Designing Powerful Web Applications Using AJAX and Other RIAsDave Malouf
This is the slide deck from the workshop given at UI11 on October 9, 2006. This presentation was given with myself (David Malouf) and Bill Scott (AJAX Evangelist @ Yahoo!).
The goal of the course was to teach people the basics of Interaction Design and then how to apply those principles to design using RIA technologies like AJAX and Flash.
It doesn't matter if your organization is large or small, or if you have a complex network or have no server at all. Knowing about online collaboration tools can help organizations and individuals be more effective, for less money, especially when your staff is not located in one central location.
In this free webinar, Kami Griffiths will interview Jon Warnow from 350.org to learn about the tools that they use to accomplish their mission specifically Google Apps, Skype and Salsa Labs-Democracy in Action. We'll also hear from Jay Boren, from Google, who will provide more information about Google Apps and the ways that nonprofits and libraries can take advantage of this suite of free tools.
This webinar is ideal for decision makers, board members, accidental techies or anyone interested in learning how one nonprofit is successfully using online tools for collaborating.
You can discuss this webinar on Twitter with the hashtag #techsoup or join us for a live-stream of the event in Second Life.

Abstract:
Proficiency in using educational technology tools is becoming increasingly important for all instructors and librarians. The question is which tools to use and how to make them a meaningful part of students’ experiences in classrooms and at reference desks. Educators should also be able to make the most of educational technology when providing services to distance education students.
This presentation will show some of the major types of educational technology tools used at the university level including screen-capture software, citation management software, research tools, course management systems, podcasting, presentation software, and Second Life. The presenter will give an overview of what technology exists, how it is used, and why it is worthwhile. Students expect more multimedia instruction both online and in-person. By using these tools professors and librarians can provide instruction that is more vibrant and interactive without sacrificing content.

When should website incorporate rich interactivity? When should they use Ajax to support that rich interactivity. Presentation from AJAXWorld East 2008.
One of the main advantages of PHP is that it allows you and your company to build up projects in no time and with immediate feedback and business value. Sometimes, however, fast growth and unprevented complexities could make your codebase more and more difficult to manage as time passes and new features are added.Domain Driven Design can be an elegant solution to the problem, but introducing it in mid-large sized projects is not always easy: you have to deal with difficulties at technical, team and knowledge levels. This talk focuses on how to approach the change in your codebase and in your team mindset without breaking legacy code or stopping the development in favor of neverending refactoring sessions.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*
