Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms with over-the-counter medications and getting plenty of rest.
The common cold is caused by viruses like rhinoviruses and coronaviruses. It is a viral infectious disease of the upper respiratory system with symptoms like cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sometimes fever. It spreads through direct contact with infected secretions from sneezes or coughs or contact with contaminated surfaces. Most people are infectious during the first few days of symptoms. Homeopathy can effectively treat the common cold based on an individual's diagnosis and underlying causes.
This document discusses several airborne diseases including the common cold, influenza, tuberculosis, measles, chickenpox, and their causes, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, and treatments. It explains that airborne diseases can spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks, releasing pathogens into the air. Many viruses and bacteria are transmissible through airborne droplets or particles that can remain suspended and travel through the air or land on surfaces. Proper vaccination is important for preventing the spread of some airborne illnesses.
The common cold is a viral infectious disease that spreads easily. Symptoms include sore throat and nasal congestion. There is no cure, and one must wait for it to run its course. The average person gets 2-3 colds per year. While not life-threatening, the cold can be a nuisance by making it difficult to focus on tasks and causing people to avoid those infected. A cure for the common cold would help make dealing with life's troubles more bearable.
The common cold is a self-limited viral infection of the upper respiratory tract that causes symptoms like cough, sore throat, runny nose, and sneezing. It is transmitted through direct contact or inhaling airborne viruses. While usually mild, the common cold can lead to serious complications like pneumonia, acute bronchitis, or even surgery in rare cases. Frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, vaccines, rest, fluids, and vitamin C can help prevent the spread of the common cold.
The document discusses communicable diseases, which are illnesses that can be transmitted from one person to another. It provides examples of common communicable diseases like the cold, influenza, malaria, dengue, strep throat, measles, gastrointestinal infections, whooping cough, and coronavirus disease (COVID-19). For each disease, it describes the causative agent and typical symptoms. It concludes by listing healthy habits that can help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease usually caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria that typically affects the lungs. It spreads through the air when people with an active infection cough or sneeze. Most infections are asymptomatic and latent, but about 10% of latent infections can develop into the active form of the disease which can be lethal without treatment. Treatment uses antibiotics to kill the bacteria, with isoniazid and rifampicin being most commonly used both alone and in combination for latent and active infections respectively.

Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. It causes flu-like symptoms including fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and skin rash. In some cases it can develop into life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever resulting in bleeding and blood plasma leakage. It is transmitted by several species of mosquito and prevention focuses on reducing mosquito habitats and exposure to bites. There is no vaccine currently available. Research is ongoing into vector control methods, vaccine development, and antiviral drugs to treat dengue.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease causing high fever and severe joint pains. It occurs in tropical and subtropical regions and is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito. While most cases are mild, in some instances symptoms worsen and can become life-threatening with internal bleeding and shock. There is no vaccine to prevent dengue fever, so avoidance of mosquito bites is the primary method of prevention.
The document discusses chickenpox and Down's syndrome. Chickenpox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus and spreads through saliva or mucus. It causes a red, itchy rash and symptoms include fever, headache and sore throat. Treatment involves antiviral medication or creams to reduce itchiness. Prevention includes vaccination which is highly effective. Down's syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by a third copy of chromosome 21, leading to distinctive physical features. It cannot be prevented but conditions can be treated through surgery or medication.
Dengue virus: A global human threat:
you'll get full details of dengue fever, like an introduction, etiopathogenesis, classification, orofacial features etc.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. It causes high fever and flu-like symptoms. The severe form, dengue hemorrhagic fever, can cause serious bleeding, sudden drop in blood pressure, and even death. Millions of cases occur each year, especially in Southeast Asia, the western Pacific, Latin America, and Africa. There is no specific treatment, but supportive care with fluids and rest is usually sufficient. Prevention focuses on avoiding mosquito bites since mosquitoes transmit the dengue virus.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that affects around 2.5 billion people globally each year. It is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and causes flu-like symptoms including fever, body aches, and rash. While most cases resolve on their own, a small proportion can develop into life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. There is no vaccine available, so prevention focuses on controlling mosquito populations and avoiding bites.
This document discusses dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), including what they are, their symptoms, treatment, and prevention. Dengue is caused by a virus and spread through mosquito bites. DHF is a more severe form of dengue that can be fatal without treatment. While there is no vaccine or cure, reducing standing water where mosquitoes breed and using repellent and bed nets can help prevent the spread of the virus. Coordinated community efforts are needed to control mosquitoes and increase awareness about dengue prevention and care.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with any one of the four dengue viruses. It occurs in tropical and sub-tropical areas of the world. It is mandatory to have great insight and awareness of dengue causes, dengue tips, and dengue prevention. Dengue in Pakistan has become an epidemic especially in Lahore Punjab. Dengue in Lahore has caused hundreds of deaths and has become uncontrollable. Therefore, dengue information should be spread like a wild fire through all mediums of information like TV, radio, internet, etc.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease that causes flu-like symptoms including fever, headaches, rashes, and joint pain. It is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes. There is no vaccine to prevent dengue, but basic protective measures like wearing repellent and covering exposed skin can help avoid infection. Severe dengue is a potentially lethal complication but most cases resolve on their own with rest and hydration. Around 500,000 people require hospitalization for dengue each year in tropical areas worldwide.
This document provides information about dengue fever, including its causes, symptoms, treatment and prevention. It discusses how dengue fever is caused by infection with one of four dengue virus types transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms include high fever, severe joint pains and characteristic rash. While most cases are mild, some develop into life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and fluid replacement to prevent shock. Prevention emphasizes reducing mosquito habitats and limiting exposure to bites.
1. Dengue is caused by a virus transmitted by mosquitoes and causes fever, joint pain, and rash. It was previously called "breakbone fever" due to severe joint pain.
2. There are four dengue virus serotypes that can all cause severe disease. Infection provides short-term immunity to other serotypes.
3. Dengue fever progresses through febrile, critical, and recovery stages with symptoms like high fever, headache, rash and bleeding. Severe cases can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever or shock syndrome.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness that is common in the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world, with the common dengue causing fever and flu-like symptoms. However, a more severe form of dengue can result in hemorrhage, internal bleeding, and possible fatality.
All across the globe, there are millions of cases of dengue each year, with tropical regions of the Indian sub-continent, South East Asia, Africa, and parts of Latin America showing the highest incidence of the disease. WHO statistics indicate that the incidence of Dengue has gone up 10 times in the last 20 years, from less than half a million cases reported worldwide to over 5 million cases in 2019. And the same WHO report indicates that close to 3.9 billion people today remain in the risk of developing dengue – which is almost half the population of the world.
Thus, it is imperative to understand the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment modalities for dengue – which can help each one of us be better prepared to prevent the disease, or in the unfortunate event of acquiring the disease, be better equipped to treat it at an early stage.
