3. What Is Descriptive Texts?
Descriptive text is a text that describes some
thing like a person, animal or object in terms
of shape, characteristics, quantity and so on.

4. Structure of Descriptive Texts
The structure of descriptive text divided into 2 parts, they are:
• Identification
Identification is an introduction or general description of the object or topic to be discussed.
Example:
My best friend is Randy. He is my classmate.
• Description
Description is a part that explains in detail about the object that has been introduced in the identification section.
This explanation can be in the form of characteristics, appearance, number, properties, and so on.
Example:
Randy and I go to school together every day. We sit next to each other. Randy is very diligent. He is really good
at Math. Sometimes he teaches me too. He also likes to play football. Every Wednesday and Friday, we practice
football together. I am glad to have a friend like Randy.

5. Descriptive Text Elements
Descriptive text has several elements that become its characteristics, including:
• Noun
In descriptive text, it is a specific noun.
Example: my cat, the National Monument, my sister, and so on.
• Adjective
It is usually used to describe nouns, such as the red book, a beautiful flower, and others.
• Simple present tense
It uses the verb of the first form (verb 1) to describe the object.
Example: My room has 1 bed, my sister is very pretty, and others.
• Figurative language
It uses figurative language such as metaphors to illustrate something, usually the nature of an object.
Example: Snow White's hair is as black as ebony, skin as white as snow.
• Just focus one object

8. An Example of Descriptive Texts
I have a lot of friends in my school, but Dinda has been my best friend since junior high school. We don’t study in the
same class, but we meet at school everyday during recess and after school. I first met her at junior high school orienta
tion and we’ve been friends ever since.
Dinda is good-looking. She’s not too tall, with fair skin and wavy black hair that she often puts in a ponytail. At scho
ol, she wears the uniform. Other than that, she likes to wear jeans, casual t-shirts and sneakers. Her favourite t-shirts a
re those in bright colors like pink, light green and orange. She is always cheerful. She is also very friendly and likes t
o make friends with anyone. Like many other girls, she is also talkative. She likes to share her thoughts and feelings t
o her friends. I think that’s why many friends enjoy her company. However, she can be a bit childish sometimes. For
example, when she doesn’t get what she wants, she acts like a child and stamps her feet.
Dinda loves drawing, especially the manga characters. She always has a sketchbook with her everywhere she go
es. She would spend some time to draw the manga characters from her imagination. Her sketches are amazingly great
. I’m really glad to have a best friend like Dinda
