Causes of Failure in Storage Facilities and Their Supportstheijes
Storage tanks in metallic or plastic forms are meant for storing water or other liquid substances for use either in industrial or domestic applications. This work looks into where failure occurs in metallic storage tanks, how there occur and why they occur. This study was important in other to proffer solutions and recommendations to the causes of failure recorded. The area of study was in Kaduna State, Nigeria, where four storage tanks were examined. The major causes of failure recorded were failure due to corrosion, failure due to malfunction of part, failure due to wrong construction methods among others. With corrosion of parts ranking highest on failure types, it was recommended that anti- corrosive materials like aluminum or stainless steel should be used for constructing storage tanks and their supports and when using mild steel materials it should be well protected using red oxide paint or hydrophobic polyester coatings.
DESIGN OF A MODEL HAULAGE TECHNIQUE FOR WATER FLOODING CAISSON ASSEMBLY.Emeka Ngwobia
Presented in this study is the engineering solution to the movement of a 63m, 45tons Caisson from a fabrication yard to a field location in the Gulf of guinea. This was achieved by dividing the whole process into three stages; firstly by using excel sheets with relevant design formulas to design the spreader bar configuration to lift the caisson from the quayside to a crane barge conveniently, showing the necessary lifting sequence employed to complete this process, also designing the lifting accessories needed which includes pad eyes, shackles, wire rope and spreader bars according to relevant codes and standards The first spreader Is an I beam of length of 25m and section with dimension 533mm by 229mm weighing 129kg/m, the second beam and the third beam are designed similarly as an I beam of length 9m and section 533mm by 229mm weighing 129kg/m. The choice of pad eye to be welded on the spreader beam was based on the working limit of the pad eye, which was analytically designed using spread sheet, performing necessary checks to make sure it will not break off during the lifting operations. It is reinforced with cheek plates at the pin hole to reduce the stresses at the pin hole. The total pad eye used for this operation is 16. The choice of shackle attached to each of the pad eye was based on the total self weight of all the lifting materials(55tons), according to the Crosby group catalogue it is an S2130 bow shackle of Nominal size 50.8mm, Stock no 1019659 and weight 23.7002kg, also the wire rope configuration chosen to based on the safe working load limit according to the Bethlehem wire rope general purpose catalogue ASME B30.5- 1995 the wire rope has nominal strength of 53.1tons, sling class 19x7 IWRC(Purple or extra improved ploy (EIP Steel).
. Secondly, by providing solutions to sea fastening for the caisson on the deck of the crane barge, which was modeled using STAADPRO, which involved support designs and loss of support designs, so as to accommodate for the hydrodynamic effect while the caisson is being transported by the crane barge, having in mind that the crane barge chosen will adequately accommodate the caisson because of the deck space required to fit the 63m long caisson, from the analysis the Caisson is supported by steel beams spaced at 10 m interval which is fastened with the aid of a clamp as seen in the detailed drawings, this caisson and beam supports are modeled with staadpro software and support reactions obtained. These supports are now spaced at 20 m intervals and analyzed to simulate a situation where there is a loss of support reaction during transportation of the caisson. A saddle clamp is to joined to a H beam for support to hold it to the deck at varying length and at the starting point a pivot made from a pad eye joined with a pin to connect the saddle clamp to allow for easy lifting of the caisson when it is at 25m to the FPSO.
9 Essential services naval architects supply for the shipbuilding industryAlexandrą Maŋafu
We have put together a list of 9 essential services naval architects contribute with, in order to highlight their critical role in constructing and maintaining a functional and safe ship.
In this you will find some of the basic thing regarding the elevated water tank and this is our one of the team project work in college. Hope you will enjoy it....
An Offshore supply vessel is a multi-task vessel and has to be designed for many different purposes. This is contrary to most other ships used worldwide. In general, the geographical location where the offshore activity takes place is an important indicator of the choice of supply vessel.
Factors like weather conditions, the amount of equipment needed and the distance from the shore are important for what properties the vessel should have. The deep-water oilfield market is becoming more important as the conventional oilfield market in shallow water cannot meet the energy requirements from the consuming market. The Offshore Supply Vessels (hereafter it is called OSVs) market is becoming booming and the demand for OSVs has never reached the extent like today in previous periods.
In this project, an offshore supply vessel will be designed according to ABS Rules.

3. ABSTRACT
An autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is a robot that travels underwater
without requiring input from an operator. AUVs constitute part of a larger group of
undersea systems known as unmanned underwater vehicles, The structure of an
autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), usually composed of a cylindrical shell,
may be exposed to high hydrostatic pressures where buckling collapse occurs
before yield stress failure. In conventional submarines, welded stiffeners increase
the buckling resistance, however, in small AUVs, they reduce the inner space and
cause residual stresses. The Aim of the project work presents an innovative concept
for the structural design of an AUV Pressure vessel, proposing the use of sliding
stiffeners that are part of the structure used to accommodate the electronics inside it.
Design of AUV pressure vessel using catia software and analysis using Ansys
software using sand wich beam material ,In this project taken total 4 cases.

4. LITERATURE REVIEW
• Arentzen and Mandel [1]. All small modern submarines and submersibles,
also the oldest ones, have a sole hull. The term pressure hull can be described
as the inner hull of a submarine, in which approximately standard pressure is
maintained when the vessel is immersed . The Hull structure, which is a very
important part of the submarine become more and more important since its
strength is the main concern. When immersed or submerged, the water
pressure on the submarine hull increases while the pressure inside stays the
same i.e., one atmospheric pressure .
• McDaniel, [2]. John R. MacKay [3] presented the paper on “Structural
Analysis and Design of Pressure Hulls: the State of the Art and Future
Trends” which explains that Pressure hulls are the central load bearing
structures of naval submarines, research submersibles and autonomous
underwater vehicles (AUVs) and commercial.
5. • Liam Gannon [3] presented a paper on “Prediction of the Effects
of Cold Bending on Submarine Pressure Hull Collapse” which
explains Submarine pressure hull frames and shell plating are shaped
by cold bending during fabrication. Cold bending introduces significant
residual stress in these components which can be detrimental to the
strength of the structure.
Frosting et al [4] in treating sandwich beams sub divided the sandwich
beam into two sub structures, one representing the shear absorption
capability of the core and the other free of shear stresses.
Swathi [5], has done a static and dynamic analysis of a sandwich structure
in FRP beams and found out the relation between the core thickness and
damping coefficient.
6. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
• Autonomous Underwater Vehicles are today a vital part of marine
geosciences. They have eliminated so many challenges to exploring the
underwater and have made a lot of difficult underwater tasks easier. They,
however, cannot operate with 100% efficiency in some areas. Some areas
prove to be more violence and overpower the AUV in the tide.
• Excellent navigational algorithms for providing accurate target location.
• It reduces operational errors and high costs associated in employing a
human operator .
• High water turbidity can hinder proper camera imaging.
• The loud acoustic geophysical sensors of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
may disturb the marine fauna in sensitive regions like Marine Protected
Areas.
7. APPLICATIONS
• For Commercial Purposes: Where oil drilling and subsea drilling companies use
the assistance of AUVs for the purpose of checking the appropriate oceanic area
to suit their business necessity.
• For Military Purposes: Where AUVs are used as a marine technology to find out
whether there are any booby-traps set in the ocean bed or floor. When it comes
to military usage, an AUV is the best scouting technology that can be used for
underwater purposes.
• For Research and Exploring Purposes: When it comes to using autonomous
underwater vehicles for the purpose of research, it means research of the
oceanic or sea floor for any loss to the underwater ecosystem. Additionally,
AUVs can also be used to track reefs and other life-forms that exist underwater.
• For Extra-Curricular Interests: In this context, it has to be noted that an AUV is
easy to build if the right scientific and engineering equipments are used. And if
an indigenous AUV is built by any person who is enthusiastic, then it could lead
to the person being famous, even at a very small level.
8. PRESSURE VESSEL
• Pressure hulls are the main load bearing structures of naval submarines, and
autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). A pressure hull is a structure that is
designed to withstand the compressive forces associated with hydrostatic
pressure.
• The most efficient geometries for resisting these compressive forces are
circular cross-sections, and thus, pressure hulls are typically composed of a
combination of ring-stiffened cylinders and cones, with spherical or
torispherical domes at either end.
• . The pressure hull has been calculated and designed under the ASME rules,
and Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations have been performed.
• The pressure hull is composed of a stainless steel body with two acrylic
spherical sectors; The steel has been specially selected due to its excellent
mechanical properties and its high corrosion resistance.
9. SANDWICH BEAM CONCEPT
• Sandwich theory describes the behavior of a beam, plate, or shell which
consists of three layers—two face sheets and one core.
• The most commonly used sandwich theory is linear and is an extension of
first order beam theory.
• Linear sandwich theory is of importance for the design and analysis
of sandwich panels, which are of use in building construction, vehicle
construction, airplane construction and refrigeration engineering.

11. PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
• Improper material leads to the failure, The aim of the project undertaken
was to do the design and material optimization with different
materials(sand which beam) of the cylindrical section of a submarine
pressure hull using finite element analysis and strengthen it accordingly
using non corrosion material.
• This pressure hull is subjected to a hydrostatic pressure of 65Bar due to the
difference between outside and inside pressure.
• So initially a structural static analysis was done to check the deflections and
stresses.
• As the pressure hull is subjected to huge dynamic loads, we have analyzed
the pressure hull for vibrations and shock loads. The pressure hull operates
in the frequency range of 0-300Hz.
12. METHODOLOGY
• Design of pressure hull done using CATIA & CAD software. Design of
pressure hull completed based on ISO standard drawing sheet.
• These stresses are calculated for Four different materials of pressure hulls
.
• Pressure hull design imported in Ansys software for analysis purpose.
Structural analysis of hull done for and different material types (steel,
Ti6al4v).
• Perform the static and modal analysis
• Consider the 65 bar applied the external because of this is the hydro static
pressure.
• From these results, concluded the suitable pressure hull proposed under
radial pressure conditions with 4 materials.
