(note) 1884 – Home rule was the big issue. Ireland had no parliament.
(note) 1922 – Irish women were allowed to vote after suffragettes
fought for years for the right. (hunger strikes and throwing hatchets)
(note) 1969 - Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa when
all races were allowed to vote for the first time there.
(note) 2005 - Maasouma al-Mubarak became the first female cabinet
member in Kuwait’s history when women were allowed to vote.
