual humour through fundamental themes, recurring motifs and symbols, which exemplify abstract
ideas, or concepts. Thus, this assists to emphasise the significance of Shakespeare s dialogue
throughout specific scenes in the adaptation. To begin with, themes are the fundamental and
commonly general notions explored within Branagh s film and Shakespeare s literary work. The ideal
of social refinement depicts each character s intriguing manner of language that Renaissance nobles
endeavoured for in their social interactions. The film s language is significantly associated with
metaphor and ornamented by rhetoric, as is the original play. Benedick and Claudio both aristocratic
soldiers, as well as Don Pedro an important nobleman from Aragon instigate the kind of witty
mockery, that courtiers used to attract attention and support in noble households. In the opening scene,
Benedick and his companions attempt to present their refined social graces both in their behaviour and
dialogue. Visual

The rapid changes taking place in emerging markets, combined with the fact that existing fixed line
networks are often underdeveloped, offer persuasive reasons to believe that systems will be developed
that can facilitate wealth creation and genuinely transform people s lives in the poorest parts of the
region. Ultimately, the evolution of mobile payments systems has the potential to allow global
organisations to access a far wider market, including people in previously hard to access locations.
The caveat is, of course, that issues of trust, security and affordability also need to be overcome. This
report explores the recent developments in the context of these significant challenges. Mobile
payments are necessitating new forms of interaction between telecoms companies, financial
institutions, software and content providers. As in any supply chain, it is important to understand the
processes and security capabilities of other parties in the relationship. It is even more important when
potentially sensitive or personal information is flowing between these parties. Ultimately, the adoption
of mobile payments will therefore depend on, and be driven by, consumer confidence. In this respect,
all of the participants within each respective business model needs to share some responsibility for its
successful adoption. seung Hwan (sean) choi Regional Head Information, Communications

Selfishness In The Scarlet Ibis, By James Hunt
Anyone who is selfish is an enemy. Many wise people have left behind words for this generation to
help guide it along the right path. Every heart is filled with light. But to find it, you must first venture
through darkness... (Anonymous). These words have gone into vain as selfishness has placed itself
among people s thoughts. The actions that selfishness leads people to do has no other purpose to serve
than to benefit themselves. Even if it seems to help someone, the true intention is to make themselves
feel better. When combined with pride, it becomes the consumer of a person s behavior. The author
James Hunt wrote the short story The Scarlet Ibis which the main character is selfish towards his
younger brother. Brother, the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brother is ashamed of his crippled little brother and does not want his pride to be hurt by
embarrassment. After Doodle showed his family he can walk, Brother was in deep thought thinking,
They did not know I did it for myself...Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of having a
crippled brother (347). Brother is even aware of his selfishness and boldly admits it, to himself.
Brother was clouded by the shame and pride he d been living in to see that Doodle desperately needed
to walk for himself. Brother s reputation was apparently more important than doing the right thing for
the right cause. Another moment that reveals Brother s selfish side is right after Doodle had failed to
swim in the water. During the storm, Doodle had fallen and Brother left him there. For a long, long
time, it seemed forever, I lay there, crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis... (354). This moment ties
back to how Brother completely ignored all of Doodle s risk factors and how fragile he is. Brother was
only focused on Doodle s failed swimming and his future school life humiliation. Throughout the
whole time Brother had invested teaching Doodle new things, Brother has never really forgotten his
true motive behind all of it. The selfishness of Brother lead to him ultimately letting Doodle

Literary Analysis Of A Good Man Down
Literary Analysis of A Good Man Down
In the Sports Illustrated article A Good Man Down, author Lee Jenkins utilizes the elements of tone,
insightful word choice, and structure to tell the story of a coach and community who, when faced with
tragedies, displayed the grit of small town values.
The verbose tone of the story begins by describing Ed Thomas s obsession with his football field. In
order to accurately capture Thomas s passion for football, Jenkins goes into great detail describing the
meticulous care and protection Thomas gave to make sure the field was in prime condition. The tone
shifts when Jenkins describes the school s barn by saying, That s where Thomas kept the big orange
lawn mower he used to cut the grass. It s also where he was shot and killed two days earlier. Here, the
author goes from something as mundane as describing a barn, to abruptly informing the reader of
Thomas s death. The stark tone of the last sentence drastically changes the mood of the writing from
small town living to murder. Jenkins wanted readers to experience the same shock the townspeople
felt when they lost a key figure in their community. Jenkins technique of diversifying tone early in the
article was very effective towards gaining the reader s attention.
Another exemplary example of Jenkin s control over tone was when he described Thomas s death. The
tone fit the actions displayed in the event; mournful and emotional. Jenkins describes the emotions of
Brandon Simkins, an up and coming running back, as he watches his coach, the one he had dreamed
playing for perish in front of him. Brandon wanted so badly to play for Thomas, and you could feel
that through the author s wistful tone. After Brandon s dream of playing for Thomas was taken away,
the tone shifts translates to anger and disappointment. Jenkins conveys Brandon s feelings by saying,
After they got out, he punched the door closed, hitting it so hard he bruised his fist. The ferocity of
tone and word choice in this paragraph help the reader feel the situation at hand, not just hear about it.
When Parkersburg was rocked by the effects of the tornado, Jenkins describes the coach s reaction as
he came to the side of the field by writing, ...he stared

MARKETING ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY RECOMMENDATION FOR STARBUCKS COFFEE
COMPANY
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this report is to conduct market analysis and recommend appropriate marketing
strategies for Starbucks Coffee.
In the report, we will first look into Starbucks s goal, its product and markets. Then we will look into
the key actions and decisions that lead to the success of the company. After that, we will discuss the
issues that Starbucks is facing in this competitive global market. For each strategic issue, appropriate
marketing recommendations for the company are made respectively.
BACKGROUND AND SITUATION ANALYSIS
Starbucks Coffee starts in 1971 with a single store in Seattle s Pike Place Market. Today, they are
privileged to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that the most important target market for Starbucks are people within this age group. The
two largest ethnic groups in the U.S. are white 81.7%, black 12.9% and Asian 4.2%. (CIA World
Factbook) The ethnic background is important to a company because it influences tastes, trends,
perceptions, values and beliefs of an individual.
_ECONOMICAL FACTORS_
Estimated GDP in 2004 was $11.75 trillion. GDP real growth rate was 4.4% (CIA World Factbook).
The growth rate of GDP suggests that the economy is growing, and therefore there is opportunity for
Starbucks to expand business. A very large per capita purchasing power parity of $40,100 suggests
that Americans have the opportunity to buy specialty coffee drinks from an expensive, quality
intensive organization such as Starbucks (CIA World Factbook).
_3.4 TECHNOLOGICAL FACTORS_
Strategic issues that will challenge Starbucks in the future are related to their tight control and lack of
flexibility, organizational structure, and diversification. First, Starbucks is vertically integrated as they
buy and roast the beans, ship them to the stores, produce, and sell the coffee. They may face
difficulties or have to raise the price of their coffee if the cost of raw beans increases, or there is a
decrease in available labor.
The second issue is that they are centralized around controlling all steps of the distribution

Single Variable Response ( Svr )
Single Variable Response (SVR) has been a methodology often used for qualitative analysis of the
training results obtained from Evolutionary neural network (EvoNN) and Bi Objective genetic
programming (BioGP) [Pettersson et~al., 2007], [Jha et~al., 2015b]. In SVR, a style of variation is
created by generating values between zero and one on time scale. The trend line is irregular, that is
there are regions of constant values, sharp increases and sharp decreases in the line. This has been
referred to as input signal in the following text. Here, an input signal is furnished for each variable
(alloying element). The response of that signal (that corresponds to that particular variable) was
checked with respect to the input signal for the objectives and constraints trained through the selected
model. For SVR testing, the input signal (trend of variation) was used for one of the variables, while
the other variables were kept constant at an average value. The model output response was plotted
against the variable trend. The various responses were tabulated for each of the models. Following
terminologies were used in SVR testing: 1. Direct: This means that the model output increases on
increasing the value of input signal and decreases on decreasing the value. 2. Inverse: This means that
a particular variable will affect the model output in opposite manner. That is, if we quantitatively
increase/decrease the value of that particular variable (concentration of this

Freudian Theory And Horney s Theory Freudian Theory and Horney s Theory: A Comparison Paper Amy Simms Yorkville University Abstract This comparison paper aims to highlight the main aspects of Freud and Horney s theories of psychoanalysis, and begins to unravel some of the possible similarities, and many of the contrasts between the two . Beginning with Freud, the grandfather of psychoanalysis, and comparing his set of ideals with that of a woman who came shortly after him, Karen Horney with not only a new set of views on psychoanalysis but a fresh new look on gender in society, much due to the culture and time periods affect on each theorists work. Throughout the course of this paper, the comparison of Freud and Horney will show that while Freud began forging the path of psychoanalysis, it was people like Horney who were able to challenge many of his outdated views and improve upon them, such as challenging the concept that our personalities are created by age 5, but instead personalities are fluid and grow with the person long after childhood. (CITE THIS) In the end Honey shows human nature in a more positive and hopeful light, rather than many of the despairing views of Freudian theory. FREUD THEORY HIGHLIGHTS 400 WORDS Starting at the beginning is taking a step back into Vienna in the 1850 s, when Freud s theories began formation as his childhood experiences began to take place (Schultz Schultz 2017). Freud began his work in the field of psychoanalysis and specifically the conscious and unconscious mind, and neuroses through studying under such greats as Charcot and Bernheim (Boeree, C., 2006). Freud started to think about conscious, preconscious and unconscious mind deeply, and thought that conscious mind was a small portion of our whole mind, which he believed to be unconscious thought that drives our instincts. • 3. Nuclear Arms are Weapons of Mass Destruction Nuclear arms can easily be classified as weapons of mass destruction, as they destroy all ecosystems that come in contact with it in a matter of seconds, this fairly new and evolving breed of warfare is continuously becoming a bigger threat to society due to the fact that; the government can turn to nuclear power if opposing countries do not comply with their needs. The Cold War was essentially defined by nuclear weapons and the nuclear arm race between United States and the Soviet Union. A high degree of anxiety existed between the two superpowers and millions of citizens around the world were put to risk by nuclear arm race. The use of these nuclear weapons were exceedingly destructive and the consequences were so enormous that the protection of human rights were questioned. However the use of these weapons were merely to prevent their use by others. In other words nuclear weapons were devices of deterrence not warfighting. There was a mutual nuclear weapon ownership with both states possessing nuclear weapons, therefore the odds of war dropped quickly. Both superpowers quickly came to the realization that nuclear war between the two countries could lead to a devastation effect on the world which concluded the cold war. From 1968 the only universal treaty that stops the spread of nuclear weapons is the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) with about 130 members. China is a nuclear weapon state but not a party to the treaty. Also missing are India, Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social And Biological Characteristics Of Femininity In... Femininity is comprised of both the social and biological factors that make a person feminine or womanly. The ideal feminine varies by society, culture and even era. According to _____, femininity or masculinity is based on what society considers to be valuable. In Marie de France s Lanval femininity in its most ideal form, is based on exterior qualities such as a beautiful face and thin body as well as a woman s willingness to give her body and love to a man to use at his disposal. These two qualities are exhibited by the woman in poem, making her valuable and desired by society, but specifically Lanval who falls in love with her. This type of femininity is shallow and materialistic, forgetting to acknowledge what is on the inside, varying much from the characteristics that femininity would be composed of in today s society. Topic sentence to lead into this paragraph about the theory. When Lanval first sees the woman, he is immediately drawn to her beauty. The lily and the young rose/ when they appear in the summer/ are surpassed by her beauty (94 96). Lanval knows nothing about this woman, except that she is worthy of his love and her beauty that lies in front of him. She is a beautiful woman with a body well shaped and elegant (100). The woman s identity has yet been revealed to Lanval, yet he is already in love with her: He looked at her and saw that she was beautiful/ love stung him with a spark/ that burned and set fire to his heart (117 119). • 5. South Virginia s Coal Industry The coal industry has helped fuel this nation for 150 years, and coal can be used to heat our homes, power our economy, and protect our nation for at least another 150 years if we continue to use it. Tim Murphy. Coal has an interesting history in West Virginia, which has contributed significantly to the improvement and livelihood of West Virginians since its first discovery, which is now Boone County in 1742 by Peter Salley, more than a century before West Virginia, became a state. The coal industry has played a major role in the state s economic, political and community history. The industry has also been a center of debate and the impact of unfounded criticism, giving rise to battles in the arenas of labor, environment and safety. Since 1742, West Virginia has provided our nation and the world with the finest coal found anywhere. As of today, West Virginia s coal miners apply useful and effective mineral removal technology that makes other countries envy their counterparts around the world. West Virginia s exports more coal than any other state in the country. West Virginia has more longwall mining systems than any other state. This leads the nation in underground coal productions and sets the pace for the rest of the industry in recovery and environment protection. At the same time, West Virginia coal industry displays a sense of responsibility for health, safety and environmental that is incomparable anywhere in the world. Over the years, coal has ... • 6. Racial Discrimination During The 20th Century Starting in 1501, white Portuguese men enslaved over five million Africans and brought them back to Brazil to work on sugar plantations, creating a power dynamic that has lasted for centuries. After nearly four hundred years of slavery, freed black men and women were left with no education, place to live, or family, placing them at an economic disadvantage from the beginning. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, following emancipation, white men began to procreate with indigenous and African women, creating a mixed or mulatto race, which led to the false identification of Brazil as a country with a racial democracy. However, darker skinned individuals still remained at the bottom of the racial hierarchy, facing systems of social, economic, and educational discrimination. The racial inequalities, products of historical legacy, have resulted in a society that has severe racial stratifications and continues to subject Afro Brazilians to prejudice, poverty, and police brutality. Although racial discrimination in contemporary Brazilian society is pervasive, particularly noticeable in the lack of economic and social mobility, discrimination is not a new phenomenon in Brazil, but rather the culmination of 500 years of historical inequities rooted in slavery, eugenics, immigration policy, the process of miscegenation, and the myth of racial democracy . Brazil s racial history has led to the formation of a society in which darker skinned individuals face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this situation DCAA subpoenaed trial balance, adjusting entries, segment financial workpapers, consolidating entries, formal consolidated balance sheet, income statement, Federal income tax return and any other associated document (state income tax return was provided to DCAA.) However, these documents provide DCAA with factual data that is used to verify actual cost both direct and indirect (i.e. G A overhead cost.) The court rejected NNS s argument that proposes that DCAA can only review cost or pricing data used to calculate costs charged to the Government. The basis of the rejection is documented in 10 U.S.C. US and international markets for golf clubs moved to maturity in 1997 and there was only modest growth in the early 2000, because most golfers already upgraded their equipment and were waiting for major new innovations. • 9. Man s Search For Meaning By Victor Frankl Author Victor E. Frankl wrote a book called Man s Search for Meaning. He had always fantasized about being a doctor from a young age. He lived in Vienna, and studied medicine, psychology and logotherapy which is the healing through meaning. In 1942 his family was arrested and taken to Theresienstadt in Bohemia. His family had died in the camp except his sister; she was the only one to survive besides him. He began to write a script while in the camps he was in (he moved to 3 different camps during the holocaust). It was called, The Doctor and The Soul. He wrote it on pieces of paper he found in the camps. In 1945 his camp was set free and he finished his manuscript. When he got out, he became the director of the Vienna Neurological Policlinic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he is explaining his experience he discusses how he tried to understand the minds of the people suffering around him. In the book he describes his admittance into the camp, the everyday camp schedule and his release from the camp. When he is talking about his involvement in the camp he noticed many people experienced shock. As a part of this he noticed most people believed that the gassing would be stopped or delayed right before their execution. There was always a tiny hope fluctuation around in the camps that they would live to see freedom. Once people started to lose optimism that they would survive, suicides were common and majority of the prisoners lacked enthusiasm and energy which created emotional emptiness. He thought that people had the ability to governor and choose their piety and mental stability. Frankl said that people struggled with not knowing when the torment and suffering would end. He thought that people who couldn t foresee themselves getting out lost control of their mental stability. When freedom does eventually arrive for those who had survived they had a hard time accepting it because they never thought it would happen. He states that some prisoners weren t even happy about being released. Once they were released the former prisoners had to relearn how to experience things that didn t revolve around suffering. Once the holocaust is over and everyone has been released the book goes on to describe the techniques to help people that are still mentally ill from the horrifying experience. He states that the only way to help them find their meaning for life is Logotherapy. He thinks you can discover it in 3 ways which are to perform a deed, experience something and display an attitude toward suffering. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As humans we typically find ourselves separated into groups that we can identify with; from being athletic, to being artistic and even a person s religion. Another path to separation taken by many is by a person s race. One s race can be described in a variety of ways; color of the skin, past ancestry, and place of origin. Discrimination is normally placed with race; this can either be a privilege or a disadvantage. The color of one s skin is the identifier that most of us use to distinguish ones race. The color of skin can reveal a lot about a person. It can tell about their origin. The Aviation Industry Has Had On The Environment Introduction The civil aviation sector over the past hundred years has transformed into one of the most vital forms of transport in society today. This is due to a vast range of improvements and innovations. One major enhancement in an aircraft is its fuel efficiency; this was obtained through years of in depth research, engine development, avionics and its aerodynamics. The effect that the aviation industry has had on the environment has been relatively small but due to the increase in demands the emissions released by these aircrafts will increase as a result of this. The primary emissions released are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons have all contributed to the deterioration of local air quality and eventually lead to an increase in greenhouse gases. A research question is an extension of the research problem. The question focuses upon a specific area of the problem. Research questions must be worthy of the time to investigate, and contribute information and significance to the field of study. The question must be feasible, clear, significant, and ethical ( Writing Research Questions , 2009). The research question usually requires additional supporting questions relating to specific areas of the study. The totality of the supporting questions answers provides the conclusion to the primary research question. Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century Essay Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century Deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, is present within every single cell in the human body and controls the production of different proteins. DNA can be thought of as the brain of every cell, it governs the operation of the body s cells and so determines whether the individual has good health or is ill. It is for this reason that the study of DNA generates such excitement in medical research, and offers such hope for the future identification and treatment of disease. Many would argue that the mapping of the human genome is one of the key scientific achievements; however, this knowledge is of no practical use because we aren t fully prepared to experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decoding of the human genome will allow pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs that act on the mechanism of the disease and identify susceptible genes (to diseases, like the common cold) for early detection and prevention. Furthermore, this information will allow pharmaceutical companies to identify from a certain individuals genetic make up if they are likely to react adversely to a particular drug. It will also allow the companies to identify people who would benefit from particular drug treatments. The last two areas are important in the field of pharmacogenetics, this is the tailoring of drug treatment to the genetic make up of the patient while maximising the drug efficiency and minimizing the possible side effects. Before any information on the human genome sequence was available, when individuals didn t respond well to prescribed drugs the drug was blamed. However, over time we have gathered more information and expanded our knowledge on the human genome and actually discovered that the adverse reaction was down to the individual and not the drug. This is because within all of us there are known to be polymorphisms. In order for us to understand this I must describe the science behind this idea. The Agency must take final administrative action on a hearing within 90 days of the date of the initial request. Although, the 90 day time frame allowed pursuant to regulations, the Agency makes every effort to conduct hearings promptly, and if possible, render decisions in a shorter time frame. Therefore, the new tracking system will have a tremendous impact on conducting the hearing within the allotted time. It s time to move into the fast pace and changing technology world. The Office of Appeals must be equipped with today s technology to ensure that our beneficiaries and stakeholders receive information and assistance as quickly and efficiently as possible. Incorporating a new tracking system could serve that purpose. By instituting a new tracking system, the Division of Medicaid could greatly improve the quality or services it provides to its beneficiaries and stakeholders. A new appeal tracking system would minimize the time in providing hearing notification to the beneficiaries we serve. By utilizing the most recent program software, it will allow the Office of Appeals to thoroughly track an appeal from the beginning to the final administrative decision. People now spend tremendous about of money now then they have many years prior. Many people today have borrowed money that they can not seem to pay back, which debt begins to accumulate and may cause distress in many lives. Basically now there is no one preserving their own money, they re are just spending their hard earned money. Elizabeth Warren, formerly a U.S. senator and also a teacher, addresses the middle class in her essay called the vanishing middle class . There are abundant of good ideas that she states in her essay. Elizabeth Warren is very effective in her argument because of three concepts that stand out the most were having high incomes but at a price, savings and debt, how different we use our money now compared with how we have in the past. Incomes now and back then have changed tremendously. In her essay the vanishing middle class Elizabeth Warren states The answer is that the typical man working full time, after adjusting for inflation, earns about $800 less than his father earned in the early 1970s. After decades of rising incomes earlier in the twentieth century, about thirty years ago wages for men have flatlined . This shows that even though incomes have increased and changed over time people are still making less money than their parents have done due to wages not being increased for 30 years and due to the facts the people spend more on things ... • 21. Internet Censorship Of China, South Africa And Other... Internet censorship in China, South Africa and other countries is something that prohibits real discussion from taking place regarding issues that affect the public. For instance, in China, certain key word searches are automatically filtered out so that users cannot find the information they are seeking. While Internet censorship may be good from one perspective (in terms of stemming the flow of child pornography, curbing false information, or putting a nation s interests first), it can be viewed as bad from another perspective (in terms of cutting down on the opportunity to inform sides of a dialogue, promoting free exchange of ideas, or discussing why one form of pornography is allowed but not another). This paper will show why Internet censorship can be interpreted in both positive and negative ways depending on the perspective that one adopts (whether one is pro Statist or anti Statist). In short, pros and cons depend wholly upon one s worldview and outlook. The first pro may be, as Lorentzen (2014) notes, that a partial censorship strategy is an effective way for governments to control the levels of discontent in their respective countries (p. 405). Lorentzen (2014) observes that this is a model that could be applied in China as it attempts to control its Internet content, though he argues that all nations could utilize it, permitting half of the discontent to be reported when discontent is high and all of the discontent to be reported when discontent is ... The caveat is, of course, that issues of trust, security and affordability also need to be overcome. This report explores the recent developments in the context of these significant challenges. As in any supply chain, it is important to understand the processes and security capabilities of other parties in the relationship. • 29. Literary Analysis Of A Good Man Down Literary Analysis of A Good Man Down In the Sports Illustrated article A Good Man Down, author Lee Jenkins utilizes the elements of tone, insightful word choice, and structure to tell the story of a coach and community who, when faced with tragedies, displayed the grit of small town values. The verbose tone of the story begins by describing Ed Thomas s obsession with his football field. In order to accurately capture Thomas s passion for football, Jenkins goes into great detail describing the meticulous care and protection Thomas gave to make sure the field was in prime condition. The tone shifts when Jenkins describes the school s barn by saying, That s where Thomas kept the big orange lawn mower he used to cut the grass. It s also where he was shot and killed two days earlier. Here, the author goes from something as mundane as describing a barn, to abruptly informing the reader of Thomas s death. The stark tone of the last sentence drastically changes the mood of the writing from small town living to murder. Jenkins wanted readers to experience the same shock the townspeople felt when they lost a key figure in their community. Jenkins technique of diversifying tone early in the article was very effective towards gaining the reader s attention. Another exemplary example of Jenkin s control over tone was when he described Thomas s death. The tone fit the actions displayed in the event; mournful and emotional. Jenkins describes the emotions of Brandon Simkins, an up and coming running back, as he watches his coach, the one he had dreamed playing for perish in front of him. Brandon wanted so badly to play for Thomas, and you could feel that through the author s wistful tone. After Brandon s dream of playing for Thomas was taken away, the tone shifts translates to anger and disappointment. Jenkins conveys Brandon s feelings by saying, After they got out, he punched the door closed, hitting it so hard he bruised his fist. The ferocity of tone and word choice in this paragraph help the reader feel the situation at hand, not just hear about it. When Parkersburg was rocked by the effects of the tornado, Jenkins describes the coach s reaction as he came to the side of the field by writing, ...he stared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Single Variable Response ( Svr ) Single Variable Response (SVR) has been a methodology often used for qualitative analysis of the training results obtained from Evolutionary neural network (EvoNN) and Bi Objective genetic programming (BioGP) [Pettersson et~al., 2007], [Jha et~al., 2015b]. In SVR, a style of variation is created by generating values between zero and one on time scale. The trend line is irregular, that is there are regions of constant values, sharp increases and sharp decreases in the line. This has been referred to as input signal in the following text. Here, an input signal is furnished for each variable (alloying element). The response of that signal (that corresponds to that particular variable) was checked with respect to the input signal for the objectives and constraints trained through the selected model. For SVR testing, the input signal (trend of variation) was used for one of the variables, while the other variables were kept constant at an average value. The model output response was plotted against the variable trend. The various responses were tabulated for each of the models. Following terminologies were used in SVR testing: 1. Direct: This means that the model output increases on increasing the value of input signal and decreases on decreasing the value. 2. Inverse: This means that a particular variable will affect the model output in opposite manner. That is, if we quantitatively increase/decrease the value of that particular variable (concentration of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
