My Statement of Purpose for a Course on Networks and IP...
Statement of Purpose Introduction From an early age I learned to look at challenges not as
insurmountable problems, but as opportunities for continual growth, personal discovery, and
ultimately achievement. This mindset of translating challenges pervades my academic career to this
point, and in pursuing a Masters of Science degree I hope to challenge myself to the next level of
academic and professional achievement. Networks and IP Security The innate strengths I have include
the ability to create, critique and analyze algorithms for optimal performance, in addition to router
ripping, protocol analysis and understanding of and interest in data structures and data models. I have
excelled in the areas of electric circuitry design and components, and have also discovered an innate
ability to troubleshoot problems from a systemic, highly focused standpoint. This ability to view entire
networks and the Internet from a very detailed, systemic standpoint has also helped me to excel in
related studies of programming, data structures and algorithm development. The study of security has
been based on the insights gained from viewing the many functional areas of networks through the
perspective of fault tolerance, authentication, advanced connectivity and the development of data
structures that enable communication and collaboration (Adams, 1986). My passion is in the area of
computer networks and security, which is an area I will continually strive to excel in, relying on

Nonverbal Consequences In The Film Victor Victoria
Communication without Words
Human communication is a process that it is full of tools and stages. One important tool that is widely
use on communication is the non verbal cues, which help the speakers and the receptors to express
without using words. There are many types of nonverbal messages; for example, the body, the face,
the eyes, spaces, artifacts, touch, paralanguage, silence, and time. A great variety of these cues are
used during the movie Victor Victoria , in which a women pretends to be a man, and with the help of
her friend and many nonverbal messages, she achieve her goal.
The first clear example of nonverbal cues is the vestment, which we can appreciate during the scene
where Victoria is at Carroll Todd place, and she use Richard s cloths. In the course of the scene,
Victoria was with his friend, and they were dreaming about becoming sensational stars at Paris, so
they can be rich and happy. At this moment, Richard went back to Toddy s place to pick up his staffs,
but as soon as they heard somebody approaching, Victoria hides in the closet already dress like a man.
When Richard finds her, he doesn t have a doubt that she is a man, just because of what she is
wearing. This is a perfect example of a nonverbal cue, where the cloths send a message to Richard
making him think that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time that we see Victoria in the movie is in an audition at a very famous place; however, the
manager of this place did not seem to appreciate Victoria s talent, so to demonstrate that her irritation
and frustration, she sings in a very high note that makes the glass of wine to brake. Also, during
another audition, Victoria pops a champagne bottle just with her voice. In many other occasion, glass
is broken while Victoria is singing; this is used to send a messages that says that Victoria is a very
talent singer, and everybody can see this when she brakes any

My Personal Short-Term Academic Goals
My primary short term academic goal is to earn my Associate of Applied Science degree in Business
Administration with a concentration in Event and Meeting Planning before the end of 2016. My short
term plan includes reducing and eliminating the academic tuition cost from out of my pocket by
obtaining scholarships, grants and tuition assistance from my employer and sponsors. Further, I plan
to reduce the time required to obtain the degree, to quickly have the necessary skills and education to
jump start my own business as a Special Events Planner in 2017.
My primary long term academic goal is to earn a Bachelors of Science in Communications in 2 years.
All of my academic goals correlates s with my overall short and long term career goals, which
includes enhancing my current 27 years of experience as a Human Resources Manager to continue to
learn over the next decade to contribute to the strategic mission and goals of the agency for which I
am employed. Building my knowledge regularly to build my academic portfolio for consideration for
a senior executive service position in the government. I believe by having further my academic
knowledge with obtaining a B.S. degree, in Communications would nicely compliment, be more
competitive among other HR professionals, and balance the number years of HR experience I possess
to contribute to resolving today s and future HR economic and U.S. governmental hiring challenges.

What I Would Never Have Believed That Concepts From Economics
Prior to writing this, I would never have believed that concepts from economics would have fit into
my decisions in course selections. But, now looking at the individual concepts and what they really
entail, it makes perfect sense.
As a sophomore picking out classes, I had free choice whether to enter the CP course, the Honors
course or the AP course. The only reason why I was able to choose between these three courses was
because of my grades. This is similar to the concept of barriers to entry in economics; the students are
the new firms, the courses are the industries, and the different grades are the actual barrier into the
courses. During sophomore year, I maintained an average grade in the honors history course of higher
than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, some of the benefits included more credit, a more interesting topic, and learning more.
On the other hand, the costs included more time dedicated, a harder course, and the AP test. These
costs were of a lesser importance than the benefits were, plus, the AP test could be beneficial. By
using this concept, I determined that taking the AP course did benefit me more in the long run than
taking the honors course. One of the major benefits that I looked at was whether taking this course
would help benefit me in the long run. I used the concept of human capital , thinking that with this
course and my other collective knowledge that I would gather from other classes, I was preparing
myself to be a well rounded student and so possibly more successful in the future. In taking the AP
course, I would learn a slightly different topic than the Honors or CP classes, and at a higher level of
difficulty. I would definitely learn the topic and broaden my knowledge, but I would also learn more
skills, like managing time wisely and different studying skills for a harder course. On the other hand,
the costs of taking the AP course was like the concept of opportunity cost , the things I had to give up
in order to take the course. For one, I would have to give up taking an easier course, and perhaps a
better grade, if I opted to take the AP course. I would also have to give up more of my time to prepare
for the course, hence eliminating

Lowering The Freezing Point Of Water

Honors Chemistry
Background Research
The topic is Chemistry of Making Ice Cream: Lowering the Freezing Point of Water. In this
experiment the scientist will be researching how to lower the freezing point of water using salt and/or
sugar. The Independent Variable in this experiment is the solutes that the scientist uses which are,
chemicals that dissolve in liquids. The Dependent Variable is the temperature/freezing points of the
substances(°C). A constant is this experiment would be the use of salt and sugar and the control would
be the pure water because it is important for determining the freezing point of the water in the
experiment.

The salt content lowers the oceans freezing point so that conditions have to be a lot colder to make it
freezes. (David Bradley, 2009). To understand all of this, you first need to understand the freezing
point of water. Water freezes at 0(°C) or 32(°F). However, adding salt or sugar or a substance as those
listed, could change the freezing point of water.
The freezing point of ocean water is 28.4 (°F) this is due to the amount of salt found in the ocean, at
least 10 percent of the oceans water freezes and becomes ice, but the only part that freezes is the
actual water itself while everything underneath is salt water. The polar ice caps are made out of fresh
water, up to 15 percent of the oceans water is always frozen. In the ocean there is around 35 grams of
salt for every 1000 units of water.
When adding sugar to pure water it also lowers the freezing point of water because it becomes a
mixture. If sugar is sprinkled on ice it mixes with the warmest layer of water creating a sugar water
mix that pushes all the remaining sugar water underneath the ice layer making it freeze. The
movement of pure water molecules slow down through the sugar water

Gladiator True Hero
Response Paper 2: Maximus Meridius, a True Hero in Gladiator
The film, Gladiator, released in 2000, displays a great deal of bravery, honor, love, loyalty and
sacrifice through Maximus Meridius, a man stripped of his title, land and family, but continues to live
and fight with honor and compassion in his heart and mind. Maximus, the hero protagonist, is
introduced as an admired Roman Army General and a favorite to the Roman Emperor Marcus
Aurelius. The term hero is known to have multiple meanings, and Maximus carries almost every
quality defined in Merriam Webster s online dictionary. It defines hero as: a mythological or legendary
figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability; an illustrious warrior; a man

Commodus decides the best way to ensure he rises and Maximus falls with the people is to battle him
in the gladiator arena. Commodus, knowing that Maximus is a more skilled fighter comes up with a
plan to give himself the advantage. He enters the chamber where Maximus is imprisoned, he tells him
of the upcoming battle arranged between the two and his plan to humiliate and kill Maximus so that he
will be liked by the people instead. Commodus tries to portray himself as unafraid of Maximus, but he
can see through his exterior to the insecure man he has always been. Maximus responds to Commodus
saying, I think you ve been afraid you re whole life. Commodus carries through with his plan and
stabs Maximus in his side and conceals the wound. It may seem like a minuscule quote from the
movie, but it proves the deceitful traits displayed by an evil being. Evil, in any form, stops at nothing
to take what it wants. While a true hero, encompassed with purity, would never harm an innocent

New Zealand
The country that i m researching is New Zealand. New Zealand is located in the south western Pacific
Ocean and features two main islands, the North Island and the South Island. The language spoken the
most often there is English. The capital of New Zealand is Wellington. There are many differences and
similarities between the US and New Zealand. One thing that is different between the two is that the
people in New Zealand drive on the left side. There are also differences and similarities in the
schooling. According to New Zealand Now, there are four school terms running from late January to
mid December with two week breaks between them and a six week summer break at the end of the

According to Roy Morgan Research, one problem I researched that came up in New Zealand was
poverty and the gap between the rich and poor. This can happen a lot all over the world. This could be
happening for many reasons but the main reason it stated was that people are losing their jobs and don
t have any income then have no choice but to leave their home, so then they end up living on the
streets. The people there are trying to help it but it s becoming hard to so they can t really do anything
about it. Some people have family they can go live with until they can find another job but some don t
and have to do it all on their own.
Teens have different rules and laws all over the world. According to New Zealand Now, most children
in New Zealand start school on their 5th birthday and all children must be enrolled at school from
their 6th birthday. Another thing that could be different is the technology. In New Zealand, their
technology is not different than here. They have modern TVs, phones, etc. Something that is also the
same is the laws on driving. According to New Zealand Now, you are able to start driving when you
are 16 just like you can in

elitism (Lui 2000, 141). Chronologically speaking, the Tiananmen incident began as of April 15, 1989,
when Hu Yaobang died. For example, posters appeared at Beijing University on April 15, mourning
Hu as a fallen hero (Lin 1992, 3). Hu s death is therefore, seen as a catalyst of the student protests
since many students supported his stand against corruption and party elitism. They saw him as the
their only non corrupt and democratic official; but more importantly, their call for democracy and
freedom (Chiu 1991, 332). On April 16, 1989, many students gathered to attack the government,
which led to the following democratic demands on April 17; out of the seven stated a few will be

After the death of Zhou Enlai in 1976, major demonstrations took place in Beijing where protestors
were calling for the end to oppressive policies of the Cultural Revolution; in December 1986, student
demonstrations escalated into nation wide movements protesting the absence of democratic reforms
(Teiwes and Sun 2004, 212). In a similar sense, in 1989, Hu s death gave the demonstrators another
reason to comemorate his death and again call for democratic reforms. In addition, a number of
participants in the Democracy Wall movement of 1978 and 1976 demonstration in Tiananmen Square
were university faculty members in 1989, and many of them, most notably Feng Lizhi, played a role
in framing the issues publicly and signaling students to participate in the movement against corrupt
governments (Mason and Clements 2002, 173). Andrew Nathans (1990) argued that by 1989, what
had started as congeries of small, isolated, clandestine groups, had grown step by step through the
Tiananmen Square Incident of 1976, the Democracy Wall movement of 1978 79 etc. into a national
force in 1989, that had the participation or sympathy of almost all residents in China against the

The Primate Family Tree By Ian Redmond
Use of Metaphor in The Primate Family Tree
Although some may think of metaphor as ornamental and inapplicable for use in subjects other than
English literature, metaphors are necessary for communication in all disciplines. The use of metaphor
is crucial in the field of education because one cannot understand completely new ideas without
making a connection to previously known information (Oshlag and Petrie). Textbooks readily employ
metaphor to convey new information to students. Pages 28 29 of The Primate Family Tree by Ian
Redmond illustrates the evolution of primates through a diagram of a tree and describes how the
theory of evolution has changed since the nineteenth century. The Primate Family Tree willfully
utilizes metaphors regarding abstract complex systems and the Great Chain of Being to explain
scientific concepts to an audience that is uneducated in complex zoological and evolutionary
processes. Two main metaphor systems categorize many metaphorical expressions: the Great Chain of
Being system and the Event Structure system (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain system is based on a
vertical scale of complexity, or being, and accounts for how one conceptually analyzes metaphors that
compare two things or nouns (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain metaphor is prevalent in English
literature to describe both comparisons and differences between nouns. One can better interpret a
complex thing, such as a human, by making comparisons between the human and another noun that

Émile Durkheim And Egotistic Suicide
2. Summarize the four types of suicide in the sociological model postulated by Émile Durkheim.
Our text explains that Durkheim s sociological model gets to the center of the relationship between an
individual and the community.
Egoistic suicide When someone has little or no ties to society, Durkheim calls it, low integration or
low belongingness. These people are typically loners who will not benefit from social authority
against suicide. Altruistic/institutional suicide The opposite of Egotistic suicide is someone who has
very strong social connection and may dismiss their own personal beliefs in order to fit into the group
they are seeking approval of.

Evaluate the four definitions of suicide given in the text.
The act or an instance of taking one s own life voluntarily and intentionally, especially by a person of
years of discretion and sound mind. This first definition given in the text seems to be the most cut and
dry and one that most would identify with except it stating that suicide is typically done by an older
person. While statistically the elderly take their lives more often I feel that the most important part of
this definition is sound mind . Many people who take their own lives are not of sound mind so by this
definition they have not committed suicide?
Self killing deriving from one s inability or refusal to accept the terms of the human condition. This is
a very powerful definition that I feel gives the blame to society when someone commits suicide. If
someone does not have strong social ties then it seems that this definition would not apply to them.
All behavior that seeks and finds the solution to an existential problem by making an attempt on the
life of the subject. This definition not only calls the act of actually ending one s own life as suicide but
an attempt as well. By this definition someone who has an unsuccessful suicide attempt has still
committed suicide. I find it to be too broad of a definition and leaves to much open for

Why Can Hipsters Be Considered A Counterculture
Hipsterism has become an extremely popular counterculture in society. According to Zev Borow, the
hipster culture primarily focuses on individuality , uniqueness , and free thinking (Borow). Hipsters
have also been known to have a passion for music, food, social life, and style. Although hipsters are
often misunderstood to some people in society, they love what they do and have fun while doing it
which is what matters the most. The hipster counterculture has had a huge impact on society by
providing a platform for people to express themselves.

The fact that the hipster counterculture was created for those who don t fit in or feel they don t acquire
a sense of belonging in a typical mainstream culture says something in itself (Mckenzie). One big
reason as to why hipsters has since become popular is because they provide a safe haven for those
who are fond of individuality and for those who don t affiliate with the mainstream crowd. Giving
them freedom to freely express themselves without societal pressures on them. Due to the hipsters
reject to traditional society, many critics have now attached negative connotations to the word.
Making anybody who claims to be a hipster looked down upon. Since then society has viewed hipsters
as arrogant, [demanding] and direct people that nobody like to associate with (Mckenzie). Along with
that hipsters are also viewed as people who give off the vibe that they just don t care (Fletcher).
Although, critics give hipsters many negative feedback, when you get to know a real hipster and not
some poser, they are actually down to earth, expressive people (Mckenzie). The hipsters way of life is
different from the norm making it more comfortable to people. Not always trying to fit in and trying to

Impact Of Etfs Trading On Underlying Securities
Because price changes in ETFs directly reflect market information and alter investors behaviours and
asset allocation, the underlying security liquidity and volatility should be scrutinized. The third main
strand of academic literature has revealed that the potential impacts of ETFs trading on underlying
securities, and the markets as a whole, is of substantial interest to both investment professionals and
financial academics. There is an extensive amount of research that emphasises the effects on liquidity,
volatility and valuation. In fact, ETFs impact on the quality of underlying securities is not an
unexplored area to theoretical or empirical academics. Existing studies have examined the effects of
ETFs introduction on their underlying indices or composite securities. Subrahmanyam (1991) and
Gorton et al. (1993) established theoretical models to test basket securities , including index linked
securities or index futures contracts (Charupat and Miu, 2013). The models predicted liquidity
migration to component securities and indicated that the level of diversification of a composite
security is positively correlated with its appeal to liquidity traders. The analysis was based on the idea
that component stocks were diversified (with no firm risk), and the liquidity traders, thus, expected
lower losses to informed traders by trading in composite securities rather than in underlying individual
securities. Due to lower transaction costs, basket securities were more

International Trade Is An Effective Stimulation Of...
Engaging in international trade is an effective stimulation of economic growth. David Ricardo s
principle of comparative advantage argues while nations involved in international trade, a country will
become specialised in producing a product that has the lowest relative costs. (Economist, 2015) By
focusing on the production onto a limited scope of product or industries, firms or the nation will
experience rise in productivity due to higher efficiency in allocation and utilisation of resources. As
the process of specialisation will cause reallocation of other less efficient resources, nations, as a
result, will import products that are less efficiently produced from other countries. While different
nations specialising in different goods and services, a greater variety and cheaper products will
become available for consumption, improving the quality and quantity of consumption by all nations.
To determine whether developing nations are experiencing disadvantage in the international trade, it
requires a careful examination with Porter s Diamond factor endowments. It analysis a nation s
competitiveness under four categories: factor endowments, demand condition, related and supporting
industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry.
Factor endowments meaning the availability of resources and skills, which can further categorise into
basic and advanced factor. To fully utilise the potentials within a nation (Basic factor), it requires
policy set by different parties such

Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society
Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of
scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era
in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism
has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an
increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their
breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a
fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s
elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the
upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left
violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled
as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much
of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful
population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that
undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by
violence, understanding it to be an ordinary occurrence and often the solution to a problem.

What Is The 1988 Reform Act To Present
There s little disbelief that education, as a social institution, has an important role to play in our
society (Moore, Aiken, Chapman, 2005). This essay will look further into the influences of social,
economic and political changes in Britain s education over the last 30 years. The essay will mainly
review and focus on the eras between the 1988 reform Act to present. This essay will explore further
into the influences of the national curriculum, how conservatives, labour and the coalition have
affected social and economic environments in education and comparisons between the conservatives
and labour. It will also discuss, philosophers Dewey and Freire reviewing how both of their methods
of pedagogy has influenced teachers methods and approaches to teaching.
Successive conservatives in the 1980s increased the pace of improvement and reform and introduced
Market Mechanisms into the education system, in aim to force schools to increase their standards of
teaching (Ross Gibson, 2007). The real uprising in Britain s education legislation came in 1988 when
the education Reform Act was introduced, this Act is widely known to be the most important since the
1944 Butlers Act (Meredith, 1989). The Act introduced the National curriculum, so far being the most
important provision, presenting new outcomes for secondary and primary education. The National

Harrison Chorgeron, And Harrison Bergeron And By The...
Imagine being stuck in the future, but not the future everyone normally thinks about, full of new
technology and knowledge. This future is different, but not a good different. In Harrison Bergeron by
Kurt Vonnegut Jr., equality is the main issue and no one can get rid of it. In By the Waters Of Babylon
by Stephen Vincent Benet, technology and knowledge ruined the world so awful that the only people
left totally forgot about technology, even the simple pieces of technology like a sink. Even though
Harrison Bergeron and By the Waters of Babylon are two completely different stories, the futures of
them both end up being boring and depressing. They both also give warnings about the future. In
Harrison Bergeron, it is about how being equal and having total equality throughout a country can
totally ruin a it and in By the Waters of Babylon, it is about how the knowledge of ourselves can ruin
not only a city or state, but the whole world. In Harrison Bergeron and By the Waters of Babylon, the
future in both stories are gloomy and depressing. First, in Harrison Bergeron, Vonnegut Jr. talks about
how America would be like if everyone was equal. But not just equal rights, actually equal, like equal
strength, beauty, and intelligence. The leader, the Handicapper General, put handicaps on everyone
above average like weights, masks, and even ear buzzers. George and Hazel were the parents of

missing my high school senior year, friends, and graduation, I returned. Ashamed to go back to my
previous high school, I discovered an alternative campus. That spared me explaining where I was the
past year. Everyone I knew was either in my graduating class or the class ahead of me. They would all
be gone now. My diploma would come from my parent school, but it would read the following year s

Graduation for me only required four measly classes a full caseload at this school. I had never failed

the new environment. He chooses neither. Instead, he exceeds the preposition and completely submits
to the savagery. Jack commits hateful, cruel acts. He kills Simon as well as condemning the death of
Piggy. He dresses up in camouflage and aggressively kills animals. For example, Jack made a rush and
stabbed at Ralph s chest with his spear.... They were chest to chest, breathing fiercely, pushing and
glaring (177). This shows his complete transformation. Ralph hadn t transformed like Jack, and didn t
feel the constant pressure. Jack constantly needed more power and more fear. He needed to devote
himself to the island. He wanted to act upon all evil urges. As stated, They were savages it was true;
We see now from Ralph s side, that Jack twisted the tribes mind like a devil would to the point of
making them little savages (185). Since Jack had yielded, he had to turn everyone else too. Jack
resembles Gimpel in many ways. As Gimpel was confronted with darkness that altered the way he
thought about the world, so was Jack. Both characters allow urges that linger in the back of their mind
to assert control. Unlike Ralph, both characters could not resist temptation. However, Ralph is able to
stick with his morals, even as everything is taken away from him. He is starving, hurt, and truly alone,
yet he still holds onto himself. Ultimately, the evil and hatred Jack possessed trump Ralphs realistic
and fair ideals. This is because of everyone has their own battles within.

Evolution Of Cad And Cam Technology Systems Essay
The high request for ceramic restorations in the posterior and anterior areas has focused on the
evolution of CAD and CAM technology systems. In the early 1980s Pioneered by Mörmann, the first
CAD/CAM system called Cerec System started the era of CAD/CAM in dentistry. (Mörmann, 2006)
The CAD/CAM technology was powered by the improvement of computing power and specific
recovery systems and milling machines. Therefore, to avoid traditionally digital systems offer the
opportunity and analogue impressions giving patient support and effective workflow. The CAD/CAM
systems are used in dental applications usually contain three components: 1. There is a digital scanner
that changes the geometry into digital information that can be prepared by the computer. 2. Software
that processes information and, depending on the application, produces an information set for the
product to be created. 3. A production technology that converts the data set into the favourite product.
(Shenoy and Prabhu, 2015) Computer Aided Design To produce 2D or 3D graphical pictures of the
objects CAD is the best computer applications to use. CAD is more used to design the products in a
varied range of industries, where the software performs controls for defining the best structure and
size for a diversity of product and manufacturing design applications. The scanned documents are

Substantive Law Vs Procedural Law
Procedural law provides the process that a case will go through (whether it goes to trial or not).
Procedural law decides how a case will be tried and if all procedures were followed.
Substantive law defines how the facts in the case will be handled, as well as how the crime is to be
charged. It deals with the substance of the case.
Every charge is made up of elements. Elements are the specific acts needed to complete a crime.
Substantive law requires that the prosecutor or DPP prove every element of a crime in order for
someone to be convicted of that crime. The elements that are required will depend on the crime with
which the person is charged and the state s substantive laws. For example, for a driving while
intoxicated charge, it is

Buddhist Teachings In Canada
Buddhist teachings and tradition strongly emphasize the ideas of virtue, kindness and compassion.
These ideals are at the core of Buddhist tradition and they exemplify right ways of living in relation to
building a better future and after life. Buddhist teachings can also offer us a lot of insight into the
current Refugee Crisis, and provide us with salient understandings and conceptions of how to directly
deal with the influx of refugees from a moral and virtuous center. In regards to the responses that both
Canada and the USA have taken, Buddhist teachings can shed light onto how these approaches are
both good and bad, in their own respects.

The World Power Of Iran
The series of disappointments that have harassed the growth of Iran began with a poor foundation, its
leadership and government, and has then snowballed with each coming failure and conflict, however it
is the people who choose to stand on that foundation and continue on or rebuild it. Iran, throughout the
last decade has had several shifts in how government is deployed, the indecisive tug and pull of
religiously kept sanctions or a move towards further westernization, and the maintenance of the tight
control on its population to maintain diplomatic control. The direction of Iran to become a world
power is seen through the political moves of trying to gain stronger allies, such as the dependency of
the British. Mossadegh himself regarded Britain s constitutional monarchy as the best model for Iran s
government. And yet his hatred for the British as a malignant force in his country s affairs, and his
intuition for what he regarded as the Anglo Iranian Oil Company s essential evil, was profound. (De
Bellaigue, pp. 108)
In all fairness, the British Government was a power at the time with excellent executive leadership.
Despite this, Mossadegh was right to have disgust for the British Government. Much of the Anglo
Persian Oil Company was based in Iran where the oil was extracted. Iran is an oil goldmine. The
company, which was primarily British owned, paid money to the Iranian Government for oil that was
extracted, however the profits from the taxed revenue that the

Coach: Game to Win in Fashion
Introduction
Starting as a luxury retailer of handbags and accessories, having 17,200 employees, headquarter
located in New York, Coach now ranks No. 63 among the world s most valuable brands. It has an
estimated market capital of $11.7 billion as of May 2015, according to Forbes. Coach s products range
from handbags, gloves, hats, wallets, jewelry to perfume and body lotion.
Coach s vision says:
TO BECOME THE COMPANY That DEFINES GLOBAL MODERN LUXURY.
In the recent years since 2010s, its product ranges have been especially diversified, because the
company is planning on transition into a premium lifestyle brand , meaning instead of defining fashion
in handbags, Coach now wants to define fashion in many other things.
Coach s vision and core values mainly derives from the time of its establishment. People then value
quality and authenticity very much, and they can use one handbag for many years. When the bag gets
scratched or the zip is broken somehow, they re also willing to go and fix it, just in order to use it for a
longer time, because they re emotionally connected to the brand, and the handbag. All these values of
that time allows Coach to survive and flourish rapidly, developing a lot of loyal customers.
However, time changes, and Coach s first batch of customers are not the main group of people paying
for its products.
This paper mainly discusses coach s recent challenges

Examples Of Anti-Transcendentalism In Moby Dick
Introduction The Anti Transcendentalism movement was a movement against all conventional beliefs.
A participant in this movement was Herman Melville, most famous for his novel Moby Dick. Moby
Dick highlights the journey of an obsessive quest to find a whale. The obsessive quest leads Ishmael,
the main character, to his death because he tries to work against the forces of nature, which expresses
some of Melville s Anti Transcendentalist beliefs through this particular novel. The Anti
Transcendentalists or the American Gothic writers emphasized two major themes: the destructive
power of nature and the dark side of the human mind, and paved the way for modern horror stories.
The Power of Nature Once a person becomes attached or obsessed to a specific person, place, or even
an idea, it is extremely difficult to expel this obsession. Ishmael becomes attached to Moby Dick. He
does not execute a single action or take a simple breathe without thinking of this whale. Ishmael s
obsession with this whale is to taken to such an extent that he is willing to venture through extreme
obstacles out on the sea just to murder the whale that is responsible for his missing leg. As always, the
power of nature overcomes the ignorance of man. Nature does what nature wants. No one gets to tell
nature what to do, it is one of the only aspects of life we truly are incapable of controlling. When we
hear a hurricane warning, and most sensible people will take precautions, those who do not,

Pennies In The Rich Lab Report
Introduction Different metals have different mass and volumes. The mass and volume of something
effect the density of the metal. If pennies made before and after 1982 have different densities, they are
most likely made out of different metals. The independent variable is the year the pennies were made.
The dependent variables are the density, volume and mass of the pennies. The controlled variables are
the number of pennies, the instruments used for measurement and the environment in which the
pennies are measured. Objective The purpose of this lab was to find out the type of metal a coin in

The Theme Of Death In Disney Movies
The Circle of life The Lion King was definitely not the first Disney movies to contain death, but it was
the first to have a central theme around it. Children still sing The Circle of Life on repeat, however
back they never really think about the meaning behind the song, it was just another catchy Disney
song to a six year old. In this classic song people are taught about the fundamentals of death and how
its just one big circle. Death is a necessary part of life, world religions revolve around it, and it drives
people to accomplish more in life. One of the most common appearances of the topic death is in

One of the first reasons death is so important is because without death earth would have reached its
carrying capacity along time ago. Alan Watts a famous british philosopher once said If one person
dies, it is in a way honorable, because he s making room for others ( ). Watt s said that dying was
honorable which is very true. Through death current generations are leaving room for the next
generation and their contributions to the world. Improving the world is one of the main goals of
humans and many find comfort in knowing, as Jeffrey Kluger wrote in his Time Magazine Article,
that the world you re exiting is at least a bit richer than the one you found when you arrived ( ). One of
the most fulfilling things for a person to know before they die is that they have had some sort of
impact on the world around them, whether it be through the environment, animals, or the people
around them, it helps people feel like their death was more meaningful if they know they left a legacy
behind. Alan Watts once said that death is the source of life. We see this when the leaves fall from the
trees and they mold and wrot creating humus from which more plants can grow ( ). All around things

Proverrbs On Crooked By Education
While there are many proverbs in the world, there is one that sticks out the most, Crooked by nature is
never made straight by education which is a proverb that originated from Italy. This proverb means
that if from birth a person is twisted, in the sense that they are bad, will never be fixed. It fits in today,
or the past, because so many people are born with a corrupted mind set, and the education system tries
to fix it, but will fail. Thus this proverb can be seen in the past, with Luis Garavito and Ted Bundy, and
in literature including Stephen King s 11/22/63, and finally today ISIS gives examples of this proverb.

Muslims, who are believers of Islam, are heavily dedicated to Allah, or their god. The atomistic
metaphysics of the Ash arites created a fatal breach between cause and effect in the natural world. Fire
does not burn cotten; God does. Gravity does not make rocks fall; God does. To say that a rock fall
because of gravity is an act of shirk... (Reilly) Shirk, as stated in the evidence, means to neglect or
avoid a duty or responsibility. Which means that muslims have to believe that Allah causes everything.
Along with believing that everything is caused by Allah, they also think that their death is what Allah
wants as well. Speak with any American soldiers who have served with Iraqi troops, and you will find
that the Iraqis will resist things as simple as wearing seatbelts or kevlar vests...if my time has come as
decreed by Allah, the seat belt or the kevlar vest is not going to save me. If my assigned time has not
come, why do I need to use the seat belt or wear a kevlar vest (Reilly). Because they think that death
will come to them no matter what, and in anyway shape or form. This kind of thinking makes them
blame ISIS murders on Allah, or ISIS s attacks saying that that s what Allah wants. ISIS also believes
that Allah will punish anyone who has sinned, and reward those who haven t. Whether it is an Asian
tsunami or American hurricane, Ash arite muslims will explain it in terms of God s punishing sinners
for their disobedience. Therefore Allah punished the United States with Hurricane Katrina for its
interference in the muslim world. Also, Allah placed the oil under the sand of the Arabian Peninsula as
a reward for following strict sharia law (Reilly). Again, with that kind of thinking, ISIS can say that
Allah told them to attack the US, or other countries. Them thinking Allah rewarding ISIS with oil

One s socioeconomic and educational level is an important factor in the longevity of this aging
population s existence. Greene County is a relatively poor community with only 11.3% of individuals
holding a B.A. or higher degree of education (Stats, 2014). The ability for self pay or likelihood of one
in this age group having private health insurance is decreased. Therefore, the financial burden for this
age group falls back on government agencies in the form of Medicare for qualifying older adult or the
older adult fails to seek medical attention due to the lack of funding. People 65 and older make nearly
twice as many physician office visits per year than adults 45 to 65. However, an estimated two thirds

art with his set of philosophical principals called an aesthetic. Stephen Dedalus, the central character,
acts as an alternate reflection of the author in this semi autobiographical fiction A Portrait of the Artist
as a Young Man by James Joyce. Joyce primarily uses the early development of Stephen and the
impact it has on his life to demonstrate his themes and ideas. He uses this, especially to demonstrate
how Stephen arrives at his principals. Stephen has many interactions with the Catholic Church he
grew up with and the religion. He struggles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stephen thinks that the rhyme is not poetry, even though it has the form of a poem (Joyce, 8). The
difference between Stephen and his friend is that one thing does not become art only because it takes
the form of art. What Stephen wrote might be considered more artful because it had a statement: What
is after the Universe? (13). His mind is grasping at the nature of the world through beauty. Stephen
demonstrates this further, by writing an essay comparing Irish political leader Parnell to Julius Caesar
as a figure who is betrayed. Little Stephen, like Joyce makes the psycho causal connection...[He]
already understands the now in relation to the past (Watchel 14 15). His propensity to connect the
present to the past as is the case with his essay about Parnell demonstrates what Watchel is saying:
Stephen s hunger for the aesthetic is not only displayed in his thoughts on beauty, but also in his
ability to appreciate artistic connections in life. Stephen certainly has always had natural creativity, but
what Joyce does with Stephens expression of beauty, explains how Stephen builds his

Hinduism and the God Shiva Essay
Hinduism is a religious tradition compromising of the beliefs and practices of Hindus. The majority of
Hindus choose a personal deity who they feel a personal connection with. One can show devotion of a
deity in many ways including prayer, ceremonial worship, chanting and even visiting a site sacred to
that deity. For my art project I wanted to choose a deity that I could personally connect with, I chose
the Hindu deity Shiva. Some of Shiva s characteristics are devotion, self confidence as a motivating
force, selfless service, and achieving balance on all levels. These are all characteristics and values that
I find important. I would especially like to work on the ability to balance the mind, body and spirit,

Essence, Activity and Inertia, is the trident of gunas which are Shiva s main attributes: one can
regulate these through ayurvedic cooking. Shiva is also the God of Yogis, a practice of mind, body and
consciousness; where life force is regulated by breath, and breath energy is controlled by the mind.
These are all different ways one can show devotion to Shiva and provide a path to religious
understanding.
Shiva is easy, light and graceful, he is self controlled and celibate. At the same time he is lover of
Shakti, goddess of destroying demonic forces and restoring the balance. He was lover to his two
previous wives, Sati and Kali. Shiva s first wife was his beloved Sati. He was married to her against
her father s wishes. Shiva fell in love with her giving nature, her patience and radiant personality.
Meanwhile, her father organized a gathering and invited everyone except Shiva; Sati went uninvited,
and her father humiliated her by insulting her lord. Sati then proceeded to sit on the floor, and with her
mind fixed on Shiva, she controlled her breath which sparked her inner fire until it consumed her.
Shiva was extremely pained by Sati s death and can be seen dancing on his ex father in law who is
responsible for the death of his beloved Sati.
The Devine Mother Kali goddess of time and death was Shiva s

Coco Chanel s Impact On Women
Imagine walking down the streets of Paris in 1921 and walking by a young beautiful woman dressed
in a simple black dress. While you walk by her you get a whiff of a smell, a smell like no other in
1921. It was the smell of a strong woman and not a flower bed, that was the smell of Chanel No. 5 the
perfume that put Coco Chanel on the map. The big question is, who was Coco Chanel and what was
her big impact on women in society in the early 1920 s. What made it successfully into such a
worldwide known brand? Chanel started in Paris, France in the year 1910 the brand did not take off
until her release of Chanel No.5 in 1921. Coco Chanel the owner revolutionized the way women

Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury. (Picardie) Chanel s designs were made simple
and for comfort, revolutionizing clothing for women. Her brand really took off after her release of
Chanel No. 5 the perfume that transformed the way women were portrayed. Shortly after releasing
Chanel No. 5, she presented her first line of makeup in 1924. Chanel kept launching new projects after

The Male s Role In The Aztec Civilization
The Aztec Civilization started out as a nomadic tribe. This means that they moved places a lot. They
were also polytheistic. This means that they believed in many gods, not just one. They also had a very
complicated belief system. Everything was focused on the gods. They believed that if they make
human sacrifices to the sun god, the sun will always rise and the world will stay. If they didn t, the sun
will never rise and the world will end. This belief included taking their human sacrifice away from
their tribe and then stabbing them, taking their heart out of their chest, rising it into the sun and
skinning them. The male and females had different roles. The male s role was to participate in war,

The Concept Of Discovery In Rainbows s End By Jane...
Can Discovery truly allows us to view life in a new and fresh way? Due to the complex and abstract
nature of the concept of discovery, a true sense of discovery harbour s the ability to incite individuals
in many differentiating ways as it can be provoked through their different past experiences. The
concept of discovery has evidently evoked curiosity and inquisitiveness through the protagonists of
both the indigenous play Rainbows end composed by Jane Harrison, and also through the novel The
fault in our stars authored by John Green.
The process of discovery is dynamic, meaning that it is constantly changing and that it is also severely
shaped by the values and attitudes of the characters. This idea is conveyed through Nan dear as ...

Gladys is a character whose discovery of self, evoked curiosity and power within her to acquire
courage and strength in order to become a voice for her culture. As she discovers a sense of autonomy
and presents a speech on behalf of her people, her sense of self discovery is influenced therefore
affecting her positively, Gladys communicates this through the speech when she states We want jobs
for our sons and daughters like everyone else , she conveys this by the use of a simile. Gladys s
persona presents integrity which indicates to both nan dear and dolly that you can stand strong. Her
action is severely Influenced by constant prejudices and overpowering stigma against indigenous
individuals and that they are all uneducated and illiterate. Gladys bravely challenges this by
composing a speech to prove everyone wrong. It is therefore through the play Rainbows end where a
character such as gladys has demonstrated that discovery truly allows us to view life in a new and
fresh way and can undoubtedly affect people in different ways.
Moreover, discovery is an abstract perspective in which is always evolving as it is influenced by the
environment and social context in which people place themselves within. The concept of discovery is
evidently also illustrated in the novel The fault in our stars where the question Who am I ? Is
frequently asked. Through the Fault In Our Stars the self discovery of the protagonist, Hazel
Lancaster, is conveyed

A Brief Look at Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is an attractive philosophy which claims to replace arbitrary seeming rules by a morality
with a single coherent basis. As the most common form of consequentialism, based on the pursuit of
the greatest happiness of the greatest number, it argues that acts should be judged as right or wrong
according to their consequences. Because happiness is the only thing that is good in itself, and
unhappiness is the only thing that is inherently bad, everything else is only good or bad according to
its tendency to produce happiness or unhappiness. In a business type system, utilitarianism is also
attractive as a means of decision making in which the majority must choose wisely. This type of
decision making may have a positive effect on what action to take, but at the same time it might have
a cost that would not be taken lightly by a business.
From an engineer s and company s stand point, Utilitarianism would best fit, for the simple reason that
it will satisfy everyone, because it is more of a general theory, with a large margin area of company
and consumer satisfaction. Where other theories might be more specific to the situation, with
utilitarianism almost all fits within the category. This may be a good thing for a company, but at the
same time, one of the difficulties with the utilitarian standard is that it seems to sometimes favor the
greater aggregate good at the expense of a vulnerable minority; the minority being the company s
consumer (Rabins).

The s Alright, Because I Love The Way You Lie Essay
That s Alright, Because I Love the Way you Lie
Oh, cried Lizzie, Laura, Laura, / You should not peep at goblin men. / Lizzie cover d up her eyes, /
Cover d close lest they should look; / Laura rear d her glossy head, / And whisper d like the restless
brook: / Look, Lizzie, look, Lizzie, / Down the glen tramp little men. / One hauls a basket, / One bears
a plate, / One lugs a golden dish / Of many pounds weight. / How fair the vine must grow / Whose
grapes are so luscious; / How warm the wind must blow / Through those fruit bushes. / No, said
Lizzie, No, no, no; / Their offers should not charm us, / Their evil gifts would harm us. / She thrust a
dimpled finger / In each ear, shut eyes and ran: / Curious Laura chose to linger/ Wondering at each
merchant man. / One had a cat s face, / One whisk d a tail, / One tramp d at a rat s pace, / One crawl d
like a snail, / One like a wombat prowl d obtuse and furry, / One like a ratel tumbled hurry skurry. /
She heard a voice like voice of doves / Cooing all together: / They sounded kind and full of loves / In
the pleasant weather. Pg. 1652, Lns. 48 80, Christina Rossetti
In April 1859 the poem Goblin Market was produced and later published in 1862. After publication,
many argued between weather or not the poem was meant to be a children s poem, but author
Christina Rossetti later makes a statement that is clear in that her poem was not, in fact, meant for
children as it contains explicit imagery. In her poem,

Theories Of Personality Paper
Theories of personality, among many other theories in the field of psychology, must use some sort of
scientific basis in order for the theory or research to be looked upon by others as credible. Psychology
is the scientific study of the mind and behavior, therefore it should be crucial for theories of
personality to be evaluated according to scientific criteria. Forming a hypothesis, testing it out,
observing, racking up data it should all be used during research. There needs to always be a theory in
conjunction with research (Cloninger, S. 2013). Scientific criteria gives psychologists or reseachers a
firm base to follow, which makes it easier to validate theories. Evaluating a theory based on
personality without using scientific criteria

  • 2. My Statement of Purpose for a Course on Networks and IP... Statement of Purpose Introduction From an early age I learned to look at challenges not as insurmountable problems, but as opportunities for continual growth, personal discovery, and ultimately achievement. This mindset of translating challenges pervades my academic career to this point, and in pursuing a Masters of Science degree I hope to challenge myself to the next level of academic and professional achievement. Networks and IP Security The innate strengths I have include the ability to create, critique and analyze algorithms for optimal performance, in addition to router ripping, protocol analysis and understanding of and interest in data structures and data models. I have excelled in the areas of electric circuitry design and components, and have also discovered an innate ability to troubleshoot problems from a systemic, highly focused standpoint. This ability to view entire networks and the Internet from a very detailed, systemic standpoint has also helped me to excel in related studies of programming, data structures and algorithm development. The study of security has been based on the insights gained from viewing the many functional areas of networks through the perspective of fault tolerance, authentication, advanced connectivity and the development of data structures that enable communication and collaboration (Adams, 1986). My passion is in the area of computer networks and security, which is an area I will continually strive to excel in, relying on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nonverbal Consequences In The Film Victor Victoria Communication without Words Human communication is a process that it is full of tools and stages. One important tool that is widely use on communication is the non verbal cues, which help the speakers and the receptors to express without using words. There are many types of nonverbal messages; for example, the body, the face, the eyes, spaces, artifacts, touch, paralanguage, silence, and time. A great variety of these cues are used during the movie Victor Victoria , in which a women pretends to be a man, and with the help of her friend and many nonverbal messages, she achieve her goal. The first clear example of nonverbal cues is the vestment, which we can appreciate during the scene where Victoria is at Carroll Todd place, and she use Richard s cloths. In the course of the scene, Victoria was with his friend, and they were dreaming about becoming sensational stars at Paris, so they can be rich and happy. At this moment, Richard went back to Toddy s place to pick up his staffs, but as soon as they heard somebody approaching, Victoria hides in the closet already dress like a man. When Richard finds her, he doesn t have a doubt that she is a man, just because of what she is wearing. This is a perfect example of a nonverbal cue, where the cloths send a message to Richard making him think that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. What I Would Never Have Believed That Concepts From Economics Prior to writing this, I would never have believed that concepts from economics would have fit into my decisions in course selections. But, now looking at the individual concepts and what they really entail, it makes perfect sense. As a sophomore picking out classes, I had free choice whether to enter the CP course, the Honors course or the AP course. The only reason why I was able to choose between these three courses was because of my grades. This is similar to the concept of barriers to entry in economics; the students are the new firms, the courses are the industries, and the different grades are the actual barrier into the courses. During sophomore year, I maintained an average grade in the honors history course of higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, some of the benefits included more credit, a more interesting topic, and learning more. On the other hand, the costs included more time dedicated, a harder course, and the AP test. These costs were of a lesser importance than the benefits were, plus, the AP test could be beneficial. By using this concept, I determined that taking the AP course did benefit me more in the long run than taking the honors course. One of the major benefits that I looked at was whether taking this course would help benefit me in the long run. I used the concept of human capital , thinking that with this course and my other collective knowledge that I would gather from other classes, I was preparing myself to be a well rounded student and so possibly more successful in the future. In taking the AP course, I would learn a slightly different topic than the Honors or CP classes, and at a higher level of difficulty. I would definitely learn the topic and broaden my knowledge, but I would also learn more skills, like managing time wisely and different studying skills for a harder course. On the other hand, the costs of taking the AP course was like the concept of opportunity cost , the things I had to give up in order to take the course. For one, I would have to give up taking an easier course, and perhaps a better grade, if I opted to take the AP course. I would also have to give up more of my time to prepare for the course, hence eliminating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lowering The Freezing Point Of Water Isaiah McConaga Janay Winston Mrs. Chan Honors Chemistry Background Research The topic is Chemistry of Making Ice Cream: Lowering the Freezing Point of Water. In this experiment the scientist will be researching how to lower the freezing point of water using salt and/or sugar. The Independent Variable in this experiment is the solutes that the scientist uses which are, chemicals that dissolve in liquids. The Dependent Variable is the temperature/freezing points of the substances(°C). A constant is this experiment would be the use of salt and sugar and the control would be the pure water because it is important for determining the freezing point of the water in the experiment. In order to determine which chemicals will lower the freezing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The salt content lowers the oceans freezing point so that conditions have to be a lot colder to make it freezes. (David Bradley, 2009). To understand all of this, you first need to understand the freezing point of water. Water freezes at 0(°C) or 32(°F). However, adding salt or sugar or a substance as those listed, could change the freezing point of water. The freezing point of ocean water is 28.4 (°F) this is due to the amount of salt found in the ocean, at least 10 percent of the oceans water freezes and becomes ice, but the only part that freezes is the actual water itself while everything underneath is salt water. The polar ice caps are made out of fresh water, up to 15 percent of the oceans water is always frozen. In the ocean there is around 35 grams of salt for every 1000 units of water. When adding sugar to pure water it also lowers the freezing point of water because it becomes a mixture. If sugar is sprinkled on ice it mixes with the warmest layer of water creating a sugar water mix that pushes all the remaining sugar water underneath the ice layer making it freeze. The movement of pure water molecules slow down through the sugar water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gladiator True Hero Response Paper 2: Maximus Meridius, a True Hero in Gladiator The film, Gladiator, released in 2000, displays a great deal of bravery, honor, love, loyalty and sacrifice through Maximus Meridius, a man stripped of his title, land and family, but continues to live and fight with honor and compassion in his heart and mind. Maximus, the hero protagonist, is introduced as an admired Roman Army General and a favorite to the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Commodus tries to portray himself as unafraid of Maximus, but he can see through his exterior to the insecure man he has always been. Maximus responds to Commodus saying, I think you ve been afraid you re whole life. Commodus carries through with his plan and stabs Maximus in his side and conceals the wound. For example, posters appeared at Beijing University on April 15, mourning Hu as a fallen hero (Lin 1992, 3). Hu s death is therefore, seen as a catalyst of the student protests since many students supported his stand against corruption and party elitism. They saw him as the their only non corrupt and democratic official; but more importantly, their call for democracy and freedom (Chiu 1991, 332). On April 16, 1989, many students gathered to attack the government, which led to the following democratic demands on April 17; out of the seven stated a few will be listed: (1) a fair assessment of Hu s demonstrations; (2) complete ... In a similar sense, in 1989, Hu s death gave the demonstrators another reason to comemorate his death and again call for democratic reforms. In addition, a number of participants in the Democracy Wall movement of 1978 and 1976 demonstration in Tiananmen Square were university faculty members in 1989, and many of them, most notably Feng Lizhi, played a role in framing the issues publicly and signaling students to participate in the movement against corrupt governments (Mason and Clements 2002, 173). Andrew Nathans (1990) argued that by 1989, what had started as congeries of small, isolated, clandestine groups, had grown step by step through the Tiananmen Square Incident of 1976, the Democracy Wall movement of 1978 79 etc. into a national force in 1989, that had the participation or sympathy of almost all residents in China against the Chinese government ... • 11. The Primate Family Tree By Ian Redmond Use of Metaphor in The Primate Family Tree Although some may think of metaphor as ornamental and inapplicable for use in subjects other than English literature, metaphors are necessary for communication in all disciplines. The use of metaphor is crucial in the field of education because one cannot understand completely new ideas without making a connection to previously known information (Oshlag and Petrie). Textbooks readily employ metaphor to convey new information to students. Pages 28 29 of The Primate Family Tree by Ian Redmond illustrates the evolution of primates through a diagram of a tree and describes how the theory of evolution has changed since the nineteenth century. The Primate Family Tree willfully utilizes metaphors regarding abstract complex systems and the Great Chain of Being to explain scientific concepts to an audience that is uneducated in complex zoological and evolutionary processes. Two main metaphor systems categorize many metaphorical expressions: the Great Chain of Being system and the Event Structure system (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain system is based on a vertical scale of complexity, or being, and accounts for how one conceptually analyzes metaphors that compare two things or nouns (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain metaphor is prevalent in English literature to describe both comparisons and differences between nouns. One can better interpret a complex thing, such as a human, by making comparisons between the human and another noun that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our text explains that Durkheim s sociological model gets to the center of the relationship between an individual and the community. Egoistic suicide When someone has little or no ties to society, Durkheim calls it, low integration or low belongingness. These people are typically loners who will not benefit from social authority against suicide. The act or an instance of taking one s own life voluntarily and intentionally, especially by a person of years of discretion and sound mind. This first definition given in the text seems to be the most cut and dry and one that most would identify with except it stating that suicide is typically done by an older person. While statistically the elderly take their lives more often I feel that the most important part of this definition is sound mind . Many people who take their own lives are not of sound mind so by this definition they have not committed suicide? Self killing deriving from one s inability or refusal to accept the terms of the human condition. This is a very powerful definition that I feel gives the blame to society when someone commits suicide. If someone does not have strong social ties then it seems that this definition would not apply to them. All behavior that seeks and finds the solution to an existential problem by making an attempt on the life of the subject. Giving them freedom to freely express themselves without societal pressures on them. Due to the hipsters reject to traditional society, many critics have now attached negative connotations to the word. Making anybody who claims to be a hipster looked down upon. • 14. Impact Of Etfs Trading On Underlying Securities Because price changes in ETFs directly reflect market information and alter investors behaviours and asset allocation, the underlying security liquidity and volatility should be scrutinized. The third main strand of academic literature has revealed that the potential impacts of ETFs trading on underlying securities, and the markets as a whole, is of substantial interest to both investment professionals and financial academics. There is an extensive amount of research that emphasises the effects on liquidity, volatility and valuation. In fact, ETFs impact on the quality of underlying securities is not an unexplored area to theoretical or empirical academics. Existing studies have examined the effects of ETFs introduction on their underlying indices or composite securities. Subrahmanyam (1991) and Gorton et al. (1993) established theoretical models to test basket securities , including index linked securities or index futures contracts (Charupat and Miu, 2013). The models predicted liquidity migration to component securities and indicated that the level of diversification of a composite security is positively correlated with its appeal to liquidity traders. The analysis was based on the idea that component stocks were diversified (with no firm risk), and the liquidity traders, thus, expected lower losses to informed traders by trading in composite securities rather than in underlying individual securities. • 15. International Trade Is An Effective Stimulation Of... Engaging in international trade is an effective stimulation of economic growth. David Ricardo s principle of comparative advantage argues while nations involved in international trade, a country will become specialised in producing a product that has the lowest relative costs. (Economist, 2015) By focusing on the production onto a limited scope of product or industries, firms or the nation will experience rise in productivity due to higher efficiency in allocation and utilisation of resources. As the process of specialisation will cause reallocation of other less efficient resources, nations, as a result, will import products that are less efficiently produced from other countries. While different nations specialising in different goods and services, a greater variety and cheaper products will become available for consumption, improving the quality and quantity of consumption by all nations. To determine whether developing nations are experiencing disadvantage in the international trade, it requires a careful examination with Porter s Diamond factor endowments. It analysis a nation s competitiveness under four categories: factor endowments, demand condition, related and supporting industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry. Factor endowments meaning the availability of resources and skills, which can further categorise into basic and advanced factor. • 17. Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by violence, understanding it to be an ordinary occurrence and often the solution to a problem. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay will look further into the influences of social, economic and political changes in Britain s education over the last 30 years. The essay will mainly review and focus on the eras between the 1988 reform Act to present. This essay will explore further into the influences of the national curriculum, how conservatives, labour and the coalition have affected social and economic environments in education and comparisons between the conservatives and labour. It will also discuss, philosophers Dewey and Freire reviewing how both of their methods of pedagogy has influenced teachers methods and approaches to teaching. Successive conservatives in the 1980s increased the pace of improvement and reform and introduced Market Mechanisms into the education system, in aim to force schools to increase their standards of teaching (Ross Gibson, 2007). The real uprising in Britain s education legislation came in 1988 when the education Reform Act was introduced, this Act is widely known to be the most important since the 1944 Butlers Act (Meredith, 1989). This future is different, but not a good different. In Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., equality is the main issue and no one can get rid of it. In By the Waters Of Babylon by Stephen Vincent Benet, technology and knowledge ruined the world so awful that the only people left totally forgot about technology, even the simple pieces of technology like a sink. Even though Harrison Bergeron and By the Waters of Babylon are two completely different stories, the futures of them both end up being boring and depressing. They both also give warnings about the future. In Harrison Bergeron, it is about how being equal and having total equality throughout a country can totally ruin a it and in By the Waters of Babylon, it is about how the knowledge of ourselves can ruin not only a city or state, but the whole world. In Harrison Bergeron and By the Waters of Babylon, the future in both stories are gloomy and depressing. For example, Jack made a rush and stabbed at Ralph s chest with his spear.... They were chest to chest, breathing fiercely, pushing and glaring (177). This shows his complete transformation. However, Ralph is able to stick with his morals, even as everything is taken away from him. He is starving, hurt, and truly alone, yet he still holds onto himself. The World Power Of Iran The series of disappointments that have harassed the growth of Iran began with a poor foundation, its leadership and government, and has then snowballed with each coming failure and conflict, however it is the people who choose to stand on that foundation and continue on or rebuild it. Iran, throughout the last decade has had several shifts in how government is deployed, the indecisive tug and pull of religiously kept sanctions or a move towards further westernization, and the maintenance of the tight control on its population to maintain diplomatic control. The direction of Iran to become a world power is seen through the political moves of trying to gain stronger allies, such as the dependency of the British. Mossadegh himself regarded Britain s constitutional monarchy as the best model for Iran s government. And yet his hatred for the British as a malignant force in his country s affairs, and his intuition for what he regarded as the Anglo Iranian Oil Company s essential evil, was profound. A participant in this movement was Herman Melville, most famous for his novel Moby Dick. Moby Dick highlights the journey of an obsessive quest to find a whale. The obsessive quest leads Ishmael, the main character, to his death because he tries to work against the forces of nature, which expresses some of Melville s Anti Transcendentalist beliefs through this particular novel. The Anti Transcendentalists or the American Gothic writers emphasized two major themes: the destructive power of nature and the dark side of the human mind, and paved the way for modern horror stories. The Power of Nature Once a person becomes attached or obsessed to a specific person, place, or even an idea, it is extremely difficult to expel this obsession. Ishmael becomes attached to Moby Dick. He does not execute a single action or take a simple breathe without thinking of this whale. Ishmael s obsession with this whale is to taken to such an extent that he is willing to venture through extreme obstacles out on the sea just to murder the whale that is responsible for his missing leg. • 42. Stephen Dedalus Themes Stephen Dedalus is a creature obsessed. He hunts and prowls to find one true meaning to the world through artistic beauty, to find truth through an aesthetic. He finds a way to balance intellectuality and art with his set of philosophical principals called an aesthetic. Stephen Dedalus, the central character, acts as an alternate reflection of the author in this semi autobiographical fiction A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. Joyce primarily uses the early development of Stephen and the impact it has on his life to demonstrate his themes and ideas. He uses this, especially to demonstrate how Stephen arrives at his principals. Stephen has many interactions with the Catholic Church he grew up with and the religion. He struggles ... The difference between Stephen and his friend is that one thing does not become art only because it takes the form of art. What Stephen wrote might be considered more artful because it had a statement: What is after the Universe? (13). His mind is grasping at the nature of the world through beauty. Stephen demonstrates this further, by writing an essay comparing Irish political leader Parnell to Julius Caesar as a figure who is betrayed. Little Stephen, like Joyce makes the psycho causal connection...[He] already understands the now in relation to the past (Watchel 14 15). His propensity to connect the present to the past as is the case with his essay about Parnell demonstrates what Watchel is saying: Stephen s hunger for the aesthetic is not only displayed in his thoughts on beauty, but also in his ability to appreciate artistic connections in life. Stephen certainly has always had natural creativity, but what Joyce does with Stephens expression of beauty, explains how Stephen builds his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. A Brief Look at Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is an attractive philosophy which claims to replace arbitrary seeming rules by a morality with a single coherent basis. As the most common form of consequentialism, based on the pursuit of the greatest happiness of the greatest number, it argues that acts should be judged as right or wrong according to their consequences. Because happiness is the only thing that is good in itself, and unhappiness is the only thing that is inherently bad, everything else is only good or bad according to its tendency to produce happiness or unhappiness. In a business type system, utilitarianism is also attractive as a means of decision making in which the majority must choose wisely. This type of decision making may have a positive effect on what action to take, but at the same time it might have a cost that would not be taken lightly by a business. From an engineer s and company s stand point, Utilitarianism would best fit, for the simple reason that it will satisfy everyone, because it is more of a general theory, with a large margin area of company and consumer satisfaction. Where other theories might be more specific to the situation, with utilitarianism almost all fits within the category. This may be a good thing for a company, but at the same time, one of the difficulties with the utilitarian standard is that it seems to sometimes favor the greater aggregate good at the expense of a vulnerable minority; the minority being the company s consumer (Rabins). Theories Of Personality Paper Theories of personality, among many other theories in the field of psychology, must use some sort of scientific basis in order for the theory or research to be looked upon by others as credible. Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior, therefore it should be crucial for theories of personality to be evaluated according to scientific criteria. Forming a hypothesis, testing it out, observing, racking up data it should all be used during research. There needs to always be a theory in conjunction with research (Cloninger, S. 2013). Scientific criteria gives psychologists or reseachers a firm base to follow, which makes it easier to validate theories. Evaluating a theory based on personality without using scientific criteria ...
