Nationalism In WW1
Nationalism in Big Era 8 helped unite the people of a common culture into one
political body. Moreover, nationalism helped enforce the idea of cultural superiority,
which created violence throughout this period. In WWI, the interwar revolutions, and
in the rise of German fascism before WWII, nationalism was a primary catalyst.
Nationalism helped lead to the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand, which
was the initial stimulant for WWI. Additionally, nationalism lead to many countries,
most obviously India, to create reforms and unite under a common identity. Finally,
nationalism sparked WWII because it caused the rise of fascism and restored
national pride to the Germans, which lead to the breakout of WWII, and it

Before WWI, imperialized craved independence, so they created the Indian National
Congress, an elite nationalist group who wanted more rights and independence from
the British. However, during WWI, the Indian population supported the British so
they could gain freedom after the war. After the war in 1919, the British created the
Government of India Act, which gave the Indians some rights, like the ability to vote
and a limited British Government, but many Indians were dissatisfied with the
amount of rights it provided. The united Indians to form and expand their nationalist
group, especially after the Amritsar Massacre, which killed 379 Indians. This event
crystallized anti British feelings and became a rallying point for the Indian
independence movement (Goff 205). This massacre solidified the nationalist
movement within India and inspired people to fight for their nationalist rights and
independence. After this, Mohandas Gandhi became the leader of the Indian National
Congress and expanded the nationalist group to include a wider variety of people. His
nationalist beliefs also led him to boycott British manufactured goods in favor of
Indian products. In one of his most famous demonstrations, the salt march, he waded
into the water and drew out a pitcherful, which he boiled to extract the salt. This
symbolized the defiance of the British monopoly on salt and acted out against the salt
taxes (Goff 208). This motivated other Indians to promote authentic goods and unite
Indians under the goal of liberating themselves from the British. Finally, an
independent Indian state is created and Hindu and Muslim Nationalism
How Did Robert Hooke Contribute To The World
Long before the introduction of Mendelian Genetics and the discovery of the double
helix shape of DNA, scientists where making breakthroughs in the field of
molecular and cell biology, creating the fundamentals of what we know today. One
of the earliest and most influential was Robert Hooke, an English natural
philosopher, architect and Renaissance man. Hooke made numerous contributions to
all fields of science but his most famous piece of work was his book Micrographia,
which he published in 1665. Micrographia contains detailed studies and incredibly
intricate drawings of natural objects such as plants and insects. He built his own
microscopes and examined the materials making meticulous diagrams and
observations of what he saw. One of his

Of the People, By the People, For the People Essay
A defining attribute of America s system of government is the participation of the
citizens in decisions. Unlike many countries in the world today, one dictator does
not decide the path for the whole nation. People from ordinary backgrounds have the
opportunity to have an affect on laws passed in our country. While voting is the
more common form of exhibiting this privilege of participation, citizens also have
the ability to run for offices in our government. The structure of our government is
unique in that there are numerous offices to be held within our government which
are relatively equal in power. Officials within the federal government can be

The president must also enforce the laws set by congress, but the president also has
the power to veto bills that come to him from the Senate for approval.
In Article Two, Section One of the Constitution, there is a list of the qualifications to
become president. To become president, one must be a natural born citizen, thirty
five years of age, and be a resident in the United States for at least fourteen years.
These qualifications are fairly inclusive, which means that the majority of the
American population who are over thirty five years old poses the necessary
qualifications to become president.
The Legislative Branch The second branch of government is the Legislative Branch.
While the structure of this branch is split into two parts, the two sections balance
each other with their functions. The qualifications to be elected into this office are
different for the respective sections.
At the federal level, this branch is structured as a bicameral legislature. The two
houses of congress, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, operate jointly to
pass laws while providing accurate representation of the American population. The
House of Representatives contains 435 members, while the Senate possesses only
100 senators. These uneven amounts are due to the fact that the House of

Many philosophers have argued that freedom should be applied to men in society.
They argue that men should have both physical freedom and the liberty to express
themselves. However, not many philosophers take into account the freedom and
equality that women should have by nature. In the women s case, equality is a
necessary condition of freedom. In the works by women philosophers Charlotte
Perkins Gilman, Simone De Beauvoir, and Virginia Woolf, an analysis on their
works shows that these authors believe equality is absolutely a necessary condition
of freedom for women. Due to the presence of and dependence on men, women are
deprived from using their freedom to expand their knowledge, reason and their social

She believes this inequality deprives women to be able to use their reason and
freedom to their advantage. Gilman also says, her confinement to the four walls of
the house, have done great execution of course, in limiting her ideas, her
information, her thought processes, and power of judgment (Gilman 66). This
confinement of women into the position of housewife is a way in which men
deprive women of using their freedom to achieve the greatest potential they can.
Women might be free physically but they are not free mentally. After women submit
into marriage, they are enclosed and put into bubbles in which they are not allowed
to think anything that men do not approve of that might be a disadvantage to them.
Women owe everything they have to men and in return women are forced to pay the
men back through domestic labor, enslaving themselves to male dominance. Men
deprive women from the freedom to decide and they direct all the domestic
activities women perform. Because of this system, the unequal distribution of power
has not allowed women to have power over themselves and instead are enslaved in a
cage and not free to exercise and expand their knowledge and reason.
In addition to Gilman s argument about marriage inequality she also goes on to say
that women should change their cultural identities and take control of themselves by
The Role of Women in Australia 1900-1941 Essay

„«To identify, and describe the extent of, the international influences on the
role, and lives, of women in Australia before, during and after World War One
Australian women prior to World War One lived a life that consisted of traditional
female roles similar to those of their British and Irish relatives. Their value in
society was based on their ability to bear and raise children and maintain a home
and they were dependent on the financial support of their husbands. Families of 10

These female nurses provided medical help for the wounded soldiers at Gallipoli
and also on the Western Front. As most of the hospital stations were near the front
line many nurses were exposed to aerial bombs and shelling. They were expected
to work in primitive conditions; some hospitals were equipped for a mere 520
people yet held 2500 during the wartime. As a result of the long hours and poor
conditions many nurses suffered serious illnesses. A total of 2139 Australian nurses
served overseas and of these 25 died. Through enduring such adverse conditions
nurses proved extreme dedication towards the war effort and their country. As nurses
were the only women allowed to directly contribute to the war effort, the women who
couldnВЎВ¦t serve sought to boost morale, raise money and provide comfort for
soldiers, especially those who were sick or wounded. A particularly popular attempt
to assist the soldiers was that through knitting. Some 600,000 socks were knitted for
the troops from NSW alone. Women all over the nation knitted socks and various
other items to send to the front line, many with personal notes of encouragement
attached. Additionally, ВЎВ§comfort boxesВЎВЁ were compiled containing various

Why The Allies Were Victorious At The End Of World War
II
Why the Allies were victorious at the end of World War 2 The crushing defeat and
ultimate failure of the Axis Powers was caused by significant events that had a
great impact on the war. The Allies were victorious in 1945 due to the sheer
military power of the United States, the infamous Soviet Transformation and the
Battle of Moscow , the crushing fall of Japan and the vast resource differences
between the Axis Powers and the Allies. These major events that took place during
World War 2 helped shape the victorious outcome for the Allies, by not only
weakening the German s military force, but also its confidence. The sheer military
power of the United States, and their appearance in the war, both had a major
impact on the outcome of the war, striking fear into the opposing military forces.
America was and has always been a very wealthy and large economy with an
abundant supply of resources. This gave America the ability to mass produce war
machines such as planes and tanks to give them a large advantage over the Axis
Powers. The US had an over supply of war vehicles, which were later shared with
Britain and France, providing a huge advantage over the Axis Powers. According to
Historynotes, over 10 million American soldiers were ready to be deployed to help
fight against the Axis Powers . This statement clearly proves just how much military
power America had over their opponents put together. German and Italian spies were

How Immigrants Have Been Treated Over The History Of
Canada
Throughout this course, the focus has been on how Immigrants have been treated
over the history of Canada and the phases in which events and settlements began. Abu
Laban states Substantive citizenship involves pressing issues relating to equality of
rights and opportunities; treatment and life condition; and, not least, participatory
involvement that ought to come from holding formal citizenship...In short, being a
citizen is no guarantee of equality; real equality is hampered by inequalities resulting
from membership in stigmatized and minoritized groups. Within this paper I will
discuss how this quote relates and argues the four phases of Canadian Immigration
that were taught within this course. Phase One of Canadian Immigration, pre 1901,
included high British and French populations, Jewish, Polish and German Mennonite
settlements, High Asian concentration on the west coast and the Immigration Act of
1896, which focused on country of origin of Immigrants until 1962. In comparison to
Abu Laban s quote above, this phase of immigration started the stepping stones to
allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase
helped improve the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was
little discrimination on who could become a Canadian citizen. 1896 1914, prairie
settlement, was a time period of revisions on the Immigration act, this revision
allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any race deemed

Who says that to a person that didn t jump yet is what I thought at that moment.
Stop. Stop. Stop. Let s go to the beginning shall we. My family and I were in
Pershing Field Park when this happened. I met up with some of my friends that

I risk breaking them. I saw him. Darius a class mate and friend that I don t

two bars that no one is supposed to be near. Those bars that still are restricted to
kids and adults alike are a part of a swing set playground hybrid; that had monkey

going to jump; he never liked being called a chicken and would do most dares. As he
wound up for the leap, one thoughtwas running through my mindhe was going to die
or break a leg. Even though this was serious everyone was smiling and some were
laughing even me. At that time I just thought that if he was to jump he would make it
but I tried to stop him anyway. Now you must be wondering how high up he is and
what is he jumpingon to and how far away it is and if his shoes slip or something

History of Land Grant Institutions
Before 1862, higher education was a privilege for the wealthy and elite members of
society. These habits were inherited from the European class system and designed
society in an aristocratic way where nobility was viewed more importantly than
value and worth. A college education was generally available if you were wealthy,
white, and male. Many of the subjects that were available were things such as Latin,
literature, law, or the classics, usually held at a private school.
Education of the working class was left to guilds and unions, where tradesmen
instructed apprentices, their knowledge base with a learn on the job mentality. In the
United States throughout the 19th century, the entire education system was at a grass
roots level and certainly informal and independent.
The idea of education for all people was revolutionary. There was nothing else like it
in the world. At the beginning of the industrial revolution and the massive migration
into the western United States, the land grant universities represented a radical idea:
public education is fundamental to the nation s economic development.
Land grant universities stem from the Morill Land Grand Acts that were adopted
throughout the 1800 s. The Morrill Act of 1862 was also known as the Land Grant
College Act. It was a major boost to higher education in America. The grant was
originally set up to establish institutions in each state in America. These school would
educate people in agriculture, home economics,

Al 1050 English Essay
In AL 1050 Languages in the Pacific I have learned many different concepts that
has to do with the Pacific Rim. It all has to do with languages and how each island
or country speaks their own tongue, but all are similar in some way. In class I have
examined historical and contemporary language use throughout the Pacific Basin,
as well as in Hawai`i. Through exploring topics such as the effects of language
contact, pidgins and creoles, and stories of language loss and preservation, and
different cultures. The first concept I am going to talk about is language
borrowing. Language borrowing is basically when you loan a word that is
imported into a certain language called loan form. These forms now function in the
grammatical processes, with nouns taking plural or possessive forms of the new
language receiving native morphemes. An example would be the English word
alligator. Alligator came from the Spanish which is el largato. El largato in Spanish
means lizard. Loanshift another process that occurs also known as calque is when
adapting native words to the new meanings. The verb bad mouth . . . is a calque or
loan translation: it seems to come from Vai day ngatmay (a curse; literally, a bad
mouth ). The second concept I am going to talk about is language endangerment.
Language endangerment is basically when the language is at risk of becoming extinct
in the near future. Every language face a different level of threat. There are many
different levels of endangerment which

Into the Wild is a book about a young man named Chris McCandless and his
decision to go off and live in the wild. He decided to walk deep into the Alaskan
wilderness and abandon all of his possessions and family. This book is the authors,
Jon Krakauer, version of Chris McCandless story put together through interviewing

his loved ones.
In my opinion on what motivated Chris McCandless to venture off into the wild was
his need to get out of mainstream society and to not live the life that was originally
planned out for him. On his journey to Mt. McKinley, Alaska, he met some friends.

too weak to hike to safety and was alone. In the note, he sounded very desperate and
panicked. He seemed helpless, courageous and at the same time regretful. He seemed
helpless because he stated that he was injured and in need of help. He seemed

Representations of Native Americans in Dances with

Film is more than the instrument of a representation; it is also the object of
representation. It is not a reflection or a refraction of the real ; instead, it is like a
photograph of the mirrored reflection of a painted image. (Kilpatrick) Although
films have found a place in society for about a century, the labels they possess, such
as stereotypes which Natives American are recognized for, have their roots from
many centuries ago (Kilpatrick). The Searchers, a movie directed by John Fordand
starred by John Wayne, tells the story of a veteran of the American Civil War and
how after his return home he would go after the maligned Indians who killed his

These harmful images of how the Indian Americans were depicted, were
subliminally created by him in many of his previous films where they were
repeatedly stereotyped under the maligned appearance of bloodthirsty savages and
hardly ever illustrated by their alter ego the noble savages. These descriptions and
especially the denigrated bloodthirsty savage illustrations of the Indians remain
seen as purely animals into the eyes of non native populations, which caused racial
discrimination against them at that epoch. Therefore, John Ford tried to redeem
himself by making the film The Searchers, where he tried to expose the nefarious
causes of resentment and racism that at that time the general population had for
the Indians. This way of apology is likely to be strong supported by the image of
the film s hero. The depiction of the hero stresses the despicable habits of the
westerners such as the tendency of the prejudices towards others. As shown by the
arrival of the John Wayne character to his brother s house and how he looked at
Martin who is half blood Indian. Similarly, Dances with Wolves represented an
explicit apology to the indigenous people. However, although it was made by a
white person point of view, it emphasizes Indians points of view. This is implicitly
represented as the hero who is a white soldier from the American Civil War
transformed himself into a real Indian of the Lakota Sioux tribe. Although both films

William Wordsworth As A Romantic Poet
William Wordsworth was born in April 7, 1770 in a village on the edge of the Lake
District in northwest England. In 1787 Wordsworth was enrolled at St. Johs
College, Cambridge as a scholarship student, but because he was un interested in
the curriculum, he decided to depend on self reading. During his twenty s years of
central events have took place in Wordsworth life, receiving money from a friend
that enabled him to process a house, and the establishment of collaboration with
Smauel coleride that led to the publication of a volume of poems and ballads. Many
of his poems were composed while he was walking through a neighborhood, a park,

1 Romantic writers as Wordsworth see themselves as reacting against the though

and the satisfactions achieved from the nature followed by feelings of pleasure.
Nature meant great deal to the romantics, such as it has been perceived as the

Social Media And Low Self-Esteem In The Media
Currently, there is a significant amount of individuals with low self esteem in the
world. Each day this number increases because of the discouragement of being
unique. Doctor Joe Rubino recently stated that 85% of the world s population is
affected by low self esteem. In recent times, the media, Adobe Photoshop, and
professional modeling have become prevalent in lives. These sources of negativity
are the significant causes of this growing problem of low self esteem. Media includes
distinct parts such as social media, magazines, the internet, and television. Although
the platforms are different, all are similar because of the advertisement of flawless
qualities. These promotions sabotage any courage to be a unique individual. The
media is becoming increasingly prevalent in the lives of people. People depend on it
to identify what appearances are superior. Instead of identifying perks, the media is
averting their attention to a persons flaws. This is sending a negative message to
those who are dependent on the media s information. It is conveying that flaws are
unnatural. Yet, it will also state that everyone should feel confident. Media sources
should have no role in how one lives. The media expressing that people aren t
suitable enough is spreading hatred among others. This hatred is leading to the
growth of low self esteem. Despite the media s beliefs, individuals are unique and
thus beautiful despite their flaws. All magazine covers likely have a
Entertainment in the Gilded Age
In the late 1800 s, American society began to burst with cultural activity. After the
Civil War and the Reconstruction, Americans were eager to return to their normal
lifestyles. The period that followed, however, was quite different from what the
country was used to. During the war, many pushed hard for a rise in industry,
leading to an explosive industrial revolution far beyond what people had expected.
America s business and economy had boomed, and, as the new century approached,
many had a new outlook on life. They were eager to escape the dull regiments of
both the past Victorian era and the new urban lifestyle. This was easy for the upper
and middle classes, both of which were growing due to the rapid increase in industry.

some people, such as Rudolph Wulitzer, knew how to take advantage of America s
new taste for music. Wulitzer was a German immigrant who found moderate success
in importing musical instruments from his home country. In the 1890 s, however,
he changed his focus to musical machines. He invented the first coin operated

Construction Manager Career Paper
The career that I chose to this research on paper is a Construction Project Manager
(CPM). I chose this career for many different reasons, mainly because I have always
liked construction and my brother went to school and his doing this profession. I also
chose this because this job requires a lot of what I would like to do in my future
career. In this paper I am going to talk about the duties/responsibilities, educational
requirements, job demand, salary, skills/personality, stresses/satisfactions, and the
demand/future of a construction project manager. The first thing about a
Construction Project Manager that I am going to talk about are the duties of a that a
CPM could have. Every project is different and the duties may be different depending

According to Career Cruising, in the next ten years there will be a 6% growth for
individuals in this profession. There is a greater increase for specific areas of
construction and it all depends on the location someone is willing to work.
Locations for a construction project manager can be just about anywhere and there
are lots of possibilities if a person is willing to travel. There are local opportunities
to stay around the area but many larger companies work nationwide and if an
individual wanted to travel, these types of opportunities are available for this
career. For example, my brother did a couple of internships with a construction
company called Kiewit, who does work worldwide, and he did a lot of traveling to
different jobs throughout the summers when he worked there. My brother also did
an internship with Market and Johnson and now he works full time for them. There
are local companies who stay around this area but this convenience can vary in price
and it all depends on what type of company one wants to work

Root Cause Analysis:
Root cause analysis (RCA) is used in different fields to conduct a systematic
search to find the causes of a specific sentinel event (Jacob, 2010). The main goal
for conducting a RCA is to prevent similar adverse events from happening in the
future (Jacob, 2010). In this paper, I will use the scenario provided in the task to
create a complete RCA report as well as improvement plans that will prevent
similar incidents from happening again. RCA is best done as soon as an adverse
event has happened (Jacob, 2010). The first step in the RCA is to identify what had
happened (Jacob, 2010). In the scenario, Mr. B was admitted to the Emergency
Room (ER) after a fall. During the treatment, Mr. B was given ... Show more content

To do so, I am going to use the fishbone diagram to categorize the causative factors
(Potter Perry, 2008). For patient characteristics, Mr. B was a 67 year old patient
with routine use of oxycodone to treat chronic pain. Because of his routine use of
oxycodone, he may need a different dose to get to a sedated level than other people
who are not on any medication. Next is the task factors, the hospital had a policy
which requires that anyone who are treated with moderate sedation or analgesia have
to be put on continuous blood pressure, ECG, and pulse oximeter monitoring until
the procedure is done and patient is in stable condition. Mr. B was not being
monitored accordingly during the sedation process. Another task factors is that all
staffs must first complete a training module on sedation before performing the task.
Individual staff is a factor too, Nurse J had completed the training module on
sedation, he had an ACLS certification as well as experience working as a critical
care nurse. Team factors include communication between staffs; an example would
be the LPN not informing Nurse J or Dr. T when the alarm went off the first time, it
showed that Mr. B had low oxygen saturation. Work environment factors included the
staffing in the ER, the equipments they had, and the level of experience of the staffs.
According to the scenario, additional staffs were available for back up support and
all the equipment needed
Hypothyroidism vs. Hyperthyroidism
Hypo/Hyperthyroidism
Both hypo and hyperthyroidism are a result of a disease in caused by malfunction of
the thyroid gland located in the neck as represented by the image below left. The
causes of chronic hypothyroidism are fairly distinct. Around the world in third world
and developing countries, iodine deficiency is the most common cause of
hypothyroidism. This used to be true as well for developed countries, but today this
is a less common cause as iodine usually finds its way into our diets without too
much trouble. In modern day developed countries, hypothyroidism is mainly a result
of Hashimoto s thyroiditis, a birth defect which lacks a thyroid gland or a deficiency
of hormones from either the hypothalamus or the pituitary gland. ... Show more

Hyperthyroidism is caused by an excess of thyroxine (T4) or triiodothyronine (T3), or
both. This excess is a result of a malfunction of the thyroid gland as indicated by the
picture below. There are many different symptoms of hyperthyroidism, some of the
most common being major weight loss despite having a insatiable appetite, anxiety,
heat intolerance, fatigue, weakness, hyperactivity, irritability, apathy, depression, and
sweating. In addition, many experience shortness of breath, loss of balance, nausea,
vomiting, osteoporosis, and diarrhea. However, those who undergo hyperthyroidism
later in life may not experience most of these symptoms at all and instead only feel
constantly fatigued and considerable weight loss. Nonetheless, neurological
symptoms may occur in addition to the physical manifestations. These neurological
symptoms include tremor, chorea (ticks), myopathy (muscle weakness), and
temporary but periodic paralysis. There are a variety of ways to treat
hyperthyroidism, depending on the age of the patient, the size of their thyroid gland,
and their general health. The most common treatments include beta blockers, which
do not actually cure hyperthyroidism but mask some of the symptoms such as
tremors, anxiety and so on. This, however, is not advised for those with heart or lung
problems. Another possible treatment for this disease is radioactive iodine, or RAI.
RAI therapy is the most common treatment for hyperthyroidism
Alaska s State Turtle Is The Largest Of Four Species Of...
Have you ever heard of a Western painted Turtle? Well if you are from Colorado you
should know what they are! Western painted turtles are Colorado s state turtle. How
did that come about? Well in 2007 Jay Baichis 4th grade class came together because
they wanted these colorful turtles to be our state turtles. Why? Because these beautiful
turtles are found by many lakes, ponds, and water bays around Colorado. They have
bright beautiful colors just like Colorado. The Western Painted Turtlebecame our
state turtle a year later after the 4th graders went through all the legal ways and the
process to make it happen. The 4th graders had gone to governor Ritter on March
18, 2008 and told him why the turtles should be our state turtle, and Ritter had signed
the HB 08 1017. Now let s get into more detail about our state reptile.
The Western Painted Turtle is the largest of four species of turtles. They can grow
up to about 8 inches and the males are generally smaller than the females. Their
shells are nice and smooth and are about 250mm long. They are called painted
turtles because their lower shell is a bright red with yellow and olive green colored
designs spread through their shells. They have yellow lines on each side of their
neck that are about the same size that go all the way to their head. They are cold
blooded animals so they cannot control their body temperature. They have to go
under the mud or sand to keep themselves warm. Western Painted Turtles are aquatic
reptiles so
The Lasting Effect Of Colonialism On Haiti
Unlike most of Latin America, Haiti s main colonizing power was France, not
Spain or Portugal, after France was given one third of Hispaniola. To this day you
can see the lasting effects of colonialism in Haiti especially in comparison to the
Dominican Republic which shares the same island. While Haiti, formerly Saint
Domingue under French control, was at one time the world s wealthiest sugar and
coffee producer, the tides have changed in terms of Haitis economy and it is now one
of the worst off in terms of measurement of GDP per capita and income inequality.
This change largely took place after the Haitian revolution, which transformed Haiti s
economy to a rural subsistence economy, instead of the capital intensive plantation
economy it had been. As other states, including neighboring DR, developed
competitive commodity industries, Haiti never jumped on that export led growth
path and there was overall less investment making its way to Haiti in comparison to
other states in the region. Also, Haiti was not a part of the Golden Age period of
Latin America from 1950 1973. With a brief understanding of Haiti s background, a
more solid understanding of their economic performance, challenges, assets and
current conditions can be developed further.
However, before diving deeper into Haiti s current economic plight, it is necessary
to first comprehend how economic well being is derived. Economic well being is
certainly not easily reflected by one measurement, say GDP per

What is the operational efficiency of a solar powered UHF RFID tag?
1.Literature Review Exercise
Over the years, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) has evolved tremendously
overtaking all the other wireless modes of data transfer and identification
technologies. It has a huge advantage over the barcode technology, some of which
are additional information storage capacity, a line of sight detection is not required
and so on. Barcodes also have the disadvantage of being harder to detect during broad
sunlight or some other factors like being smudged or when printed on certain
substrates. (R.Want, 2006). Hence, RFID is used ... Show more content on

As a consequence, passive RFID tags are used for far field emissions.
Here we concentrate on solar powered UHF RFID tags which mainly help reader
independent operations like sensing, data logging, computation and other
functions. One method of powering passive tag by solar energy is by giving it as
a supplementary power source because it otherwise displays poor read ranges and
cannot run its own circuitry. Hence necessary DC power is derived from the panels
and converted to the frequency usable by the tag. This new signal is forwarded to the
tag antenna which when combined with the reader signal would increase the read
range. (Ferdous, Reza, Siddiqui, 2016)
Few other designs for solar powered UHF RFID mentioned in the conference paper
(Sample et al., 2011) are: RFID IC antennas have solar cells(powerfilim SP3 37)
incorporated on it will be a low cost reduced size structure. However, they are not
continually available and hence this design can only demonstrate the RF antennas
performance with no information about the effects of supply of a large amount of
power to a tag. The second design rectifies this drawback by using Intel Lab s open
source WISP 4.1 Platform. Unlike the first design, this one can expose the
unregulated power supply pin so to augment the tag s power source. However, the
read range is considerably small and because of the variation in the input impedance,
it will require a different antenna design. There are many evolving designs about

Introduction:
The Government of any country will be the agency or machinery through which
the will of the people is realised, expressed and formulated. But for the will of the
people to be so expressed, realised and formulated, there needs to be a well
organized system which works together, jointly as well as separately for ultimate
achievement of the goal, which in a democracy would be to help people realise
their will, express that will and help the people to formulate the ideas as to what is
right for society and be part of what would then become ideally, a true and well
functioning democracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was an ardent believer in the theory of natural law which is a philosophy of law
that is determined by nature and so would be universal. Natural law refers to the use
of reason to analyze human nature, both socially as well as personally and to deduce
binding rules out of morality and moral behaviour out of them.
Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers whereby there would a
legislative body which has the ultimate power of making laws, he believed that the
legislative authority should be given such power, because the members of such
legislative authority are elected by the people who will be the guardian of the natural
laws that he holds dear and as his first and foremost priority.
John Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers, but rather than the
tri partite system as we know today, he believed in a bi partite system of governance
that included just the executive and the legislature, the legislature being in this case
the law making body, whereas the executive would be the king on the monarchy who
could exercise judicial powers.
John Locke was questioned by certain other philosophers of government policy on
how there could be an executive who is a monarch who has an absolute power
alongside a democratic legislature which makes their own laws which are the
representative of the will of the society in general,
Charles Darwin s Research In The Galapagos Islands
The first force of evolution is mutations. Mutations are the only way that DNA can
create entirely unique structures. Without mutations, evolution would be impossible.
The second force is natural selection. The idea of natural selection came from
Charles Darwin and his research in the Galapagos Islands. There, he discovered that
animals were adapting to the environment around them and highlighted some key
differences in their phenotypes based on their home environment. The third force is
genetic drift. Genetic drift is where specific alleles appear and others fade away
purely by chance. Over time, these changes have large effects over populations. The
fourth force is geneflow. Gene flow is the study of how certain genes are spread out

A Drive Through The Country Analysis
In Graham Greene s collection Twenty One Stories the works vary greatly in topic,
character, plot and place. While the themes in several of the stories compliment the
other, one element of craft and its effect that is most prominent is the dialogue. In the
story A Drive Through the Country the nameless protagonist sneaks out of the house
to meet her troubled lover Fred. As they drive through the country, Fred s impulsive
behavior amplifies and both their lives are suddenly at risk. In The Basement Room a
young boyleft home with the house keepers for a weekend also leaves his house
without supervision. When he returns he witnesses a violent, haunting event. It is
obvious through the summary that both stories hold suspense. However, it is Greene
s construction of dialoguewhere the suspense forms and heightens. The narration that
takes place before or in between the moments of dialogue show us that the characters
do not say what they mean, therefore their fates and the stories future goings on hold
mystery. If they do not discuss their fears, desires, curiosities, will they ever get what
they want? Will they escape possible danger? These are the questions readers ponder
during the crucial moments of dialogue and without these questions the stories would
lack mystery and suspense. For it is through Greene s straightforward narration,
coupled with dialogue, that bring readers intrigue, mystery and ultimately leads us to
care about the characters and the stories endings.
Deceitful Love In Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
Deceitful Love
Hemingway was a person who showed hostility towards women. In his novels he
always portrayed the woman as the person who was always in the wrong. In The
Sun Also Rises, Brett is the woman portrayed as a victim where she can choose a
guy to be with. It may be just the luck Hemingway has had with woman, but showing
distaste in them in his novels definitely shows women are not his favorite. Modern
day women were thought out to be fully clothed, nicely dressed, and a one man kind
of woman; but in The Sun Also Rises, Brett was shown as the modern day flapper
whose clothing and lifestyle were definitely different from those who had normal
traditions. Brett may have been lost throughout the course of the novel, but in the end

he ended up coming over to her table after Jake left. Soon, they ended up leaving
the cafe together without anyone knowing. Obviously, Brett still does not care
that Mike, her fiance is in the same town with her while she leaves with another

Brett ended up leaving town together after Romero had won the fight. When Mike

Jake stayed behind. A few days later Jake received a telegram from Brett stating

Risk Of Harm And Abuse
LEARNING OUTCOME 3
3.1 EXTENT TO WHICH INDIVIDUALS ARE AT RISK OF HARM
It would be untrue to claim that the care provided to service users protects them
from risk. In fact, the care that service users receive could put them at risk of harm
and abuse. Service users are exposed to risks like everybody else, except they might
experience it to a different extent. These risks include but are not limited to the below;
A.Physical: Because vulnerable people in most cases cannot express or defend
themselves effectively, they are liable to physical abuse. For example, an individual
with severe mental disabilities physically abuse by a rouge care worker.
B.Psychological/ Mental: When a person with a disability is constantly shammed by
people around them, it can contribute to their disability, sending them into depression
or worse. Physical or mental abuse could be verbal and non verbal. Unkind things
said, unkind and discriminatory manners in which service users could be treated is a
major risk to their safety.
C.Financial: A vulnerable person who cannot handle their finances on his/her own
and requires another person to do so for him/her; family member, friend, or
professional; is at major risk of fraud. Multiple times, vulnerable individuals have
been defrauded and even harmed physically all killed by the people they entrusted
their safety to.
D.Self inflicted harm: Also referred to as self injurious behavior, a large percentage

Jeffery D. Arthurs Shimon Bar-Efrat
All stories have movement. The plot is the literary element that provides a sense of
movement to the narrative. Shimon Bar Efrat referred to the Plot as the body of the
narrative (Bar Efrat 2000, 93). He added that the plot consists of an organized and
orderly system of events, arranged in temporal sequence (93). The author of the
narrativepurposely planned the timing and events within the narrative. The plotnot
only provides movement, yet it also serves to elicit interest and to stir the emotions
of the reader. For Jeffery D. Arthurs, the plot engages readers by inducing a feeling
of suspense as it moves a conflict from disequilibrium to resolution (Arthurs 2006,

This movement does not happen at once; rather the plot unfolds

The Presidential Election Elections Election
In the 2000 United States Presidential election, the close pre election polls showed
the election could be won by either the Republican or the Democrat Party. Both
Parties had two strong candidates, with a handful of other third party candidates,
including Green Party and Reform Party representatives. As I watched the results of
the 2000 presidential election, I felt bad for Vice President Albert Gore, Jr. The
Presidency seemed to be well within Governor George W. Bushs grasp. The
television news networks were showing a big lead for Bush across the country. I
turned the television off in my office, and I advised my Soldiers to get back to
work. My Soldiers and I were stationed overseas in the Republic of Korea. We were
thirteen hours ahead of the Eastern Time zone in the United States. We worked for
the Commanding General for all United States Troops in Korea. The General often
spoke about the election, but never let on which candidate got his vote. When I
turned on the news at home that same evening, I was shocked to learn the
presidency had not been decided. It seemed Gore rebounded across the country;
however the total vote count in some states is too close to call. The 2000
Presidential election was important to me because the last time a Bush was in

Kfj Aims And Objectives
A business aim is the goal a business wants to achieve. A primary aim for all business
organizations is to add value and in the private sector this involves making a profit.
More strategic aims include expansion, market leadership and brand building. (http:/

The aims are the long term plans a business would like to achieve probably over a
certain period of time. An aim is a statement of purpose where the business wants to
go in the future. Given
Fig: The focus of business aims and objectives
Above given figure is an example of focus of business aims and objectives and is a
general example of aims any business could have. KFFJ being an established and
developing organization, it has similar aims. So KFFJ focuses on the following:
Profit and profit maximization KFFJ is a private organization and it aims to make

To achieve the aims, the priority of KFFJ should be the satisfaction of the
stakeholders. It must work in such a way that every stakeholder is equally
benefitted and the profit is not concentrated on a certain group. The working method
and team dynamics of one department has a considerable impact on the other. If
there befalls lack of coordination of any sort; it could affect the overall individual as
well as the shared goal. If the aims deviate from its original direction, the strategies
are bound to change. If the stakeholders such as customers, local citizens, etc. sense
any unsatisfactory performance, they tend to lose their trust. This will definitely have
an impact on KFFJ. Thus stakeholders drive the company towards its aims and
fulfillment of the aims benefits the stakeholders. It is like a mere

It is compatible with Keurig s K cups and is less expensive to the consumer. The
main competitors in the mainstream single cup coffee system market in the
United States are Keurig, Tassimo, and Senseo. The less competitive players in
the market are Mr. Coffee and Nescafe, while NestlГ© s Nespresso is currently the
only serious contender in the high end market in the United States. GMCR invests
significant resources and capital in engineering and research and development in
order to keep Keurig s position as the leader in the single cup brewing market. As a
result, they have a strong and growing portfolio of market leading, proprietary
technology. Keurig s integrated engineering team drives fast and original product
development in brewers, portion packs, and high speed packaging lines; all three
areas that supported Keurig s single cup system. The engineering team at Keurig
includes mechanical, software, and nutritional science, as well as quality assurance
and industrial engineering. The company s emphasis on quality products, easy to
use features, and innovative technologies has earned Keurig high marks in
customer satisfaction. GMCR started distribution of the new single cup Keurig
premium coffee system to office coffee service and food service providers in 1998.
Keurig s strategy to gain market share in the office market is to sell machines to
distributors and encourage them to give the machines away or lease them for a small
fee.
Difference Between Stylistics And Corpus Analysis
1.Introduction:
1.1 Scope of the Study
Stylistics and corpus analysis regarded as a huge scientific approach in the field of
language in general and in linguistics field in particular. Every linguist or researcher
can use stylistics to prove or disprove certain claim, as well as, highlighting the style
of writing of any author. Corpus analysis software s rabid evolution makes it the most
important tool in stylistics because of the high accuracy and the time saving. During
Charles Dickens time the whole atmosphere and the conditions of the poor were
regrettable, that high ranking people treated them as if they were slaves, especially
children.
Dickens highlighted those horrible conditions in most of his novels. So, the

lack of good quality, usable electronic texts and it is difficult to find and evaluate
what is available . (Wynne, M. (2005) P.4). But, many online texts are not always

A Summary Of The Language In Antony And Cleopatra
This passage, taken from William Shakespeare s play Antony and Cleopatra,
shows Octavius Caesar discussing with Lepidus about what they should do about
Antony whom Caesar thinks at this moment in the play is currently frolicking
with Cleopatra, the pharaoh of Egypt, instead of doing his duties. The passage also
contains accounts from Caesar about the man Antony once was as well as his
vivid opinion on Antony s current state. This essay will analyse the language, form
and the tone of Caesar the passage as well as examining its significance in relation
to the rest of the play. The entire passage is written in poetic form which
emphasises not only the power and position within the Roman hierarchy Lepidus
and Caesar are in but also that they very much act like Roman leaders. It creates an
aura of pomposity around them and that they lack a certain humbleness that
characters such as Enobarbus possess as, up to this point, he has spoken in prose.
The poetic form also sets up that they are very much equals to Antony and Cleopatra
due to them speaking in poetic form in the previous scene. This equality foreshadows
the rivalry and antagonistic behaviour between Caesar and Antony due to them being
similar and yet different. This pomposity is furthered when Caesar, while speaking
in the third person, lays out the recent actions of Antony. The manner in which he
describes these actions ( he fishes, drinks, and wastes/The lamps of night in revel )
sounds as the lyrical and flowing
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is defined as a mental disorder in which an
individual has a pervasive pattern of grandiosity . . . lack of empathy, [is] self
centered and require the admiration of others (Lyons, C., Martin, B., 2014, pg. 206).
Although Narcissism has it own symptoms, it has similarities with other disorders
such as disregard of others, instability in relationships, tend to be emotional and
attention seeking, and exaggerate self importance. Though the exact cause of this
personality disorderis unknown, there have been numerous speculations and theories.
What is known however, is that an individual that is of Narcissistic Personality

While most people would clearly be aware of the fact that they have to wait in line
(as most individuals do) in order to pay for their items and be on their way, a
narcissists would disagree. This is because Narcissist as talked about the Abnormal
Psychology book, . . . do not care to wait in line or take their turn: they expect
special privileges because of their obvious superiority to others (Lyons, C., Martin,
B., 2014, pg. 206). They believe and view themselves as priority regardless of their
location or circumstance. In their minds limits, exclusions, the word no, or off
limits does not apply to them simply because of their apparent superiority to others.
Due to these beliefs, they . . . are condescending and haughtily in attitude and
behavior. (206) towards anyone who crosses their path. This too applies to their
relationships, whether family, social, or acquaintance. Narcissist view others as
means to their ends, because of their perspective they do not feel empathy and use
others for their own gains. Which is why often times, they will surround themselves
with individuals that will feed their ego due to that, they always want, look for, and
expect to receive compliments from others. However, if they do not receive the
attention or compliments expected, this will further encourage their Narcissistic
ways in order to protect the well being of their ego and avoid
Advocating For The Legalization Of Marijuana Is Not A
Novel
Advocating for the legalization of marijuana is not a novel cause. However,
recently the public has grown increasingly aware on the benefits of marijuana. The
drug is no longer for hippies who live in a van, at least not exclusively. It can be
used by patients suffering from a variety of illnesses, including cancer, anxiety,
depression, autism and more; however, studies are still being conducted on the
effectiveness of these treatments. Many people advocate for the legalization of the
drug solely based on the tax revenue it will provide. Although it is a notable benefit
to the potential policy change, taxes do not affect equality nor efficiency of the
economy. It is merely a transfer of money. Equality and efficiency are the two most...

Although the African American jail population today is nowhere near as large as it
was in the 1800 s, it is still disproportionately disadvantaging African Americans along
with other racial minorities. Not only are the incarceration rates unjust, but they are
the largest in the world, despite a decline in violent crime for the past few decades
(Lofstrom and Raphael, 2016). According to the Uniform Crime Reports, which
categorize both property crimes and violent crimes, each month per 100,000
people. Property crimes include incidents involving the burglary and theft of
property. Conversely, murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults are
categorized as violent crimes (Lofstrom and Raphael, 2016). The data associated
with both crimes shows a consistent decrease in reported crime since the 1990 s.
Violent crime reports decreased from 750 in 1990 per 100,000 people to below 400
in 2010, while property crime reports went from a little over 5,000 to just under
3,000. It is important to note that only reports of crime went down, not crime itself;
however, the numbers are significant enough to imply a decline in criminal activity.

The Pros And Cons Of The Fair Work Commission
The Fair Work Commission has reviewed penalty rates in many businesses such as
hospitality, restaurants and retail industry awards. According to section 156 of the
Fair Work Act 2009, there is a need to deal with this issue as a prospectus of a
broader review of modern awards. As per The Australian Fair Work Commission,
there is a reduction of 5 % in Sunday penalty rates in this year for workers, who are
working in hospitality and this will increase to 10% in 2018 and 2018 as well. The
same trend can be seen in the retail or pharmacy sectors and their worker will have
to take home Sunday cut by 5% this year and until 2020, it will reduce by a further
15%.This imperative has advantages and disadvantages as well. Business giants
have appreciated the decision and said that they can open their business on
weekends and will be able to hire more employees. JB Hi Fi and Myer will fall
under the categories of those big retailers who will get benefits from these changes.
On the other hands, retail workers will face the biggest hit. For example, employees
working in the hospitality sector will face the reduction in the rates from 175% to
150%, however, casuals will get will same rates without any changes.
According to our point of view, this decision will harm to the lowest paid workers
and profitable for big businesses. From economic point of view, if there is a cut in
employee s wages then their income will fall and they will spend less, moreover, there
is a positive correlation

Shawshank Film Critque
The Shawshank Redemption Film Critique The Shawshank Redemption is a
brilliant story set in the brutal life of Shawshank Penitentiary. The movie has a
very well structured plot; there is a clear beginning, middle, and end Act I, Act II,
and Act III which all come together as a whole to make a great film. In the movie, a
young banker, Andy, is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and is
sentenced to Shawshank Penitentiary. In prison, Andy meets and forms a strong bond
with another convicted killer, Red; the narrator of the story. Red plays an important
role in the prison; he can deliver contraband of almost any type into the prison. This

The warden of Shawshank, Norton, also realizes that a man of Andy s skills is
useful. Norton is doing some sort of scam and asks Andy for his help there as well.
One day, Andy hears from another prisoner, Tommy, whose former cellmate had
bragged about killing a rich golfer and a lawyer s wife, and framing the lawyer for
the crime. Upon hearing Tommy s tale, Andy realizes that if this evidence could be
brought before a court, he could be given a new trial and a chance at freedom.
Norton mocks at the story, however, and as soon as possible he makes sure Tommy
pays for his actions. Andy is too constructive and helpful to the warden to be
allowed to go free; furthermore, he knows every element about Norton s corrupt
dealings. After losing his temper with the warden over the issue, and spending a
couple of months in solitary as a result, Andy convince himself that he will never
be set free legally. After many years in prison, Andy shares information with Red
about a mystery secret hidden behind a rock wall, describing exactly how to find
the place and how one day a false identity Peter Stevens will own a small seaside
resort hotel in Mexico. Andy also tells Red that he could use a man who knows how
to get things. Red, confused about why Andy has confided this information in him,
reflects on Andy s continued ability to surprise. So much of the details are important

The Effects Of Living With Landmines For The Wellbeing
Of...
Introduction
This paper will analyse Davies (2015) Ph.D. thesis Living with landmines . In this
research, Davies attempts to answer the question: What are the implications of living
with landmines for the wellbeing of local people? (Davies, 2015:15). This essay will
therefore look into the efficiency and accuracy of the methodology by which Davies
attempts to answer this question. To do this, the methodology will be firstly put in
context to have a broad understanding of the research field. This paper will then
assess the study s mains weaknesses and strengths through the RATS (Relevance,
Appropriateness, Transparency, Soundness) qualitative researchevaluation (Clark,
2003). Finally, a series of adjustments will be suggested to counteract the
methodology s potential flaws.
Davies introduces her methodology outline as a complex study which draws on
several different qualitative methods. This enables her to explore separate
dimensions in which landmines can affect people s living conditions; adapting
different data collection methods depending on context, believing flexibility to be
crucial for the success of the study. For this reason, Davies considers herself a
bricolage researcher, using a variety of qualitative research methods to piece together
a holistic picture (Davies, 2015:113). This approach allowed her to gain an insight
into the complex reality of living with landmines. The study itself consists of a
qualitative research project divided into three
Coles Human Resources Management Report Essay
Coles Human Resource Management Evaluation Report
Abstract
This report illustrates two key HRM strategies used by Coles Supermarkets Reward
Management and Performance Management. The core competence and business goal
of Coles are elaborated and the room for improvement have been identified, whereby
Reward management and its implementation have been critically analysed to bridge
the gap between their operational loss (weakness) and optimum performance (desired
goal). Likewise, the method in which Performance Management is used by Coles to
lead their employees to work both efficiently and effectively has been analysed.
Performance Management is a useful tool to evaluate and ensure employee activities

For example, in either recruit policies or retain policies of Coles, the Fair Work
Act must be considered. The second factor is the condition of whole economy
such as Inflation, change in pay rates and salaries. During the inflation stage, the
increasing living cost will cause higher demand of income to satisfy the living
standard. So, now it is the time to change reward system to be more effective.
Meanwhile, the change of pay rates and salaries can affect the HRM as well. The
third one is social factors such as different cultures of employees. For instance,
when an US company operates a division in India, the HRM should be different
than America s to ensure all employees with different cultures can work well
together. The fourth factor that can affect HRM is technological change. High
quality employees must be skilled in the latest technological devices because it can
improve the efficiency of work and help the achievement of the organization s
goals. As a result, it will affect the organization s recruit policies. The fifth factor is
that can affect HRM is environmental factors such as harsh weather conditions or
greenfields. For Coles, if a supermarket operate in a greenfield area or in a harsh
weather conditions, the recruit and retain policies must be changed to attract more
people to work there. The last factor is legal which means any laws that can affect
HRM. For example, the minimum wages set
The Death Of An Ancient Greek Philosopher
Many individuals fear the thought of death given that they feel the uneasiness of not
knowing what happens when one is dead. For example, some fear things like a
continuation of their sense perception post death allowing the possibility of being
punished for all the bad actions in their lifetime. Epicurus, an ancient Greek
philosopher of the Hellenistic period of 323 31 BCE, believed that deathis the end of
our existence and thus argued that the act of fearing death is irrational (Letter to
Menoeceus, 10.124 125). The Epicurean argument I will discuss in this paper is in
support of him claiming the fearof death is irrational is better titled as the privation
of experience argument. In his own words Epicurus claimed that death is nothing
to us in his Letter to Menoeceus (10.124). It is important to clarify that in the
privation of experience argument Epicurus speaks on the state of being dead and
not the process of death. So, for the purpose of this essay, like Epicurus, I will
accept the notion that death is the end of our existence. In this essay I will present
the privation of experience argument in my own words based on my interpretation of
his argument. I will also explain how this Epicurean argument is valid given that one
can live a happy comfortable life simply by having the right attitude about the state of
being dead.
Before I present my interpretation of Epicurus privation of experience argument I
will state that Epicurus held a hedonistic point of view
Irish Identity And Poetry Of William Butler Yeats And...
William Butler Yeats is one of the most esteemed poets in 20th century literature
and is well known for his Irish poetry. While Yeats was born in Ireland, he spent
most of his adolescent years in London with his family. It wasn t until he was a
teenager that he later moved back to Ireland. He attended the Metropolitan School
of Art in Dublin and joined the Theosophical Society soon after moving back. He
was surrounded by Irish influences most of his life, but it was his commitment to
those influences and his heritage that truly affected his poetry. William Butler
Yeats s poetry exemplifies how an author s Irish identity can help create and
influence his work.Maud Gonne, an Irish nationalist and patriot, was a huge muse
to Yeats and his poetry. Her passion for Ireland and its freedom was a large part of
the reason why William Yeats was so passionate about the dealings in Ireland
himself. Maud was born in England but loved Ireland and believed strongly in its
independence from Britain. Although she is most known for her association with
William Butler Yeats, she had many accomplishments herself. She created the
Daughters of Ireland. The Daughters of Ireland was an organization which provided
a home for Irish nationalist women and encouraged the study of: Gaelic, Irish
literature, history, music and art. Maud also went on a crusade to improve prison
conditions after she suffered a brief imprisonment herself. She even wrote a
bestselling book herself called A Servant of the

  • 2. Nationalism In WW1 Nationalism in Big Era 8 helped unite the people of a common culture into one political body. Moreover, nationalism helped enforce the idea of cultural superiority, which created violence throughout this period. In WWI, the interwar revolutions, and in the rise of German fascism before WWII, nationalism was a primary catalyst. Nationalism helped lead to the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand, which was the initial stimulant for WWI. Additionally, nationalism lead to many countries, most obviously India, to create reforms and unite under a common identity. Finally, nationalism sparked WWII because it caused the rise of fascism and restored national pride to the Germans, which lead to the breakout of WWII, and it encouraged the British... Before WWI, imperialized craved independence, so they created the Indian National Congress, an elite nationalist group who wanted more rights and independence from the British. However, during WWI, the Indian population supported the British so they could gain freedom after the war. After the war in 1919, the British created the Government of India Act, which gave the Indians some rights, like the ability to vote and a limited British Government, but many Indians were dissatisfied with the amount of rights it provided. The united Indians to form and expand their nationalist group, especially after the Amritsar Massacre, which killed 379 Indians. This event crystallized anti British feelings and became a rallying point for the Indian independence movement (Goff 205). This massacre solidified the nationalist movement within India and inspired people to fight for their nationalist rights and independence. After this, Mohandas Gandhi became the leader of the Indian National Congress and expanded the nationalist group to include a wider variety of people. His nationalist beliefs also led him to boycott British manufactured goods in favor of Indian products. In one of his most famous demonstrations, the salt march, he waded into the water and drew out a pitcherful, which he boiled to extract the salt. This symbolized the defiance of the British monopoly on salt and acted out against the salt taxes (Goff 208). This motivated other Indians to promote authentic goods and unite Indians under the goal of liberating themselves from the British. Finally, an independent Indian state is created and Hindu and Muslim Nationalism

How Did Robert Hooke Contribute To The World Long before the introduction of Mendelian Genetics and the discovery of the double helix shape of DNA, scientists where making breakthroughs in the field of molecular and cell biology, creating the fundamentals of what we know today. One of the earliest and most influential was Robert Hooke, an English natural philosopher, architect and Renaissance man. Hooke made numerous contributions to all fields of science but his most famous piece of work was his book Micrographia, which he published in 1665. Micrographia contains detailed studies and incredibly intricate drawings of natural objects such as plants and insects. He built his own microscopes and examined the materials making meticulous diagrams and observations of what he saw. One of his

  • 5. Of the People, By the People, For the People Essay A defining attribute of America s system of government is the participation of the citizens in decisions. Unlike many countries in the world today, one dictator does not decide the path for the whole nation. People from ordinary backgrounds have the opportunity to have an affect on laws passed in our country. While voting is the more common form of exhibiting this privilege of participation, citizens also have the ability to run for offices in our government. The structure of our government is unique in that there are numerous offices to be held within our government which are relatively equal in power. The president must also enforce the laws set by congress, but the president also has the power to veto bills that come to him from the Senate for approval. In Article Two, Section One of the Constitution, there is a list of the qualifications to become president. To become president, one must be a natural born citizen, thirty five years of age, and be a resident in the United States for at least fourteen years. These qualifications are fairly inclusive, which means that the majority of the American population who are over thirty five years old poses the necessary qualifications to become president. The Legislative Branch The second branch of government is the Legislative Branch. While the structure of this branch is split into two parts, the two sections balance each other with their functions. The qualifications to be elected into this office are different for the respective sections. At the federal level, this branch is structured as a bicameral legislature. The two houses of congress, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, operate jointly to pass laws while providing accurate representation of the American population. The House of Representatives contains 435 members, while the Senate possesses only 100 senators. These uneven amounts are due to the fact that the House of Representative s number of
  • 6. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Simone De Beauvoir, and Virginia... Many philosophers have argued that freedom should be applied to men in society. They argue that men should have both physical freedom and the liberty to express themselves. However, not many philosophers take into account the freedom and equality that women should have by nature. In the women s case, equality is a necessary condition of freedom. In the works by women philosophers Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Simone De Beauvoir, and Virginia Woolf, an analysis on their works shows that these authors believe equality is absolutely a necessary condition of freedom for women. Due to the presence of and dependence on men, women are deprived from using their freedom to expand their knowledge, reason and their social standing. Thus, women don t... Gilman also says, her confinement to the four walls of the house, have done great execution of course, in limiting her ideas, her information, her thought processes, and power of judgment (Gilman 66). This confinement of women into the position of housewife is a way in which men deprive women of using their freedom to achieve the greatest potential they can. Women might be free physically but they are not free mentally. After women submit into marriage, they are enclosed and put into bubbles in which they are not allowed to think anything that men do not approve of that might be a disadvantage to them. Women owe everything they have to men and in return women are forced to pay the men back through domestic labor, enslaving themselves to male dominance. Men deprive women from the freedom to decide and they direct all the domestic activities women perform. Because of this system, the unequal distribution of power has not allowed women to have power over themselves and instead are enslaved in a cage and not free to exercise and expand their knowledge and reason. In addition to Gilman s argument about marriage inequality she also goes on to say that women should change their cultural identities and take control of themselves by

These female nurses provided medical help for the wounded soldiers at Gallipoli and also on the Western Front. As most of the hospital stations were near the front line many nurses were exposed to aerial bombs and shelling. They were expected to work in primitive conditions; some hospitals were equipped for a mere 520 people yet held 2500 during the wartime. As a result of the long hours and poor conditions many nurses suffered serious illnesses. A total of 2139 Australian nurses served overseas and of these 25 died. Through enduring such adverse conditions nurses proved extreme dedication towards the war effort and their country. As nurses were the only women allowed to directly contribute to the war effort, the women who couldnВЎВ¦t serve sought to boost morale, raise money and provide comfort for soldiers, especially those who were sick or wounded. A particularly popular attempt to assist the soldiers was that through knitting. Some 600,000 socks were knitted for the troops from NSW alone. Diagon Alley is accessible from Muggle (people who doesn t have magic) London through the Leaky Cauldron, which is on Charing Cross Road, set between a bookshop and a record shop. The Muggles who pass by the inn seem to be quite unconscious of its existence. Knockturn Alley, a dark artefacts area, is an offshoot of Diagon Alley, as are the areas of Horizont Alley and Carkitt Market. The entrance is behind the Leaky Cauldron in a small, walled courtyard with a dustbin. Diagon Alley can be accessed by tapping the correct brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron (from the trash can, three up and two across). The wall goes in a small hole first but forms a large archway. It can also be accessed by Floo powder and Apparition. There may be other entrances as well. Inside the Alley is an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sites; some even have tables out front with coloured umbrellas. Particularly during the days or weeks before school starts at Hogwarts, the location is packed with witches and wizards, though shops are open year round as witches and wizards travel to the location for various goods. • 9. Why The Allies Were Victorious At The End Of World War II Why the Allies were victorious at the end of World War 2 The crushing defeat and ultimate failure of the Axis Powers was caused by significant events that had a great impact on the war. The Allies were victorious in 1945 due to the sheer military power of the United States, the infamous Soviet Transformation and the Battle of Moscow , the crushing fall of Japan and the vast resource differences between the Axis Powers and the Allies. These major events that took place during World War 2 helped shape the victorious outcome for the Allies, by not only weakening the German s military force, but also its confidence. The sheer military power of the United States, and their appearance in the war, both had a major impact on the outcome of the war, striking fear into the opposing military forces. America was and has always been a very wealthy and large economy with an abundant supply of resources. This gave America the ability to mass produce war machines such as planes and tanks to give them a large advantage over the Axis Powers. The US had an over supply of war vehicles, which were later shared with Britain and France, providing a huge advantage over the Axis Powers. According to Historynotes, over 10 million American soldiers were ready to be deployed to help fight against the Axis Powers . This statement clearly proves just how much military power America had over their opponents put together. German and Italian spies were reporting back to their country about the dramatic
  • 10. How Immigrants Have Been Treated Over The History Of Canada Throughout this course, the focus has been on how Immigrants have been treated over the history of Canada and the phases in which events and settlements began. Abu Laban states Substantive citizenship involves pressing issues relating to equality of rights and opportunities; treatment and life condition; and, not least, participatory involvement that ought to come from holding formal citizenship...In short, being a citizen is no guarantee of equality; real equality is hampered by inequalities resulting from membership in stigmatized and minoritized groups. Within this paper I will discuss how this quote relates and argues the four phases of Canadian Immigration that were taught within this course. Phase One of Canadian Immigration, pre 1901, included high British and French populations, Jewish, Polish and German Mennonite settlements, High Asian concentration on the west coast and the Immigration Act of 1896, which focused on country of origin of Immigrants until 1962. In comparison to Abu Laban s quote above, this phase of immigration started the stepping stones to allowing citizenship to those of other origins than just British and French. This phase helped improve the life of immigrants during this time of history, because there was little discrimination on who could become a Canadian citizen. 1896 1914, prairie settlement, was a time period of revisions on the Immigration act, this revision allowed for denial of entry to any Immigrant belonging to any race deemed

While I focused and put on my glasses which I have to have off unless I risk breaking them. I saw him. Darius a class mate and friend that I don t associate with at all after school was there. When he was dared jump I knew that he was going to jump; he never liked being called a chicken and would do most dares. As he wound up for the leap, one thoughtwas running through my mindhe was going to die or break a leg. Even though this was serious everyone was smiling and some were laughing even me. At that time I just thought that if he was to jump he would make it but I tried to stop him anyway. • 12. History of Land Grant Institutions Before 1862, higher education was a privilege for the wealthy and elite members of society. These habits were inherited from the European class system and designed society in an aristocratic way where nobility was viewed more importantly than value and worth. A college education was generally available if you were wealthy, white, and male. Many of the subjects that were available were things such as Latin, literature, law, or the classics, usually held at a private school. Education of the working class was left to guilds and unions, where tradesmen instructed apprentices, their knowledge base with a learn on the job mentality. In the United States throughout the 19th century, the entire education system was at a grass roots level and certainly informal and independent. The idea of education for all people was revolutionary. There was nothing else like it in the world. At the beginning of the industrial revolution and the massive migration into the western United States, the land grant universities represented a radical idea: public education is fundamental to the nation s economic development. Land grant universities stem from the Morill Land Grand Acts that were adopted throughout the 1800 s. The Morrill Act of 1862 was also known as the Land Grant College Act. It was a major boost to higher education in America. The grant was originally set up to establish institutions in each state in America. These school would educate people in agriculture, home economics,

  • 14. Al 1050 English Essay In AL 1050 Languages in the Pacific I have learned many different concepts that has to do with the Pacific Rim. It all has to do with languages and how each island or country speaks their own tongue, but all are similar in some way. In class I have examined historical and contemporary language use throughout the Pacific Basin, as well as in Hawai`i. Through exploring topics such as the effects of language contact, pidgins and creoles, and stories of language loss and preservation, and different cultures. The first concept I am going to talk about is language borrowing. Language borrowing is basically when you loan a word that is imported into a certain language called loan form. These forms now function in the grammatical processes, with nouns taking plural or possessive forms of the new language receiving native morphemes. An example would be the English word alligator. Alligator came from the Spanish which is el largato. El largato in Spanish means lizard. Loanshift another process that occurs also known as calque is when adapting native words to the new meanings. The verb bad mouth . . . is a calque or loan translation: it seems to come from Vai day ngatmay (a curse; literally, a bad mouth ). The second concept I am going to talk about is language endangerment. Language endangerment is basically when the language is at risk of becoming extinct in the near future. Every language face a different level of threat. There are many different levels of endangerment which

This book is the authors, Jon Krakauer, version of Chris McCandless story put together through interviewing and speaking with people who knew Chris as well as by using letters Chris wrote to his loved ones. Chris McCandless wrote this note on a torn page from a novel by Nikolay Gogol and it was found taped to his bus door. The note stated that he was injured and was in need of help. He stated that he was near death and practically too weak to hike to safety and was alone. In the note, he sounded very desperate and panicked. He seemed helpless, courageous and at the same time regretful. He seemed helpless because he stated that he was injured and in need of help. He seemed courageous because
  • 16. Representations of Native Americans in Dances with Wolves... Film is more than the instrument of a representation; it is also the object of representation. It is not a reflection or a refraction of the real ; instead, it is like a photograph of the mirrored reflection of a painted image. (Kilpatrick) Although films have found a place in society for about a century, the labels they possess, such as stereotypes which Natives American are recognized for, have their roots from many centuries ago (Kilpatrick). The Searchers, a movie directed by John Fordand starred by John Wayne, tells the story of a veteran of the American Civil War and how after his return home he would go after the maligned Indians who killed his family and kidnapped his younger niece. These harmful images of how the Indian Americans were depicted, were subliminally created by him in many of his previous films where they were repeatedly stereotyped under the maligned appearance of bloodthirsty savages and hardly ever illustrated by their alter ego the noble savages. These descriptions and especially the denigrated bloodthirsty savage illustrations of the Indians remain seen as purely animals into the eyes of non native populations, which caused racial discrimination against them at that epoch. Therefore, John Ford tried to redeem himself by making the film The Searchers, where he tried to expose the nefarious causes of resentment and racism that at that time the general population had for the Indians. This way of apology is likely to be strong supported by the image of the film s hero. The depiction of the hero stresses the despicable habits of the westerners such as the tendency of the prejudices towards others. As shown by the arrival of the John Wayne character to his brother s house and how he looked at Martin who is half blood Indian. Similarly, Dances with Wolves represented an explicit apology to the indigenous people. However, although it was made by a white person point of view, it emphasizes Indians points of view. This is implicitly represented as the hero who is a white soldier from the American Civil War transformed himself into a real Indian of the Lakota Sioux tribe. Although both films symbolize intentions of apology to the

  • 19. Social Media And Low Self-Esteem In The Media Currently, there is a significant amount of individuals with low self esteem in the world. Each day this number increases because of the discouragement of being unique. Doctor Joe Rubino recently stated that 85% of the world s population is affected by low self esteem. In recent times, the media, Adobe Photoshop, and professional modeling have become prevalent in lives. These sources of negativity are the significant causes of this growing problem of low self esteem. Media includes distinct parts such as social media, magazines, the internet, and television. Although the platforms are different, all are similar because of the advertisement of flawless qualities. These promotions sabotage any courage to be a unique individual. The media is becoming increasingly prevalent in the lives of people. People depend on it to identify what appearances are superior. Instead of identifying perks, the media is averting their attention to a persons flaws. This is sending a negative message to those who are dependent on the media s information. It is conveying that flaws are unnatural. Yet, it will also state that everyone should feel confident. Media sources should have no role in how one lives. The media expressing that people aren t suitable enough is spreading hatred among others. This hatred is leading to the growth of low self esteem. Despite the media s beliefs, individuals are unique and thus beautiful despite their flaws. All magazine covers likely have a

During the war, many pushed hard for a rise in industry, leading to an explosive industrial revolution far beyond what people had expected. America s business and economy had boomed, and, as the new century approached, many had a new outlook on life. New forms of music such as ragtime and the cakewalk were all the rage, and some people, such as Rudolph Wulitzer, knew how to take advantage of America s new taste for music. Wulitzer was a German immigrant who found moderate success in importing musical instruments from his home country. In the 1890 s, however, he changed his focus to musical machines. He invented the first coin operated electric organ, and soon after, self playing harps and pianos. He sold them to hotels and restaurants that could not afford live musicians and he made quite a lot of money. When he turned his company over to his sons, they developed a pipe organ that filled movie theaters with sound. They would later develop the jukebox and make a fortune in the 1930 s, after the Gilded Age was over. But it was during this era that the Wurlitzer Company got its start.5 Although music, movies and shows were very prominent and quite marketable, some Americans had a taste for more adventurous recreation. This excess is a result of a malfunction of the thyroid gland as indicated by the picture below. There are many different symptoms of hyperthyroidism, some of the most common being major weight loss despite having a insatiable appetite, anxiety, heat intolerance, fatigue, weakness, hyperactivity, irritability, apathy, depression, and sweating. In addition, many experience shortness of breath, loss of balance, nausea, vomiting, osteoporosis, and diarrhea. However, those who undergo hyperthyroidism later in life may not experience most of these symptoms at all and instead only feel constantly fatigued and considerable weight loss. Nonetheless, neurological symptoms may occur in addition to the physical manifestations. These neurological symptoms include tremor, chorea (ticks), myopathy (muscle weakness), and temporary but periodic paralysis. There are a variety of ways to treat hyperthyroidism, depending on the age of the patient, the size of their thyroid gland, and their general health. The most common treatments include beta blockers, which do not actually cure hyperthyroidism but mask some of the symptoms such as tremors, anxiety and so on. This, however, is not advised for those with heart or lung problems. Another possible treatment for this disease is radioactive iodine, or RAI. Western painted turtles are Colorado s state turtle. How did that come about? Well in 2007 Jay Baichis 4th grade class came together because they wanted these colorful turtles to be our state turtles. Why? Because these beautiful turtles are found by many lakes, ponds, and water bays around Colorado. They have bright beautiful colors just like Colorado. The Western Painted Turtlebecame our state turtle a year later after the 4th graders went through all the legal ways and the process to make it happen. The 4th graders had gone to governor Ritter on March 18, 2008 and told him why the turtles should be our state turtle, and Ritter had signed the HB 08 1017. Now let s get into more detail about our state reptile. The Western Painted Turtle is the largest of four species of turtles. They can grow up to about 8 inches and the males are generally smaller than the females. Their shells are nice and smooth and are about 250mm long. They are called painted turtles because their lower shell is a bright red with yellow and olive green colored designs spread through their shells. They have yellow lines on each side of their neck that are about the same size that go all the way to their head. They are cold blooded animals so they cannot control their body temperature. They have to go under the mud or sand to keep themselves warm. Western Painted Turtles are aquatic reptiles so

To this day you can see the lasting effects of colonialism in Haiti especially in comparison to the Dominican Republic which shares the same island. While Haiti, formerly Saint Domingue under French control, was at one time the world s wealthiest sugar and coffee producer, the tides have changed in terms of Haitis economy and it is now one of the worst off in terms of measurement of GDP per capita and income inequality. This change largely took place after the Haitian revolution, which transformed Haiti s economy to a rural subsistence economy, instead of the capital intensive plantation economy it had been. As other states, including neighboring DR, developed competitive commodity industries, Haiti never jumped on that export led growth path and there was overall less investment making its way to Haiti in comparison to other states in the region. Also, Haiti was not a part of the Golden Age period of Latin America from 1950 1973. With a brief understanding of Haiti s background, a more solid understanding of their economic performance, challenges, assets and current conditions can be developed further. However, before diving deeper into Haiti s current economic plight, it is necessary to first comprehend how economic well being is derived. It has a huge advantage over the barcode technology, some of which are additional information storage capacity, a line of sight detection is not required and so on. Barcodes also have the disadvantage of being harder to detect during broad sunlight or some other factors like being smudged or when printed on certain substrates. (R.Want, 2006). Hence, RFID is used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a consequence, passive RFID tags are used for far field emissions. Here we concentrate on solar powered UHF RFID tags which mainly help reader independent operations like sensing, data logging, computation and other functions. One method of powering passive tag by solar energy is by giving it as a supplementary power source because it otherwise displays poor read ranges and cannot run its own circuitry. Hence necessary DC power is derived from the panels and converted to the frequency usable by the tag. This new signal is forwarded to the tag antenna which when combined with the reader signal would increase the read range. (Ferdous, Reza, Siddiqui, 2016) Few other designs for solar powered UHF RFID mentioned in the conference paper (Sample et al., 2011) are: RFID IC antennas have solar cells(powerfilim SP3 37) incorporated on it will be a low cost reduced size structure. However, they are not continually available and hence this design can only demonstrate the RF antennas performance with no information about the effects of supply of a large amount of power to a tag. The second design rectifies this drawback by using Intel Lab s open source WISP 4.1 Platform. Unlike the first design, this one can expose the unregulated power supply pin so to augment the tag s power source. However, the read range is considerably small and because of the variation in the input impedance, it will require a different antenna design. There are many evolving designs about expanding

Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers whereby there would a legislative body which has the ultimate power of making laws, he believed that the legislative authority should be given such power, because the members of such legislative authority are elected by the people who will be the guardian of the natural laws that he holds dear and as his first and foremost priority. John Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers, but rather than the tri partite system as we know today, he believed in a bi partite system of governance that included just the executive and the legislature, the legislature being in this case the law making body, whereas the executive would be the king on the monarchy who could exercise judicial powers. While the themes in several of the stories compliment the other, one element of craft and its effect that is most prominent is the dialogue. In the story A Drive Through the Country the nameless protagonist sneaks out of the house to meet her troubled lover Fred. As they drive through the country, Fred s impulsive behavior amplifies and both their lives are suddenly at risk. In The Basement Room a young boyleft home with the house keepers for a weekend also leaves his house without supervision. When he returns he witnesses a violent, haunting event. It is obvious through the summary that both stories hold suspense. However, it is Greene s construction of dialoguewhere the suspense forms and heightens. The narration that takes place before or in between the moments of dialogue show us that the characters do not say what they mean, therefore their fates and the stories future goings on hold mystery. If they do not discuss their fears, desires, curiosities, will they ever get what they want? Will they escape possible danger? These are the questions readers ponder during the crucial moments of dialogue and without these questions the stories would lack mystery and suspense. For it is through Greene s straightforward narration, coupled with dialogue, that bring readers intrigue, mystery and ultimately leads us to care about the characters and the stories endings.

The Presidential Election Elections Election In the 2000 United States Presidential election, the close pre election polls showed the election could be won by either the Republican or the Democrat Party. Both Parties had two strong candidates, with a handful of other third party candidates, including Green Party and Reform Party representatives. As I watched the results of the 2000 presidential election, I felt bad for Vice President Albert Gore, Jr. The Presidency seemed to be well within Governor George W. Bushs grasp. The television news networks were showing a big lead for Bush across the country. I turned the television off in my office, and I advised my Soldiers to get back to work. My Soldiers and I were stationed overseas in the Republic of Korea. We were thirteen hours ahead of the Eastern Time zone in the United States. We worked for the Commanding General for all United States Troops in Korea. The General often spoke about the election, but never let on which candidate got his vote. When I turned on the news at home that same evening, I was shocked to learn the presidency had not been decided. It seemed Gore rebounded across the country; however the total vote count in some states is too close to call. The 2000 Presidential election was important to me because the last time a Bush was in office, I found myself overseas as a part of a Multinational Coalition as the United States had declared war on the country of Iraq. In the year 2000, the peninsula of Korea had been in a delicate state with

A Summary Of The Language In Antony And Cleopatra This passage, taken from William Shakespeare s play Antony and Cleopatra, shows Octavius Caesar discussing with Lepidus about what they should do about Antony whom Caesar thinks at this moment in the play is currently frolicking with Cleopatra, the pharaoh of Egypt, instead of doing his duties. The passage also contains accounts from Caesar about the man Antony once was as well as his vivid opinion on Antony s current state. This essay will analyse the language, form and the tone of Caesar the passage as well as examining its significance in relation to the rest of the play. The entire passage is written in poetic form which emphasises not only the power and position within the Roman hierarchy Lepidus and Caesar are in but also that they very much act like Roman leaders. It creates an aura of pomposity around them and that they lack a certain humbleness that characters such as Enobarbus possess as, up to this point, he has spoken in prose. The poetic form also sets up that they are very much equals to Antony and Cleopatra due to them speaking in poetic form in the previous scene. This equality foreshadows the rivalry and antagonistic behaviour between Caesar and Antony due to them being similar and yet different. This pomposity is furthered when Caesar, while speaking in the third person, lays out the recent actions of Antony. The manner in which he describes these actions ( he fishes, drinks, and wastes/The lamps of night in revel ) sounds as the lyrical and flowing

  • 50. The Effects Of Living With Landmines For The Wellbeing Of... Introduction This paper will analyse Davies (2015) Ph.D. thesis Living with landmines . In this research, Davies attempts to answer the question: What are the implications of living with landmines for the wellbeing of local people? (Davies, 2015:15). This essay will therefore look into the efficiency and accuracy of the methodology by which Davies attempts to answer this question. To do this, the methodology will be firstly put in context to have a broad understanding of the research field. This paper will then assess the study s mains weaknesses and strengths through the RATS (Relevance, Appropriateness, Transparency, Soundness) qualitative researchevaluation (Clark, 2003). Finally, a series of adjustments will be suggested to counteract the methodology s potential flaws. Davies introduces her methodology outline as a complex study which draws on several different qualitative methods. This enables her to explore separate dimensions in which landmines can affect people s living conditions; adapting different data collection methods depending on context, believing flexibility to be crucial for the success of the study. For this reason, Davies considers herself a bricolage researcher, using a variety of qualitative research methods to piece together a holistic picture (Davies, 2015:113). This approach allowed her to gain an insight into the complex reality of living with landmines. The study itself consists of a qualitative research project divided into three

Meanwhile, the change of pay rates and salaries can affect the HRM as well. The third one is social factors such as different cultures of employees. For example, some fear things like a continuation of their sense perception post death allowing the possibility of being punished for all the bad actions in their lifetime. Epicurus, an ancient Greek philosopher of the Hellenistic period of 323 31 BCE, believed that deathis the end of our existence and thus argued that the act of fearing death is irrational (Letter to Menoeceus, 10.124 125). The Epicurean argument I will discuss in this paper is in support of him claiming the fearof death is irrational is better titled as the privation of experience argument. In his own words Epicurus claimed that death is nothing to us in his Letter to Menoeceus (10.124). It is important to clarify that in the privation of experience argument Epicurus speaks on the state of being dead and not the process of death. So, for the purpose of this essay, like Epicurus, I will accept the notion that death is the end of our existence. In this essay I will present the privation of experience argument in my own words based on my interpretation of his argument. I will also explain how this Epicurean argument is valid given that one can live a happy comfortable life simply by having the right attitude about the state of being dead. Before I present my interpretation of Epicurus privation of experience argument I will state that Epicurus held a hedonistic point of view

While Yeats was born in Ireland, he spent most of his adolescent years in London with his family. It wasn t until he was a teenager that he later moved back to Ireland. He attended the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin and joined the Theosophical Society soon after moving back. He was surrounded by Irish influences most of his life, but it was his commitment to those influences and his heritage that truly affected his poetry. William Butler Yeats s poetry exemplifies how an author s Irish identity can help create and influence his work.Maud Gonne, an Irish nationalist and patriot, was a huge muse to Yeats and his poetry. Her passion for Ireland and its freedom was a large part of the reason why William Yeats was so passionate about the dealings in Ireland himself. Maud was born in England but loved Ireland and believed strongly in its independence from Britain. Although she is most known for her association with William Butler Yeats, she had many accomplishments herself. She created the Daughters of Ireland. The Daughters of Ireland was an organization which provided a home for Irish nationalist women and encouraged the study of: Gaelic, Irish literature, history, music and art. Maud also went on a crusade to improve prison conditions after she suffered a brief imprisonment herself. She even wrote a bestselling book herself called A Servant of the
